    I always go with Leander as the go to ship. (or Ryujo if not Cruiser) Smoke and Heal is just so much stronger than the other Cruisers. Its lacking HE, but you can make up for that by good positioning and ofc it has good torps.

ColonelPete is on to me, im just farming my 119k avg damage in my Hindenburg not focusing DDs enough What you probably ignore is, leaving Khaba aside, Hindi is probably the worst Cruiser to shoot DDs with: - Reload is more on the slow side compared to other T10 Cruisers - In relation to Zao and Moskva it has slower shells i.e. you have a harder time hitting - and the HE alpha is just so much worse than to the others. - Detection is not the best, so you are easily further behind than orbital shell US Cruiser, who else would have a hard time hitting aswell, but their volume of shells is just so much better. i see Hindenburg more of a support in DD killing (unless you get an idiot DD who lets you rush him with hydro), but not as a main DD fighter like some others. It is good against most BBs and exceptional vs almost all other Cruisers.

    Sadly this only shows how bad your team really was. Last game we played today we managed 386k damage in our 2man div 5 Star win ofc, but you shouldnt need to do much more than 200k damage alone in that OP imo.

    In before "Buff Stalingrad"-threads right after Xmas / New year when players can buy steel Alltho, Stalingrad is certainly much stronger in CBs because of the 7vs7 environment with only 1 BB present.

    You see, thats the funny stuff about this: You cant prove that DDs are always usefull to have in an operation, because they simply are worse for the tasks which need to be done. Sure, BBs arent always useful, but they can still be more useful than a badly played DD is. I just dont like DDs in Operations, because of incoming torps, bots will evade. This means, i cant kill them as easily with citadels, since i suddenly have to deal with angled bots. This means, i receive more damage aswell and have a harder time throught the operations. So not only do they have a harder time dealing damage, they can actively hurt your game (same as CVs can). A BB sitting in the back cant do that. You see DD player in randoms who are not willing to use their guns because reason? Not too long ago i killed a full HP Aigle in my Marblhead when i had 1300 HP He willingly just died, while he could have easily killed me. And here i continue the point i was making above: Only because there are DD players who are good in OPs, doesnt mean that the average player is useful in one. Thats why you cant prove the usefulness of DDs, but its far easier to show how useless they are if you fail more the more DDs there are in a game. Being more forgiving is a good thing in OPs, especially when DDs are getting screwed by the Bot AI - which i hate myself. DDs would be very good if the bots would just willingly take the torps the same way they take citadels.
  11. As hgbn_dk said, you can probably just grind through T5/6 and not skill IFHE, because after that, it is basicly useless. With small exception for Henri, as it can pen 50mm with IFHE. For other lines, its not that clear cut imo. I took IFHE for my Shchors before i take CE, since its a longrange HE spammer anyway.

    Mino has a huge strong point compared to the other radar ships -> Stealth Radar. In CBs you can get away with spotting the DD and your team shoots him, while you are undetected yourself. Or if you get spotted, you can radar and try to make him flee and he has still to run 1km further than your detection to escape the radar. In Randoms most DDs seem to accept their faith when you surprise radar them. Had a shima lately with Radar mino who died in like 4 salvos and he didnt even turn away anymore. Angling is a rare sight, and then there is still a chance that your team is shooting him also.
  13. Ive been playing Marblehead most of the time lately when it comes to midtier Cruisers, which is the same as Omaha, and i never had problems with broken engine. So imo you should skip it. But if you feel that it helps you, then maybe you can use it until you feel comfortable enough with your DCP management, because that is what it comes down to if anything. EM/AR are better 2pt skills than LS. I guess the worst enemy is an Orion which will break tons of stuff with its HE. Usually you dont want to fight those open water^^ If you can manage that, i think you can live without LS.

    Im gonna start facepalming right now... 1. I specifically said, a DD YOLOING right away is worse than a BB sitting in the harbour. The impact a DD like that has is somewhere between 0 and 0. With a BB camping in the back, i have atleast hope that he might get some damage in on all waves. Also, we are talking about Newport OP, not randoms -> stop your strawman right there. 2. So every DD is always top no matter how he plays? You cant use one example to whiteknight every DD who ever played in any Operations because you were top XP earner. However, its a simple fact that: - Bots do evade torpedoes but show constant broadside so you can citadel them - DDs have less firepower than Cruisers or BBs - Cant attract/withstand fire like Cruisers or BBs Can i post a screenshot of 3 DD game from any Operation which was a complete failure because they died after 3 mins? I vividly remember one game in Aegis where exactly that happened. Lets say, it ended rather early in a loss. 3. Same as 1. 4. They are a rare sight because they are simply worse than any other ship if the same player is playing them. I can manage a DD in most OPs, doesnt mean a Cruiser/BB/CV wouldnt be better, especially with the random teammates you get.

