This is an idea I wanted as well. Once you dive below periscope depth, you are on your own. No more team spotting to help you out as you have NO connection to the rest of the team. Also there should be no torpedo launching capability ... basically diving under some specific depth should act like a DD smokescreen ... -

That's exactly the point. The diversity of gameplay is not a disadvantage as different gameplay types attract different players. Making all classes play very similarly makes the game boring. However WG have some weird problem with that as they are trying every class to fir the same mold just with different coat of paint ... I wanted to get good at the pre-rework CVs as they seemed to be different and interesting. I have no interest in the current iteration as it is a dumbed down version of surface ships. -

The problem here is, this is an action game. Submarine type of action is similar to what CVs were before the rework, a whole different kind of gameplay. And WG is trying to bend reality to make subs fit into the game while keeping them distinctly submarine :-) We know how that worked with CVs ... If you make submarines too "submarine like", they will not be popular. And at that point they can as well remove them ... I don't think the situation has a good solution ... -

but but but ... IJN DDs do not only have torpedoes ... they also have guns ... not that anybody met such a legendary IJN DD captain to use their guns ... (outside Kita/Aki/Haru of course). -

He pretty much sums up all the points why submarines cannot work in the game proper ... and why they never worked as main fleet combatants in the real world as well. The question is now if he's intelligent enough to realize that ... -
question is, are they enabled in the training room ? when subs were only in ranked and coop in previous patch, I had no depth charge option in randoms. if subs cannot be used in training rooms, I doubt depth charges will be available ... otherwise there would be ... you know ... proper player testing being done and that is not something WG wants ...

don't expect much here ... that would promote DCs to main armament as even secondaries don't display firing arcs and you have to guess ....

I was looking at PQs video about the Balao and I have realized a few things: 1. Torpedo homing is against a predicted position, not current position 2. Homing check interval is unknown (I doubt it is continuous) 3. Pings are freely available - you can ping from ANY position and towards any direction. So I gave it some thought (it DID hurt): 1. Torpedoes should only home towards the current position of the pinged ship 2. Torpedo homing should only update when a ping hits the target ship 3. Pings should only be available in a 60 degree arc in front of the sub I am still thinking about double pings, but I have no clear picture there, so no clue. The best so far I had was kinda priority sector mechanic, after double ping the damage ramps up to a max and then fades. Depending on when the torp hits damage is applied at the specified damage multiplier. This will make it much more challenging to use double pings to increase damage. Not a great idea I know ... Anyway, the above 3 changes should allow for some counterplay and easier evasion for target ships.

Pretty much this .... I'd take normal F3s and 12km (or the 13.5km PA) DW torps as the options. The Yamagiri is the only one that is remotely balanced with the new feature as it does not increase the damage, just enabled a different option to deal damage that still is however bound by normal limitations. The Austin showed already that overly aggressive reload boosting is not a good idea. The alternative options for the cruisers should be AP shells with better penetration but reduced damage so they can extend the range of ships they can citadel. Or increase pen angles with the special ammunition but having a longer reload or similar ... basically an option to be effective outside of normal situations that however presents same tradeoffs as usual so the defending ships have an option to mitigate. I think the only one that should keep the autoloader should be the RU DD but then only on HE so the ship can burst down DDs or quickly set fires ... I mean the concept is nice, but once again, the implementation is wrong and based on incorrect goals.... -

So ... 1. New water effects: nice waves, however the ships does NOT move at all in the demo, so where is the water interaction ? 2. Ranked Tier 10 only ? I don't care about the Superships, no objection there but if lower leagues will be T10 as well I'll pass again 3. Underwater world: You are spending too much resources on something targeted at 4% of the playerbase. How about new maps ? 4. Arms race: YAY finally. I think I'll spend most of my time there Basically it's the 3rd patch in a row that is reducing my interest in the game again ... -
I can only comment on the Yugumo and Kagero. I play both with TRB and when the MM smiles at you you get crazy good games. However in the opposite case you will do basically 0 damage. Anyway, after some consideration, their role will be taken over by submarines at some point in time as stealth is quickly becoming obsolete and gun power and sustain are what makes to new DDs good.

I was thinking about an alternative solution and I came up with this: Cavitation speed. Similar to what DDs have (the traditional ones) with crawling smoke, let the subs have non-cavitating speed up to 1/4 or so (maybe 1/2) where proximity detection stays as is now. Above that speed, they are picked up in the usual proximity detection no matter the depth. You know, the "Silent running" mode so they can sneak away undetected. Launching torpedoes makes them cavitate for 20 seconds regardless of the speed ... similar to firing main guns for surface ships ....- 47 replies
