Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
DFens_666 replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
No, people used to get thrown under the bus far more often before they changed MM. MM didnt need 2 division to match against each other if they were faildivs. F.e. you were a T6 Cruiser in T8-9 MM and enemies got a T7 Cruiser instead. But then WG changed MM, and faildivisioning became viable, because you can only get effed by: - being matched against a same fail div - being for 3+ mins in queue, to offset certain MM rules We dont need faildivisions in this game, and if you want to do it, you should get screwed by MM. You should NOT get rewarded for it! -
Win, loss, win, loss, loss... a way out?
DFens_666 replied to AlphaBaboon's topic in General Discussion
Imo those are all rather bad ships for Ranked. For lower ranks, BBs or something like Stalingrad works pretty well imo. But the higher you go, the more you should switch towards high impact ships like Wooster/Radar Mino, DD or CV. If you play BB, and your DDs are dumb, you can basicly stop right away. Same if you have a CV (saw a 43% player in a midway with 14% in midway and 18k avg damage on stream.... you will lose a game like that). -
Guess you gotta whale it like a boss
-
I guess they could change the "for T8 Graf Zeppelin" to something different, but i think it shouldnt be too confusing?
-
Basicly you dont need to answer that question, but it might help you next time. Just think ahead what you want to do, look at the strength of your team vs the enemies on your flank. Count enemy ships on the minimap, and if most of them are spotted, you should be able to assess if you can push further or not. I guess if you would rewatch the game, you might think the same. Well, you need to know if you can punish the BB enough to make it worth your shot. If you dont have a chance to hit his citadel - dont do it. Like in that game, the Musashi was angled. Its not worth shooting it, better try to get some damage in on the Prinz Eugen. When the Soyuz reversed full broadside, thats a shot you should take however. Its just to get the feeling, which shots are worth more. If i see a stationary (Radar) Cruiser full broadside, i will shoot that over a DD aswell. Devstriking a Radar Cruiser is always worth it.

Well, watched the first one, here what i like to add: Why are you moving halfspeed from spawn? If you would have moved full speed, you could have gotten the Mogami while he went behind the island. Didnt understand why you kept reversing here. Enemies are basicly dealt with, you keep falling behind for no reason. They basicly cant harm you much or at all. Going back was ofc the way to go, hard to say which way would have been the best tho. But certainly, i wouldnt have left the island cover right away, as the DD just said "hello, here i am in your base". Lucky that you dodged the first salvo i supposed, but in the end you kept broadsiding to him all the time so... Far too easy to hit you, and you threw your HP out the window. Islands are perfect blocker for torps. 1 time you turned your turrets for the Maass but didnt shoot. Dont expect your Cruiser to kill the DD by themselves, HELP THEM! That DD cant heal, even 3k damage from you is 3k less others have to deal. Next time, shoot the DD if you turn your guns. Also you tend to turn your turrets around too much without shooting. If you have angled BBs ahead of you, rather try to shoot a Cruiser (like the Prinz Eugen). Even if he is angling/dodging, still go for it. Only then will you learn to hit them, if you arent able to right now. It wins games, shooting BBs for few k damage does not. The Soyuz was full broadside, but you shot the Musashi (like before) for basicly no damage. Iowa has no guns to overmatch any T8-10 BB. Shooting other BBs is always last priority. You shot BBs way too much, and ignored Cruisers instead. Shoot Cruisers first, then BBs (unless you can shoot a DD ofc, then shoot that as top priority). I think you could have turned the game if: - Focus the DD / dont show full broadside to him all the time moving in predictable pattern - Focus Cruisers more - Shoot BB broadside instead of angled BBs. The Soyuz was yours to get, but you missed it. In the end, your Sims ran cluelessly around. Try to tell him, to get into the enemy Base instead of ranting at the team. Sure, it doesnt work often, but sometimes it might.

