    [12.6] Unique Flags

Download Update 0.11.1 No new flags in this update, because I was busy updating the mod for the new file structure for flags, so while everything has changed behind the scenes, nothing should have changed for you. One of the good things about the new structure is that you can now install several flag mods at the same time. This is why I have decided to discontinue the Rising Sun version of this mod – if you want to use the Rising Sun flag for Japan together with this mod, you should get the real deal from fellow mod maker fugetsu, which will change the flag everywhere in the UI as well. To install, move the folder res_mods from the mod download to folder World_of_Warships/bin/5191542 in the World of Warships installation on your computer. The mod is also available in Aslain's Modpack.

    [12.6] Unique Camouflage Plus

Download Update 0.11.1 The new tech tree tier Xs Delniy and Preussen have been added to the mod. To make Delniy's face look less like a Fallout power armour helmet, her superstructure is painted in the style of 1950s Soviet locomotives. Also, Sejong and Jinan have been added. To install, move the folder res_mods from the mod download to folder World_of_Warships/bin/5191542 in the World of Warships installation on your computer. The mod is also available in Aslain's Modpack and the Wargaming ModStation.

    [12.6] Unique Camouflage Plus

Removing camouflages from the mod is possible, but not exactly easy, I'm afraid. You will need: A text editor, such as Windows Notepad The WoWS Unpack Tool from here https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/113847-all-wows-unpack-tool-unpack-game-client-resources/ A basic understanding of XML First, learn how to read the camouflages.xml. This file assigns visuals to the camouflages that are in the game. Each camouflage is an entry in the camouflages.xml, for example like this: The <name> tag tells you which in-game camouflage this entry refers to, in this case the Type 2 camouflage The <targetShip> tag defines the ship to which this camouflage is applied, in this case Mogador. There are also entries without a <targetShip> tag, but a <shipGroups> tag or no tag at all. These are not applied to individual ships, but groups of ships instead, The tags within the <Textures> tag are the textures used by the camouflage, in this case TheKingOfUm-Ladders.dds The <annotation> tag usually contains helpful information for identifying the camouflage There are three different types of camouflages in the mod. You will need to identify the type, as the actions required to remove the camo differs by type. First Type: Simple texture replacements For these camouflages, I simply replaced the game texture with a texture of my own. This is the case with the Valentine's Day camouflage, for example: As you can see, the <name> of the texture is Ship_dazzle_tile_camo_val_10.dds. This is a typical WG camouflage texture name. Also, you will notice that there are no <targetShip> tags, but <shipGroup> tags instead. This is typical for bonus camouflages. Note that there are several entries for most of these camouflages for different ship groups. For these camouflages, it is enough to delete the texture file in the mod. Once you do that, the original texture from the game files will be loaded instead, and the camo is unmodded. Second type: Complete changes to the camouflage For these camouflages, I have not only created a new texture file, but also changed the entry in the camouflages.xml. The Union Jack camouflage is an example: The texture name is TheKingOfUm-Plus-UnionJack.dds, which is a typical filename for textures made by myself This one also has <shipGroups> instead of <targetShip>, as it is also a bonus camouflage. For these camouflages, you need to revert the entries in the camouflages.xml to the original state. Use the WoWS Unpack Tool to unpack the original camouflages.xml, copy the entries for the camouflage with the correct name (in this case, camo_Union_Jack_tile), and paste it over the entry in the mod's camouflages.xml. Note that there are several entries for most of these camouflages for different ship groups. You need to copy and paste all entries, or you will only revert the camouflage for some ship groups. Third type: Type 1/2/5 for tech tree ships For these camouflages, I have created new entries in the camouflages.xml and new textures. For example, Le Fantasque Type 5: These camouflages always have a specific <targetShip>, have either TheKingOfUm or WAWAN in the annotation, and have the names camo_1_tile, camo_2_tile or camo_3_tile. Also, unlike bonus camouflages, these only have one entry, as they are only appied to one ship. Here, the mod overwrites the game's default camouflage. You just have to delete the entry from the camouflages.xml, and the game will return to using the default Type 1/2/5 for this ship. For your case, first you have to find the entries for the New Year Sky camouflage. To do so, make a text search in the camouflages.xml. You're lucky, because I apparently added a comment in the file that contains "New Year Sky", so it's easy to find. The name of this camo in the XML file is camo_NY2022_tile. As you see, sometimes the names in the file are different from what the camouflage is called in the game, so sometimes a little bit of searching is necessary to find the right entries. The entries look like this: As you can see, its texture has TheKingOfUm in the name, and it's a camouflage with <shipGroups> tags. This means that it is a "Second type" camouflage and you have to replace the entries in the camouflages.xml with the original entries, as described in the section of this post. You will have to repeat this after every new update to the mod. Good luck!

