How about this one? Last week. Yes, 3 of my "teammates" managed to die within less then 3 minutes. I hadnt even fired a shot yet. Also needless to say - they managed like 1k damage combined. And no, they were not bots.

Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?
ForlornSailor replied to 66Schwifty's topic in General Discussion
Can you do / Do you have such a table for T4-T7? I think you have a wrong perception about island spammers. you know, they are BEHIND the island. A well played HE spammer behind an island is the absolut last ship a DD can hit. What the DD can do, is making the HE spammers blind, aka fighting off the DDs and other stuff in open water. Because someone sitting behind an island always needs a spotter. -

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
ForlornSailor replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
gg. The the Kleber I have to say: Once again I dont understand WG. why doesnt it take AP damage from BBs? But thats prolly some new-line-gimmick to make ppl spend money for free XP. In a couple of months, theyll nerf her I guess... Meanwhile, I got denied a 200k game - feels bad. Had a full Kremlin in front of me (its visible on the screen, below the 167 free XP ^^) and I was the only ship on the entire flank. But we reached 1000 points since the enemys were too stupid for everything. sigh. -
Its so sad to see, that one of the key functions of a teambased game can be disabled. And I wonder how thin skinned you have to be, that something like a game chat gets to you. I will never ever disable the ingame chat and I will forever try to communicate in a constructive way with my teammates. I will also forever call every i**** an i****, no matter how often ill get a chat ban for that. suck it up buttercups.

This statement however is way too general. If you are looking for an answer: Yes, a (any) light cruiser should absolutly be able to beat a (any) BB 1x1. And they are. However, some russian BBs are terrible to fight as a (as some) CL.

why german BBs should be the worst BB line in game?
ForlornSailor replied to Admiral_AHR_TheNightmare's topic in General Discussion
Oh come on, this "you can repair all the fire damage" is, atleast by now, such a myth. Biisoni is right in saying, that these days, HE spam is the biggest problem for a BB on high tiers. You cant be aggressive as a BB AND control / repair the fire spam thats usualy thrown at you by all the great, rather new WG inventions. Not only talking about Smolensk, you can add Henri, Worcester, Harugumo, Conqueror and a few others to the list easily. And then we see more and more "classic" BBs resort to HE aswell, which sounds stupid but is often the right thing to do, since those extra fires will push your abiliies to control fires over the cliff. And sure as hell you cant use a secondary build german BB effective these days with the HE meta around. Ive switched to tank/surv build in my Bismarck and since then its working fine. -
why german BBs should be the worst BB line in game?
ForlornSailor replied to Admiral_AHR_TheNightmare's topic in General Discussion
Im sorry to tell you this, but you lack the experiance to judge which nations BBs are accurate and which arent. You have exactlty one game played in a BB that is not german - and you have the worst main battery hit ration in that game. It is both actually. Just couple of days ago I shot long range on a Myoko broadside with my Bismarck, he started to dodge and I hit that one famous shell, which clearly was waay out of line. So not saying your example is wrong, just that it goes both ways. Anyway: I always said, that the dispersion formula/Sigma should take the following into account: gun caliber - reload time - number of guns. Thus giving BBs with low number of guns and rather small calibre a good dispersion *looking at you, Gneisenau* They kinda done it right for Georgia and Tsuntsun, eh, Thunderer. Another side of the problem often is, that players dont chose a ship fitting their playstyle but got for iconic name or nation and then expect the ship to work the way they want. Its painfully obvious when you have a look at their stats. But I guess when you are new to the game, you dont have many option to help you decide which nation/line to pick, so thats the obvious choice. -
why german BBs should be the worst BB line in game?
ForlornSailor replied to Admiral_AHR_TheNightmare's topic in General Discussion
Buffing Sigma doesnt solve everything tho. Im going to go so far to say, that some players (with bad aim) can profit from bad dispersion formula / lower Sigma. I always like to refer to Lyon. Ship has bad Sigma on paper but the number of shellsin the air just makes up for it. Even worse: even dodging is impossible, because you cant get your ship out of the splash pattern. Recently I had this with Kiew, fighting a Lyon and a Bismarck. The Bismarck just scores way less hits because of better dispersion and the redicolous amount of shells the Lyon throws at you. This entire thing might more be a problem of powercreep then with the german BBs itself. -
CV's shouldnt be in the game, by a CV player
ForlornSailor replied to Black_Prince42's topic in General Discussion
Well, ive seen @Bear_Necessities doing that in randoms, as Ive seen @Blixies and @El2aZeR doing it on several occasions too. Edit: ofc it depends what you define as a "group" of ships and what kind of ships are in that group. But just for referrence: in RTS times, a couple of T10 ships actually were a no fly zone for any T8 Cv. -
CV's shouldnt be in the game, by a CV player
ForlornSailor replied to Black_Prince42's topic in General Discussion
What do you even want to test? if a T8 CV is losing a plane while flying over a T10 ship? nobody said it wouldnt. And if it wouldnt, what would that tell about the state of CVs, hm? -
Maybe you got a couple of representative replays to present? makes it easier to help you, because we kinda have to guess right now, where you are going wrong. But it sounds like what @loppantorkel says (also, that you keep predicting torps /DDs etc sounds like, as if you arent with your fleet). Follow your DDs, follow your cruisers and support them in what they are doing. In a BB you sometimes have to take paths, which you dont really want to take but you need to take. As mentioned above, you are sort of a damage sponge and keep your cruisers safe. If you are close to them, the enemys have a harder time getting to them. In return, the cruisers can support the DDs and keep them save. Both of this keeps you safe, because they will be fighting off the enemy DDs and BBs. Well, thats the theory, we all know, it doesnt always work like that but still.