1. Just for you Yamato stationary complete bow on (0°) at ~10km. When i got 100 hits, i stopped. Not even 50% hitrate on a Bot, which doesnt even have the usual -9% dispersion buff from Camo + concealment module. And thats a Cruiser having DD dispersion, not like other Cruisers which are even a bit worse. About the Superstructure: No, thats not true. Every section seems to have roughly the same HP (from what ive seen during testing). Like Superstructure / Bow / Aft. F.e. if you shoot the Superstructure of a GK, you will get full pens for ~15k damage. Then the Superstructure is saturated, and you will get half pen damage for ~65k damage (~80k total /75%). Then the Hull section is depleted of HP. Now if you shoot the Bow or Aft, you will deal half pens for a few k damage (i think its like 7-8k), then they are saturated aswell. Then damage gets lowered to 10%. https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Damage_Saturation#Hull_Saturation 2. Your Yamato must look different than mine... Sure the entire bow is 32mm, but you cant hit every part of it when its bow on. Not to mention, if the Yamato is moving, you will hit other parts too. What was it about looking at other players and how they perform? You think, everyone will hit that bow section everytime regardless if the Yamato is moving forward/backward maybe even wiggling a bit? Thats rediculous. 3. How is that bullcrap? At mid-longrange, slight change in cource will be enough to make the salvo miss entirely. Just play coop, move towards a bot. When he shoots, turn to either side a bit, you will see it miss mostly. Bots have aimbot, they shoot exactly where you will be by the time the shell lands if you dont change speed / course. 4. Once again it shows that you dont know what you are talking about. Smolensk doesnt saturate any bow, it doesnt have 32mm pen on its HE... I dont care if you dont believe a Smolensk or Wooster cant do it. I know they can, you can keep shooting HE. Be my guest, dont improve your gameplay. I dont gain anything be trying to convince you. If you sit next to a BB you cant ricochet the way you are describing. I choose to shoo the Aft in my Mino for a reason. With Smolensk/Wooster, i might have shot the Bow one more time - wouldnt change much. -

Well, they should just say: Everyone gets what they deserve if they manage to win the necessary games. They can track this, the problem is, they most likely wont do it as its way too much work (they would need to check everyone seperately). So they might admit the [edited]up, give some "compensation" for those who play today and be done with it. The chance of getting the rewards you were supposed to is probably somewhere at around 0 -
The other alternative is, you are sitting behind an island, and you dont know you are radared. You leave cover, suddenly you are radared (since you left cover) and are much more vulnerable then before. And most likely "every direction possible" is not really possible, because each team has their own spawn side WG tested radar not going through islands and they didnt like it. So it wont change, better adapt to it.

Radar mino? While true, radar doesnt phisically hurt you. If you are behind an island, getting shot at is quite unlikely if you know how to position yourself.

1. If you dont change course it doesnt matter which direction you are moving, people will still hit you. But regardless of that: If you are bow on, shells will more likely miss compared to being broadside or slightly angled. You cant argue against a bow on BB being a smaller target compared to any other angle. Its not about being able to hit (i could also say "well some people cant hit a broadside BB", which is kinda irrelevant), but about being as small a target as possible. If you are moving diagonal, you open your superstructure being targeted, which is MUCH easier to hit than the bow of a BB. 2.Yes deck of the BOW. The part is extremely small, you cant aim for that. You will hit the water, lower bow, turrets, superstructure and the thicker deck armor guaranteed. For the other part: Well, you are argueing, that HE spammer can hit your bow from the front, sure they can hit the Bow/aft/Superstructure from broadside. Most people will shoot your superstructure anyway, and that wont shatter anything. Shooting HE at a bow-on kremlin is pretty futile tho. Much easier to hit the superstructure if its broadside. 3. Small course changes while being bow on is enough to make most if not all of the salvo miss. Only being stationary while bow on is making you an easy target (still better than being stationary and broadside tho). 4. eh, no? HE spammers have AP aswell. If you think, its better showing broadside to small caliber HE shooters, wait till you meet someone who switches to AP. Wont take long till you angle back in Smolensk/Wooster and others are perfectly fine shooting AP against Broadside ships up to 10km. But thats often a range, you cant be at in those ships, because you can hardly shoot over islands, or you open yourself to being just blapped out of the water by a BB. Smolensk and wooster penetration at 10km. Thats plenty for BBs covered in 32-38mm armor. Better ricochet angles for Mino is mostly irrelevant in that scenario. With worse angles, you just shoot at a different part. Sure, maybe with Mino i had an easier time to shoot the aft like 1 time, but i deliberately shot it because it wasnt saturated. AP hurts more than HE. If you are broadside, you open yourself up to getting AP farmed. -

wow WTF ?!?! needed 1 more storm win for the final rewards, and many in our clan needed a few wins aswell. Good thing its sunday, so we can totaly get an answer from a WG official /s guess its better to still play, might get the rewards or some other compensation for it... -
Yes, everyone has that problem. THats because after rework, WG disabled the LMs for CVs, and havent done anything with those since. Who knows if that will ever change, seeing, other TX ships havent gotten any LM either.

Definetely not something i can support. Played 4 ranked games this season, 3x the enemies had 2 smolensk, while my team had 0. My team won all 3 games. One game enemy had 1 Smolensk and ours none, we lost that. But that wasnt for the Smolensk, it was my team being really bad. Also no. Only in the win, the Smolensk was first in XP (which doesnt matter). And one game, i didnt take a screenshot.

