Ironically: Shame, I was planning to bully him with my superior firepower. Now who's winning a car?

I actually have two Theas - one in a Graf Spee/Scharnhorst config, the other in general DD config. The Graf/Scharn one is the one I got when I originally bought HSF Graf Spee back in summer, the DD one is obviously the one I got from the HSF commander pack. I feel like mentioning two points about this: 1) I have three 19-point commanders, so I'm generating Elite Commander XP with regularity. It's pretty easy for me to get a commander from Level 0 to Level 10. 2) In spite of this, I was running low on ECXP when I bought Loyang a couple months ago and her commander is still only on 9 points. Hasn't stopped me from winning games in that OP ship. (FYI, I did skip from level 1 to level 6, but everything from then on has been grind)

My highest-tier KM DD is T-52 (or whatever the T5 is called). She's about 14kXP away from unlocking Ernst Gaede. Useful advice *noted*. Could this be applied to the other ships in the line, too? Even the ones with 127mm guns? Overall, seems kinda weak, apart from quick torpedoes (65knt) and the combo of health and stealth. Ironic that you think the AA is 'useless' when she's sold as having good AA. Already have a 10-pointer! And she's a she. Do you think she works well as a torpedo boat?

I want a premium DD for captain training my KM DD Kaptain, would people here say that Z-36 is a good choice or a bad one? I'm not going to bother waiting for T-61, at this point I think WG have decided to never release her. I'm not too bothered about gunboat play - I've finished the grind for Shimakaze, so I could be considered an experienced torpedo potato - and those torpedoes seem decent, even if they have shorter range than Mahan or Akatsuki. So, what would people say to me: buy or no buy?

  6. I thought you did, too. Well the others all have good suggestions if you want general anime. Ship/shipgirl anime are a bit difficult to come by, there's only really three I can think of: Arpeggio of Blue Steel, which I've never seen, so someone else will have to sell to you. (The ARP ships and captains are from this one) Highschool Fleet, about cute schoolgirls who go to a school dedicated to teaching students how to sail WW2-era warships. (HSF ships and captains are from this one) Kantai Collection, about girls personifying ships... I can't sell the anime to you. My (well-documented) opinion is that the anime was crap. Play the game if you want, but I wouldn't recommend the gameplay either. I mostly just enjoy seeing new shipgirl designs and swimming in a sea of fanart big enough to rival the Touhou fandom. FYI my current avatar is Asashio from KanColle, looking derpy, just like Asashio in WoWS. The other shipgirl media property we talk about, Azur Lane, doesn't have an anime at the time of writing this.
  7. As @El2aZeR said, she's a fanmade character. I just felt like showing that someone else had the same idea. I did for a while, too, but then I realised that KC Iowa works perfectly in context: Similar to how Yamato is the ultimate in Japanese Battleship designs, Iowa is the pinnacle of US Battleship designs. Similar to how Yamato is represented as the ideal of Japanese beauty (the Yamato Nadeshiko trope), Iowa is the ideal of American beauty (Blonde hair, blue eyes, big boobs, fun-loving party gal). So nowadays, I prefer KC Iowa over Pacific Iowa. I had an idea for Nelson's marriage line, where she agrees she loves you too, but states that for both of you, Queen (King, if you want to be historically accurate) and Country must come first. I also had a fanfic idea for Warspite before she was added to the game (she's shown as a grizzled old war vet in this idea) and in her marriage line declares that she can no longer have children but (it's implied) your Admiral character still declares his love for her regardless, causing her to break down. Are these sad enough for you? You mean "Coincidence".

Okay, but then the free option also has a 10% chance for getting a car.
  9. What about Commander Enerst E. Evans on board USS Johnson? Burning, wounded, naked, still kept on fighting until he went down with his ship. He told his men they all kicked [edited]and he was proud to be their captain as he made sure everyone got off safely. Nope, definitely Sammy B. Both Wikipedia and TVTropes confirm it. There was already a policy to do so, but the brothers demanded to be assigned together so it was ignored. The policy put in place by the government after the Sullivan brothers tragedy was to ensure that those who had already lost a family member as a result of war would be excluded from the draft, the "Sole Survivor Policy".

