Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
ForlornSailor replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Best round of the evening was meeting @WolfGewehr in KGV and @lup3s in Blyska. The game can be so easy, all you need is just a few competent people around you. -
smoke "changes" are a lie @ 0.6.12
ForlornSailor replied to _Graf___Zahl_'s topic in General Discussion
Exactly. What I saw in the video is exactly how I understood the smoke change when it was announced. -
IF WG really is concerned about BB overpopulution why dont they just........
ForlornSailor replied to Spellfire40's topic in General Discussion
You know whats funny? WG managed to come up with different detectabilitiy ranges for the new smoke spotting but couldnt figure anything different then "20s bloom time. always and for everyone". Really makes me wonder sometimes... -
This is whats bothering me a lot. The silence. You´d expect a bigger outcry. 100% agree. It would be a first step. It even needs to go much further. This is somewhat hilarious. You couldnt even go and discuss a certain player that got caught using a cheat cuz of "naming & shaming". In other gaming communities with clear anti-cheat-policies, there are even publicly accessable lists not only with the name but with IP of the offender and f.e. a decrypted version of his CD-Key.

New smoke rules and how very few actually know them?
ForlornSailor replied to Thracen's topic in General Discussion
This is a perfect example of what Aragathor means with this : People cant find a way to deal with a simple core-game-mechanic (I can think of 3 counters right away), so are happy the game is dumed-down and made more BB friendly. Sorry Guerrilla_Frank and the others: the problem is not with the smoke. Its with you and the lack of your skills / understanding of the game. -

Are you playing the same game as the rest of us? It took me literally 180 seconds in my first round after patch to witness the first victim of this - a DM rushing B in DD smoke to support our DD getting obliterated. -

If you think this is competitive-gaming then you have never seen competitive-gaming :D @AmazingBeaver it hurts to read that story. Sadly, it rather seems common. Ive run into one of those folk with his shiny Premium BB also - he shot at me in my Fiji-Smoke (his aim was luckly very very off), when I asked him wtf that is about he said : Its his first game. As in ever. Stats confirmed.... I looked to heaven and asked "why me?" But reading your story, I feel a lil bit better. Maybe so do you. You are not alone... -

You are on the right track. But imo the smoke change now comes, cuz they wont nerf premium ships. The two ships (non DD) which are profiting most from smoke are Belfast and Kutuzov, I think, that can be said without doubt. Also the fact, that they offer refund and remove them both in this very moment shows, that they realized something wrong with them. But - they stand by their policy not to nerf once released premiums. This is important for the future. If they´d nerf them, it will stick to their name, possibly lowering sales. About the smoke on cruisers in general: Maybe it was a bad idea. Not as bad as radar on BBs and superheal+superconcealment for the conqueror tho, f.e. I´d still say, that RN cruisers have a ton of weaknesses in exchange for the smoke. Its a pretty high skill wall to make them strong, but I admit - then they have the potential to carry a game. But is that so wrong? I wish every ship in this game would have the potential to carry if played at the limit of whats possible. Many cruisers cant. Another thing about the "smoke abuse". I dont really think that RN CLs contribute(d) that much. Yes, they can smoke up themself. Their smoke is so small, that it doesnt really work as a wall or covers anyone else then themself. A Division can fit it, maybe - they still need spotting, also. And if thrown torps in their direction, it often results in massive damage. Its rather intelligent DDs (often in divisions) that lay perfect smokes for offensive teammates, covering 3 or more ships which can then go happy trigger. And those DDs then usualy run circles in front of their own smoke - spotting targets and more important: torpedos. A very powerful tactic, often too much for any random team to counter. But does it involve RN cruisers? nope. -
I took a look at all the streams on twitch just out of curiosity - there are a lot of ppl, even newbs, using this stuff... Then again - what difference is it going to make, if WG says its "not allowed". The word obviously has spread about those "game enhancers". What part of the ppl using them would stop, just because WG says they are "forbidden". The game needs a reliable anticheat and using all things, that are clearly cheats, needs to be a bannable offence. A easy solution is automated, random screenshots of the clients that get transfered realtime. All you need to program is an automated tool, that searches for irregularities in the pictures - like the white "X" in the mimimap. Stuff like this already exists. And before anyone claims, this isnt possible - its been done in tons of other games before. Its been implemented by third partys, not even the game developers, and screenshots have been MANUALY checked by volunteers of the community already over 10 years ago.

