Glorious Ramming mechanics (aka bugged as F)
ForlornSailor replied to GulvkluderGuld's topic in General Discussion
Download OBS Studio (its free), then start recording and watch the replay in wows. Or start recording at that point of the replay, that you want to record. Not the first time I see/hear weird ramming results when russian BBs are involved - its always russian BBs. There seems to be something wrong. Was it bow vs. bow? -

Can we talk about the blatant lie that is Smolensk?
ForlornSailor replied to mantiscore's topic in General Discussion
Indeed it does. And thats imo the main reason, why it was favoured in this season clanwars. Do I think its tanking abilities are too strong? Yes I do, especially in a 6x6/7x7 environment. You got less incoming fire, thus less problems of dealing with DoT, which the russian BBs are anyway extraordinary at. You also take low alpha damage from cruisers and DDs, with the expection of some clans, that build their cruisers to pen 40+mm of armor with HE. Which is questionable aswell. But yea, clanwars was hugely favourable for the Vladi/Lenin, who no doubt are strong BBs either way. Ill come back to that point later. As do I. But Id rather see people build their own opnions or base their arguments on facts and not jos following what their god preaches (this isnt even directed at you mainly, just something, you see in this community a lot, I just mention it because you mention streamers). Ive said this before and ill repeat it. The problem imo is, how ships like Kron, Alaska and Stalingrad are handled by the matchmaker - as cruisers. If they would be labeled as BBs in the matchmaker and matched with a Musashi or Bourgogne - it would lower their match impact greatly. Infact I argued with MrConway long ago about this, fielding the very Neptune as an example. One team gets an Alaska, the other a Neptune. Its borderline unfair, simply because the Neptune is a ship that is hiding, while the Alaska straight out adds another damage sponge to the team. And if they would be labeled as BBs - people would call them useless and ask for buffs, im pretty sure. Well, yes and no. You cant ignore however, that Kron is huge, clumsy and has a pretty bad concealment. Its harder to protect your cita from getting hit, compared to many other cruisers. And even compared to some BBs, who have a thicker belt and thus are harder to penetrate, even when beeing clumsy. So, while having a cita is not a weakness per se, the other attributes of the ship does make it weaker then the competition. This counts even more for the T10-sisters Moskva and Stalingrad. And that I dont see. As I said earlier - the community is biased by the russian bias meme itself. Where do russian ships top the majority of charts? The cruisers? the DDs? Yes, they have some strong ships. As have other nations. I myself find a lot of the british ships very powerful - but thats also because they suit my playstyle I guess. Now I will come back to where I ended earlier, about Vladi/Lenin beeing so strong in CWs. Wouldnt you agree, that its sort of a WG tactic, that new lines, when released, are usualy really strong? Thats usualy because of the meta or some gimmick they get, that people arent used to. We had shitstorms when the RN smoke cruisers came, we had shitstorms when Worcester was introduced. Are the russian BBs too strong? Yea, I agree, they are. They have too much going for them. But this is in the first place WG policy, to make people even spend money to get up the silver line ASAP. We can only guess, how many people did this just for the clanwars, because they wanted to field their own Vladi. And im sure, they will nerf the russian BBs in time. Maybe the cooldown for the DCP will be longer. Which will have an impact on their performance. Its not like we havent seen this rebalancing of new lines in the past. Remember Alsace, how strong it used to be? Only a shadow left. -

Off-topic: If I wouldnt make the same experiances over and over again myself, Id say stories like that are made up. Sadly, they arent. Ill at mine from yesterday: My Udaloi is contesting a cap against a Friesland. He is crying for help. Bismarck is already in full retreat from that flank (completly understandable, imagine the Friesland would dev strike torp him! ) while Lenin is stationary, bow in, letting himself get farmed from the unicum CV. So I (cleveland) decide, Ill try to communicate with the Udaloi. I tell him, ill come to radar the Friesland (who was left alone by his support aswell) and we can both rush and kill him. Ill get an "Ok" in the chat. So, clueless as I am, I rush unspotted towards the smoke, hammer the radar and start to shoot...alone. Looking behind, I see, my Udaloi has speed boosted behind the next island to safety. I guess he only then realized, that the already dangerous smoke infact had an even more dangerous ship hidden inside. What happens is: I fail to kill the Friesland by 2800 health, he keeps me perma spotted while beeing stealth and im getting raped by the 2 red BBs from 15+ km. If that trrd would have ONLY shot off the remaining 2,8k health I would have survided & we would have gotten the cap. But this community is not made for teamplay. -

