There's an argument to be made that the Ohio has "good enough" dispersion on the secondaries to begin with, plus with her fast turret traverse (and accuracy, not reload, in slot #6) you can take secondaries in slot #3 "for free". You won't get as many hits, but you'll still set a few fires on large targets and with Gun Feeder + fast traverse you'll easily follow them up with permafires. In exchange, you'll keep all the 4-point tank skills, which have more general use: ERE because fast heals, CE because it's hard to snipe with slow shells, FP because...FP. And on the other hand, the most likely 3-pointer is BoS, which you can mimic with the appropriate flags. Indeed, the google doc suggests secondary range only, though it does also put CQC ahead of CE

But these guys were afk from the start: how could they form a division?

After much hesitation, I spent half the F2P tokens on Air Supply containers, and I'm quite pleased with the result -

I'm sure I'll pay for this when the Tier 9 MM catches up with me, but so far I'm having a ball in the Renown '44. Curiously, this ship doesn't register on wowsnumbers Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quB6tYz8FlU -
Add a "credits -> free cpt. xp" converter, where one can input any amount of credits owned. I'm sitting on a pile of credits that's more than enough for finishing my ongoing Research Bureau regrinds and bidding on coal should there be another lighthouse option. If I could exchange 50M for 450-500k free cpt xp without recruiting and dismissing a 6-point captain 50 times, it would be great.

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance

Not that I would complain about the result (divisioning helped for sure, btw), but this abomination had: 1 CV, 2 cruisers, 6 DDs, 1 sub. WTF??? -
Brisbane - Cheapest way to acquire it
tocqueville8 replied to mavericksama's topic in General Discussion
Personally, I tanked a lot with the C. Colombo: my build gives huge heals with good reload, and if you add the smokes you can usually last till the late game. Not great for winning, I'll admit, but it got the mission done in about 13 games, 1.9M potential per game -
If you're playing Coop (anchor in a blue circle), it's going to be humans (+ bots, if there aren't enough humans) vs bots only If you're playing Randoms (anchor in a red circle), it's going to be humans+bots vs humans+bots. As a new player, for your first 200 games and unless you start playing Tier 5, you'll be in a special "beginners' matchmaker", where the only humans in your matches, on either team, are likewise beginners. Because there are few beginners, more slots have to be filled with bots. Corollary: playing Tier 5 in Randoms can be a bit of a cultural shock, as you go from stomping all over bots, with the occasional newcomer to provide a bit of a challenge, to having to deal with a lot more, and much more experienced, real people. Welcome aboard

Alright alright, it was an easy game. But holy £*$! the Renown '44 can push! -
Matilda - best (fastest, cheapest) way to get her?

Have you heard anything of a new coal auction? It's been months since the last one and I have plenty of credits... -

Again, that's a problem if you really want to use the coupon, which allows you to save some F2P resources on the sequential bundles for the remaining tokens. But what you save simply isn't worth it imho: 4 full mission chains in a week + 5 sequential bundles (credits, FXP, coal and steel) -> you're still 5 tokens short (440 + 150 < 595) 5 full mission chains in a month + 5 sequential bundles (ditto) -> 700 tokens, just right for the Brisbane -

The second mission chain becomes available a while (more than a few minutes, less than a day) after finishing the first one. I'm assuming the same is true of all of them, and that they have similar deadlines (30 days). Keep in mind that the final 50 tokens are from completing the 5th mission chain: you can stop at 440, 455, 470 and 485, but not at 500, as you'll go straight to 550. For a lot of people, myself included, Community Tokens are the bottleneck: I simply don't have 6,000 of them, so I can buy 30x5=150 tokens at most. That means that to buy the Brisbane with the coupon I'd have to sink my teeth in the 5th mission chain (and reach 455 from the missions) within a week, which is a bit excessive. -

Some missions are very grindy: spot 90 torps, tank 24M potential... I'd rather take a month to do the whole 5 chains than grind like crazy for a week to use the coupon...and get 2 extra containers. -
"Never again to be seen" is a high bar, but these early access skins are usually not available for direct purchase. Technically, you might get some from the Distant Voyages containers (which are in the Armory right now, incidentally, as a possible way of spending the Brisbane & Matilda Kelly event tokens), but you have no guarantee to drop one you fancy. For instance, you can't just buy the Gold Eagle skin for the Vermont, which was in the early access bundles when the line came out, but you might find it in one of the containers. The thing is, the event only allows you to buy about a dozen containers if you grind all the missions...and each container has a 50% chance of dropping a camo...and there are 300 camos...and the Tier 10 ones are in the rare subgroup TL; DR: probably practically no, it won't be available for purchase later on.

