That's only 7 games in which you have all the extra XP flags flying, the +200% XP doubloon camo, and earn Kraken Unleashed, High Caliber, and Confederate. Ez.

Mahan - good universal boat. The trollish torp setup can surprise enemies. Shiratsuyu - very hard to do well in if you aren't really good at timing torps and using the booster. Hated the boat, but went through it for the Akizuki. Akatsuki - way better torp boat than the Shira. The guns are workable and the fast torp reload make it into a dangerous bote. Going to buy the perma camo for it soon. Minsk - good flanker, but has to play like a fast cruiser. Bad concealment and suicide torps preclude capping. Maass - the combination of hydro and 5 guns is really good, the torps are ok. I think it's the best universal boat at tier, ahead of the Mahan. Gadjah - I really wanted to love this boat, but the slow torp reload and low velocity guns brought me nothing but disappointment. In skilled hands really dangerous. If you want a universal DD good at capping, torping, and scouting, I would go with either Maass or Mahan. When it comes to torpedo boats the Akatsuki is king in my opinion, as it can pump out 9 10km fishes every minute or so without giving anything up. If you want a gunboat buy the Leningrad, it's like the Minsk but with workable torps. The Gadjah has a problem of being unique in a line of very inconsistent ships, I did great in the Fushun since I had the Anshan, hated the Jianwei though. If you haven't played the line, leave it, most likely we will be getting the N-Class later on.

That's why keeping a roster of reserve captains is so nice. I have my Tirpitz captain retrained as my Bismarck captain, my old Bismarck captain is driving the Big Freddy and will transition into the Sausage, while my old Gneisenau captain which I trained from the Nassau up, is driving the Gneis and the Scharn. In addition I also have a Fat Albert/Bayern captain which I use when I want to play some fun games. And those are only my German BB captains...

I have a completely different opinion of this ship based on my experience against and in it. A typical faceroll game in the Lyon driven by me looks like this: -Omaha gets into position bow on, citadel through the bow with some overpens, 2K HP left. -Königsberg at max range, all shots miss save one, citadel, Königsberg dead. -Galissonniere tries to angle and run away, how sweet, double citadel, dev strike. -Nelson turns around the corner, one salvo, half HP gone. -Queen Elizabeth shows some side, five pens, 2/3 HP evaporates. Earning High Caliber, Confederate, and Kraken Unleashed is so damn easy in this ship. It's disgusting. I really wanted to like this ship, as I don't have too many silver T7 BBs that I want to keep after the grind (only one in fact, the Gneisenau). But this ship offers no challenge, no excitement, it's like playing Orion at T4 or having @xXx_Blogis_xXx in a Saipan on your team. I'd rather jump into a Pensacola (which I've kept with the perma camo on and the Measure 22 mod) and try my skill against the red team, because I want to have fun and ez Lyon mode just isn't.

I bought the Aigle and used the 25x 200%xp missions to push a spare 10p captain to 15p. That's over 555.000 captain XP. Even using camos and signals sparingly it is easy to get a 10p captain from scratch on that thing.

Thanks to this change my interest in this ship rose. It is a very good change.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Aragathor replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
You're right, I forgot that the new T9 has one extra turret. This makes my point for it invalid, since the ship gets compensated in a way. RoF is only 1s better than it has right now. And I don't think the extra consumable and a better turret rotation are going to compensate for the fact that it has to get really close to fight. Which brings me to the better concealment, it's nice but it only works until you open fire. So unless you camp islands you'll be playing short games in the new Cleve. And let's not forget those rare T10 games the ship will be seeing... In comparison the Mogami has 3x3 guns up front, so it can angle and fire away without showing side, the Edinburgh has smoke to hide in, the Chapayev has range. -

The new stats for the test USN cruisers make me wonder whether WG sees the problems the ships are having... At T7 the gun reload of 13s will make the New Orleans very comfortable to play, in fact it will straight up overshadow the Indianapolis which has a 14.3s reload and only radar to compensate. At T8 the 13s reload is a nerf to the current reload of 12s. New Orleans has currently the worst avg. damage at tier, so the new Baltimore will be even worse with the new longer reload. At T9 a 13s reload is a joke, unless the old 10s reload is available as a gun upgrade. Otherwise MBM3 will be the only sane slot 6 pick. The T8 Cleveland guns keep their range of only 14,6. I see some suicide bote memes incoming. Giving the ship a spotter plane won't change much. -

The teased ships are: -T8 - IJN Asashio - getting a third or fourth rework since presented. Not going public anytime soon. -T7 - HMS Cossack - teased, bad reviews, gimmicked by WG. ETA unknown. -T8 - Z-39 - a ship worse in every category that counts than the silver Z-23. Teased, most likely being reworked. -T6 - T-61 - teased, previewed by CCs, announced for release twice. Shelved by WG for reasons unknown and will not be released. -T6 - USS Monaghan - teased and most likely will be released sometime this month. -T7 - Duca degli Abruzzi - previewed by CCs, found to be very meh, most likely to be released this month. -T9 - Kronshtadt - teased on the dev blog. -T3 - Varyag - dev blog tease, event reward ship. Right now we have the T8 Gascogne and the T6 Aigle in the shop as new ships.

