Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?
Migantium_Mashum replied to 66Schwifty's topic in General Discussion
Unless you have more than one fire health repair gives you it all back. There is a flag associated with health repair that adds 20% to the amount of repair. There is a captain skill that negates a total flame out. There are also flags that reduce the time limit for fire and flooding. I think that @That_Other_Nid is perhaps talking about that... do you need a replay for what is apparent? Why do you think WG gives you fireproof? (Receive more damage by fire than your original health pool and survive.) -
Okay, so we get the MIKASA for 24 hours. Just took mine out for a spin... In my opinion she is about as exciting as watching paint dry...

So it is all the fault of the DD then? You talk out of your posterior sir... I've been in many games as an all spotting all illuminating DD and still see the border hugging, Island Camping profanities doing nothing but hide or run... How about being in my Kagero facing an enemy Cruiser with 20,000 hp left and a FDG on 8,000 hp left and a full HP Gneisenhau and Tirptiz turn tail and run... You talk a load of phooey. -

@Pappus Let me get this straight... You get to Jutland and don't know what the Yeuyang is? You get to Jutland and don't know Pan Asia torpedoes don't kill DD's? Sorry that just does not make sense and I don't believe you're a Tier 10 player of DD's. And DD's don't have gimmicks.. they have their own unique modules, upgrades and weapons. Decent DD players don't worry about other DD's so much as Cruisers with radar... if you don't know enemy DD concealment ranges as the player of a Tier 10 DD then in my opinion you just don't know DD. Again you've either sleepwalked your way through them or you don't play them at all... If I was in a game with a Jutland player and that player asked me the questions you have mentioned above... I would not be hanging around that player whatsoever because they would be a massive liability... -
Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?

Because they know if I am there they are in trouble.... MASHUM like BB. But, on a more serious note: Welcome back to the game. Many, not all BB players, do not understand tactics. The BB is the meatwall for the other ships and is also to a degree the deterrent. You could argue HE spam fire but I would say bad team coordination bad positioning... However being slow and cumbersome a BB perhaps has to rely more on the team performance than their own ability... if the ally DD's will not spot the enemy DD's will... But, there is no excuse for border hugging or sitting behind islands just in case a shell scratches your paint.. and in fact as a DD main I have seen games that should be won lost, lost quickly, when BB's bottle it.. For me @ColonelPete and @Jethro_Grey also sum it up very nicely... -
Just wondering if anyone else is having ping problems? Usually I get 33-35 but tonight 300-1220 ping... ISP fine, rebooted the game and system twice and still the same... Two players last game also complaining about ping...

If I lose a torpedo tube I can still be useful spotting or capping and firing from smoke.. or chasing down a BB from the rear who only has forward facing guns.... Endless possibilities. If I lose my turrets I have secondaries and a sharp bow... it's never over until the fat lady sings. I can't... how about a 1v1 ram? Or secondary fire support? I am afraid old friend I have to disagree with you... sorry.

I remember in my Jean Bart, pre 8.0, I was hit early in the game by a Yamato and found both turrets destroyed.. Now, you may think that it is game over... I simply came into a fight in reverse and using my secondaries with manual fire control managed to sink a DD and low HP Cruiser before I rammed the Yamato that nailed my turrets.... he did not die but had almost no HP left and was killed within seconds... You can be as useful even without turrets... @DFens_666 I don't think the risk of main armament destruction should be removed.. imagine the satisfaction of being the guy who crippled the main armament of a BB...

DD Tactics for first 5 minuets
Migantium_Mashum replied to HappyCabbage's topic in General Discussion
I am a DD main and the question does not have a specific answer.. different games require different strategies. My first advice is practice in COOP and stay there until you know your fire angles. 1. A game with a CV... always look at the mini map to watch for enemy aircraft. If they are coming your way, straight off with your AA, try not to be detected.. Everything else goes of of the window. Your priority is survival at any cost. Try as best as you can to get back to your AA heavy consorts. Cap and kill takes longer but you can outsmart your opponent... I do frequently. 2. Radar heavy games... you can have a normal game IF you are aware of enemy radar.. Spot them press F3 and hope your bigger consorts understand you want radar dead as a priority.. It is an absolute priority to KNOW the radar ranges of your opponents.. you can usually spot them before they can detect you. Have your escape route ready just in case you make an error and run watching your stern so you can jig as they fire.. Never use guns against radar equipped ships because it often means you're too close.. Be aware that when they get the detected icon and see no major opponents they will most likely hit their radar.. you're spotted you're dead your fault. 3. Use your concealment to its maximum and do not be afraid to run. Never take on an opponent or a situation that you are NOT confident you can master. regardless of what your team ask.. they are NOT playing your DD you are. If you die early you have failed.. unless the CV gets a lucky hit there is no reason why you need to die.. DD stupidity is the biggest killer. 4. Don't fire torpedoes at extreme range.. likely as not you will miss and a smart ship, your enemy, can determine your position from the track of your torpedoes ( I know I can). Best fire between 6km and 8km.. I sometimes take my Shimakaze out with 6.4km torpedoes @ 86 knots... nothing escapes. 5. CE (Concealment expert) is an absolute must... the better you can hide the easier you can kill. A Level 10 captain is vital. 6. Be aware some BB's can laugh off 10 torpedo hits.. you are not guaranteed a kill. Never over commit, once fired get the hell out. 7. Be the eyes of your team.. if you can get behind your enemy team and keep them all perma spotted that is sometimes better than having the highest damage tally or best kill ratio. A visible team is a dead team.. You are the only ship that can sneak past to expose your enemy and so long as you always watch the mini map they can never find you.. 8. It doesn't matter what tier you are as a tier 8 DD is just as lethal as a Tier 10... Last night my Kagero sank a Gearing and Khaba with torpedoes ( The Torpedo reload booster certainly took Khaba by surprise). 9. Smoke is not always the best choice if TRB is available... ( I did ask WG for it on the Shimakaze but they replied it would be unfair) 10. Do not enter a cap until you're sure it is safe to do so... do not spam fire torpedoes into gaps you 'think' the enemy will use because you waste your valuable salvo for nothing. 11. Do not be tempted to focus on your torpedoes after you fire them as you may miss an opponent who is stalking you. You WILL die almost 100% of the time... 12. Your guns are a last resort or If the your target is already spotted and you can fire safely, or if there is so little HP on your enemy as to make no difference. Safely means not firing against radar equipped ships unless they are the last opponent and your team has + numbers. 13. If you're going to fire from smoke or hide in it then expect enemy torpedoes to disrupt you. Believe me when I tell you that it is fatal.. 14. Don't waste your boost.. in fact never use it unless you need to escape and never boost on a 180 degree turn as it actually slows you down... 15. Be aware that some DD's have more guns aft than forward.. so you can be just as lethal running away as going forwards. 16. There are BB's that you can kill by just sitting on their stern.. Jean Bart for example has no rear facing main guns and her secondaries don't go much beyond 10km.. sitting on their tail and matching their turn and speed you can kill easily without hurry... (My absolute favourite way to dispatch JB) many a time I have had the enemy in all chat ask me for a break... some can be real funny asking for burns specialists... Just a few things that I have learned over the years.. I learned the hard way.. I am sure there are a million other snippets of advice from other equally skilled DD players in this forum and likely as not there are tactics that even I don't know.. -
Still an absolute nightmare... 800 average ping.. and getting into the forum seems to take forever....

