Petition to replace Swift in Silence
tocqueville8 replied to tocqueville8's topic in General Discussion
Are you speccing the torpedo bulge skill? I tried it a bit during the free respec in February, but let's be honest, that's just not worth 3 points, not even on Yamato/Alabama, so that's the one I would change if and when subs come along. -
Petition to replace Swift in Silence

Oh I get, but I still disagree: 1) Thunderer rudder should be nerfed, but that's not the topic here 2) cruisers (and destroyers) can take double rudder: -20% and -40%, which multiply to -52%. My proposal for BBs would be -20% and -10%, which only multiply to -28%, if you take both. So *of course* (most) cruisers can have much better agility than (most) BBs, if they so choose. At some point, they don't because their agility is good enough. I find it very hard to understand the reasoning why - for DD gun DPM, there's an upgrade and some skills - for DD torpedo DPM, there's an upgrade and a skill - for BB fire protection, there's an upgrade, several skills and flags - for concealment, there's an upgrade and a skill - for secondary (range, accuracy, rate of fire) there are upgrades and captain skills - for AA there are upgrades and captain skills - for turret traverse there's an upgrade and a skill... ...but a skill that give 10% better rudder? "Oh no, that would make the BBs more like cruisers". -
Of course that 6k xp game was a win during premium time. Orion game: https://replayswows.com/replay/75876#stats QE vs planes: https://replayswows.com/replay/76571#stats (I dare say this was my best game of the lot) Yamato game: https://replayswows.com/replay/102754#stats JB game: https://replayswows.com/replay/96222#stats Asashio game: https://replayswows.com/replay/119271#stats Hood game: https://replayswows.com/replay/116416#stats

Petition to replace Swift in Silence

-20% rudder at the expense of fire and flooding survivability isn't a great trade, which is why many BBs are specced with Dmg Con Mod 2. Are you really saying that another 10% would break the game, if people picked that instead of another heal or better concealment? The République has 18.3 s rudder stock, 14.6 with only the module, 16.5 with only this skill, 13.2 with both. Are you saying that going from 14.6 to 13.2 makes the République broken? It's still worse than a Thunderer with neither: I think they should nerf the Thunderer's rudder, but even with a nerf she'd still be more agile than a République fully specced for agility, so what's the problem? It's a tradeoff like everything else in this game: you can take MBM3 and Fearless Brawler on the Halland, but lots of players will go torpedo reload on both the module and the skill, so what's the big deal? Same for secondary range: there's a skill, an upgrade and a flag, but the first two come with tradeoffs. What else would you propose in place of Dead Eye / Swift in Silence? Nothing? Some crappy skill that no one would ever take? There's got to be a middle road between something that was basically mandatory at high tiers (unless you played a brawler) and something no one would ever take... -
What baffles me is how on the one hand they can make balancing changes as specific as "Nagato reload buffed from 30s to 29s", which makes you feel you live in the best-tuned parallel Universe, and on the other hand they can send out triple unicum divs to try this s**t because "it needs testing".

Maybe, but then again those could take the spot of Vigilance or the extra torpedo protection skill, which I suspect very few people take, for 3 points -

But that's just stupid. I think BBs should have worse concealment than cruisers, but that's irrelevant here. -10% rudder time would hardly make a sluggish BB into a nimble BB: a Montana with this skill would still have a 50% longer rudder time than a Thunderer without it, for instance. There's a module for -20% rudder time, yet you're not complaining about that, nor about Concealment Expert: you're taking issue with a proposal that's perfectly in the middle of what existing (and not very controversial, it seems) upgrades already give, and have been giving for years. -

Why not? If you're playing a "roaming" BB (Conqueror, Lyon, Fuso...) you probably care more about the rudder than the acceleration. If you're playing a "nose-in" BB (Kremlin, Jean Bart, North Carolina) you might prefer acceleration. Since the skill would buff both aspects, but only 50% of the corresponding module, it's less attractive than either on a given ship, which is why I'd throw in the 5% speed as well. It's only 1-1.5 knots, hardly game breaking. Or you could remove the speed buff altogether, whatever really. -

With 10% better rudder? 1.5 more knots in speed? Come on... How small would a bonus have to be in order for people not to freak out about "BBs turning into cruisers"? There are already plenty of BBs with about the same concealment as cruisers, while making my République's rudder go from 18.3 to 16.5 seconds would hardly turn her into a cruiser... -

What does that mean? - Concealment Expert gives you about the same as the Concealment module - Dmg Con Mod 2 gives you about the same as Basics of Survivability - Fearless Brawler gives you about the same as MBM3 Basically, 3-4 point skills are worth about as much as the 1-3M credits upgrades. This skill would give the same as 50% the Engine mod and 50% Rudder mod, with a speed flag thrown in because some BBs use their rudder more and some use their acceleration more, depending on the turret arrangement. Maybe it's uninspired, but how is it unbalanced? I don't get this argument. This skill would make BBs stronger if she was a lot cheaper, but for 4 points it would compete with Concealment Expert, Emergency Repair Expert, etc. You still only have 21 captain points at most, so unless it were an awesome skill (it's not: it's basically as good as the Rudder Module), in order to take it you would have to give up some healing, concealment, secondaries or AA. -

