Please bring back some reward for achievements

Imho 10 signals per achievement, a flat number for all, was a bit off: - when they stopped giving them, I had 900+ secondaries/CQE signals - unless I played A LOT, my Dreadnought signals were always plentiful, to the point where I could basically use them in every match, so that there was no decision involved - Devastator awards were too rare at mid tiers: 60k fire damage is peanuts to a Conqueror shooting at BBs with 100k+ hp, but it's nearly impossible below T7 - Liquidator was absurdly rare for a while - only 10 flags for a Solo Warrior seemed a bit cheap, considering you can get 20 Papa Papas for, what, 3.2-6.4k coal? They should reinstate signals for achievement, but they should also vary the numbers according to the difficulty in obtaining them.

Solumn petition to WG re: access to ranked

    1) The average number of ships spotted doesn't care about the number of games played. It's an AVERAGE. Do YOU understand stats in general? The avg spotting damage doesn't care either, when the avg tier is virtually the same (7.3 vs 7.5). And no, he spotted 1.88 ships per game, you spotted 0.71. What numbers are YOU looking at? He plays DDs more and he spots more, as one would expect. Period. 2) At T9-10 you play more with BBs, he plays more with DDs, so of course you outdamage him: BBs shoot at other BBs and cruisers for their main targets, while DDs have to get past the enemy DDs first, which limits their damage potential. 3) Individual winrate, at a given tier, is the only reasonable measure of ability. I'd say by definition. Anything else might describe your "style" as a player, which is fine, but good players don't just outlive or outdamage the others: they outwin them, pure and simple. Your superior survival rate is useless if it doesn't translate into more wins. And again, BBs simply survive more by default, as they have more hp and a heal and they usually hang back. Kills per game is also not a good metric: a DD that spots, captures and uses his torps well for area denial is worth more than a BB that stays alive longer, sinks a few more enemies over some games, but brings less map control and wins. No offense, but you're quite a bit worse than the OP: he beats you by about 5 points in every ship type, and that's a lot. If I tried to claim that I'm better than a DD main who wins 65% of his games, just because I outdamage him as I play BBs, I'd be laughed out of the room

Solumn petition to WG re: access to ranked

Sorry, buddy, but no: the OP is a better player than you. You outdamage him because his high-tier ships are DDs (he's got more spotting, both ships and damage) and cruisers while yours are cruisers and BBs (Iowa, Soyuz, Musashi...), but unlike any other stat, the winrate doesn't lie. Being ahead by survival rate or airplanes shot down is meaningless if you lose more games.

50% for Silver is just too punishing, imho. In my experience, a 60% player is just as dangerous as a 65% one, it's just that the latter is more consistent in his games, he's less likely to die first due to some mistake, etc. Basically, 55-60% is where people become cunning enough to outplay me even if I don't make a mistake. On the other hand, a 45% player isn't just less consistent than a 49% one: he's a lot worse with the base mechanics. 49% is where you don't think strategically and you need someone else to tell you what to do (points, caps, who is where on the map...), and you can't carry because you're not very good with tactics (overmatch, citadel placement, drive-bys, ramming...), but you'll play alright. 45% makes you basically a glorified bot. 35% WR or so is alleged to be the floor for afk players, but just driving around sponging up some damage and occasionally hitting something, even if you never aim at a citadel or set a permafire intentionally, should raise you to at least 45%. 49ers will work with you if you ask them in chat, explain your plan, etc. They're often decent players that lack some guidance/leadership. But 45ers are in a world of their own: no communication in chat, clueless broadsides, absurd use of consumables, etc.

Torpedos are even more broken now!

This is just embarassing. Torpedoes sailing straight is one of the core mechanics of the game: it should've been working flawlessly since beta, if not earlier. Forget conditional captain skills, Dutch airstrikes, IFHE and submarines. Torps going off-target is like 2+2=5: if that doesn't work, any nonsense is possible.

    Missouri: is worthwhile?

You'd be better off getting a permacamo for the Iowa: it's much cheaper and the improved heal instead of radar is a reasonable trade on a BB: it allows you to take, let's say, Furious instead of Fire Prevention and Engine Mod instead of Dmg Con Mod 2. You would be about as resistant to fires as in the Missouri, but with better handling and a gunnery advantage over your opponents (better reload for you, worse dispersion for them).
  7. To be fair to the OP, last year's Anniversary Event started on the 3rd of the month, and it's a bit weird for an anniversary to be tossed around by two weeks...

What are your preliminary plan for the birthday event?

Because T8-9 first wins are going to give special flags, you can probably speed up your grind considerably and get even more special signals or supercontainers, provided you have enough credits. With a good camo, all economic and special signals mounted, as well as premium time, a good game should give you about 20k xp, 20k free xp, 40k cpt xp, to give you an idea. In your case, it might be enough to get the Montana and the Daring, for instance.

Mods - what's allowed and disallowed?

There's nothing strange about that: it's just a matter of pressing 'R' just as the HE salvo hits you, so the fire won't even go for one tick. For what it's worth, CVs also automatically repair fires and floodings, they have an insane immunity duration (60s compared 5-20s for most other ships), and fires only last 5 seconds.

What are your preliminary plan for the birthday event?

It was 1 container (5 flags) for T8s and 2 containers (10 flags) for T9, I just checked to make sure.

What are your preliminary plan for the birthday event?