Which would you rather have: A 5% chance of getting £100, without having to pay anything? Or: A 0% chance of getting £100, for the low, low sum of £40? Make your decision.
  11. Ugh, another large loss of life caused by strict adherance to wartime conditions... Truly a shame.
  12. I wish my Atlanta was a good as yours: I hope that Azur Lane Atlanta shouts "DAKKADAKKADAKKA" at some point. Failing that, let's hope KanColle Atlanta shouts it instead.

    Asashio and Teamplay

This has already gone too far off-topic, but let me clarify this as clear as I can muster: The Pre-War Japanese naval designers and shipbuilders did NOT know that Aircraft Carriers would win the war. What they did know was that Aircraft Carriers do not garner a lot of propaganda and that Battleships, the ships they believed would win any future conflicts, would garner a lot of propaganda if they were BIG and POWERFUL. Thus they built really, reeeeaaaalllllly effing big Battleships! On topic: There's nothing more I can say about Asashio that hasn't already been said (both by me and other commentors).

    Asashio and Teamplay

With hindsight, we all know today that it was Aircraft Carriers that won the war. In 193X (whenever the Yamamto-class were built, IDR) they believed that giant battleships were the be-all-end-all ultimate symbol of naval power, thus if you could build the biggest battleship afloat that would be a huge propaganda boost to morale. They built them BECAUSE it would make good propaganda! Most carriers at the time weren't even taken into serious consideration for naval combat, thus it made more sense to the people of the time to build a massive, expensive floating hunk of steel with huge guns than to build something comparitively smaller with smaller flying metal thingies with much less direct application of force. Carriers weren't built BECUASE they wouldn't make good propaganda!

    Wooden Horse on USS Helena

Nice spot! I wonder why that's there?

    Asashio and Teamplay

Did you forget how the matchmaker works? 12 ships per team. Soft cap of 5 of one ship class per team. Hard cap of 1 Carrier at T6+. This means that in a situation of 1BB, there MUST be 5/6 DDs or CL/As and/or 1CV. Now remember that we've recently gained mirrored matchmaking, meaning that a T8 IJN DD will be countermatched by a T8 IJN DD. Also remember that Asashio has terrible AA defences. All of which a Kagerou can also do, and arguably can do better because of the potential to torpedo enemy DDs and CL/As. Not forgetting that a CV will ALWAYS be better than a DD at spotting, unless he gets deplaned. And if the CV spots Asashio there's not an effing thing said Asashio can do about it! Sure, you can say the same thing about Kagerou, but at least she can still torpedo DDs and CL/As! Hindsight is a wonderful thing, no? Pretty much everyone in the world at the time thought Battleships were the ultimate in naval warfare. Only the US really realised how much more important it was to build carriers, and even then it took them until late in the war to do so. Giant battleships were built as a statement of naval supremacy, and that is a simple fact. One of the main reasons Japan went to war with the States was to try and remove the embargo on their fuel imports, which were imposed on them due to their brutality in taking over mainland Asia. For that they devised a plan of Large Battleship Fleets meeting and exchanging fire, which would then mean the bigger and more powerful ships with the bigger and more powerful guns installed on them would win.

    UK Tech Tree Proposal

@Pagster123 I noticed you included a number of premiums already in the game, but for some reason you missed out a few... Namely all the ones that aren't Battleships... Also, with Nelson already in the game as a FreeXP premium, why would WG add her sister ship Rodney to the non-premium tech tree?

    Asashio and Teamplay

...Except that if an Asashio is screwed by a bad team after she has already sunk all the enemy BBs she basically can't do anything other than spot or smoke. Harekaze? Kill DDs and CA/Ls! Kagerou? Kill DDs and CA/Ls! Benson? Kill DDs and CA/Ls! Loyang? Kill DDs and CA/Ls! Z-23? Kill DDs and CA/Ls! Kidd? Kill DDs and CA/Ls! Literally any other DD I can't be bothered to type out? Kill DDs and CA/Ls! Did you forget that all other destroyers at the same tier can still hit destroyers and cruisers with their torpedoes? (Apart from Pan-Asian, but they've at least got the gunpower to kill DDs) How are you still so stubborn that you can't see this?

