New player experience and state of CVs
ForlornSailor replied to ReimuHakurei's topic in General Discussion
Yep, this is absolutly something to be worried about. New players basically experiance a totally different game. They start of in the wrong direction. Rushing ahead, guns blazing, outshooting the enemys - far from how the "real game" actually plays out. And if any of those new players care for his statistics - they will look pretty good. Because those bots are no opposition. Ive also done some random games on a new account recently and I think its fair to say - they are worse then oop bots. After those 200 games against bots, new players have to learn the game all over again, which is a hard and rocky road. Yea sure, I agree - 200 games is not that much. But seperating new players from the "real world of randoms" creates problems in itself (see above). So there is a fine line between protecting new players and actually harming them by presenting them a gameplay, that isnt anywhere close to reality. For me it all boils down to this: I wouldnt want to be a new player in 2020. Doesnt matter from which direction I look at it. And thats something, that should WG get worried. -
New player experience and state of CVs
ForlornSailor replied to ReimuHakurei's topic in General Discussion
Erm, not going to tell you what you should feel but couple of things: - new players have protected matchmaking for 200 games. They are completly seperated from you, you will never see them when you play a T4 ship. As in absolutly impossible. - new players are found in T8/T9 premium ships and in T5+ ships. WG pushes everyone to move up ASAP and thus give up the protected matchmaking even before you reach 200 games. So how is it sealclubbing when I play against people with atleast 201 games in my T4 ship, when I have guys with 0 to 200 games around in T8+? Aint that sealclubbing either? Or even more so? And yes, Ive actually seen people with zero games overall on the entire account / all gammodes in premium ships in the high tier randoms ive played. As @illy said: this game has become all about directives. Grind fast and play only T8+ because thats what you need to do to get em done. Thats why all this "new player experiance" is kinda... a meh experiment (actually I dont want to judge the experianment, I want to critizise WGs way of handling new players & low tiers) since the problems arise from somewhere else. And players with an average account cant sealclub on low tiers, even when they have 10k+ battles on their account. Sure, they might overperfom on low tiers, but they atleast learn. Well, they used to learn. And let me point out something else: Yea sure because for the guys that dont care about anything else then actual clubbing, low tiers have become a paradise now. The decent players, doing the occasional low tier game, are gone. They would have wiped the floor or atleast given them a decent opposition. Now, that they are few and surrounded by bots, they can rack up nice numbers - which are worthless. Its not fun to play. But some players dont care about a fun gameplay experiance. If WG wants to go this way... ermm, yea. -

Or having an environment in low tiers, where even older players would say "yea, ill play a few games to have some diversity". But thats out of the windows aswell. -
Must be the weather. Yea, couldnt possibly be something with the game. Ill blame the weather. Or Trump.

Advice please, Ibuki but cruisers in general
ForlornSailor replied to Molly_Delaney's topic in Cruisers
- At about 1:20 you could have slowed down. Let your DD (the Z) get ahead a litte, so he will spot something first. Else you will be spotted before you see something (exactly that happened btw) - Turning into the island then guarentees, that you will not make it out of there, pretty much. You could/should have turned out earlier and use the outside on 1/2 line to kite the enemys. - Since you were cought at the island: dont reverse becuase you opened up a LoF for the enemys in the back - Also: dont switch target. Your Z on the outside did everything right. He smoked and hydroed the enemy DD. All firepower on the DD (and use HE). Once the DD one the 1 line would have been dead - there would have been nothing to spot you anymore. You could have reversed, turned, and made it out of there. Thats about the most important. You played rather like an US-Cruiser there, not like an IJN cruiser ^^. -
Yup been going on for quite a while. I really dont understand the thinking of WG, why they let this go on. Exactly. They have neither the experiance nor the captain skills to survive in such an environment. And the only thing new players learn, is, that CVs can do whatever they want. Again right on the money, its how I feel and how I see the game aswell. But apperently, we are wrong, because some spreadsheet somewhere must tell WG that everything is fine. I used to play the occasional low tier game, just because I like the ships and some diversity. But these games are utter chaos now, no fun, completly out of balance.

