Normally buying a Christmas crate triggers the flag. I think you need to gift a box to someone.

You can't, you either tally the flags yourself or just use them and hope for the best. -

USS Wichita on sale in the SEA server, My wallet stays closed though
Aragathor replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
Indeed. WGs attitude towards us, their customers, their plans and their decisions, have firmly turned this whale's wallet closed for the time. Besides, no matter how nice the ship is, WG will soon create a precedent in allowing them to nerf it to the ground for reasons. PS: I really wanted the Wichita. -
I know, noticed it after a clanmate mentioned the article, let me point out the problem: Last year they just gave out the flag, the year before it was a daily mission. Having it hidden behind a participate button means a lot of people will miss out because they didn't check the main page. My whole clan has guys on the lookout for such missions, so we can give a heads up to the others, so no one misses out. That's not player friendly.

[QUIZ] Meet the Ship of your Dreams
Aragathor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Me too, but it's already my most played ship. -
Greed Gaming at its finest. They didn't even bother to give out the V-Day flag like in the previous years.

Here's a quick summary of the event from me, as it seems that it already has ended. Boxes in the shop: The price to value ratio is off. The boxes with the low drop rate showcased by CCs and youtube videos made it easy for me not to buy any, even though I wanted the new skins for the Pan-Asian DDs. The lack of meaningful non RNG offers in the shop was disappointing. Arsenal doubloon offer: I'm appalled by the greed displayed by WG with the Arsenal offer. Requiring players to spend 26664 doubloons in total, for a premium T8 ship not available otherwise, is so insulting and greedy that it soured the rest of the event for me. If this is the future of this game then I'll spend my money elsewhere. Lunar New Year & Dragon Dance Ship missions: The highlight of the event in my opinion. A free special captain is always welcome, even though the mission was a grind. But it had no extra prerequisites so it was alright, although the last requirement of 250 secondary hits was a bit too restrictive. Directives: These were nothing special. The fact that WG decided to run the Lunar New Year event over 2 weeks, while having Pan-Asian ship missions in 4 is an enigma to me. The 18x free Lunar boxes were a disappointment for me and added to my conviction not to spend money on the event. I have unlocked 18 free boxes with the following content: 250 Doubloons - 3 (750) 5000 free XP - 4 (20000) 3 Lunar new year camo - 8 (24) 2 Type 69 camo - 2 (4) 1 Spring Sky camo - 1 Save for the doubloons the rewards were incredibly forgettable and the doubloons were only interesting because I wanted to buy a special captain in the Arsenal. Port, dragon A really nice addition, kept using it during the event. In my previous post I have mentioned the lack of the Lunar New year flag this year. Seeing as the flag in question has been added to the client (I checked the res file) but not given out, I'd like to know why WG decided to withhold it, any comment @MrConway? All in all I'm pretty disappointed with this year's lunar new year event, compared to the previous two years I have experienced, it was really lacking.

Seeing as Wg did not release a Chinese new year flag this year, and there's no V-Day mission in the client, what are you talking about?
-
Not necessarily a burden, but the majority of work will be done by those who play weekdays. Seeing how detached from the reality of their player base and game WG is, I'm surprised they haven't excluded weekend players outright. Needing a complicated qualifying system in the first place, already shows how contemptuous WG is of smaller clans and casual players, a clear sign they have it too good.

Are you still enjoying the game or you are going to uninstall?
Aragathor replied to Jean_Bart's topic in Archive
I'm not going anywhere, but I'm not entirely happy with where the game is going. I have enough premium time to not bother buying anything until after Christmas next year. -
So banning abusive and shady business practices is now a bad thing? Okay... I'm in support for an immediate age check for all loot boxes and long term regulation through classification as gambling, with the necessary and expensive licenses involved. I think that the current Wild West anarchy in gaming laws cannot continue. The fact that WG decided to put all of the event behind RNG boxes is a dirty move, not only towards Belgian players, but also as a harbinger of a future where you can't buy content outright but have to gamble for it.