Yes, for bigger German ships, I follow the German tradition of using the coat of arms of the place/the person that the ship is named after. Like many things these days, it starts with a Google search, followed by a visit to Wikipedia... Of course it helps if you speak German when you're researching German coats of arms, and I guess it doesn't hurt if you are interested in heraldry, either. VI Mackensen: Coat of arms of the Mackensen family VII Prinz Heinrich: He was a member of the Hohenzollern family, so several coats of arms would have been possible; as his official title was "Prince of Prussia", I went with the Prussian coat of arms with the Hohenzollern coat of arms on top, taken from the lesser coat of arms of the German Empire 1889-1918 VIII Zieten: Coat of arms of the Zieten family IX Prinz Rupprecht: He was a member of the Wittelsbacher family, the royal family of the Kingdom of Bavaria, so: Coat of arms of the House of Wittelsbach X Schlieffen: Coat of arms of the Schlieffen family. This is a bit tricky, as Wikipedia mentions the coat of arms changing over the centuries. We do not know which Schlieffen the ship is named after, but since a few ships of the line were named after contemporary people, I went with Alfred von Schlieffen (mostly known today for the Schlieffen Plan). So I went with the coat of arms as of 1812, which the family would have used during his times. A little Google Image search brought me to the website of the family. As the coat of arms on that site matches the description on Wikipedia, I used this coat of arms. However, the original design uses more colours than the WoWS camouflages allow, so I had to replace some colours with grey. Not going to kill you, but I hope you understand that it is literally impossible for me to make everybody happy. If I change the camouflage, there will be somebody else who doesn't like the new camouflage and will ask me to change it again, and then when I have changed it again, somebody else will be unhappy - and in the end I will spend all my time on changing camouflages, while still not making everybody happy. These days, the Type 1 and Type 2 camouflages have identical bonuses to the Type 5, so you can always use the Type 1 or Type 2 if you don't like the look of the Type 5. Thank you! I really appreciate that :) We'll see. If the winning design for Aviere is implemented in the game, I will need a replacement for that, so maybe I'll just use my design then...

If it's the Unique Camouflage Mod that you're referring to - the main thread for that mod is over here : https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/43815-010110-unique-camouflage-plus/ If you post your questions regarding the mod there, you'll have a better chance of me noticing them :) I normally only make patterns for tier IV+, and special camouflages (like the Mackensen Type 5) for tier VI+, in order to keep the workload at least somewhat manageable. If you want to try your hand at camo modding yourself, this is a good beginner's guide: https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/130361-camouflage-modding-camouflage-textures-and-xml-manipulation

    Results: Aviere Camouflage Contest

Congratulations and good luck to all finalists. Don't be too disappointed if your design wasn't chosen, my impression is that the selection of the entries was also influenced by the wish to have a broad choice of different styles. Because of that, if your design was in a style with a lot of competition, it might not have been chosen despite having high quality.

Download Update 0.10.11 Download Update 0.10.11 Rising Sun version I'm continuing the theme of using steamship company house flags as replacements for the Steam flags. And while the new Ranked reward flag cannot be hoisted yet, when the time comes, we'll be prepared. Four years on Steam is replaced by the house flag of the Occidental and Oriental Steamship Company Ranked reward flag Superships is replaced by the flag of the Pays Nantais, where the Batillus class supertankers were built in the city of Saint-Nazaire. They were the longest and largest ships ever built per original plans (and, like the superships in WoWS, already obsolete when they were launched). Download Update 0.10.11 A bit of a filler update as I prepare the Panasian cruisers and the new tier Xs, Delniy and Preussen. The Peaceful Skies camouflage gets a replacement that is intended to look like an improvised pattern painted over the standard grey ship by the crew away from the home port: Also, a simple replacement for the Sea Smackdown camouflage is added, and Dunkerque Black is changed so that she looks like the regular modded Dunkerque if you deactivate all the fancy camouflages. [12.6] Unique Camouflage Plus