matchmaking afte years of WG updates
ForlornSailor replied to citaDELer's topic in General Discussion
That must be the reason why you have played Fujin a whooping 886 times aye. Or Ryujo 552 times. But now you complain about radar. lel. -
No, your poor stats dont come from a specific ship - they come from lacking experiance overall. You are underperforming in every ship. Stay away from T8, also stay away from T6. T6 BBs are actually not that easy to play. They are highly situational, depending on the matchmaker and the enemy ships you get. With those ships, if you want to do really well - you need a lot of knowledge about the armor scemes of ships from a range of T5 to T8. I would recommend you to play T4/T5 but with CVs and the matchmaker there beeing what it is - I have no idea on how to properaly learn the game as a new player at this point. You´d have to ask Wargaming. Go to youtube / twitch, look out for a streamer / uploader who doesnt annoy you and watch that for a couple of hundred hours. Imo the best way to learn something right now. I might sound cynical, but I wouldnt want to be in the shoes of a new player in 2020. Ive also stopped advertising the game to people I know for a long time, since the first 2000-3000 games will be pure frustration, unless you are really talented.

Autopilot your way across the map. works. I know people that do it to grind the directives in coop. They are doing it for years. Now I have two very hard points against you: - Implying, that everyone cares about winrate in the first place. - Explain, how in your suggested envioronment, where everyone will end up between 50,1 and 49,9% WR, Winrate matters? Your line of thought does not make sense at this point anymore. -

If you have skill based matchmaking and you balance the team by overall Winrate, that means, players with low winrates get better teammates, so that the team is equal with the other team right? And so you would get punished with bad teammates if you win a few games, because your winrate goes up. Its like you are running uphill and the steeper it goes - the more stones someone puts in your backpack untill you eventually fall over. And you could easily rig such an environment: Lets say I wanna play in the evening. Cool Ill just start the game in the morning and be afk almost afk for 2 dozens games (I can f.e. remote connect from work to my gaming PC and klick in a game every 15 min). Then im gonna go down with a shitty winrate (remember: we have skill based mm, teams are even, so 1 guy doing nothing will screw your winrate) like 25% and then enjoy super matchmaking in the evening when I actually play myself. Game will favour me with better teammates, because im brining 25 % WR to the table - somehow the overall winrate of both teams need to be even, right? And how shall this work out? Even right now, there are not enough players up to T5. They are introducsing bots in random games. And you want to split the playerbase even more by seperating them in leagues? You need to find a solution for that - before that, there is no sense in even discussing pro and contras about your idea. Nothing personal, just saying, the game cant sustain such a system. -
At this point - you might aswell go all the way. Then its not gambling anymore, since you know what you all get right.

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
ForlornSailor replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
Yea, thats what I mentioned im my post above: grinding T7 DDs is insanity. And it got worse over the years (if someone wants to say, that it was always like that). The T7 DDs with good concealment are enough to make the regular T7 DDs utter trash. You are not suppose to grind them. Pull out your credit card, get some free XP and move on. And thats the part where WGs greed fails, since we all can just walk away once we are pissed off enough. -