"Mofo" is rude. FOMO is just Fear Of Missing Out, hence the marketing strategy

I'm not being condescending, just polite to someone who was impolite enough to reply: "time does not equal money to you? You must have a lot of free time." And again, you're just dismissing a valid point: regardless of how good or bad the Z-44 is, the fact remains that you can get her for free eventually, while most other German premiums are for money only, so it makes sense (to me, at least) to spend that money on one of them instead. And yes, right now, "not in three months' time". For instance, if you'd used your 60+ Euros on the 40 and the 20 Euro bundles of credits+dubs (not a good deal, but bear with me...), you would have 15M credits right away, with no need to play a single game, plus basically enough dubs to buy the Prinz Eugen (Tier 8), which A) earns almost as well, B) cannot be had for free in any reliable way, as is the case for most German premiums. Again, I don't "grind" for coal ships. Steel ships, RB ships, FXP ships, tech tree ships: sure. The more I play, the more I get those resources. Coal is different: I could get basically all there is to get just by playing two matches each day, which I'd do anyway because I like this game. So yes, coal is free. At some point I have enough for a ship, so I read some reviews and I'm off to the Armory. No biggie.
-
Unnecessary snark aside: I did mention that it only makes sense "if you're in some kind of hurry", which apparently you are. if you really need credits fast, you can buy them directly. It's a really bad deal and I wouldn't recommend it, but see point #1 again Tier 8 premiums also earn good credits, but they're much cheaper grinding credits also takes time getting coal requires playing a bit every day but, unlike free XP or indeed credits, you don't get more of it if you play a lot more: once you get enough ship xp for your three daily containers, which only takes 2-3 games using good boosters, that's all the coal for the day finally, and this is the point you completely missed: I wouldn't not have gotten a freemium for real money. Not just any premium. As I mentioned, there are plenty of nice premium ships (good credit earners, too) that are only available for real money, and personally I have no problem spending money on them: from the IJN alone I bought Atago, Kaga, Tone, Ise, Mikasa and Asashio B...but none of them was available for free! Z-44, on the other hand, was, as is the case for most Tier 9 freemiums.

why are ranked teams so bad?
tocqueville8 replied to Ijime_Dame_Zettai's topic in General Discussion
The OP is like someone who bought a dog, tried to ride it like it were a horse, broke its spine, took the body to the pet shop complaining they sold him a malfunctioning horse, was told it was a dog, complains people don't know what a horse looks like, and now gleefully announces he's going to buy more horses dogs and kill them in the same fashion. People are weird- 103 replies

why are ranked teams so bad?
tocqueville8 replied to Ijime_Dame_Zettai's topic in General Discussion
Because you are in them. You've spammed 20+ games a day in Ranked over the last week, and you're not even averaging your own hp despite playing DDs and cruisers. Some of them are trying, for sure. In fact, they're all trying harder than you. Going by your numbers in Ranked and Tier 6+ Randoms, you have no idea what "carrying" looks like. Sorry Caps rarely matter, kills are more important. Especially in Ranked. You're trying too hard to get a cap too soon and end up giving the enemy a free kill. Which puts your team on the defensive. Which costs them the caps. For any BB that "tries to snipe at max range", there are ten impatient fools who yolo into the cap, and you're likely one of them. -
Plenty of mid-tier premiums look nice, are quite strong in the game and have a lot of history to them, so they're arguably worth the money, at least if you get them at a discount. But spending 60+ Euros on something that's available for a free-to-play resource is simply a bad idea, unless you're in some kind of hurry. Honestly, anyone here would've told you so, especially for the Z-44.

I've tried it a bit. The thing is slow as &%!*$, 20 knots on the surface before flags/skills, so the standard operating procedure of ignoring the cap and sailing into/behind the enemy formation to shotgun people takes forever, and I'm always tempted to give up and help the team around the caps (vs DDs and subs) first. It doesn't work. Those DDs and subs are pretty effective at screening, if unwittingly so. Going lone wolf is, I suspect, the only way to have good results, but if the team has a bad start it's hard to stay committed to that playstyle. I probably suck at subs in general (you'll excuse me: I've barely played them at all), but I can see how one would play, say, the U-2501, which is both fast and has a huge battery. This Undine has good battery time, but it's the Colorado of subs

Alaska is always nice when the MM cooperates I started regrinding a couple German lines, and had this nice T-22 win while bottom tier. Renown '44 seems like a ton of fun, like a Tier 7 Iwami. Unfortunately, with so many ships in port, these new premiums go underappreciated for me EDIT: video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjSFPEqpRaM Finally, yesterday I played so well I spawned an extra life, apparently
