Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?
ForlornSailor replied to 66Schwifty's topic in General Discussion
Jesus christ forums 2019. Because 1 of 100 DDs can do it makes your statement "DD can damage BB without IFHE" true and his a lie? holy crap. Please touch your forehead with your flat hand >>now<< WG has lost the track on ranges etc the latest with the british BB line. They did on many occasions. I can give you one very obvious: take Bellerophon (and Orion for that matter). 15 km range on T3. then check the older BBs and check the cruisers on the tier range. the british BBs can literally sit comfortable out of range of the cruisers, take out their engines & rudder with HE and put them dead in the water. The number of helpless, defensless cruisers I took out that way while beeing stationary myself is disgusting, quite frankly. But hey: why on earth would I want to get closer? BB dispersion hardly gets that much better to justify beeing at 10 km instead of 12~13km, when in return you get shot at? Or how about... -

Agree. The way I see it, is this: the event is there to farm the filth so we get the rewards. And ofc I want to do this as fast as possible. The other option of trying to get full is a speed run. You can get between 1000 to 1600 filth easy and riskfree, then exit in about ~7 minutes. Ive also done some math for those teams, that camp the center unsuccesfull, invest18 mins per game and get 200 filth. They need 820 hours to get all the rewards. That translates into ~29 hours per day... find the error :P While a dedicated farming group, like you describe, can get it in 14 hours playtime (as some have done already). So I dont understand the "PvP is phun" argument, when Id have to play 60x more games in a mode, which is boring repetetive. And well, for everyone, that is so excited about PvP - im not sure if I need to hint those guys at something called "random battles"? maybe they havent found them yet?

If you explain to me, how this genius could possibly get more Filth, while volutarily throwing away 80% of this stach RIGHT AT THE OPEN PORTAL - be my guest btw: my group: 9 mins, highest filth of all 3 teams. other groups: 12 ~ 14 min, 550 and 850. Yea, their PvP attempt was worth it . In all fairness, the SBI guys were a division and also ignored those "PvP superstars", just exiting while the others killed themself, as exibit A shows hahahaha.
-
Hahaha yea, like the bunch of nabbs that camped the Portal yesterday for 19 minutes (god knows why they stayed alone on the map waiting for their death) to bring home 7 filth. lmao. Thats why using generalizations ist plain stupid. btw - people that you describe as "PvE naabs" are already done and have all rewards. Had so since saturday afternoon. Enjoy your

Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?
ForlornSailor replied to 66Schwifty's topic in General Discussion
Fair enough but in all honesty: Your message comes across a little different then. But ok, lets talk about the subject from an average players view or how we think about the average players problems in a BB. I rather have a little bit more passive BB on my side, then someone, who pushes without thinking. Its funny, how often you get a comparable situation to a forum topic on the same day. Only yesterday evening I was playing with my division on Sea of Fortune. We spawnd A (Daring, Henri, Thunderer). We always go for the cap right away. Within a couple of minutes it becomes clear, that a majority of the enemys is headding A aswell supported by their CV. Only 1 other guy from our Team, a Montana, is coming A with us. Their DD was a Friesland - which is interesting in 2 ways. First, he is a rather calculable threat to a BB but a huge problem for our DD - especially since he got more backup. Our Montana goes extremly aggressive straight into A. I think he either does something like that all the time or he followed our DD and to a degree my innital path. I later checked his stats, he is a average player by all stats so sort of relevant for this topic. Now, I throw him a "get back" message because I see, he is getting into trouble. Once he is in A, he is heavily focused by a superior force. He turns, tries to get out and only manages to get so far. He dies a few moments later having achieved nothing. Then he goes on to flame me and the Thunderer in my Division. I think it was even more directed at me, since he saw, I had turned out and went behind islands / in kiting position. He calls me/us out for no support and beeing newbs. We give up the A cap, kite for almost 15 mins, then notice, its possible to push, turn around, get the last 3 enemys and win the game with 6 kills and over 450k damage on our division. The Montana is last. You see, this entire game is in my option relevant in 2 ways and shows, why currently everything is perfectly fine. First: Our Montana shouldnt be able to push any of the enemys, since they are in a superior position and outnumber him. The Montana is an average player, because he has not yet understood to read the game. He lacks situational awerness and doenst understand, when its time to push and when you need to be kiting to win time or get a superior position. His stats show me, that he knows how to shoot. But he is especially bad in high tier BBs. I can guess, thats because these BBs are faster, so get into bad situations quicker. Also, mistakes are punished harder on high tiers. And thats perfectly fine imo. Second: If BBs would be able to push Cruisers / DDs easier (as OP kinda wants) the enemy force would/could have been able to deal with us. We had our Daring screening for us and I was trying to hide and shoot as much as possible, later relying on open water dodging. It was GkF, JB and Montana particulary, that pushed us. And imo, we have all the right to be able to win this situation even against a superior force if we do all the right moves. Which still wasnt easy, let me point that out. Quite the opposite, it was one of the best games ive ever played. Well its a clan battle, so only 1 ship is missing (which is a Stalingrad inside the C-cap). For me, the problem ist the Yamato in the first place. Yes, I could fight him in the open but if I do so, their Kremlin (and possibly Stalingrad) have crossshots on me, so its those 3 ships that force me locked in this position. The Kremlin is the biggest problem for Henris, yes. He stops them from getting deeper (matter of fact, before that screen, one of the henris took already a double cita). They could only flank the Kremlin if they get unspotted which is impossible because of 2 DDs and a radar on that flank. Also, the Mino could hard spot them easily as a last resort because of the huge concealment advantage. Yes, the Yamato is the huge problem, exactly. A few minutes later, he is pushing up to the DM position (because the DM is in huge trouble, he got citas from the side (our Yamato/me in Moskva) and gets punished heavily from us again. So the conclusion is, that its mostly 3 BBs that pin down 90% of the fleet in their positions, red and green team. The enemys Kremlin position is not that strong imo, he only restricts my movement through the center of the map. The only guys, having some sort of freedom of movement are the DDs. But they are ofc restrcted by the radars and their concealment / position of the enemy ships. -
Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?
ForlornSailor replied to 66Schwifty's topic in General Discussion
Oh yes, as it SHOULD be. So you want every n00b in bis BB to run down the best players in this game, without getting a scratch, just because they are so unfortunate to be in a DD or Cruiser. Dude, I understood perfectly what you said, you made it even clearer now. Question is: do you understand what you are saying yourself? Then answer me the following questions, lets see if you understand game mechanics. - Which ship is stopping the cruiser marked with 1 from pushing? - Which ship is stopping the 2 Henris (2A) and the Des Moines (2B) from pushing? - Which ship is stopping the Stalingrad (3) from pushing? And, in consequence, since the Cruisers are confined to a certain position, the DDs are aswell. Because if they move out further, they will lose the back up of their cruisers AND get closer in the effective range of the enemy cruisers. -