As far as I understand, "gift containers" carry 5 special signals each, which is straightforward. T9s used to give 10 last year The tokens will buy permacamos for some tech tree T7s (not that interesting), expendable camos (always nice), Distant Voyages containers (do I really need my Montana to look like a decomposing alligator? ) Honestly, it's all up to the price/conversion. My plans are to: - play normally (Random/Ranked) each ship that has a decent captain, over some time - play some ships in Coop if the captain is, say, below 10 points - wait to open my SCs until I have more time to play - use premium time + special signals to farm free xp: maybe get the Agir, maybe save for a regrind (Vampire 2? Slava...?) - see what to make of the tokens I'm a bit disappointed of the T7 selection for permacamos: I already have one for the Gadjah and the Zara, and the rest are...meh. No Fiji, no Myoko, no Algerie...and they were all built in steel!

    Dreadnought Achievement

Yup, "Second Wind" gives almost half of your hp back, which is especially strong on DDs because they don't have a citadel, so they can queue at least 50% of the damage they suffered (unless they take a torpedo, I understand). This is me enjoying basically a British superheal on the Kitabote:
  13. tocqueville8

    Dreadnought Achievement

Same, a couple of times, and once the Kaga as well. For me, it was Yamamoto's "Second Wind" talent: you can activate it on any IJN ship, in theory.

Back-to-back games in the GK! About 2k xp each, nothing fancy. Honestly, I should've been more patient with this ship when I first got her

Super Container Loot Thread [ topics merged ]

Not really a SuperContainer, but I was expecting a Tachibana Lima or 2k dubs in refund, so this is nice... ...on the other hand, what on Earth is a Katori?
  17. 1) Long queues. 2) Double CV games in ships with no AA are a pain. 3) Bad captain xp economy. Most of my strong captains (19-21 points) are trained for T9-10 tech tree ships, and because I don't have many low tier premiums, I have to use captains with 6-10 points. It's not that I can't sealclub with elite commanders, it's that I can't farm free cpt xp like I would on a T6-8 premium or a T9-10 freemium. 4) Low silver/signals payoff: there's no point going there to farm achievements since they don't give signals anymore. 5) The other players tend to be bots, newbies or sealclubbers: it's lacking that "middle class" of decent players that makes the rest of the tiers a smoother experience, imho. 6) I'm not grinding or re-grinding anything at T3. Even though I have most tech tree T10s, there's always some new line with an enticing T10 to reach, or an old line I'm replaying in order to unlock the Colbert, the Druid or another gimmicky ship. 7) No permacamos for low tiers. I have some at T6-7 on ships I like (QE, Fuso, Pepsicola...), so at least permanent captains make more progress there, and it's satisfying. I'd get a nice-looking permacamo for the Sampson or the Izyaslav if they were, say, 400 dubs, but we can't. 8) I kind of played out the low tiers when I felt I wasn't ready yet for T7-8, but now I'm fairly comfortable at T9-10... EDIT: I would probably play more if I could use a 19-21 point captain at low tiers, but only half his points were effective. That way, I wouldn't have a massive advantage over other players (sort of...), but I would still be able to grind (free) cpt xp. And no retraining required, or only a few thousand xp at most.

Which is a better torp boat? (Srsly)

Tbh, I have both and I'm apparently decent with both, but I very rarely land torps with the Marceau: reload is awful, speed is awful. Then again, gun reload is awful on the Kléber, so maybe there's room to mimick one with the other. I'll get back to you

Which is a better torp boat? (Srsly)

That's an entirely different animal, though. I mean, I love low tier Russian DDs, including the Okhotnik, but their torps are only for ambushes, while the LU Kleber can legitimately stalk BBs and torp them from stealth. It's the mid-tier torpedo boat experience (concealment around 6 km, torp range around 8), sped up considerably.

Buff secondary brawler option for C. Colombo and Kremlin

That's an understatement. Even without IFHE USN secondaries pen 21 mm, so they can do maybe 20k dmg to DDs and superstructures, in a match where you get to use them for a bit. Meanwhile, Italian 90s can't pen DD hulls nor BB superstructures even with IFHE, so they're even worse than the Richi's and the Alsace's 100s. Italian 90s are still going to set fires, but you can't use your main guns to follow up with permafires, so in a 1v1 brawls that's next to useless. Meanwhile, I think I got more than one Arsonist in the Georgia, and even a Devastator once...

Which is a better torp boat? (Srsly)

Imho, Gearing is the better torpedoboat. She has: - way better range, unless you take the nonsensical 20 km Shima torps, which get spotted from the Moon - way better reload, unless you take the Shima's LU, which is expensive and makes you very clumsy in any dueling situation - actually decent AA, so you can hold a flanking position a bit longer The Shima is faster and has better concealment, but imho that is offset by her shorter range, which forces her to get closer, which is especially problematic if there are radar cruisers about (there will be). The Gearing can be a threat from further out, and earlier on. For self-defense against other DDs, the Gearing also has an advantage due to her good turret traverse. The Shima clearly brings higher alpha, so more ambushing potential, but the Gearing can smoke up a friendly cruiser before the cap, go out and spot while landing torps from much further out, and with excellent reload that makes flooding damage more likely. It's a more consistent plan, imho. The Gearing is also more likely to have torps ready *before* entering the first cap, which might surprise the enemy DD before he turns away and gives you the stern. Basically, the Gearing is a better teamplayer, while the Shima is a better solo predator. Also, personally I prefer going for RPF on any torpedoboat, which is useful in general for a DD, but particularly for one that might want to blind-torp in the opening, around a cap, and which might be on the defensive in the late game, as the build makes her less survivable in a knife fight. For what it's worth, this is my Gearing build: https://wowsft.com/ship?index=PASD013&modules=11211&upgrades=145222&commander=PCW001&skills=5400610&ar=100&consumables=112&pos=0 (for some reason the link doesn't register that I take Def AA, not speed boost). Then again, we all know the best torpedoboat in the game is a LU Kleber

Only 2.1k xp, but this would've been a 70-signals-game with the old system Sneaky bugger... This was with PQ's suggested "reload build" (minus the Legendary Upgrade).
