Yes but only if you build for guns (reload mod and Fearless Brawler, as well as Survivability Expert). But at that point, Smaland is simply better. If you go torpedo build and take Superintendent to play her more like a support DD (extra Def AA), the Halland struggles in 1v1s, in my experience. I'm not complaining, to be clear: it's just that without a smoke or really good speed she's not a natural DD hunter, imho. Cheers.

PSA. Its official. The torpedo bug hasn't been fixed.

Isn't that related to the circle/dot/cross on the minimap? I find that, if I check that, the shells go where I aim them, allowing for dispersion of course. -
The latest "balancing factor" for IJN ships featuring Flamu

When broadside, Iowa and Kremlin are some of the easiest BBs to citadel in the game, and yes, many of the other ones are Soviet (Izmail and Soyuz, at the very least). -
Is the spotter plane so BROKEN?!
tocqueville8 replied to MikhailTheMighty's topic in General Discussion
I'm confused. Doesn't the vertical dispersion (without spotter, at least) work with a linear formula like the horizontal dispersion, i.e. Vertical Dispersion = A [m] + B [m/km] * Range [km] ? For instance, https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Gunnery_and_Aiming suggests the horizontal dispersion has A = 84 m and B = 7.2 m/km for a stock Yamato. -

I dunno, if they wanted more money out of me all they'd need to do is to actually sell T10 permacamos at a 50% discount. Or even just add a 6 month / 25% coupon for them. It'd be less work to set it up than any Armory event, less chance to anger the playerbase or have to pay support to deal with refunds, and it would probably bring just as much money. And yes, I know marketing and technical aren't the same department, but sloppiness often starts at the top. -

Yes, that's why it struck me more as incompetence than an extremely counter-intuitive scam. Again, if you want to scam people, you trick them with a deceptive main advert and then cover you legal backside with a couple of lines at the end, not the other way around. The expression is "read the fine print", rather than "look at the flashy picture", for a reason. To think that this is an even cleverer, "3D Chess" way of scamming people, coming from the same company that 6 years after the game is launched forgets how to make torpedoes drop straight, is to attribute WG a level of sophistication they simply don't have, imho. -

Exactly. Just ignore boxes, only get stuff that's certain, if any at all. -

I think I joined after the famous CV rework (and yes, I play the game a lot). Still, 2.5 years or more sound like a lot to be suddenly changing policy. Moreover, it's just not how scams work, imho. It's supposed to be ***BIG JUICY OFFER SALE DISCOUNT*** ***PICTURES*** ***LIST OF ITEMS*** etc. ... *small disclaimer at the bottom explaining it's a much worse deal than that*, while in this case the main part of the advert, including pictures and lists, made you believe (correctly) that it was either permacamos or flags/one-use camos, drop rates unspecified, and then, at the bottom...the disclaimer announced it was a much better deal? It's just contrary to how deceptive offers work, it's like Krusty saying the loud part quiet and the quiet part loud. However good or bad he deal actually is, it's a basic rule of advertising that you're going to use the biggest space with the most attractive presentation (top of the page and pictures) to present the offer in the most favorable terms, not the other way around. Cheers. Edit: permacamos below T6? On tech tree ships? -
Full price Marceau or Lutjens?
tocqueville8 replied to Godlyuniverse_1's topic in General Discussion
How much steel do you have? Ideally, you'd want to get Marceau at full price in a couple if weeks (it might get withdrawn in the future), then Lutjens at full price and another steel ship with the coupon in a few months. Heck, I paid full price for the Neustrashimy (296k coal), as I spent my coupon on a steel ship (Plymouth). However, if you have lots of German premiums and no good French captain, since the Marceau is staying for now, you might get Lutjens first. I'd just save the coupon for a steel purchase, as they're almost always more costly if we assume the 1:10 exchange rate, not to mention coal is easier to get. -
And ....we have have note from Flambass ....
tocqueville8 replied to Andrewbassg's topic in General Discussion
Agree on PQ: he knows his stuff and he has an appealing, laid-back attitude. He kind of trolled us with the "how to play DD in CV games - plays Halland" video, but recently I found myself gravitating towards his content much more than to Flamu's or Flambass's. Edit: even Jingles, who got me into the game, has been a bit disappointing lately: mistaking one ship on the horizon for another is goofy and endearing, but for instance in a recent Vampire 2 replay he had the ship all wrong, like he simply couldn't be bothered anymore. -
The armor is good against HE spam, and the improved heal and high speed are also useful to escape spammers. BUT The Iowa is also the only BB where I recall getting Dev Struck by other BBs. Twice. And not in point-blank range drive-bys, either. Her citadel is just very exposed. She's still a good BB and she's the tech tree ship where I keep Halsey.

I would say, though: many Des Moines are going to be fairly stationary next to an island, while the Zao is usually played more dynamically. If we include the different ballistics and some competent dodging by the Zao, there comes a range where she might actually out-trade a typical DM.

Friesland IRL in port in Sweden

Not the same Friesland (1 gun instead of 4, for a start...), but still cool -
random tier 3, all bots on both sides but one human
tocqueville8 replied to Mogama's topic in General Discussion
Is it all that, or are you just getting the protected matchmaking for having <200 games on the EU server? There are often bots at low tiers, but not that many at this time of day with normal matchmaking. -

1) USN BBs. When I started playing the game, all I read was how they're too slow to be fun until the North Carolina, which is where thing get interesting. As it happens, I loooooved the Wyoming and had a blast with the Colorado. 2) Italian cruisers. Maybe they changed them just before release, I dunno, but again, the community seemed to think SAP was awful because it doesn't start fires. Also, "trash concealment" and "useless torps". Instead, I found the combination of agility, smoke and spotter plane makes them very survivable, SAP is awesome against DDs and the line is a clear overperformer for me. 3) German heavy DDs/scout cruisers. Again, the feedback I got was that the DPM is too low: several sources simply ignored the INSANE accuracy of their guns, improved AP angles and such. They're not the best at doing "DD stuff", but I enjoy the "flavor" of the line. Even the Z-31 I found much better than expected. On the other hand, British CVs I found to be just as bad as I expected: the Hermes was faaaaaar worse than the old Hosho, the terror of low tiers; the Implacable was a pain, since she's so reliant on damage-over-time; finally I'm crap with the Audacious, though it might be because in the meantime I've been spoiled by the Kaga
