    The speed telegraph sounds differently when in binocular view (louder I think). That's one observation I was able to confirm.
  4. Engine limitation or not, it is unfair to ships with multiple gun caliber options. There are several of those in the game, with the Z-23 being the most obvious in this case as it is a smoke generator capable ship. Still the numbers for smoke detection after firing make NO sense what so ever. Yes it can be argued there is some semblance of logic behind it, but that's just about it. There are several disconnected mechanics piled up.
  5. That's funny ... why is the smoke detection while NOT firing still 2km for all ships ? It should be different as well based on what you are saying ... One detection number is based on ship size, another on ship size and gun caliber, the third one is based on nothing at all (Yamato is the same as Kamikaze in that regards). And it should make up a system that makes sense ? Also why is 128mm Z-23 same as 150mm Z-23 ? They have the same base detection but different gun caliber. No sense what so ever.
  6. The numbers make no sense what so ever. WG just introduced another arbitrary variable that they can change to nerf specific ships. But that was obvious from the start.

    WG can you please STOP changing my port every time you introduce a new one ? It is MY port setting so please don't touch. You can happily use that red icon marker to highlight there's a new port available, but please do NOT change player settings unless they are invalid. EDIT: After playing some games yesterday, I have the distinct impression that the client performance is worse. Feels like driving through jelly ...

    I did not say generic RU gunboat captains don't work, but Leningrad as a ship works best with a CE captain (which is mostly only viable for Ognevoi and Grozo).

    Hmm .... Leningrad as a typical RU gunboat is a mediocre ship. Leningrad as a full stealth torpedo/gun hybrid is an excellent ship. So no, it does not work that well for the usual type of RU DD captain.

    Highlighted what you got wrong. Smoke becomes a huge factor if used correctly in team play. That means several players working together in a coordinated fashion. As a simple example I'll use one of my random battle games. Tears of the Desert, domination mode, C cap south spawn. Me (Uraloi), Shima, Yamato and Zao went for C cap. The opposition was 2 DDs, a New Orleans and several battleships (Kurfurst + 2 others I think). It went like this: I deployed smoke to conceal the Yamato, Shima was spotting and I was doing torpedo sentry around the smoke and drew fire onto myself from the enemy ships. Our Zao I did not observe. Outcome: enemy DDs dead or driven away. New Orleans dead, Kurfurst burned to death, rest dead or driven away. We took the cap and held it until the rest of our team took A and made their way up north to join us. Net result: We got several insults about smoke cancer in chat from the enemy team. If it was not a rather coordinated play between 3 ships (Udaloi, Yamato, Shimakaze) we'd have lost the cap and been sunk mostly as we were facing superior opposition. Smoke worked as a force multiplier in our favor. This kind of gameplay will still be available even with the new mechanics, just I will have a harder time as I need to go back and forth between the Yamato (he needs to be further away from enemy) and my friendly Shima as I am kinda protecting BOTH ships (one with smoke the other one with guns). The only one suffering will be RN CAs and idiots who use defensive smoke to fire close to the enemy. Nothing will change for the competitive scene, as they are well coordinated and can adapt to the new change with better utilisation of island cover and crossfire. All in all, an unneeded change that screws up uncoordinated random battles, rest is largely unaffected.

    Pretty much this. And it offers a simple solution to the smoke "problem". If you rely on auxiliary target data, your accuracy should DROP (dispersion, sigma etc...)!!! Unless you have a smoke generator/plane/hydro/radar yourself. That would mean several things: 1. Smoke generator equipped ships suffer the least from the accuracy hit. A Kagero with torp reload booster (without smoke) suffers the full penalty for it's gun caliber while the same Kagero with a smoke generator does not. 2. Radar and Hydro spotted targets can be shot without penalty. 3. All BBs shooting in smoke (with exception of point 2 above) are unable to hit anything at long range reliably and suffer in medium range considerably. 4. Cruisers and DDs suffer as well, basically the penalty scales by gun caliber (as does the smoke bloom in 6.12). 5. Own spotting aircraft from smoke lessens the penalty There you have it. A simple, effective and FAIR smoke system. Why is WG unable to implement it ? A BB can still smoke and drop from vision to heal, can defend itself close/medium range or with plane/hydro/radar active. However using the smoke offensively becomes a problem, it is better to use islands for that purpose. DDs and smoke equipped cruisers suffer the least penalty while still having to account for some disadvantage while using smoke.

    The only problem I have with Radar/Hydro is that they see through landmass. The MM is a valid point, I have often been on the wrong side with that. But MM has other issues regarding DDs as well. F.e. the concealment is not taken into account at all. I was in a few games with all RU DDs on my side (Tash, Tash, Khaba) and IJN/US DDs on the other side, or I was the only DD in my team (Udaloi) and there were 2 IJN DDs on the other side. I don't need to tell you how those games went. One possible change for IJN DDs would be to allow them to fire partially loaded launchers or give them the single torpedo option from RN ships. The new smoke changes seem weird. On one hand they are terribly unfair to RU DDs while allowing to fire on ships without having a spotting team mate outside the smoke.

    I do agree with most of the points, but the map design one ... f.e. on Shatter when approaching A from the south, you can part yourself in an outcrop of the big island and start capturing. If you are detected, you simply reverse behind the island. You are in no danger there. The northern island does not offer this at all, you HAVE to enter the cap on the northern side to start capturing. Capturing the C cap on Shards the way you present it is suicide, you have to duck behind the eastern (right hand from bottom) island :-) You seem to have and old version of the Shatter map, I have never seen it like that. There's a huge island in C cutting the base into 2 seperate halves basically. Also A looks different to what I remember.

    Don't know if trolling or you just mixed those 2 :-) Damage control party is the Fire extinguisher icon, on normal ships it is unlimeted. Damage repair party is the Ship with +++ icno, limites charges. Gangut has BOTH of the limited, but the DC has a very short cooldown.

    Just a question, not really sure I remember correctly: When I got sunk in a battle, exited to port and quit the client, in past patches I got a notification of the results and the overview screen when I logged back in. The detailed stats were not available. In current update, this is no longer the case, so I really have no clue how such a battle ended. Why was this changed ? I also noticed that some notifications that were done upon login (premium time change, doubloon change when I bought new ones on the web) are no longer displayed.

    OMG, so I was right, they reintroduced stealth firing. I don't need people to spot that nasty BB/CA that made me smoke up in my DD because they popped out from behind an island. I can happily shoot and torp them from my smoke without anybody else providing vision ... EXCELENT JOB WG !!!

    Well ... I am from Slovakia, but I always read the English version of the website because I expect it has the best update rate ... So I'd suggest English first, French and German close second and you have most of the market covered. Then you can do the rest ... :-)

    Well if I find 2 announcements on the main website then I expect to find the results there as well ... On the surface it is impossible to distinguish from the WG run one and community run ones. WG's doing a disservice to both itself and the community with their lack of attention to detail.

    Just a hypothetical: Imagine a Gearing vs Khaba in the same smoke. Both are searching for each other, or rather Khaba has shot at targets outside the smoke and killed them, his detection is still 4.1km. Now the Gearing arrives, spots him at 4.1km and starts shooting. Gearing has a 1.3km stealthfire buffer where the Khaba can do nothing about it. So basically WG is reinstroducing stealthfiring when smoke is involved. Generally the smoke screens are quite small, but I have encountered scenarios where while hunting a smoked up DD based on assured detection, I was well inside his smoke when I detected him.

    Clan Battles

    This is not PTS 0.6.12 specific. When I create a division on Live, my current selected ship is always set Ready. Don't know if non-clan divisions suffer that as well.