Firstly, you mean 'MAXimum potential'. EDIT: I dun goofed and got confused myself! We're going slightly off topic: According to more posts under the same subject, the definition you use is NOT the original/correct definition. It is the League of Legends definition. Because LoL is as popular as it is the LoL definition has become considered the 'normal' definition, when it actually isn't and games that existed long before it still use the Original definition. Low skill floor=Unfavourable circumstances/low player skill means ship has no real use in battle. High skill floor=Unfavourable circumstances/low player skill means ship still has some utility in battle. Low skill ceiling=Favourable circumstances/high player skill means ship performs no better than a set maximum. High skil ceiling=Favourable circumstances/high player skill means ship will never reach its' 'true' maximum utility.

    Asashio and Teamplay

According to this reddit thread (yes, I'm aware it's an Overwatch reddit thread, please bare with me): Skill floor is how bad you can be. Skill ceiling is how good you can be. The skill floor for Asashio is low because if you get bad MM (something like 5DD, 5CA/CL, 1BB and 1CV) there is effectively nothing you can ever really hope to achieve in Asashio. The skill ceiling is low for Asashio because it doesn't matter how good you are at the DD playstyle, you will never be as good as another destroyer that actually fits the playstyle better. Sure, you can torpedo all five of the enemy BBs, but what do you do then? What if all of your BBs die simultaneously to you torping all of the enemy BBs? All that's left is DDs and Cruisers (and CVs) - and you cannot hope to win against any of them. Yamato was a propaganda stunt. She was basically shouting out to the world "HEY! We've built the biggest battleship ever in only 100years of modernisation! WE! ARE! THE! BEST!" They even kept Yamato's gun calibre a secret until long after the war - the allies belived she was equipped with 16" guns - because they feared they could be accused of warcrimes for developing a gun so devastatingly powerful.
  21. In a random battle just a moment ago I spotted a super test Monaghan. 20180505_011659_PGSD105-T-22_46_Estuary.wowsreplay I was surprised as I wasn't aware we were even getting a USN T6 premium! I was also hoping (because my knowledge of ships is fairly limited) that this would turn out to be a RN DD, but oh well. According to the wiki, it looks like WG are testing out giving her the 9.2km fishies of her higher-tier cousins, and judging by what I saw in the battle, those were the ones Mr Supertester was using. *EDIT* Actually, thinking about it again, I'm not so certain those were the 9.2km fishies. He was always a little bit closer to the targets than I thought at first... Peoples thoughts? And feel free to laugh at my gameplay and my lucky dev strike on the enemy podvoisky at the start.

    "High School Fleet"

As much as I do like to see fellow anime fans, I have to comment, are you sure you're ready for a T8 ship? You still have a fair grind through T6 and T7 before you get to the 'big leagues'.

At least thrice I went up against Asashios that had the same surface detection range as my Akizuki. My Akizuki captain is level19 and she has a surface detection range of 5.9km.

    Asashio and Teamplay

@KarmaQU_EU You'll never read this, but honestly I'm a little disappointed in you. You come up with so many things, showing how much passion you have for the game but when the going gets tough you decide to jump ship? I guess your passion doesn't mean anything and Asashio and indeed all of WoWS was just a passing fancy... Unfortunately, those of us here with negative opinions of Asashio cannot see her as anything but a Kagerou with gimmick torpedoes, and that is anything but 'unique' and 'varied' gameplay. In fact the 'gimmick' of Asashio is so egregious that it completely undermines the gameplay of Japanese Destroyers and Destroyers in general. And also, completely contrary to what you seem to have gleamed from this thread, we are not against unique and interesting ships being added to the game, certainly I for one would love to see what WG actually do come up with regarding Ise and Tone - I would also love to be the proud owner of a Kitakami, even if WG forbode me from taking her into anything but Co-Op or Scenarios. The problem lies in the game design itself, and we (being realists) wonder how WG would manage to fit truly unique and interesting concepts into the current formula without total overhaul. But, nevertheless, you will never read this, and so I might as well be writing this on a stone wall...
