You don't really need the Ryujo player to be "massively incompetent" for him not to be able to do much against a Massachussetts. The real incompetence is to go after a Massachussetts, of all things: she was the best AA ship in that MM, as is often the case.

Best DD hunter in the game imho -
Oh, come on. You've played CVs for...12 games, all of them in the Hosho (tier-for-tier, the strongest ship in the game), and here you are explaining us what's wrong with CV players? Try taking the Implacable against a bunch of "helpless" T10 light cruisers, assorted EU DDs and such, and come back telling me how it made you "feel superior".
-
Gets focused by 2 CVs, shoots down more planes than I've ever had in 20k games, wins with 3k+ XP (and survives), so logically he complains about CVs being OP. If anything, they should nerf that piece of nonsense that is the Massa. All I see here is a flex, tbh...

That'd be nice, I'd like to have a premium French cruiser... -

I'll be getting 36-39, depending on whether I finish some (re)grinds in time. I'm expecting maybe 2k dubs, 12k coal, 3k steel, 1 month's worth of premium, around 50k free XP (useless: I have 2M to spare ), flags&camos. A mid-tier premium would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. -
[POLL] Subs in ranked. Are you enjoying them?
tocqueville8 replied to tappo91's topic in General Discussion
Imho subs have no niche to fill We already have stealthy assassins in this game that can Dev Strike anyone without being seen, and they're called Destroyers. No air timer, no battery gimmick, no pinging, no depth control, no new mechanic to learn: if I want to play a sneaky ship and ambush my opponents, I'll go for a Shinonome/Haida/Kagero etc. Plus, I mean...I got into the game to sail the mighty Hood, the Yamato or maybe a Fletcher, not the U-myphonenumber.- 116 replies

Camos > Special flags (5 at T8, 10 at T9) > Super Container, iirc -
"Pula" in Italian is one of the words for "chaff", the protective outer layer of cereal seeds. The word for "swimming pool" is "piscìna".
-
I'd much rather have the bugged torps that go in a straight line but are basically fire-and-forget weapons, than subs in the current state, with all the pinging and the other gimmicks. And I don't seem to be the only one who can't work them for crap: I sunk 3 in as many QE games in Ranked, while I've never been touched by any of their torps.
-
I don't think so, the Slava's over-reliance on hitting broadsides is not. And the firespamming of the Thunderer is also a gimmick. Again, yes I know. I'm not an idiot, I know the difference between arcade and simulator. It is to me. All lines in this game have a "flavor", and IJN CAs being good at kiting, as far as flavors go, is historically accurate, as their operational doctrine was to lure the US fleet into a trap and launch a bunch of torps as they retreated. It's the arcade version of what the ships were supposed to do in real life. IJN supercruisers are the opposite of static: they roam at the back exchanging long-range gunnery. Ships like Stalingrad, Riga or Yamato are often played much more static, not to mention all the CL/HE-spamming DDs.
-
I know that, I'm not an idiot. What I'm saying is that, while many lines are more arcade-y, which is fine by me, Azuma and Yoshino (and IJN cruisers in general) are actually pretty reasonable even by historical standards, which is a plus.
-
That's...pretty much what real warships did IRL, it's just that this it seems odd in a game that at this point is a tactical cover-based shooter, where several lines of ships (Dutch, USN and Soviet CAs, Soviet BBs, etc.) just park next to some island and do area denial with their absurd tankiness or even more absurd mountain-penetrating radar.
-
I think it's nice that they've basically added the possibility for a "lighthouse build" on BBs as well, especially on the British line: - the new skill encourages you to let fires burn and draw enemy fire - there's a skill that improves healing, mainly useful to repair said fires - there's a new skill that also improves healing
-
Bad salvoes are always a possibility, but maybe that BB was also trying the new skill, the one that gives +5% dispersion to enemy shells for each fire the ship has. In the second image, that BB looks like she has 2 fires on the superstructure (no Fire Prevention), so maybe that explains it a bit.
-
Thunderers tend to stay faaaaar away, as do British BBs in general. Unless you're being rushed, the BB is going to be far enough that hitting the superstructure is going to be a lot easier than farming the nose, in my experience. Also, at close range sometimes AP is just the better option. Plus Aki and Kita sometimes fight T6-7s with a 26 mm bow, so no IFHE needed at all. It's not a useless skill, but AFT gives you more tactical options, while RPF and Fearless Brawler are great for DD hunting.
-
Maybe...in theory... ...but in practice 32 mm plating is fairly rare, even at high tiers. IFHE allows a Kitakaze to melt a Lion or a République (or an Alaska), but most high tier BBs have 38-60 mm deck plating, and the same is true for Petro and Stalingrad. Imho 4 points are much better spent on AFT, which allows you to engage those targets from a safer position and to use your smokescreen to the fullest. RPF is also nice to have.

