Well, yes to some degree. Not only tho, and not really about this game only. Izumo has more pen till ~14km than Yamato, even tho it has smaller shells. Yamato has also slower shells than Izumo. Why shouldnt you have more penetration, if you throw a projectile with higher speed at something?

Still 1 patch in between, so almost 2 months (3 weeks till next patch, and then 4 but i assume actually 5 weeks to the patch after. 0.9.11 is now 0.9.12 next 0.10.0 is captain skill rework

You actually dont overpen the entire ship. Blue line = water level Roon citadel is water level. The slope at the side is the turtleback. You hit that at a flat angle, you ricochet off. If you hit the citadel deck, same thing. I have no idea where to the shell actually ricochets, as it should arm by hitting the belt armor. But it seems to exit before it detonates, so i assume it ricochets upwards out of the ship. When you hit the citadel deck, you might bypass the belt armor, and only hit the thinner upper belt, which wont even arm your shells in the first place. You dont go through the ship at all, nor do you exit below the waterline. Overpenning the citadel of a ship is rather rare. It does happen for 2 reasons: - Armor is not thick enough to arm the shell in the first place, f.e. Smolensk against >430mm caliber BBs, but also Nürnberg against >356mm caliber. - Shell doesnt detonate inside the ship, because shell is too fast (Kronshtadt vs Cruisers) or ship is too thin (Atlanta / Smolensk). Most likely cause is not actually hitting the citadel in the first place, and you hit the thin upper belt which only has like 25-32mm, which doesnt arm a shell from a BB. German BBs eat so much pen damage, because their upper belt is also thick, thus it arms BB shells. Compared to something like Montana, which has 38mm and BB shells will just fly through without arming.

Does buffing CVs with captain skill rework count?

The problem is, Roon cant punish you when you broadside (atleast not with guns) and if Riga would broadside a BB, it would just pop because it has a citadel. That would be like saying, BBs are immune to citadels (germans) and have a superheal (conq) at the same time. Its not true, and neither is what you claim. Only because 2 different cruisers have different treats doesnt mean, that all have all treats. When Roon is angled, you can get pens dealing good damage (or even cits through bow/stern) and if its far away, you will get cits. When Riga is angled, you wont do too much to it.

I think it was OP even with autodrop... You just needed to adjust the drop, so it came in from an angle behind the ship. Ships that turned in actually took more torps

Giving CVs special MM wont work because of divisions. If a T8 CV can only see T7 or T9, it means a ship in the division would get the same bonus, thus T8 ship could avoid T10 MM by divisioning with a CV. They couldnt be "thrown under the bus", only if there is a 2nd division doing the same. So wont work, either everyone gets +/-1 MM or noone. As to which tier CVs are balanced/OP: - T4 most OP, thanks to Hosho and ships dont have AA really - T6 most "balanced", because they have +1/-2 MM and overall slightly less devastating. - T8 kinda OP, arguably most OP CV is on T8: Enterprise. Arguably, because FDR and MvR might actually be more broken, but maybe not so OP overall, because Enterprise is strong agains any type of ship. - T10 pretty much also OP. UK CVs are more "balanced" compared to others. TX CVs are the tankiest ships in game. Getting closer towards a CV also means, he will strike you more often. T4-8 CVs are easier to damage, as they dont have as much armor. CVs have too much survivability as it is, all others are somewhere between 25-50%, CVs are >75%. Or CVs are pretty much just easy mode compared to other classes...? You outdamage a T8 BB with your T4 CV

Well, 0.9.11 is here but I don't see no Flint... do you?

Ofc part of my playstyle was based upon the CV helping me. I knew we would eventually outtrade them. Without CV, i probably would have camped more at an island to bait them coming closer to me, and in brawling range id get the upper hand 1by1.

Actually yes? Since DDs have lowest average damage, they hardly ever kill anything from full health - atleast on average. Sure it does happen occasionally, but then you get 3-4 games where you will only get 1 torp hit per target. My last Gearing game, not much devstrike potential there. 2 on Thunderer, 1 each on Iowa, Richelieu and Yamato. Going closer was prevented by both Halland and Lightning playing together + the CV also flying attacks on my side. He didnt go for me directly tho, lucky me. I agree on midtiers its a bit easier to devstrike ships, because you have to get closer (and you can because no or less radar, and smaller maps), so its easier to hit all torps on a 20kt BB. While on hightiers with longer range torps, the spread becomes so wide you wont even hit all torps any longer, and you would need to hit them so you can devstrike that BB. For a midtier BB you probably need like 3-4 torps, Yamato can survive 8.

Get Coal out of the game?

Spotted by CV - then detonated to my shells

I guess it comes later, let people grab Neustra first because its way less popular (only 500 on EU server)

Interestingly i played Yamato few days ago, and it showed like >20sec shell travel time at 20 something km... Probably something wrong with 460mm guns, havent seen this with any other ship so far.