Its 40/45 mm tho. The huge health pool is negliable since it takes a lot of damage. It has cita weakspot that limits your playstyle. Versatile? Its AA is crap, it overpens Cruiser and the RoF is bad for fighting DDs. The HE dpm is really really bad. It needs very specific angle to be able to perform to its best ( @wilkatis_LV did the math at some point). A versatile T9 imo is the Neptune. If you ask me, the Kron is everything but versatile. Even more so the Alaska. Better armor, much better AA, better concealment, higher range, much better AP, better suited to fight Cruisers & brawl BBs. Ill take Alaska over Kronshtadt every day of the week - which is also highlited in my stats. murrican bias? And which T9 cruiser isnt strong? Ibuki and Buffalo are at the lower end imo, but they have their strenghts too. Buffalo heavy AP, Ibuki is a long range HE sniper with good accuracy. No need to get passive-aggressive. No its not. First of all, all lines have paper ships, some more, some less. Eventhough its up for debate, if it matters, if the ship really was build, half finished, existed only as a plan or even saw action in war or not. Ill get to your Yamato example later. But its funny that in this game, this soviet bias is actually often down to personal bias. People always focus on 2 or 3 specific ships. To kill this soviet bias meme, I guess WG would need to make every single russian ship so weak, that it clearly underperform against all competition, else someone will still come "oh its a russian company SOVIET BIAS". Why dont we talk about Minsk? Gnevny? Ognevoi? Leningrad? and their counterparts? They are, imo, no where near their german, british and US counterparts. And the new french DDs on those tiers do everything as the russian DDs but better. 460mm overmatch mechanics. its a HUGE advantage, Kremlin doesnt have. One of the reasons, Yamato has to pay a lot for that. Ive had this discussion about Yamato overmatch mechanics a lot of times and people even throw things like "oh that matters in 1 of 100 games in 1 salvo" at me (not saying you said that, but thats a direct quote from someone, who argued about Yamato beeing bad with me not long ago). The thing is: when people dont know the advantage of this, they cant use it. Thus not playing the ship to its strenght. Yamato has huge potential. There is a reason why some of the best BB players around will still pick Yamato. It has a higher skill ceeling but rewards good play much more then other BBs. And talking about strong BBs, one ship is flying COMPLETLY under the radar - and thats the Bourgogne. Oh yea, but it gets away with it since its not russian and flamuu didnt say so. I wish this community wouldnt thrive on ship jesus, pitchforks and torches but rather on facts. Not every ship needs to be easy to play. Some have their distinuged advantages and need a certain playstyle. If that, played correctly, is then making it possible to outperform the competition - fine by me. Ill agree that Kremlin is rather easy to play. And you see this by a lot of people. They will just anchor bow in and tank like crazy. And Kremlin IS very strong like this. But here is the thing: If the enemys start to fight the Kremlin on his terms, as in go bow in aswell and do a static stand-off - thats their fault. This game is all about using your advantages and forcing the enemy into its disadvanatages. When I see russian BBs I know, they will bow camp and be very static usualy. So Ill use that to my advantage, like torp the s%%% out of it. And if you meet a Kremlin player, that knows about this disadvantage and keeps moving - chances are, its a very good player and he would play very strong in any ship. And just so that nobody says "sounds good in theory, doesnt work in practice:" from yesterdays clanwars. And its not the first time I do this... -

So if Vladi and Lenin wouldnt exist, everyone would play North Carolina or Massachusetts. As happened before. And T7 Ranked? Used to be full of Belfast and Fiji. btw - I played Z-39 and was absolutly easy mode. But yea, I get it. People love to stomp their feet, like the guys above you. So now Kronshtadt is a BB because it fits the fist shaking so nicely. Who care about beeing objective these days. Yea I guess those video games, where you see iranians, afghans, north koreans, russians, chinese [add country, which US has beef with now here] as blood thirsty, suppresive, diabolic, despotic war-mongering people killing civilians is more to your liking? -