Download Update 0.10.10 The mod now includes Type 1/2/5 camouflages for the German submarines, so you can go down and get wet in style The Type 5s for U 69 and U 190 use insignia inspired by the original boats. For U 69, I decided on a less crowded look after a theoretical repainting, keeping the famous laughing cow. U 2501, as far as I know, didn't have any insignia IRL, so she got a fictional one (which maybe will look familiar to people who learned to swim in Germany...). The KOTS 13 camouflages got a rework and the new Warhammer 40,000 camouflages were added: Blyskawica's 303 Squadron camouflage is made more realistic. Due to the way the camouflage is implemented in the game, for the first time, I could extend the camouflage pattern to the deck as well: According to the patch notes, Type 1, Type 2 and Type 5 camouflages now have identical bonuses. What this means for our mod is that you can now use Type 1, Type 2 or Type 5 without losing any bonuses; in other words, it gives you the freedom to choose the patterns that you like best. There are some older lines that have missing camouflages (e.g. Type 2s for destroyer lines). I want to fill these gaps, but that is a low priority task for now. To install, move the folder res_mods from the mod download to folder World_of_Warships/bin/4747907 in the World of Warships installation on your computer. [12.6] Unique Camouflage Plus

It's a bit complicated :) Now I don't work at Wargaming, so I'm not the highest authority on this, but this is what I have found to work well for me. 1. You should use the resolution that is necessary to make your design look good. If you have small text and sharp lines in your design, that usually means using the maximum resolution, in this case 4096x4096. 2. If you use this texture, it often looks bad when you are further away from the texture, as the Rendering process cannot handle downscaling very well. Here's an example in the left half of the picture. This looks especially bad if you're looking on a ship from bow to stern, for example, with the stern being further away from you. The bow of the ship will look good, but the stern end will look very pixelated. There are two things that you can do to avoid this: 2a. Save the file with mipmapping enabled. This means that the file contains downsized versions of the texture, which the graphics card can use when it is displaying things that are further away. Since the downscaling is done by your graphics program and not the 3D card, the result is much better. You get a much smoother look (see right half of the example). However, this also means that the file gets considerably bigger, by 33%. Wikipedia has a helpful article on the subject. 2b. Save downscaled versions of the texture, but don't store them in one file. Instead, save each downscaled image as a separate file. This is what WG are doing with the .dd0, .dd1 etc. files. With this method is that you get all the advantages of using a mipmap, but if the game wants to render a ship that is very far away, it doesn't have to load one big texture. Instead it just has to load the smallest file. These files should be saved without mipmapping of course, otherwise there is no benefit to this method. So what should you do? If the game doesn't support multiple .dd0, .dd1, etc. files for your texture (this is the case for camouflage textures, for example): Use method 2a, i.e. save one mipmapped file at the highest resolution. If the game supports multiple .dd0, .dd1, etc. files (this is the case for a number of ship _a.dds textures, such as the Des Moines textures): Use method 2b, that is, save your texture with the highest resolution without mipmapping and call it ...dd0, scale it down by 50%, save again without mipmapping and call it ...dd1, scale it down by 50%, save again without mipmapping and call it ...dd2, and so on. Essentially, replicate the texture files that you got from the unpacker. If this is too complicated for you (it is for me, to be honest), you can also use method 2a, save the texture at the highest resolution with mipmapping and call it ...dds, just like you would for a ship that still uses just one big .dds file. This will override the .dd0, .dd1, etc. textures in the game and work just fine. However, you will lose the performance improvement from using the separate files, so if you want your mod to work on very old computers, you should maybe not do this. It looks like the last of the three options is what you did with your Des Moines. If you mean the blue consumable camouflage, and not any of the permanent camouflages that were available at various anniversaries: That is called <name>camo_wows_birthday_tile</name> in the XML file. It shares a texture with the Restless Fire camouflage (<name>camo_EU_special_tile</name>) and the Halloween 2016 camouflage (<name>camo_halloween_2016_tile</name>). I guess it was a wise decision that I didn't choose Pepega_420_LOL_Shipkiller as my username then :D