  16. How did you ninja me so fast when i pretty much edited the Premium part right away Demolition Expert. Nothing much else you can choose atleast for Omaha its pretty good. Probably Vigilance is the other one which is remotely useful... Not sure if BFT is worth it for a bit better AA.
  17. IFHE is only necessary when your caliber is <203mm. As for Japanese they get 203mm at T5, so they dont need it. Only exception is MOgami at T8 which can use 155mm or 203mm guns. The 155mm guns with IFHE are better than the 203mm guns tho. So basicly you want IFHE on - RU Cruisers T6-T9 (Kirov/Moskva dont need it) - US Light Cruiser line + Omaha - Mogami with 155mm guns - Emile Bertin/La Galissonniere + some premiums (dont want to list all) As a sidenote: königsberg/Nürngerg have 150mm guns but they dont need it, because they have a special HE penetration rule (1/4 of caliber, while others have 1/6)
  18. I think i wasnt clear enough PT is a good skill, you should use it. I meant, if you are spotted, never do a full turn in your Cruiser, even if noone is targeting you at that moment. They might just wait for you to turn, and on hightiers with turning circles being really large even for Cruisers, you will pay for it.
  19. Well, you should have your DCP for that. Basicly never use DCP for your turrets or Torp launchers (unless its really necessary, like you are 2km from a target and your torps break, then ofc repair them instantly). Also you can have one fire on your Cruiser and not DCP it, even without a heal. It should only deal 2-3k damage, which is better than to die because you have no DCP ready. If you get citadelled, you can always lose your engine. But you want to minimize those situations, and if it happens (will always happen) you should have DCP ready. Some Cruisers are more prone to getting their Ruddes disabled, like if you are kiting (which IJN Cruisers do) then you will lose your rudder more often. But its not the same for all, Hindenburg has no problems with the rudder.

    So if the OP singled out hightier RN CLs, how come you answered with Leander As i said, im not agreeing with Leander needing buffs, but that doesnt mean Neptune is fine because Leander is.
  21. Personaly i have never bothered with LS on Cruisers (and im a Cruiser main). Doesnt really feel necessary, because eating multiple citadels usually means you are dead anyway. For ships that lose their rudder more often (like IJN Cruiser) you should use Steering gear mod in the 2nd Module slot which can prevent that (or if you really want then take PM additionally). The fire reduction isnt that necessary, as Cruisers without heal die to HE alpha rather than to fires. And getting focus fired is something you dont want anyway. That being said: Concealment expert is a must have for pretty much all ships. 5. Dont take LS. PM isnt necessary either for BBs. AFT for Gneisenau is only worth it if you take Manual secondaries. AFT gives you ~1km more range on your secondaries, which is imo not worth it on its own. (well, it does increase AA range too, but still) Imo Gneisenau and Bismarck are the only german BBs where Manual Secondaries make sense. FDG isnt good with that build, and IMO GK profits more from a tank build. I was going for secondary GK, but i think its worse than taking the aiming system mod + tank build. Alltho i didnt abandon secondaries completely, so i have a mixed build right now, and i feel comfortable with it. 6. You have to remember that T9/T10 Cruiser want Super Intendent aswell as they get access to heal + all other consumables get one extra charge aswell. Because Concealment Expert is just too valuable to not get it right away. Never bothered with it (that means i dont know what they are recommending^^). Probably better of looking at Flamus builds on YT i suppose. If you are spotted in a Cruiser and you have to turn -> dont do it. You might get away with lower tier Cruisers because they handle better, but on hightiers some behave like bricks and you will get punished for it. That means, you dont want to overextend to a point where you cant be undetected anymore if you stop shooting. Thats why you need Concealment Expert. The best way to avoid such situations is turning before you engage, or you need really good map awareness that no DD can surprise permaspot you. Yep, dmg con in 2nd slot isnt too good for Cruisers. If you have problems with Rudder or Engine (as i mentioned above rudder for IJN), take the one you feel is more necessary for the ship in question. If rudder/engine failure doesnt screw with your gameplay, then you can still go with dmg con mod.

    If the one shooting the target is spotting himself, then noone gets spotting damage. F.e. a BB just fired his guns and is visible to another BB with LoS -> no spotting damage for you even if you are closer. However if you are the only one spotting the BB, and you have a Cruiser behind an island, then you will get the spotting damage. Im not entirely sure how it is, when, lets say, 2 DDs are both spotting one BB and someone deals damage to him who has no LoS. Both? The closer one? Or the first one to spot him (i guess this one).

    So... this one is really bugging me. This operation can start with 7 Cruiser players, and you will get 3 BBs. One secondary mission is, not to have less than 3 BBs. If you have 1 random BB, you will still get those 3 Bot BBs, which means you can lose one. If you have 2 Random BBs, you will get 2 Bot BBs + 1 CM, so again you have one spare. Suggestion: Change the mission to not lose more than 1 BB, so in either case you can lose 1. Having 7 Cruisers is already harder, because those Bots really shoot well, and they focus one target, so its tough being a Cruiser. Only exception are those with a Heal, which can atleast heal the fire damage after the repair circle is gone. 2nd Suggestion: Those AP Bombs are totaly unbalanced vs Cruisers. Ive seen twice the T1 bombers deal 15k damage to an Indianapolis, while the GZ deal 17k to me in my Fiji. First time atleast he needed 3 runs on me, but the last time, he just straight bombed me to death with 3 bombs (ofc all hitting me), dealing 17k+ damage They seem to be EXTREMELY hard to evade, and because they are GZ (derpderp) they citadel Cruisers with ease. Would be hard enough if they would be normal DBs and not AP DBs. @MrConway @Tuccy