More Battleship citadels - Wargamings "Intriguing Adjustment"
Aragathor replied to Admiral_H_Nelson's topic in General Discussion
And what would this accomplish? Because we already know the answer for that, it would punish the players who play BBs correctly. Johnny Windowlicker will continue to border hump in a Tirpitz, but that Missouri pushing a cap to radar or the Scharnhorst going after the enemy with guns, secondaries, and torps, will be discouraged to play for the team. And we really need more team play incentives and not less. There are a lot of bad BB players and there are badly designed BBs like the Conqueror, but making the class that is supposed to tank damage into a wet paper bag isn't the answer. And I'm saying this as someone who plays mostly cruisers. -
Nope. WG has removed the majority of ships from the shop and the tech tree so that we won't waste our money buying them. It was very thoughtful of them to help us save money in such a way. There is no rotation, at least there is none that has been announced. WG has also toned down the premium release schedule, with ships like the highly anticipated T-61 being shelved indefinitely and special offers like the French ships staying in the shop for weeks. They also removed the premiums below tier 5 so that collectors can have a breather and spend money elsewhere. In short a prefect example of WG sales logic, less shop items = better shop.

Aigle marathon, how's your progress been so far?
Aragathor replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
Mine is second highest after the Fushun, but since I don't play the Fushun anymore that's going to change as i improve the captain on the Aigle. -
Aigle marathon, how's your progress been so far?
Aragathor replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
What's there to laugh about? The Aigle is a good ship that is well balanced and unique. I have bought it and had a blast, first training my captain up to 15p, and then playing the Aigle campaign missions. In retrospect buying the ship instead of going for the marathon gave the ship a bit more value, instead of connecting it to a stressful grind. -
You forgot to add "bloated bundles" into point 2.

a - that's not how game design works. Unplanned changes, no matter how nice, rarely survive an encounter with the design team. They might file the changes for later or mark them as things to avoid. Either way the changes will go away. b - Stealth fire removal etc. were planned changes carefully designed to be global to avoid lawsuits. A "whoopsie we screwed the armor penetration" wasn't. Customer laws are quite harsh when it comes to producers screwing customers by accident, just look at things like car recalls due to airbag problems. c - now this is just empty whining. Deal with the fact that this change isn't here to stay.
-
I use it sometimes. There's nothing more hilarious than a ship blindly driving into a torp sent out as area denial.
-
A fix is needed because: a - it was never intended by WG to change the mechanics. b - they would need to pay back all the money spent by Tirpitz owners as the ship is sold with the turtleback as a feature. Also German BBs rely on their armor to compensate for their huge dispersion. c - ships like the Hindenburg would need to be rebalanced. Besides there's another problem, this unintended change in mechanics can influence future changes and destabilize the game. Just imagine if two full patches down the road all cruisers start eating citadels through the bow because "this change is good" but a small ballistics modification made their bows act as if they weren't there. Unintended changes are never good, no matter how nice you think the effects are.

Go to graphics settings. In the upper right part you'll find "animate small objects", see that the box is ticked. Should work.
-
There's only one premium ship that is worthy of being added to the game, the 1940 torpedo boat class represented by the T-61. Come on WG, we want it and we are willing to pay for it. There's no point in adding the rest of the Deutschland class, as Graf Spee is a representative. And instead of paper designs I'd rather see some real battlecruisers.
-
Well the one change I've been seeing is the amount of citadels Bismarck/Tirpitz players are eating. Short and medium range citadels have become common on those ships.

Are secondary builds still viable?
Aragathor replied to WashedandDeceased's topic in General Discussion
One thing about secondary builds is that they are very good at making people panic. A DD captain suddenly being barraged by an equivalent of 3 derpy DDs will start making mistakes. Hell, even a cruiser or battleship captain will start turning when the module damage starts rising. I have a Cleveland specced for secondaries and it's hilarious when I hunt DDs or get an enemy under the 7.6km range, because no one is expecting my ship to fire IFHE HE secondaries at them. I'm going to miss it when the bote goes to T8. -
Works as intended.®

Latest Q&A stated that T8 ships are fine, the MM is fine, only EU sees cases where almost 50% of all T8 battles are T10, this is fine too. /s WG has no desire to change or improve the MM in any way. They are too busy creating paper ships and glorious invincible Russian BBs cruisers. Now gib money.
-
Amen to that. This ship is almost worse than the Orion. It requires no skill and can delete any cruiser in range just by firing its guns. It's a paper design that has been chosen instead of an existing ship.