A quick hop into my Ranger confirmed that CV gameplay is still unappealing and I'd rather play anything else including Krispy Kreme in T7. And I played a coop game. Attacking with only a few planes, while the rest of the squadron gets eaten by AA, is out there with ideas like releasing OP premiums against the advice of testers.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Aragathor replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
It's the amount, 4x3 rifles compared to other ships at tier. They are not special otherwise, in fact they are quite inferior to IJN and USN shells of same caliber. -
There is no WoT specific premium account. The shared premium is still active for all 3 games. The WoWS specific premium is a separate type of premium, and is not connected to or replacing the general premium time.

The Kriegsmarine's Greatest Gamble: The Channel Dash
Aragathor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
How about no? By early 1942 Royal Navy was dealing with massive problems, including ship shortages, losses, and the necessity to stretch itself further due to the Pacific War. Up to 1942 it has lost 3 battleships, 2 battlecruisers, 3 carriers, 1 escort carrier, 14 cruisers, 62 destroyers. The Home Fleet was in Scapa Flow and the channel was defended only by light vessels and aircraft. So it cannot be said that the Royal Navy was undisputed or even really able to intercept them with large surface vessels. And while the Dash was audacious, it wasn't a victory. -
That's easy. This is what happens when you think that you know better than your customers what they, the customers, want. Here's the sales pitch for the Viribus "Take the L with the VU!". Flamu has already said its worthless, and he played the ship. You forget that Furutaka has armor, Exeter has an above water citadel wrapped in tissues. It will be a T5 Molotov, citadels from any angle.
-
Yay, more sledgehammer balancing. With that sigma, low hp, and no AA, Viribus is dead on arrival. But you knew that when you put her at T5. That ship is barely a T4. Exeter? A T6 ship forcibly balanced at T5. Why don't you make an ingame poll about that ship to see whether people know about her, and want her at T5? Or a poll in a news article? And yes, the reason we are so vocal now, is because we don't want you to come to us after the ship has been released, and say "we need to balance it anew".
-
iChase pointed out that WG might bring out another T5 beast to replace the GC. Guess what cruiser currently in testing will soon come to the shop? And is OP as Hell? That's right, Exeter, a ship that should be at T6. And after WG has sold enough of them, Sub_Octavian will try to sell you a bill of goods, by claiming they never meant the ship to be so OP and are going to nerf it to the ground. You can have some doubloons if you don't like it.

First, the introduction of a new line of ships or changes to the meta are the reasons for the power creep. Ships that before were strong, are suddenly weakened by the introduction of a strong counter. Just look at the Dunkerque, she was decent, then came the British BBs and IFHE became the new meta with American CLs. Suddenly she became a weak ship, as she couldn't withstand HE due to 25mm armor. Second, the PEF debate still runs, because WG is incredibly bad at fine tuning ships. They balance things with a hammer. Here's the PEF example: During testing PEF had really good concealment. This was pointed out to WG. WG then nerfed the concealment. And the reload. And the turret traverse. Instead of just changing the concealment imbalance, they brutalized the ship into being boring and not really competitive. It became a ship with few weak guns and a RoF equal to ships that have better guns. Many WG defenders pointed out that Dunkerque, a similar ship, had the same reload. Now Dunkerque has a better reload, while the PEF has a battleship's reload and turret traverse on much weaker guns. Last, but not least, power creep is when older game elements are made obsolete by new ones. Like Blyskawica, which after the stealth firing nerf was made obsolete by further introductions of stronger T7 premium and silver ships, and buffs to other T7 ships. She went from really good, to a joke. That's what power creep means. It can be avoided by having a team that reacts to meta changes and balances ships in a timely manner, so that even the oldest ships in the game can compete. Sadly, WG doesn't really understand that and reacts too slowly, making ships obsolete for large stretches of time.