Yea I agree, we need to lobby to change the research bureau. Ive done 110k with Isokaze recently and only got stopped from my friendly DD torping me point blank. This cant be what WG wants experianced players to do, its bad for the lower/newer playerbase when they are getting stomped like that... -
Can we talk about the blatant lie that is Smolensk?
ForlornSailor replied to mantiscore's topic in General Discussion
Could we maybe have a serious discussion without all this "sovjet bias" talk at some point? And if not Id like you do explain Moskva. Anyway. Since you mention damage. Smolensk actually deals way more DoT than any other T10 cruiser. That should be out of question, because of her caliber and the high fire rate. The opposite is the Minotaur, which deals only alpha damage with AP and torps. If you want to hint at damage, thats something you cant ignore, else you are not objective. Or do we need to buff Minotaur DPM by ~33% to lift her up to Smolensk standards? btw - I have a very special way of playing cruisers like the Smolensk. I hate farming useless DoT on BBs, I dont do it with Minotaur either. I fully hunt DDs because thats what wins games. My conclusion so far is, that Minotaur is better at doing this. Also, Smolensk is dependent on A) your own team spotting for you and B) the enemys enable you to farm them. It feasts on camping, stationary BBs, that allow you to farm them. However. Worcester can do the same. But Worcester will be even faster, since it deals more Alpha damage in most cases. The funny thing is: if a ship is actually faster farming such enemys, it will result in lower damage output. Why? Easy. The BB will get more time to heal, making it possible to milk more damage out of it. But that will actually lower the impact of the ship on the match outcome... Also, you find those kind of ships / HE-farmers on any tier. Atlanta, Helena or Murmansk/Marblehead are only a few examples. -

My division faced @GulvkluderGuld and his Missouri earlier today. Me in Alaska but our team was a lost cause. Your team played it very well. I tried to communicate with every possible methode to make them all stop sitting behind one island, because that deadly cornered up situation was unfolding pretty fast. But despite me radaring the 2 DDs in your team twice, they didnt move nor shoot. Well, one of those games . Too bad we 2 couldnt even exchange fire, eventhough we were on the same flank :D (your teammates offered better targets all the time, yet it felt like im the only one shooting them - like the full broadside Neptune). gg -

Comparing RTS Hosho and rework Hosho by the number of Torpedos in ... (I cant even finish the sentence since it doesnt make sense) and ignoring every other aspect got to be one of the most special things ive seen so far. good job. But this way of comparing things has really opened my eyes, thx. From now on, I will take an airplane to go to my supermarket. Its faster then my bike. -
I can see both your points @thiextar and @Floofz and I kinda agree with both sides. What bothers me, is, that heavy cruisers in those situations get punished harder than light cruisers - for having the better armor. Another thing, that should be taken into concideration: it teaches players bad habbits. If you get away showing broadside all the time in your Atlanta (f.e), then you go and play a Buffalo... you will think "what the f is going on?" Only a small percentage of the playerbase is skilled enough to activly make use of this mechanic. The rest makes use of it unconsciously. And if they look at the armor models in game, they might think, they will even be better of in their heavy cruiser compare to light cruisers, because the armor is "better". To kinda make both sides happy, the game needs to be reworked I guess. Light cruisers would need smaller citas, which then in return cant be overpenetrated. What happens, when BBs get slightly better accuracy and penetration can be witnesses in this seasons clanwars aka "season 6: make Cruisers obsolete". This is a two-sided sword and we need to be careful, what we ask for.

The problem often lies in the inconsistency of the line. Moskva breaks with the playstyle of the ships before, therefor its a weird end to the line. You need to adapt from your former ways. This might a) be a challenge or b) you might not like the playstyle Moskva needs to perform.

Yesterday, a mate of mine played his first T4 CV game after the rework. He wanted to see, whats the fuss about. All I heard in voice was a wall of laughter, lasting the entire game and starting about 50 seconds after he started playing.

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
ForlornSailor replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
That logic is pretty flawd. Leaving the p2w-thing aside - you need to be good to get into a decent clan in the first place. And by the time you are that good, you know enough people to start a "unicum divison" anyway. The biggest reason, to be in a clan these days, are the clanbattles. If that wouldnt exist, I would still be in my old clan with 6 or 7 people. Oh yea, and before oil, clan port and that stuff existed, I actually had no clan at all because why? And still did division all the time... btw: If I tell you the amount of money, I spend in my entire wows-time, you will prolly turn red and explode because it bursts your logic. -
I like everything between 4 and 9 tbh. There would be nothing wrong with 10 exept for the useless Shima, Kurfürst, Conqueror or whatever -mains, that play T10 day in, day out with their <40% WR and next level border humping "tactics"
-
Lets see. Killing enemy BBs... check. Killing enemy DDs... check. Dealing lots of damage...180k...check. Defending caps... 350 of 351 defended points...check. Capping.....capping? See. thats the problem right there. You ofc need to cap aswell. Preferable all of them but atleast 2/3 or 3/4 (depending on map). Clearly a l2p issue right there.

