Super Container Loot Thread [ topics merged ]

15k Coal a couple of days ago and another one I can't even remember. -
You can spot friendly torps from the get go, there is no such thing as torp detection range for your teammates fishes. Problem is only their speed, or lack thereof, that means that unless you are very close to the DD/ship in front of you, it can change direction 4 times from the moment you launch them to the moment they reach them, making it near impossible to guess the outcome.

Italian Cruisers - One Month On (and a bit)

Sadly I wouldn't know. Hidden stats, see. -
Italian Cruisers - One Month On (and a bit)

You're kiting away and if you've had 2 shots at that DD (plus whatever your DD has contributed to the cause) believe me that enemy DD is sinking or getting the hell out of the cap because he knows the battle for it is lost. The smoke is not for the DD but for any BBs coming at the back anyway. -

You've answered yourself right there :) Follow your DD towards a cap using that concealment and if possible use an island to creep a bit more and if he spots for you a DD 10 or less km out, the poor thing is in for a world of pain. Then hit the magic smoke button and kite away, not forgetting to launch both sets of torps as you go. And Bob's your uncle. -
Can CVs be made unreportable? I am tired of being constantly chat banned
Taliesn replied to Pappus's topic in General Discussion
Well his activity in chat was as non-existant as his planes, so I guess no luck there. What is the unsporting behaviour report for? Cause I used it just in case. -

Hang on, I know that song! ...Row, row, row your boat, gently down the streaaaaaam... belts off, trousers down, isn't life a scream?! I've found Trento a treat, pun intended. My last match with her ended up with a Kraken and this pearl from the last victim: Amalfi sucks, big time (tier VIII MM probably not doing any favours) Brindisi is a very good ship with troll torps, and what it does to DDs is nasty. 7 victories out of 8 so far and 95k av. damage. -

Wot? No reports whatsoever? Like this Lexi right here who sailed to A10 without launching ANY planes until there were only two enemy ships left? -
Arguably there was another tier IX DD in the other team that met and sank the tier VII DD in your team, right? So working as intended. There are not enough players for the "perfect" MM with all ships from the same tier, and even if they were, it would still be not good enough for some people. including myself, if only because I want variety and a challenge.

Italian cruisers are intentionally that bad?
Taliesn replied to Fede15thPzDiv's topic in General Discussion
Quick update to say that: Monte is meh (but then, it's tier V) Trento is surprisingly good and I'm glad I bought the permacamo with the tokens Zara I haven't played yet (bought the permacamo as well) Amalfi remained sh$t and a chore until I sold her (as soon as I researched Brindisi) Early doors but Brindisi is shaping up to be the easiest and most enjoyable grind to a tier X I've yet encountered. -
Distribute rank 1 players equally! [Edited]
Taliesn replied to 2016Split's topic in General Discussion
Stick to chess then. Do you think a football team of better players will more often than not beat another team of lesser quality? Do you think a Messi in your team will always mean a victory for you irrespective of who else is playing in both teams? (answer is no, btw) The relative impact of every player in wows works the same way, moreso because here you change teams in every match, therefore over a big enough number of matches, the quality of every player reflects on their particular WR. You can probably look around this forum for your weekly thread on why my WR sucks and even if it were representative of anything, it is not my fault!, but honestly, we can safely assume that with 11k+ battles your WR is the one you deserve, for good or bad. -
Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
Taliesn replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
You will have to walk me through what this variation means. If it is a means of giving you (or anyone else) a higher chance of defeating a better opponent, then nope, absolutely no need for that. Some ships might be stronger than others, but the determining factor is and should always be the skill of the player behind them. You might as well ask for an I win button if you pretend to twist this to your advantage. -

I think this is called RNG and it already exist in game, thank you very much. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Taliesn replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Well, not today (it was either Thursday or Friday) but it is certainly an achievement to get your damage record of 283k, lose, and not manage to sink a single ship: Some 500 secondary hits also (shame I didn't save the report) -
There is nothing now preventing those who play passively and only farm damage from doing so, irrespective of rewards. Also, it is not as if the winning team's DD is generously throwing smokes for the cruiser behind you or the BB following closely behind to blap the radar cruiser and so on. More often than not it is just a couple better players or some rng that decides the battle rather than some fine coordination on one team and a bunch of damage farmers and potatos on the other. And that's basically the problem with your argument. Both of you are assuming the top three players on the losing team are doing something different from the top 3 or 6 on the winning team, which is clearly absurd. They are most likely doing the same thing, because the XP calculation is the same for both teams. They just happen to receive a smaller reward because teammates, rng, etc... So no, very little side effect from giving the modifier to the top 3 on the losing team, and I can't see the toxicity you describe at all in randoms, where most people just click next battle and do not care much about it (as evidenced by the general quality of the playerbase) Another thing entirely different is how XP calculation is done and make no mistake, we are on the same page there.
-
Which is not a bad thing now, is it? Hardly game breaking stuff to give them the 1.5 modifier and certainly fairer, since XP calculation is the same for all 22 players involved but the composition of the teams is not.
-
Eh???? Different issue altogether. You can give the XP modifier to the top 2-3 in losing side in those ranked battles as well, WITHOUT giving the star to the top one. All of this irrespective of the fact that in ranked, because it's 6 or 7 players per team the way WG distributes XP exacerbates an issue that is not that clear cut in randoms. Not sure why are you linking both anyway. Sure, XP could and should be distributed giving more value to spotting, capping or tanking for example, certainly reducing the value of damage in the calculation. But that calculation works for both teams, meaning that the winning side is also affected and awarded by damage done first and foremost. So as good or bad a calculation as it is, it is still a fair assumption that the top players on the losing side have done as well as those on the top half of the winning team. Usual caveat applies, I expect that to be true given enough battles. There will be some where you'll have 12 potatoes on the losing side and others where an OMNI division will be accompanied by the worst possible teammates.
-
I've seen worse ideas though. How XP is calculated is what it is. I think we can assume the top 3 in the losing team have done better than those below them at the very least. You also have players in the winning team that have contributed next to nothing to the victory that probably deserve even less that XP modifier.

Oi mate, nothing wrong with Lizzie!!! Amazed by the number of people who fail to grasp : The futility of drawing conclusions from very small sample sizes The inability to take a sincere look at your own contribution, in absolute and relative terms, to every battle.

Recently got a 30% one for my birthday, didn't use it. Kinda wishing I had.

Full steam ahead and not quite quick enough a dash for a sandwich?

Is there a ship that can push and actually tank HE?
Taliesn replied to Pappus's topic in General Discussion
Hyperbole much? Every shame tier BB and a fair few below can tank and push one single HE spammer. 2 HE spammers plus assorted BBs at the back and a DD doing the spotting and throwing some fish at a single yoloing target? Nope, and that's alright. -
The hidden potential of Semi Armor Piercing(SAP)
Taliesn replied to anonym_ziPQbxoJkOE7's topic in General Discussion
Amalfi is horrendous at tier VIII, and Monte is, well, a tier V cruiser. Can't really remember the others so I can't compare her. Early doors but I'm enjoying the Trento (in as much as you can enjoy any ship in this line) Reload is just a big letdown. -
1 LM Yamato. If you miss regularly with her you know it's not RNG. 2 Kremlin. 3 GK, for those rare occasions when a full secondaries build works. Don't really have a favourite tier 9 BB. Georgia is interesting, I hardly play Missouri or Musashi anymore.

Here's another one: "watch out Milan_G_ torping from your back" And so that this post is not considered an unhelpful and unconstructive one, I say no. This game doesn't need pandering to the potato torping from behind so that he feels justified.