These (and a lot of other factors) are exactly the problems when looking at statistics. There is a reason, why its a complete own field of science. Besically, you can prove anything with the same set of numbers, just be looking at them the way you want or focusing on something, that you want to be there. Here in the forums, you can often see this kind of selective / wrong argueing. Its not even always deliberate, it can just happen accidentally, especially when you go already in with a mindset and kinda find the prove for you already think.

What WG spreadsheets, Smolensk, CVs and Pavlovs dogs have in common
ForlornSailor replied to anonym_DKZABZXaXZld's topic in General Discussion
Not surprising. Because back then it was dedicating one of several squads with one or a few clicks, while you could still attack with the other squads. Now, you have to totaly dedicate yourself and do nothing else then spot. A couple of days ago I was so surprised to see a CV completely stop his attacks and find + spot the 2 enemy DDs raging wild on our team (ofc our DDs were long gone by the 4 minute mark). More surprising was the fact, that he obviously wasnt skilled enough to attack the DDs himself, yet he understood, that its cruicial for the team, if we want to win, that he needs to spot them. Gladly complimented him and we actually won because of his spotting. -
Its a test mate. Checking, how intelligent the playerbase is. Like this one: And now the conclusion: Playerbase failed. Literally 2 Monkeys are smarter then this community! And im not even joking....

Careful when researching next level event ships - it might just take your dubloons...
ForlornSailor posted a topic in General Discussion
So, is that really necessary WG? You´d have to force us to free a port slot for the second/third level event ships? Ofc I can NOT sell the first level ship (which somehow made it in my port, eventhough I did not have a free port slot). What now? I need to sell one of my ships to be able to purchase the next level ship? And that how many times? Because there are 2 of each class that means I need to get rid of 6 ships in my port - or im forced to buy them for this temporary event. gg WG you know how to make friends. Bottomline: Dont klick too fast when you research next level event ships - you might just spend dubloons without wanting it!- 22 replies