Check the stats. Then again - you´d rather expect to do 150k in a T8 CV, rathen then in a T4 ^^. Im not at the Implacable yet, so cant comment. Then again - not sure if im looking forward to? also because of a certain other T8 CV :D -

ForlornSailor replied to mil71's topic in General Discussion
Im sorry to break it to you, but: the part you quoted is from a time, when T4 carriers were pretty bad. Right now, T4 CVs are pretty much the strongest CVs tier-for-tier (yes yes I know, Enterprise). Hosho is straight out broken OP in the right hands. You should not be getting 10k dmg per game but rather 50k+. 150k with Hosho is actually possible right now. -

43 cap resets - I kept switching back n forth between 3 BBs, they just wanted to have the cap soooo bad . Once they noticed, they will lose the game this way and started to push me - it was way too late ^^ -
No the Bismarck is not weak just the players.
ForlornSailor replied to _HMS_RICHY's topic in General Discussion
Well, thats where I disagree to a degree. You cant balance a ship around the worst players. We see this in the current reworked CVs (leave the last patch aside), where a lot of people are still completly useless. Yet the best players have total OP tools in their hands. So in which way you want to balance that? If you buff Bismarck, so that its viable to play as a long range sniper, it will make f.e. IJN BBs completly obsolete! And you gotta start buffing them and other ships because you throw off the balance. And please dont mention RU BBs as an example, every half way honest player knows, they are OP and shouldnt be like that. And now, to bring this towards a closure: We have different ships, different lines with different playstyles. And thats a good thing. Everyone can find a ship, that suits him. And if one ship doesnt suit you - then it might not be for you. Instead of trying to change it, to make it fit your style - pick another one, that offers a plattform, that you know how to use. Only the very best players can adapt so perfectly, that they can make every ship work. -
No the Bismarck is not weak just the players.
ForlornSailor replied to _HMS_RICHY's topic in General Discussion
You most likely are. But the vast majority of the playerbase doenst know how to play the Z-52 (or german DDs in general) to its stenghts. And its also one of the harder DD-lines to play. But thats sort of my point for the Bismarck discussion: You need to identify the strenghts of a ship and play accordingly before you can judge how good the ship is. And thats where even the server stats and personal experiance might lose you. I mean obviously you wouldnt say, Z-52 needs a buff, right? If we stay with that example and compare. Yet the server stats are horrible and would justify a buff by all means. And looking back at Bismarck: the stats of her aint no where that bad compared to the other T8 BBs as the Z-52 is to the other T10 DDs. -
No the Bismarck is not weak just the players.
ForlornSailor replied to _HMS_RICHY's topic in General Discussion
Indeed. But it goes both ways as in you can be biased in a positive or negative way. Im rather biased in a negative way towards Bismarck and I take that into account. The reason beeing, that I have problems playing the ship to its strenghts because I love to tank in my BBs. Thats why I run survivability / tank builds on my BBs which might not be the best option for Bismarck. And just for comparision: the general stats of Bismarck actually arent that bad. If you want to see, how bad a ship can be, I suggest looking at Z-52 stats and compare them to the other T10 DDs - knock yourself out: http://maplesyrup.sweet.coocan.jp/wows/ranking/20190907/eu_week/average_ship.html Im confused, you basically confirm what im saying yet you start with disagreeing. Maybe we talk about the same things and call them different. So lets clarify: My position is, that the dispersion pattern of Bismarck actually isnt that bad, compared to other BBs but the lack of guns and the bad firing angles makes it feel bad. And kinda does lower the performance of the ship, I do agree on that one. Its those salvos, when you need to make it count, when the ship doesnt deliver. I mean compared to Sinop Bismarck reloads almost 20% faster - yet when a cruiser shows you broadside at 10 km that all doesnt matter if both BBs have their shots ready. btw: Missing a full broadside cruiser at 6 km is not something, that only Bismarck is capable of. Missouri can do this aswell f.e. or my Musashi recently, firing at something to 5 to 7 km at a full broadside Kurfürst yielding me 2 overpens and no other hits. Well, it SHOULD if everyone WOULD play the Bismarck to its strenghts AND know how to aim. And we all know, that huge parts of the community isnt capable of playing a ship like its supposed to be and aiming correctly. You see border hugging Bismarcks all the time. no wonder their hitrate stinks. So you cant go looking at the stats, saying "the hitrate should be like that because the ship is best at short range". If anything, you would need to look at good individual players, of those that you know play all BBs to its strenghts and then compare the hitrate. If Bismarck (or german ships in general) shows lack of accuracy there, then you have a point.