I think the only way to keep this concept, is by removing the core issue of trading planes for damage. Changes either way will result in CVs being more dominent (less AA) or CVs being shut down (more AA). So the only way left is make it harder for CVs to be able to deal damage. We need the panic effect of DefAA return somehow. Blob of ships should lower the damage they receive, currently all it does is shut a certain amount of CVs down entirely, while others can still get the same damage in. Only they trade some planes for that damage, which can be a good trade. Longrange AA is so pathetic, you cant help other ships with AA, so we can forget about that. I think i wrote it once before, blob of ships should disturb the planes, so the reticle wont be as accurate anymore. That would actually help against ANY CV player. Even removing or lowering extra damage from DefAA and trade it for panic effect might actually be worth it. Shooting down 1 or 2 more planes but receving 25k citadel damage doesnt mean anything for my Cruiser.

All on my (Kremlin) flank. 3 vs 1 BB, they couldnt kill me. I just had to sit there and hold it, while dismantling them together with my CV. And they pushed in actually, they pushed within 10km of me while i was basicly in spawn.

I really dont think, WG could pull it off without [edited]it up really bad. The issue i see is, that it should be better than automatic AA, naturally, since i have to do something myself. So what happens if a CV strikes a group of ships and they all use it? he will just die instantly, and WG wont do that... this means, individual AA still needs to be rather bad to compensate for this. Also the question is, how well could the CV dodge manual AA? If its still possible, then it might still not do anything against very good CV players, while absolutely murdering bad CV players (essentially the same as now) So what might happen - Automatic AA gets nerfed into the ground - Manual AA is slightly better than current AA, because everything else goes against WGs glorious rework concept. In the end, it could turn out even worse than current system. Sure, if the CV attacks you 1 minute into the game he might not be able to do much. But if Cruisers and DDs are engaged in a fight, they probably wont have much chance to use their AA. Contrary to BBs, which have a nice window of 30 secs to use AA while guns reload.
-
You need to be turned before you shoot (or before you are spotted for that matter). If you turn while being spotted, its the easiest shot to take for a BB, and only RNG will help you.

the weekly operations missions not fun at all
DFens_666 replied to goodnames_gone's topic in General Discussion
Thats actually the issue. I used to play OPs all the time back in the days, mostly alone. Player skill deterioted over time, stopped playing solo and switched to divs because it was impossible to carry them all, as you had too many players who simply didnt participate in the battle. Then WG butchered rewards, and i basicly havent played T6 Ops since. I actually tried Aegis just recently, and it was complete shitshow. The OPs arent too strong, its just the playerbase is so bad, that they just fail all the time. Its the same thing everywhere, they simply do not play the game. WG managed to [edited]off the core playerbase, who actually played the game, and replaced them by morons, who have no interest to play properly. If you want to have any chance, i suggest playing Leander, as its the best carry boat in the OP. Smoke, heal and torps. That was my standard routine for Leander gameplay, is the waves spawned in that order. But doesnt really matter, if they spawn vice versa, just switch the sides. 1. wave dont use smoke, use the island to shoot their broadside. Also dont waste torps, all ships have little HP and can be killed easily with Leander. 2. Wave should use smoke to kill the DDs and Cruiser, torp and farm the BBs. 3. Wave again smoke up and farm the broadsides. If the DDs slip through, rush ahead and kill them from the side -. If the CV spawns close to you, ofc help it. Otherwise dont bother moving over, you jeopardize more by trying to save it. 4. Try to torp the whatever is on your side (Bayern/Yorck or König/Myoko). Smoke up to let them get close so you are guaranteed to hit them. Can try to focus the DDs before the Izumo. Then just torp the Izumo and try to stay in cover while shooting him. You should expect to get close to 200k damage if you want to have a chance at 5 stars (old picture). Most of the time you probably still fail because of the incompetent teammates. Yes, the bots are rather accurate, but that also means, you have a good chance at dodging their fire. -

DFens_666 replied to goodnames_gone's topic in General Discussion
Camping in the harbour means losing. Its not a hard Operation, but majority of players just want to sit back. You have to be semi-aggressive and shoot the ships in the broadside before they get too close so they sink in time before the next wave. Also, on that screen, 2 DDs and a CV is probably a bad (unlucky) setup. Best ships in that OP are Cruisers thanks to the firepower and generally thin armor of enemy ships, which BBs often just overpen. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
DFens_666 replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
I guess its a division thing. The more division you play, the less likely it is to get 300k+ games. Took me almost 2 years to go from 275k with Hindi to get 307k with Yamato. And some of those potato games must be server crashes - i dont believe anything else... -