Doesnt matter what range you are at. Being bow on to a target is always being a smaller target. Ofc if you are really close (not a place most Cruisers want to be at btw), you can hit the bow with almost all shells. But even midrange, you will get less hits on the target. Or you hit the turrets... and those ships suited for bowtanking tend to have fairly good armor on the deck aswell (Yamasushi 50-57mm, russian BBs). Also at those ranges, changing your course a little bit while bow on will result in much less hits anyway. Lul, you think, a broadside BB can wiggle enough at closerange to make an HE spammer miss? As i said, at that range, those ships should use AP anyway and just murder a broadside BB. 50 seconds, that guy lost like 110k health while only taking 3 torps. Mino is ofc better suited for that because of the insane reload. But other fast shooting ships can get similiar results (wooster, Smolensk, Colbert, Haru). They will get 5-10k volleys in aswell with AP (depending on distance and how well you can aim). -
Which tiers do you find the most fun to play?
DFens_666 replied to Pivke's topic in General Discussion
Didnt think, one could get that kinda impression from the text i wrote I wouldnt say, i play for stats actually (alltho losing because your team is licking the border, cant kill 1! ship while being 6vs3 is extremely frustrating, naturally i do want to win). Didnt play >500 games Fiji to statpad - it was a lot of fun. Also enjoyed playing T4-5, since its often more relaxing than playing hightiers (dont really care about people calling it sealclubbing). But WG destroyed it with constant 4-6 CV matches, where you cant do anything. The plane stream will never stop, as there i not enough AA to kill those planes ever. One of my last T4 games in Orion, shot down 39 planes vs 3 CVs. Yet, they can still come in with full squads of every type. And thats after they literally killed half my team! T6 is not a tier i particulary liked (as in ever), but with MM changes, i think it got even worse now that you get to see T8 more frequently. T7 was my favourite long time, but same reason as T6, more uptiering makes it much less fun overall. I always hated the whine about T8 being uptiered often vs T10. T8 can somewhat deal with it - T6+7 struggle MUCH more vs T8+9. T8 got a bit better with the MM change. T9-10 often too frustrating by players, that have absolutely no idea how to play the game. <1k battle premium newbs. >10k battle noobs . First has no experience yet, latter cant or wont learn ever.- 50 replies

DFens_666 replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
Thats completely wrong. Even if HE autopens the bow, being bow on is still much better than showing broadside, because you make yourself a smaller target. More area to hit = more hits = more damage. Not to mention, showing broadside in those all-or-nothing-armor BBs can get you slaughtered by small caliber AP. Especially by those guns, which cant pen 32mm like Smolensk and Colbert. My take on a more trade-off version of IFHE always was, that IFHE needs to lower the alpha damage. You can choose, more damage to lightly armored targets (DDs/CLs) or you can get damage on every ship, but less of it. -
Yes, came to that conclusion aswell. DD i killed at 3 minuite mark in his spawn. No way he shot anything. He got the XP for damage received / potential damage (maybe spotting something?)

DFens_666 replied to Pivke's topic in General Discussion
Exactly what i was gonna say.... I dont have a favorite tier anymore. If i play in division, i dont even want to pick a ship anymore. I follow what others pick, which might bring me the most fun.- 50 replies

I look at it this way: - If CVs are getting more XP for what they do (what WG admitted with the XP nerf for hightier CVs), its not balanced = bad - If CVs are getting the same XP for equal tasks compared to other classes, and they get more XP than other classes, then its also not balanced, as clearly they are OVERPERFORMING compared to the others = bad aswell.

Imo you could take Vigilance when playing Smoke mino, since you spot torps earlier. In Radar Mino, i often dont fear that i get torped. And if i radar a DD, i expect him to torp me anyway so i pop Hydro the same time or shortly after. SE is mostly to troll people "Look that retard Mino with SE" The benefits are kinda minor id say: You can heal more (more base HP = more health healed), but you cant really use that benefit overall since you would be dead (i think SE Mino heals roughly 20k with one heal^^) You also get a bit more heal per tick, which might be useful sometimes.

Finally, got a 19 point captain....
DFens_666 replied to Hopeless_Guppy's topic in General Discussion
Id say it depends, if he is playing techtree US BBs or not. If he is not playing them, then going secondary build definetely makes more sense right now. Yes, that makes much more sense. First i used PT, AR, SI, Manual Sec, CE, IFHE on my Massa. Now i switched to PT, AR, SI, Manual Sec, IFHE, AFT. When you reskill, drop PM for PT. Imo PM is rather useless on a BB. EM is kinda down to personal preference i suppose, these days AR is my first 2 pt skill basicly everywhere. Also you should look at how often do you use secondaries. You got 41 in that match, which isnt much. Is it worth using 7 points (BFT&AFT) for getting so little use out of them? Either go full in, or drop it entirely IMO.