ForlornSailor replied to Black_Prince42's topic in General Discussion
@MrConway @Crysantos so here is a player, that admits he leaves battles in the middle of the match, which is despicable and violates the rules of any teamplay-based game. Yet if I or anyone else tell him, what he is and what the community thinks of him, I risk getting a forum ban. Maybe you guys can do that for me?- 177 replies

Remove Colbert and Smolensk From the Game
ForlornSailor replied to VeidraVontae's topic in General Discussion
Totaly ignoring some of the most relevant factors in such a comparision, like, for example, gun caliber. Also, dont you want to understand, that the best players in this game will do outstanding in ANY ship they play? And also here, you fail to understand, that you meet a lot of GOOD players in those ships. So it should be : "but super unicums are the players I hate the most to see in battle." Besides that, Smolensk is a lot better then Colbert and still not OP. Tier-for-tier, a Kutuzov is much stronger. Wut? I dont even know what you are trying to say there. But whatever, be my guest, spend money or grind your behindoff to grab the super-duper-op-Colbert. Please do now. Ill expect you to report back here in a couple of days, showing off your uberstats. We expect nothing less then 70% WR solo and avg damage of 150.000. I looked at your stats and if you get numbers like that, lets say over 50 games, ill gladly join you in lobbying that Colbert is OP. -
Remove Colbert and Smolensk From the Game
ForlornSailor replied to VeidraVontae's topic in General Discussion
Congratulations, you picked a bot and try to make a point... And you fail to apply that rule by yourself. Thought you had that in class? What defines an outlier? People that perform in EVERY ship too good or too bad. You only apply that for one certain ship which is totaly lolz. Which means: For Colbert, almost the entire top 21 gets removed from the stats + even a couple after that. -
Aha. So CVs arent? Indeed it does.

Royal Navy is being discriminated against by WG
ForlornSailor replied to pzkpfwv1d's topic in General Discussion
And we need 4 Orion-clones, 4 Iron-Duke-clones, 5 QE-clones, 5 KGV-clones etc for what exact reason? hint: they are already all in the game, some of the classes even with 2 ships. thats more then enough! Not to mention, that you glorious math and cry for all those ships would give you +/- 25 ships with the same name. like a T4 Monarch, a T4 Conqueror, a T4 Thunderer ... etc. Ill add Z-39 to that list. Simply the best T7 DD imo. -
Sunray super hard 5 stars - has anybody done this one succesfully?
ForlornSailor replied to NothingButTheRain's topic in General Discussion
There is no CV anymore ;) -
The only thing, that helps (especially when you play a DD and look for support), is, to develop a feeling to judge the players around you. The first minute these days I spend looking around at my team, here is kinda my checklist: - Any known clans (you need to remember the good clans, not only the A-line, but also the not so known ones, that still have really decent players) - Look for SE. BBs with SE? trashcan. DD without SE? very questionable, im cautious. - Initial movement. Do the cruisers go into correct position? headding for islands? They are worth my support. BBs turning around? fggts, ignore. - Camoflage. DD without camo? Yup, not gonna support that / risk anything for him, especially when he checks the other marks (clan/SE) But any ship without camo sinks in my judgement a lot, more so on high tiers. A T10 BB without camo and turning around in spawn can be concidered a liability right away.