Having the same problems mate.... punishment for Brexit perhaps?..lol I am also having very heavy lag through this forum too...

You're not doing anything wrong, you're certainly not doing what many here have not already done.. I applaud you for turning to members of the forum for advice... Can I suggest that you have some practice time in COOP... practice angles of attack, fire points to get citadels, your own positioning, best firing distances... with the changes to AI, COOP is now more of a challenge than ever before. I did that as a DD main after a very poor start to the game, and I mean absolutely dire, so taking advice I went back to basics in COOP, I learned my fire angles for torpedoes and fire angles for my guns... I learned to vary my attack strategies and as I applied this to my random battles my successes mounted and I am now quite a lethal opponent...

Remove Colbert and Smolensk From the Game
Migantium_Mashum replied to VeidraVontae's topic in General Discussion
I think the original part of the conversation referred to the Smolensk in smoke... inside or even outside of smoke Smolensk has the advantage because most BB's have around a 30 second reload for main guns... 30 seconds is a long time and gets you at least 2 return salvos from Smolensk.. (Cannot remember the Smolensk reload time for main guns so it could be higher) then add some pretty decent torpedoes... Certain BB's are also weak from the stern so imagine a Smolensk on your tail in a Jean Bart and Smolensk matches every turn you make... you're dead. If I can do it in a Gearing a Smolensk can do it faster and better... So , I would say not so easy... -

Migantium_Mashum replied to VeidraVontae's topic in General Discussion
Spot on, my point exactly... Learn your enemies capabilities and play accordingly.. -
Someone tell me I am imagining it but the maneuverability of all DD's has dropped considerably... Every DD I have now has had its maneuverability nerfed... why? And yes I have Rudder shift where available.... Kitakaze then: Kitakaze now:

Remove Colbert and Smolensk From the Game
Migantium_Mashum replied to VeidraVontae's topic in General Discussion
Don't pander to the whiners.. we shouldn't nerf the ship we should expect the players to learn how to counter or else this game becomes a boring game with no challenges.... I say that from experience... to improve as a DD player I had to learn... -
Remove Colbert and Smolensk From the Game
Migantium_Mashum replied to VeidraVontae's topic in General Discussion
I watched a Smolensk chew a FDG and then a JB from the rear... DD spotted so the Smolensk smokes up, FDG charges the smoke straight into the inferno of fire and torpedoes..FDG dead. Then about 6 minutes later the Smolensk latches on the rear of a JB following every turn it made just alternating HE and AP using only forward turrets... -
Remove Colbert and Smolensk From the Game
Migantium_Mashum replied to VeidraVontae's topic in General Discussion
You are absolutely spot on... So perhaps it is time to weed out such players... There is a certain level of skill to this game and if you cannot be bothered to learn you should stick to the Arcade games... -
Remove Colbert and Smolensk From the Game
Migantium_Mashum replied to VeidraVontae's topic in General Discussion
No. I don't mind facing Smolensk either as a DD or a BB... Take note of your enemies capabilities and play accordingly if you cannot do that I am happy to lose another player... goodbye. -
Can you answer a question for me? As I haven't got her myself... is she equipped with TRB?
-
I will give you something strange after being sunk.. In my Tirpitz yesterday I have a Japanese (German) Captain... I had been sunk at 11 minutes by a long range salvo from an AsashioB after a confrontation with a Smolensk... Yet from being sunk to the end of the game the Japanese (German) captain continued speaking... she just would not shut up... Never gave it any thought until I read this post.