I don't get it. How would this skill "have costs to other skills"? It's a maneuverability skill like Swift in Silence, but considerably better. It would have no tradeoffs, no penalty. Also, we already have a secondary accuracy skill. It's worse than it used to be, which sucks, but that means it should be buffed, not duplicated. -
Wtf. Did these guys really need a buff? And here I was excited for this line and hopeful of this mechanic
tocqueville8 replied to totally_potato's topic in General Discussion
I think the idea is that they're airstrikes called from airbases on the mainland, unlike the normal spotters/fighters/Tone torpedo bombers. I'm okay with the concept as long as: - the bombs deal less damage - there's more early warning, so you can start maneuvering - you can't stack consumable charges (that's the most insane bit, imho) - the planes don't de-spawn when they've dropped the bombs, which right now apparently means you can only damage them on the way in - on the next strike, let's say 3 minutes later, the earlier losses are only partially replenished, so the AA on the 1st strike weakens the 2nd and 3rd strike as well -
Well Done, Wargaming! .... Hhhhhhh XD
tocqueville8 replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in General Discussion
As opposed to... what? Doing the same, but behind the island instead of next to it, so that you can shoot the BB at max range, but not the DD that pops up nearby? That'll win the game... Or staying in the open, exposed to even more fire? That Alaska was a bit overextended, but she deserved some regular damage before reversing into cover, not to be firebombed by orbit. -

tocqueville8 replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in General Discussion
There are 2 videos circulating, one of an Alaska and one of an Iowa. They were both chunked for 90% of their hp by a single pass. -
Well Done, Wargaming! .... Hhhhhhh XD
tocqueville8 replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in General Discussion
If not the Alaska, it would've been someone else. Somewhere on the map, there's always someone who hugs an island at the beginning of the match, and rightfully so: you offer a small target and you isolate yourself from crossfires. -
I got camos, which I'll use if and when I receive more premium days: they're good for grinding xp and free xp, meaning I can skip stock modules or ships I really dislike.
-
I think I've found a small bug on https://replayswows.com/: if I search for French BBs the interface won't show Turenne, Courbet, Alsace and République, even though the corresponding replays will indeed appear. Seems odd...
-
I can see the case for less powerful airstrike, with a reasonable cooldown between charges and an earlier warning (it's a crapton of twin-engine bombers ffs) to allow for evasive maneuvers. I haven't checked the HE pen of the bombs, but maybe that should be toned down as well. As with the new German DDs, I'm not against the gimmick per se, but it has to be balanced like everything else: what we're seeing in the videos is just disgusting.

Saw this on Atlantic last night. A triple unicum div, all playing this new Dutch T10, went straight for the island near the middle and started blasting away with triple charges of this thing. I was in a Salem, so they went for someone else and I shot down a fair amount of planes (21 over a single 3-charges pass against someone nearby). Their strategy didn't really work and we won the game pretty comfortably (thanks to a Petro, not to myself...) Not having experienced the triple airstrike first-hand, I can't say how it feels. However, I will say to me that's a toxic abuse of the matchmaker, basically pure trolling by players who certainly don't need to rely on this gimmick. If there can only be 1 CV in a div, why 3 of these things? Several players in the match didn't even know what the gimmick was, btw. AND the fact that 1 cruiser can "stack" 3 charges of this thing is also insane. Why can't I stack 3 charges of TRB on the Asashio, or use 2 hydros or 4 heals in a row when I need it? -
Why did they ruin the Thunderer?
tocqueville8 replied to DocSnyder2016's topic in General Discussion
As someone who enjoys his Shikishima, I should say I often prefer going up against a Thunderer or Conqueror (or a French BB) than against a GK or a Kremlin, as the overmatch makes it easy to land 12-18k volleys. -
I switched some BBs from Dead Eye to the extra heal skill, which is particularly useful in the Ohio since her heals reload faster. Because you can heal more, Basics of Survivability is less needed (though still nice to have, of course), so you might want to go for the 3 point AA skill instead. I'm assuming you played her with a survivability build...
-
So nice to know that this game would've gotten me *zero* flags with this new system (except maybe a daily container).
-
Exactly. Goodbye sweet feeling of getting 50 flags with a great match.
-
I think that was the entire point of this change. I got a couple of Dreadnoughts, a Fireproof and possibly a High Caliber today, but I mostly received crappy fire/flooding chance flags.
-
I don't know about that... If I can smack a DD for about 20% of her hp, I'll go for the DD, but if at that range I can realistically only get 1 overpen, or my turrets are pointed elsewhere, I'll go for a citadel on that cruiser a bit further away. Even a good salvo on a BB might make her decide to bail, giving my team more room to push on that flank. Of course, if all targets are low hp I'll prioritize the DD, since BBs and CAs are less likely to go undetected and escape, but in general it depends on a lot of factors.
