What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Naturally no kills with the Massa... the Siegfried literally stole all of them. Never shot, only when a ship had <2k HP. He almost managed to get 6-7 kills. Camped in the back too, 10/10 player that we need in the game - NOT Kutu game was horror, all our BBs suicided, so being in smoke was actually quite hard, because enemy BBs realized "hey, lets just rush them so they cant shoot without being detected). Barely won on points, because campers dont get the caps and we managed to get 1000 points, with 2 almost dying in the next 30 secs or so. -
As a cruiser/battleship player, how much help do you expect/need from a DD?
DFens_666 replied to quickr's topic in General Discussion
Ive played an unusual (for me that is) amount of 8 games yesterday... my god the DD gameplay ive seen there Let me try to summarize all of them: - Shima hugging the border to the CV, being succesful - Gearing humping the border, then smoking up because got outspotted by YY - Maass killing both Shima and Kagero with torps, then kills a Skane with guns (yes, 2x T7DDs in TX MM) - 3 DDs detonated - Vauquelin rushing the center without LS - Kitakaze ignoring that i rush him with an Alaska, then getting radared. Might be all, ofc i cant tell which happened on the other flank, but those ive seen... pure horror. DDs and BBs - same crap these days. -
What was your weirdest or most awkward/embarrassing way to die in WoWs?
DFens_666 replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
3x division everyone picked Missouri "Lets push the cap hard" *entire enemy team went on our flank* Me dead in like 3 mins Shima torps coming my way while i was unspotted (Hindenburg), but the BB behind me was not. Me thinking, its ok, ill take one in the bow *detonates* -

My Cruisers called, they want their fire chance back from you -
Most of the time, there is not much to be said about a game, which you win, have decent damage AND survive. But some stuff to consider: - When you went to A, look at where your own CV spawned. He spawned at A, so the enemy CV normaly spawns at A aswell. And he was there, so you basicly went to a place, where the CV could spot you. - When you are already spotted by planes, turn on your AA! Especially use sector reinforcement, thats almost a planekill right there. It might not help you since he is not striking you, but it helps your teammates every bit. Later in A cap this happened aswell, when he even popped a fighter next to you. - Always watch out for IJN Cruisers, that are at 10km or closer to you (or your team) being broadside. That means, they often throw torps, and you got really lucky that they run out. Reversing extensive periods of time is not great either, as you stay broadside for long - If you torp a BB, smoking and shooting him is a good way to make him turn away. Didnt matter here, since you torped from behind and they couldnt reach him in the first place. Shooting a ship which you torped only makes sense, if he would dodge your torps in the first place. By shooting him, he might change his course back into your torps. F.e. this can work if you torp a bow-on ship, and you shoot him open water to make him turn and use all his guns, making it more likely to hit torps. - Randomly shooting targets open water is not something i would do. Like the Nelson i B cap. You gained basicly nothing, while getting shot at by SAP! Luckily, he got not much damage in on you. Also taking the fight against the Gorizia should have gotten you killed, but he was too scared to use all his guns for some reason. - Work on your aim, your lead is often not enough, but after that you take too much lead - If you want to keep firing at invisible targets, you have to aim MUCH lower, basicly always waterline to hit them. Otherwise you shoot way too far. Example richelieu, Hipper, Gorizia. Go have a look at the minimap where your aim marker is when a ship goes dark, then you know where your shells land. When you were aiming at the Richelieu, thats where your aim marker is after you lose the lock-on - it goes way beyond his path. - Smoking up in that position was very risky to begin with: You had no idea where the enemy Aki was, as he was last spotted in B like 3 mins ago. Chances were good however, that he was somewhere around you (infact he was later seen near your CV). So high chance to take torps. Also there was a Hipper in B at ~7km. If he carries hydro, he could have easily rushed you since your backup couldnt shoot him. You were lucky he chose to run and die. And your smoke blocked the only way to spot him. Same deal with the Gorizia: He has smoke and 6km hydro. Again lucky for you, that he didnt rush you. But there was actually nothing stopping him from doing it (well maybe his Hydro was on CD, but you cant know that). He only needed to rush in while smoking up, putting hydro on and nothing could stop him easily.

I currently only have it on Massa. US BBs have the longest DCP with 20 secs, so they gain the most from it (+8 sec). I think the major issue is, that the CD is still the game, so it doesnt really do much. The window between getting set on fire and making it into cover is only a few seconds. But if you get one or more fires after that, it doesnt help at all. The only reason, why i use it on Massa, is because she has short CD on the repair party. So i can prolong the immunity time to get my heal ready again. Oh, and it can make sense for CVs, since their DCP is 60 secs active, giving them a DCP of over 1:20 with the upgrade. I think the upgrade would be better, if it would enhance the active time and also reduce the cooldown. Imo then it would make more sense to use it. But the way it is right now, its kinda just a tradeoff, and it actually can harm you aswell.

