Well Yahagi sure as hell aint tanking cruiser - no armor... Sure as hell aint island hugger - to flat a trajectorie for lobbing... She aint a real ambusher either since 10km detection and low ROF with 6" guns and slow torps with bad angles sure as hell wont blow away a target before it retaliates... So either you kite with her or not use her, she doesnt have much of an armor (most T5 crusers are similar) but she has quite a low citadel overall and engine booster that enables her to change speed quite decently and outrun most of the stuff that can hurt her badly so - approach, turn in stealth, drop fish while turning, kite away and plonk some HE at the jack following you...

God that explaines all those treehugers in high tiers...

Yep, had more then one instance of the unexplicable nosediving salvos completely random and not reproducible, usually one sometimes up to 3-4 in row esp if you aim for the waterline...

If you like cruiser guns like reload go for Sharnhorst with its 20s reload its the fastest beside Republic with the LU, also french line in general offers the speed for flanking and kiting as well as having relatively lower caliber guns (exept Republic) and Amagi/Kii/Ashitaka have good kiting layout (prefer the rear gun angles) same as Izmael on russian line, IF you want heavy HE usage go for RN line aldough the french can start fires well enough as any other BB really...

Well did one fight yesterday and I fund it OK, torps have narrow angles yes BUT the launchers are centerline mounted meaning you can dump 8 pieces of those 12km fish on the single side of the ship and then kite in or (usually) out burning the targets on the way, works fine for the price she cost, she wont be my most played cruiser for sure but not the least played either...

If we look at the ships in game and overall length of service as well as combat they have seen I guess (and this is not a national bias as I am obvuously not a brit) would probabbly be - Warspite

You should see most of the targets way before their flak comes to play and already know what you want to strike, also MM shows enough info on that as well when big enough to read... Also, you are in the 130+kt planes, they are in 30kt ships hence you dictate the terms of engagement, sometimes it pays off to peel off and adjust your angle of attack, they CANNOT outmaneuver you due to speed difference and if you really want to hammer them you will get the angle on them to do it sooner or later, whatever turning and wiggling they might try only few dds have even the slightest chance of annoying you seriously in this regard... Last but not least, its tempting to zoom in max speed with boost all the time, but you need to learn self control 10, 15 or 20 s of longer flight time might save you half the wing, you should keep in mind that you will wait for 5 or more minutes to recover those planes if you lose them in a stupid and unnecessary way...

@OP Ark Royal - cheaper, slower planes will be easyer to aim with for a rookie, lower tier so less AA monsters in MM spread and most important - you can take them to weekly scenarios and practice dropping on bots with a decent xp/cash turnover per match untill you are ready for randoms...

I was not talking about survivability aspects, also yes Huang has bad DPM compared to most of the other T6 CLs that have more guns then her but she still does ok and Yahagi does not suffer in real HE DPM compared to other T5 cruisers except omaha (and clones) that does a whopping 44000 HE DPM with a broadside of 8 guns but the rest of T5 cruisers lag behind her even more... Well actually the long torps are area denial weapons more then beeing meant to deal that much damage in itself the IJN incresed HE shell damage and fire chance are more of the reason they debuff them in other aspects IMHO as the torps come into play every now and then but improved HE in every fight...

In the light of the current lowtier situation an all I say we need to have a premium Bouge at T4 for US and RN lines carrying 6/6/6 (9/9/9) double dropping per run loadouts with Wildcats/Avengers and Seafires/Swordfish respectively, AP bombs ofc...

@Vbeest True, but then again 6 gun Huang works out quite ok damage wise, ok she has russian barrels and a tad better reload but since she is also at T6 it should be roughly comparable, actually when you do the math Yahagi dishes out around 34600 HE DPM (real dpm meaning calculated with 1/3 of max damage per shell value since you will hardly cit much with 6" he shells) while say Emil Bertin does some 30500 HE DPM for comparison and Exeter does 22800 HE DPM aldough she pens some more armor since she is 8"

Actually since most weeklys and directives are are T5+ I would say its other way around, besides 6 guns are more then 4 guns and she has better range and she has double the torp... I would grade her to have much more true utility for everyday use but I will see how it pans out IRL, one way or another playing T4 or below ship of any kind seems rather pointles most of the time...