    [12.6] Unique Camouflage Plus

That is strange... I would first make sure that you are editing the right camouflage and colour scheme, as there are actually three "American Arc" camos in the XML file: Camouflage named camo_AmericanArc2020_01, using colorScheme_AmericanArc2020_01 – this, I believe, is the white base for the Golden Eagle permacamos. Camouflage named camo_American_Arc_tile, using colorSchemeUSNP11 - this is the Stars'n'Stripes consumable camouflage that you want to change. Camouflage named camo_American_Arc, using colorSchemeUSNP11 as well – these are Go Navy! permanent camouflages for US Navy cruisers. Next, make sure that you don't have a typo in the colour values for the scheme. Also, see if the game loads the camouflage and colour scheme correctly. Change all colours in the colour scheme to red (1.000 0.000 0.000 1.000). Does the ship turn red now? If it doesn't, the game isn't using the right colour scheme and you need to find out why. Is there a typo in the name? Finally, check if you have two colour schemes with the same name. In my experience, the game only loads the first colour scheme of a name and ignores any other schemes with the same name. Best practice is to have only one colour scheme of each name in the file.

    [12.6] Unique Camouflage Plus

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. You're using colorSchemeITAP07, but which texture file are you using, which of the two colours in the colour scheme do you expect to see, and which colour do you get instead? The third picture has different weather compared to the first two, which could explain the grey looking slightly different – note that the mountain in the background also has a different hue of grey due to the different lighting. First thing is to use high resolution textures. If text is involved, I always use the full resolution of the model texture. In other words, if the ..._a.dds file of the model has 4096x4096 pixels, I use that for my camouflage texture as well. Camouflage patterns often can be saved with lower resolutions, but text with sharp contours requires high resolution. The second thing is to keep in mind that DDS files normally are compressed so that the compression is not noticeable if the file is viewed with its original colours. If you have green text on red, for example, the border between these colours can be rendered with bigger brown blocks because the human eye at 100% scale will not notice the difference. But what we are doing with the camouflages.xml is changing the colours and turning the red to grey and the green to white, and now the human eye can see the difference. The solution to this is to either switch off compression (but then you get gigantic files) or to use colours in the texture that are compressed with clean borders, for example replacing green on red by green on black.

    [12.6] Unique Camouflage Plus

Download Update 0.10.9 I have been a busy bee... The Type 1/2/5 camouflages for the German battlecruisers at tier IV-X have been added: The concept for the Type 5 Special camouflages from tier VI upwards is a progression from classic grey schemes to patterns that concentrate on covering the superstructure (which is inspired by the camouflage for Graf Spee). With a face as recognisable as Zieten’s, making it harder to identify seems like a good idea to annoy the enemy reconnaissance: Apparently, the ship camouflages are now also applied to the aircraft of Soviet carriers at tiers VI and VIII. I have tuned the Type 1/2/5 camouflages of those ships to also cover the aircraft in a nice way. If other carriers get the same treatment at some point, I'll eventually do the same for those ships. Two more camouflages, Dragon Boat and World of Warships: The Beautiful Game, get a realistic replacement: The 6 Years of World of Warships permanent camouflages get changed into nice and simple two-tone black and dark green. And now I need a break. To install, copy the folder res_mods from the mod download. Open the folder World_of_Warships/bin in the World of Warships installation on your computer. Inside, you will find one or more folders with numbers as names. Open the folder with the highest number and paste the folder res_mods into it. There are always new camos coming :) A camouflage mod is never finished... For the next update, at least the "German fleet" camos for Prinz Heinrich and Zieten look like they will need to be modded, and I'll have to keep an eye on the "King of the Sea XIII" camouflages and how/if they will be made available. https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/198 It is a lot of work to update a camouflage mod, indeed. That's why I always do it when the game update is released, so that the result can be enjoyed for the maximum amount of time.

You can check what the camouflages look like with your settings by using the button "show in port" in the Armory. I have all decorative camouflages disabled as well, and for example the Forward Bound camouflages for the soviet carriers are displayed as the regular permanent camouflages when I click on "show in port". The 6th Anniversary camouflages are not changed by my settings, however, so I think the game considers them regular camouflages like the Victorian Era camos (which is why I will include them in my mod for the next update).