ForlornSailor replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
By all means - dont let me or anyone else stop you. Im just saying, that what you wish for might not be something you actually like. I might ofc be wrong aswell. Anyway. Then you still play more randoms then I do. Here is the problems, that I have and which I think, has an influence on the entire game: You can hardly play anything else then high tiers these days. Low tiers is ruined. Its the CVs and the stupi mm restrictions which creates totaly absurb games like 5x5 with 2 CVs 1 BB and 2 DDs. Even winning is not viable since you dont get damage, thus no XP and credits. And besides that, skill is multiplied to heavy in such an environment. Say a sealclubbing Hosho or a sealclubbing DD - theyll run the show alone. It drives people away from low tiers, doesnt matter if they grind or just want to play a low tier game to have some diversity (I used to be one of those). But where do you go to? You cant play T7 really unless you like to shoot yourself in the foot either. T7 DDs are cucked thanks to no concealment module. Cruisers are heavily effed since the IFHE rework. BBs have overmatchable plating. And T7 sees T9 all the time. Why would you want to play that to have fun? Its out of the question aswell. So you have to go T8+. And thats whats everyone is doing. The freshest of the fresh players aswell. And you cant blame them? There is simply no fun to be had below T8. I betcha they feel good doing 30k with a Tirpitz because the option is doing 5k with a Kaiser while beeing constantly bombed and torped from Hoshos and Kamikaze-alikes. Or driving around in a Helena while seeing the T9 counter part has faster realod, more health, more pentration (on same caiber guns) and heal. Like come on. WG has creates such hostile environments below T8, that new players and veterans alike will stay away from it. So now you have the high tiers, where everyone is gathering. People that have no idea how to play the basics and the hard core veterans. People with 10k games in all T10s and players, that used their credit card to grab any T9 at sale. So are we really wondering, why there are roflstomps? When half of your team has not understood the concept of concealment and the get proxy spotted in their Asashio from a BB and killed? I understand you want to prevent roflstomps from happening. I do aswell. But the basis isnt there. The current playerbase simply is too bad, there is the underlying problem. -
Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
ForlornSailor replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
Well, if the matchmaker will be rigged the way some people want it - you would be among the first to rage & quit the game. Since you would have the bad players constantly on your side, while fighting >50% ppl each and every battle, thus losing way more games when winning for a long period. Might it be, that it has something to do with: - WG ruining clanwars - WG ruining clanwars again - WG ruining operations - Summer is finally here - WG introdicing stupid SAP - WG introducing the teamkiller no1 back in the game - WG introducing subs - CV rework - WG ruining operations again - WG ruining low tiers - WG ruining mid tiers - WG ruining AA - WG introducing BBs with SAP I think I missed some things. -
Yup, Id also think its a fragmented Disk. WoWs has problems with that due to huge file sizes. I run a defrag every 6 months and it actually help with the speed of installing. But yea, this only counts when you are using a traditional HDD. SSDs dont need to be and shouldnt be defragmented. so @CptMinia and @Sir_Grzegorz you are both right now stop fightin ^^
-
This is a joke. Its disgusting. I just lost all trust in the XP tables in the game. Could all be artificially "balanced". WG, if you really want people to quit this game - you are doing a good job.
-
Here is an interesting thought tho: Why does it happen? Obviously, the more damage you deal, some mechanic lowers your XP. That cant come out of nowhere. Obviously, it went wrong. Possibly because the multiplier is set too high? What was the goal, the intention? Something like that doesnt "just happen". Someone touched the way the XP was calculated. Why? To nerf extreme results in operations, so you dont get insane XP anymore? Yes, thats how it looks like from over here. And it falls inline with all the other recent operations "reworks" - that were just scapegoats to nerf XP income / remove the possibility to fast grind in operations.

that includes Moskva which you said beeing true here, because you confirm everything over 8 inch overmatches: To which I again quote to point out you beeing wrong: to which you felt the need to insult. pwnd. move on.
-
Do I need to quote you or do you stop yourself?
-
Oh and btw: 8 inch guns are 203 mm.
-
So 220 mm overmatches Neptunes citadel? Again, interesting opinion :)
-
203 mm guns overmatch Neptune citadel armor? interesting opinion you have there my friend :)
-
umm... yes there is?

This argument is kinda funny, as Ive had it throw at me quite often aswell. And at the same time - the person, that I have played 98% of my division games with - had it throw at him aswell. So how this this work out? The person in question has only good stats because he is carried by the guys in his division. But ofc those guys also have only good stats, because they are carried by the guys in their division... err. yes. right. The problem comes from bringing Neptune in the first place. When I bring a Neptune, the enemys get an Alaska (atleast the chance is there). If that wouldnt be, Neptune wouldnt struggle imo. There is also not much you can do as a player picking Neptune, because in a random environment, with smoking and staying hidden, you just take tanking potential away from your team. And thats quite important. Again, stuff like Alaska/Kronshtadt come to mind, who bring more to the table in that sense. Could also say, Neptune fell out of the meta.