Just throwing some things out here: Do you want to improve your stats, or improve yourself as a player? Playing ships you are already good in, might not make you that much of a better player, especially when its about ships that are more on the easier side (russian BBs f.e). Being good in all ships is a hard task, and most people wont succeed in that, because you need to know and understand a lot of stuff to make all of them work. Also you need to know when your role changes. Looking at your profile, i spot IJN gunboat DDs. Thats imo a class of DDs, where a lot of people fail because they are focused on sitting in smoke, trying to farm capital ships. Sure you can do it, and those DDs are good at that, but this cant be the focus from the start of the game. Not saying that you do that, but thats something i see a lot from those DDs. They avoid other DDs, and they go onto a flank, smoke up and everything is going dark. Meanwhile, your backup gets pressured by being permaspotted and torped by the enemy DD. As a different example, i played Kiev today, in domination battle. Bad concealment with 7,9km, i cant just go in and pick a fight. But i went close for the cap, see if something enters. Nothing first, so i went in, but got detected soon after by an Östergötland. Luckily i had a Radar Cruiser with me, who radared the DDs (was 2 actually). I jumped immediately on the one who had no way out anymore and we got him killed. This already gave me more freedom in movement without the fear of being permaspotted. Because if the DDs are gone, it makes my life much easier. I could have ignored the cap ofc and went to the border to harass some BBs. But that would have left the center vulnerable for my team to be torped by enemy DDs. One other thing i saw, your survival rate is kinda low. If you are dead, you cant influence the game anymore, thus you should work on that one. Dont die needlessly. Its not easy to find the right path between too passive and too aggressive. I always like to go for early game impact. That can already make a difference how the ships on your flank behave. If you kill a DD early on, you might force his teammates to retreat, thus giving your team a cap to get. Or by killing a Radar Cruiser, you help your DDs to move more freely. In 8 games today, i got 2 first bloods alone. 3rd was close, but my Smolensk beat me to it by suiciding into the enemies right from the get go And another one was also fairly close, but there my friendly DD got the kill which i left standing with 127 HP

Same game ofc Should keep this at hand the next time someone claims "BBs DoNt HaVe To ShOot DDs" When you wonder, what your team is doing, when you basicly have to solo kill 2 ships on your flank, and everything is at full health aswell (Kita + CM) Took the screenshot of the CM, because he was sitting there broadside for some time, while my BBs ignored him. My BBs actually kept shooting the smokecloud because why not? Also citadelled a Bismarck through his bow, because 25° is not angled against 'Murican AP Getting called "g4y camper kid" by your teammates... hmm 65km sailed, something doesnt add up there. I pretty much was in the enemy spawn in the end, after going through the center. Interestingly, the one calling me that, was the one driving up the 1-line while he spawned center. Since we had no caps and no ships in the center, i had to relocate there and try to push through. Btw, the Maass killed 3 of our DDs: 2 torpkills on Shima and Kagero, and he gunned down the Skane -
Should battleships be able to citadel cruisers?
DFens_666 replied to mil71's topic in General Discussion
Well the difference is, Yamato can overmatch itself bow to stern (atleast on the side). Compared to russian BBs, which are partially immune to bow overmatch, and entirely? immune to midsection overmatch. Agreed, germans are the same, but bowtanking german BBs are pretty much retarded, as they almost always lose half their firepower, with the exception of Gneisenau and Scharnhorst. While russians only lose 33% from T7 to T10. Izmail cant get away with it at all, and it can get punished while using all its guns. Richelieu bowtanking against a Yamato is just asking for it. -
Should battleships be able to citadel cruisers?
DFens_666 replied to mil71's topic in General Discussion
I think being able to bowtank BBs is not a good addition. It makes really stale gameplay, encourages BBs to shoot HE and naturally Cruisers would out-DPM BBs that way. WG went the wrong way with the plating change imo: They buffed the deck for some Cruisers, while leaving the upper belt as it is (25 side / 27 deck f.e.). That means, if you are angled, you will get overmatched. If you are bow on, you get overmatched there while being able to bounce the deck, so either way, you can get punished. I think proper angling should be rewarded. Sitting bow on is retarded (same goes for BBs btw, thats one reason for this camping BB meta). You dont need skill to sit bow on and not get punished. -
Should battleships be able to citadel cruisers?
DFens_666 replied to mil71's topic in General Discussion
Most likely not without making them OP. BB players tend to pick BBs, because they recognize them (Bismarck, Tirpitz, Yamato...) and big guns = big boom. Ofc the game would benefit a lot when Cruisers would be the most numerous class, but thats not gonna happen. Lately, even CCs and Youtubers have been complaining about how weak BBs are (which is a total joke ofc), because they fail to see, their BBs being so deadly forces Cruisers to play in a way, that they cant get shot at, or atleast not hit that easily i.e. camping at islands or kiting at maxrange. Their solution is to make BBs stronger / weaken Cruisers -