There are very very few players with a solo WR of 60%+ in T10 BB/CA/DDs. And sometime you simply are helpless (when playing Solo) if you dont have the right counter, which you would need and the people on your team, which posses that needed counter either yolo´d already or are too dumb to use it. And thats jsut the way it is, you cant twist this around. And sure, you cant win every game and you are not supposed to. Even the best players in division picking perfect and strong ships cant overcome some of the stupid teams (+the fact, the enemy team might have good players once in a while too). But here is the thing and the bridge to OP: Imbalances, that are created by the matchmaker reinforce and multiply. So with all the one-sided games, that we already have for several reasons - do we really need an environment, where this happens even more often, because of the matchmaking? I say no.

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
ForlornSailor replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
So what are you saying? You give up then? You suicide? -
Spot the enemy DD from a position, where your team can help you to take it down and/or do it yourself. If you manage to take down the enemy DD you have all the advantage and can start to play the french DD as its designed.
-
A mid tier game comes to mind right away, our side only russian DDs, enemys IJN DDs. One of that gunboats even managed to talk, since the team was begging him to spot (he was hiding behind me f.e., Fiji). But he didnt came down from his high horse "Im a russian gunboat DD... I cant spot... I have CBT flag so I know better... rofl. So the entire team just gave in their fate, kept falling back, got torped to death, beeing blind the entire time, no caps no points.

Define very high. And give example. btw: Ill shut you down on CVs right away, for obvious reasons, so please another example. and hint: that is not very high The one who didnt understand, is once again you. You answered to one/the people writing here, as if THEY dont understand how to adjust to certain situations. And if its THEIR fault they cant make it work with a random team. You are completly ignoring or deliberatly misinterpreting the fact, that the people pointed out, its a problem with the playerbase as such, which means huge part of each and every team out there in randoms just do what they feel like and completly ignore factors like - team composition - high tier / lowtier - relevant for this topic in specific: type of DDs - map - CV or no CV - list goes on. So, now try again with telling me when you completly missed the point what I was saying.
-
You make it sound as if I/w, that we are talking here, have any way to influence a game of 12 and somehow enforce everyone to do whats necessary in a situation. its like asking the question "why do so many people die in car accidents?" and im gonna make a bullet point list saying: Dont make accidents Dont die That solves nothing. One player can not be the solution if vast majority of the playerbase has no idea how to play their ships or refuse to adapt to certain situations. You make it sounds as if the people posting here are the problem (and you make it sound as if you have the magic answer to that. Let me point out: they arent and you dont. simple as that. The problems desribed by OP are very real and are the result of WG creating ships within on class that are so different, that its blatently obvious for all to see. And I want to stress your last point even further: "if not, you are sailing the wrong ship". So here we are, at a point, where the playerbase has deteriorated so much, that we all think, before the game even starts: "all my teammates are useless, nobody knows how to play his ship, I will have to carry them somehow". And I know that most of us know this feeling. This already influences the ship picks. And for me, personaly, I refuse to play this game solo. Even a 2-man-divi is sketchy for me, since I know, we are missing something. So I look around for a 3rd guy to add. And when buiding divisions, we look to cover us against all possible threats. That means we never go with 3 ships of one class and usualy with 1 per class in the game. And this is also to a degree thanks to those problems pointed out from @Redcap375. Which also means, thinking further, that we cant freely pick what ships to play, since I constantly think about things I need to be able to counter shitty situations (weather they are caused by dumb teammates, players, that dont know how to use their ships, matchmaking creating an inbalance of some sort or people completly incapable of adapting to a certain situation is completly irrelevant).