Item #1: a strong performance in the Halland, after switching to a gun build Item #2: I gave the GK a second chance after the skill rework, and I must she's a lot of fun when you get the right opportunity. Bonus item: the other day, around 19:30, I spotted LHD Trieste (L 9890) returning to La Spezia after sea trials. She was launched in 2019 at Castellammare di Stabia, near Naples, and she's supposed to be commissioned in 2022. As I understand, she's the largest warship built for Italy since the end of WW2 (33.000 tons or so), and she'll carry a combination of F-35s, helicopters, as well as amphibious landing crafts from a floodable well deck. My initial reaction was to think it was a Queen Elizabeth class CV, but they're both deployed elsewhere, plus the shape of the two islands is different I took the pictures (with my phone, nothing fancy) from Lerici castle, at about 4 km. In the background, from left to right, are the islands of Tino (a military outpost), Palmaria (villas, tourist resorts, etc.), then the mainland, starting with Porto Venere (a very pictoresque small town, which I recommend visiting if you're in the area). La Spezia, the provincial capital, is further to the right, not visible here. Cheers -

To be fair, there are several ships in this game whose purpose in real life was to hunt merchant vessels: Spee, Scharnhorst... And pretty much all torpedoes here are about 50% faster than their real-life counterparts. -

Unfortunately, all the reworks of captain skills/modules/basic mechanics, not to mention buffs and nerfs, have throughout the years made many of her reviews obsolete, which is one of the few things I detest about the game -
It's worth pointing out that Ohio secondaries have MUCH better fire chance than Georgia secondaries: 9% vs 5%.
-
Vampire 2 and Ohio if you want consistency and carrying ability. Emilio, Druid and Slava, possibly Colbert, if you want something gimmicky, fun and different, but probably not very versatile. Imho it depends on how many T9-10 you have at the moment: if few, choose a powerful RB ship to complement them; if many, go for something different which you're going to play when you want a challenge. Personally, I first set eyes on the Ohio, but since I have Montana, Georgia and Vermont, I opted for Emilio and Colbert first. The Emilio is an average performer for me (59% WR or something), but she's a lot of fun when things go right. Someone with more patience than me will easily do 63-65% WR. The Colbert is a below average performer for me (50% WR compared to 58% or so), and can't carry for crap, but the dakka-dakka playstyle is great for stress release, so I don't regret buying her. Definitely a tough ship to master. At the moment I'm still undecided between Druid and Vampire 2, but since I have Smaland, Z-52 and Daring, another cap contester isn't really necessary, so I'm inclined towards the Druid.

So why is WG so obstinate in refusing to grant player requests?
tocqueville8 replied to Camperdown's topic in General Discussion
Your point, unfortunately, is weak to begin with, and further undercut by the fact I mentioned. Until proven otherwise, the people who write on the forums, heck the people who *read* the forums, are simply not representative of the playerbase. They might be of many different countries and of fairly different skill level, just like the playerbase, but as they consume all this information they have a degree of awareness about the game, its economy, its support and its business practices that a lot of the playerbase lacks. Disgruntling veteran players is, I'm afraid, a feature of the system: WG doesn't want them around criticizing bad Armory deals and s****ing on every new line that's released because it's paper/OP/trash No, they want new players who will experience the game from scratch, buy a bunch of premium ships (either for historical interest, or because they think they're better and would allow them to win more) and premium time to grind faster. Meanwhile, I have most silver T10s and more premium ships that I can play, so as a customer I've been basically squeezed already. I could buy the Indianapolis, but what's the point when I have New Orleans and Baltimore, both with a (free) permacamo? I could buy the Atlanta, but what's the point when I have Wooster and Colbert, maybe Flint and Austin in the future (and for free) as well? What am I going to buy? Premium time, to grind some Research Bureau white elefant faster? The 1st premium I bought for real money, the Dunkerque, is still my most played ship, and any new premium is lucky if she gets half as many games as that. I'm sure some variation of this applies to most other players with 10k+ games: at some point it make more business sense to bring in new players and sell them stuff, even new stuff that messes up the game's mechanics or economy or whatever, than to please veteran (and discerning) players. TL;DR I don't mean to be rude, I'm just saying WG probably *wants* player turnover. -

1% of peak hour players, which isn't the whole playerbase. -
I dunno...when torps reload in 76s at most, you can use them to snipe DDs fairly often, if you take RPF and are good at guessing what the enemy is going to do. But yes, a gun build is probably more effective overall.