Ask the Myogi, i think he survived like 3-4 minutes - Came in dropped him - Came back dropped him again. - @ForlornSailor started a fire, he DCPed - He started 3 permafires upon my spotting - 3rd time i attacked his flank he was dead already -

Should battleships be able to citadel cruisers?
DFens_666 replied to mil71's topic in General Discussion
The only thing i see would be useful, is to scale the maximum damage a shell can deal based on the ship it hits. Not like currently where shell a deals x amount of damage. I think balancing could be much better done, and you wouldnt artificially need to protect certain ships so much from being citadelled in the first place. You could lower the amount a shell can deal f.e. a Shikishima citadels a minotaur is less damage than on a Stalingrad and less damage than on a Yamato. Imo all ships should have accessable citadels, and with damage received being tied to a ship, this could easily be accomplished. Because misplays should be punished, and currently it can be a joke at times. -
How about everyone can decide this for their own? Not to mention, people with bad eyesight are at a disadvantage...

Ofc it is, when you claim the majority is complaining about CVs when they solo rush a flank with their GK (BB). Also can hardly see that as a joke if you write it like that...
-
CVs encourage camping in spawn / in blobs CVs can always spot you, also if you are in cover when shooting your guns. Just to name 2 major issues with CVs, and most of the time its not their damage dealing capability in the first place. Few exceptions ofc, like AP rockets and AP bombs, Enterprise, FDR or MvR in particular.
-
Why do you have more right to throw your torps (which are a minor part of your armament btw) than a DD trying to play the game closer to the frontline than you, because he needs to spot for his teammates, doesnt have the gunrange and also not even the torprange you have? People demanding that they should dodge friendly torps often ignore, that they might open themselves up to enemy fire by trying to dodge your torps. If i have to choose between taking a friendly torp, or getting severe damage from enemies, ill always take the friendly torp. Im not gifting enemies damage because someone torps my path.

Deepwater Torpedoes and Submarines... heres a question
DFens_666 replied to Varian_Dorn's topic in General Discussion
Id assume WG coded it in a way, that no matter where the sub is, a DWT will never hit it. Basicly its incapable of hitting one in the first place. -
First i thought, lets not derail this CV thread, but then i changed my mind: Let it have some use afterall NC seems to be rather accurate most of the time, while Iowa (or Missouri too), tend to be extremely derpy at times. You might get a godlike devstrike at 20km, next time you get 2 overpens on a broadside Cruiser at 12km. Didnt really have that with NC. Infact, i had much better avg damage with NC, but then i got several roflstomp wins in a row and my avg damage fell behind the T9s Massa-choochoo confirmed OP, its T9

DFens_666 replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
You seem to assume, this happens deliberately - which it doesnt. The problem is the playerbase. How should the MM know, which player does stupid things? Lets look at your Hindenburg and the enemy GK: They are essentially the same, when it comes to dealing damage. GK is probably even worse, as BBs deal more avg damage than Cruisers. Yet, here we are, that the enemy GK carried his team, with 3 kills and 700 more baseXP than the 2nd. But he doesnt know what he is doing, he has <700 battles played. He just got extremely lucky, because the majority of people are like those guys. And sometimes, they get lucky. Next time you have him on your side, he might be a Montana, earning 300 XP His montana stats as reference. The hindenburg is a noob, who has no clue what he is doing. The GK aint much better, as he is inexperienced, and he got away with it this game. Infact, maybe that was his record game with 170k damage in his GK, who knows. But that doesnt change that he is not a good player. So how should MM recognize, when that player will do something stupid, and when he will get away with it? You can rush in 10 times, fail 8 of it and 2 times you get a nice game because enemies are stupid and show perfect broadside only to get devstruck. -
Im always in favour for buffing Marblehead To not go completely OT: I couldnt be bothered to actually grind Kansas... way too much grinding for basicly no gain at all. Easier to just play 2-3 games Colorado in Narai if id want it later on. And then there is still the issue with playing Kansas... which i dont want either