What WG spreadsheets, Smolensk, CVs and Pavlovs dogs have in common
ForlornSailor replied to anonym_DKZABZXaXZld's topic in General Discussion
There is an interesting conclusion that kinda jumps my eye in your text. If I roll that from the other side, Id ask: how must a ship look like, to show its clearly OP in the spreadsheet? Id say a ship with size and concealment of Kamikaze, speed of Mogador, Armor and health of Kremlin, guns of Yamato with reload of Gearing and Torps of Benham. And then the WR would prolly still be close to 50%, since, as you pointed out, such a ship would be so popular, that soon there would be battles 12v12 with only them. Actually, that would also balance out all the other stats. We would again have the same distribution of good players getting good results and, well, noobs beeing deep in the red. One might almost say: spreadsheet useless? ^^ And here is what I think is the problem and what you describe on the Smolensk-example: skill gap, skill floor, skill ceiling and effectivness. CV rework is another prime example. We now have Midways beeing absolutly useless, hardly everaging 10k damage (even after 100+ battles) while the other end of the skill scale stops from one damage record to the next with insane high WR. Yea, you can guess what the spreadsheet is saying: all is fine, since average numbers dont paint the whole picture. Sources here: https://wows-numbers.com/ship/4179605488,Midway/?order=average_damage_dealt__desc&p=26 https://wows-numbers.com/ship/4179605488,Midway/?order=average_damage_dealt__desc&p=1 Funny thing: the stats even paint a picture, that Audacious is the best T10 CV. Do we have any objections? @El2aZeR ^^ My conclusion is: this sort of min-maxing or creating glass cannons works only to a certain degree. If you overstretch it, you create ships, that are absolutly useless in the hands of someone, that doesnt know how to play it, while the strongest players turn those ships into absolute abominations. Sadly, this seems to be a trend in the recent ships, eventhough WG claimed, they are trying to lower skill gap (they said so with CV rework). Harugumo, Kléber and Friesland fit this description of min-maxing aswell, just to name a few others. -

ForlornSailor replied to ForlornSailor's topic in General Discussion
Well - Its not easy. While the second level ships dont have that much more firepower across the board, they get insane teambuffs. A permanent heal, faster reload for all armaments, other means of healing yourself or your teammates... As @Xevious_Red mentioned above aswell, they simply are better and make everything easier. Thanks for adressing the issue Tanatoy. Thats actually a very fair solution, personally im happy with that so thumbs up! -
Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?
ForlornSailor replied to 66Schwifty's topic in General Discussion
No, its YOU who dont get the point. This needs to stop right here, right now and Ill make it very clear to you. - BBs dont need, wont get and dont deserve any more tool then they have right now. - BBs already control the engagements and control the maps. If you dont understand or think this is not true - you dont know how to play BBs properly. - Other classes are controlled by humans aswell. They are not there for your personal amusement and farming needs. Take coop or scenarios for that. - If you get dev striked by "stealth DDs" (the stealthiness of DDs against BBs you obviously want to remove - lol for that) - its a problem with YOU. And second of all: You really think you´ll become some kind of super unicum, best of the server player if you get your BB-dreams coming true? lolz. You will most likely be wiped even harder by players that actually learnd how to play instead of wasting time whinging and fantasizing about all the buffs they need. -

Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?
ForlornSailor replied to 66Schwifty's topic in General Discussion
Ok, lets get reasonable here. Let me tell you, as someone who plays a lot of BBs on these tiers (feel free to check my stats) that hardly anywhere BBs are so strong as on T3 to T5. You need to start excercising a little self critic here, honestly. Im not trying to flame you, diss you, make you look bad or anything but trying to help you. Trust me, wows is a game with a loooooong learning curve. And thats not easily visible unless you go all the way. 1300 Battles is nothing. Again, trying to help you here, not make you look bad or anything. I was maybe 2000...2500 games in once I started to get the drift how to really influence games in my favour. Your stats arent even bad and I salute you for coming to the forums. Seriously. You are already way better then the other guys with 1300 games and 40%, that only hate in ingame chat. And you most certainly are waaay better then people with 18.000 games and 47% WR. So when you say "you want me on your team", yea, compared to those 2 examples I take you every day of the week. But dont stop there mate. There is much to learn. wows is slow game yet full of decisions. I cant even say how many decisions one player has to make during a game, but if you count seriously everything from movement, shooting, aiming, concealment etc - its easily a couple of hundred. And absolutly nobody with make the perfect decision on every occasion. The trick is to make good decisions more often then bad decisions. Your judgement, that you make good moves for sure isnt wrong. Because if not, you would be way below 50% WR. But you can make more and better decisions by improving. Feel free to use the Forum and community as a source of "how to improve". Ill give you one advice right here: Play some more T5~T7. Speed is lower, mistakes arent punished as fast at on T8+. Once you feel really comfortable and get to a 60% WR on those tiers - you have mastered and can move on. Soon you wont feel helpless even against unspotted DDs anymore. -

Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?
ForlornSailor replied to 66Schwifty's topic in General Discussion
Its common to deal more damage in a game, that you lose. There is more to shoot at and many people in this game get overly aggressive when they know/think they have won. I also often YOLO in the last minutes to torp rush something, even if I die doing that. I get more XP/credits/damage and my division gets to fame more aswell, when I die. Points and so. And someone has to be top XP even on a losing team right? Same as: Also logic. When the enemys are so bad, they basically beat themself. Or you have a very strong division / strong clans on your side that do the job and you missed that because you dont recognize their names.