ForlornSailor replied to Thracen's topic in General Discussion
I have only one thing to say: Wether you like or dislike the new smoke-detection-rule: You just dont change a core game meachnic, that everyone is beeing used to after such a long time. period. -
Intentional gimping of (non-premium ship) BASE XP for the Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya marathon?
ForlornSailor replied to AnEvilJoke's topic in General Discussion
Only yesterday, I did 1600+ with Fiji, Edinburgh and Donskoi. Ill leave it to OP to check, if they are premium... btw @Mandalorianer - if its so hard for you to make 1600 base XP - why not just buy the ship if you want it so desperatly? You obviously invested in premium (which doesnt help for that mission) and took a day (or more?) off from work? Im sure, not everybody is capable of doing 1600 base XP. And WG has every right to put the bar to such a level, that a part of the players wont make it. Else they could just make a mission "Log in to your account twice" - which wouldnt be a mission at all, dont you agree? There needs to be a challenge... -
I think you found the answer yourself ;)

You know, this is part of the selling strategy aswell. They have the numbers, but im taking a guess here: Sales of Belfast and Kutuzuv have gotten slower (its just normal to asume that, cuz at some point, most active ppl that wanted it - bought it already). Only sales coming from new players or someone changes their mind. Now, to squeez the rest out of that premiumship, you annouce "it will be gone forever... soon". So it will aggrivate exactly what you feel now - gotta buy it or I might regret it.
-
100% agree with you @MacFergus. Tbh - im not sure if removing it from the offical modpack will do the trick at this point. Not sure if its also in aslains modpack, im guessing yes. So anyone activly using it right now and couldnt after the next patch through the offical modpack (if its going to get removed) would just go and get it elsewhere, im pretty sure. All those excuses with "im only using an offical modpack" will collapse when ppl cant abuse that mechanic anymore. Theyll just get it elsewhere. But personaly I dont want to see it in the default game either, since I concider it too powerful.

Maybe they missed it. Only they can explain. Thats why Im waiting for an answer. Several WG staff have been in this thread today for quite some time. So they should be aware atleast by now. Give em some time... I still have faith they gonna do the right thing.

Yea your attitude towards onlinegaming is clear "if it offers advantages ill use it". People like me & many others chose NOT to use them, cuz they DO offer an advantage. Its called sportmanship. never heard of? no wonder. Atleast I can face myself in the mirror without having to puke :) You might want to read up on defintions of cheats / mods. You are not the one making the definition, neither am I. I suggest wikipedia. I even posted the link before in this thread. Mods + Cheating in online gaming. look it up, read it, think about it, come back. srsly.

See what I did there? Makes more sense now aight? Get it in your freakin stubborn head that a mod does not offer advantages. You keep denying to name the child by its name, go on, make yourself look more stupid.

Id say an appology is at place, dont u think @Guerilla_Frank?
-
Anyway, since I see some WG staff browsing this thread, f.e. @Tricha_ - Is there a chance to get a statement on this particular part of the offical modpack? Will it be removed? added to the game? Whats the position, now that it caught some attention?

No he is not. Might want to read f.e. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheating_in_online_games Pay attention to "Cheating in online games is defined as the action of pretending to comply with the rules of the game, while secretly subverting them to gain an unfair advantage over an opponent." and " Extrasensory perception in video games displays contextual information such as the health, name, equipment, position, and/or orientation of other participants as navigational/directional markers, which would normally be hidden from game players." You find anything about better computers? better connection? I dont think so. Why does it even need to be discussed. Its defined by this very definition, There is no argueing or watering it down. The fact, that you are tryin to argue with "better computer" shows, you are clearly out of any decent arguments, no?

I made my possition on this very clear already 3 times. You seem to lack the intelligence to understand. Take a slice of your own pie? Actually, you are not. You are just telling everyone, that isnt following your ideas to stfu + the only one insulting in this thread is you. Which is against the forum ettiquete anyway.

You are bored today again, arent u? The one saying it is some kind of global rule anywhere you go, wasnt me, but: So actually, you might want to quote him not me. No, im not mixing subjects. The post of darky was intented to say "this discussion is useless since in general nobody has a say to the rules but the publisher". Which initself is wrong. And we seem to have a different understanding what rulesets are. When brining a game into a competetive league, there are tons of rebalancing changes. F.e. in wows all premiumships would be banned in an enviroment like that. It often includes banning certain weapons, changing their behavoir etc (which is not even possible in wows as of now). Its what ive been missing the most in this game tbh. beeing able to create a training (private)room (which isnt even in the game by default - also wrong) and have an direct access to the config file there. Sort of like "create your own PTS-Server", toy around any setting you wish and test it with a few ppl. I strongly belieave, that this is the goal in the mind of OP when creating this thread. Its also why im here. About your intensions im not 100% sure tho.
