Developing competitive scene doesnt bring quick cash and hence WG is not really interested in it, besides all the games except WOT are only there as cash cows for WG anyways...

Honestly some tournament formats I find boring as F, others are really nice to watch and rather dynamic, I can appreciate the subtalties of the tactics though so they can be instructional to watch from time to time... Also chess comparison is kinda spot on, you can play a safe game waiting for positions to unfold, you can try to go in aggressive to try to brute force your way through albeit at a risk OR you can play for psychological factor trying to set a trap you expect the enemy to take and if he does you annihilate him all of those require a sound plan and competent execution of it though and since RNG is a factor in the game even a flawless execution can still fall short...

Honestly its kinda hard to tell, I ll have to try it out to see, in theory it should result in less stress during ranked after a while (ie 5-6 seasons) when people distribute through the leagues but we shall see how it pans out IRL...

She is a very strong pick for competitive where the teams are well organised because she provides spotting on demand that enables the rest of the team to focus a target and take it out (usually enemy DD) while remaining hidden herself unlike most radar cruisers that are very much visible while they are closing in for the radar range, few of those that are not (can stealth radar) are either insanely weak for their tier (ie one salvo of a BB can take them out regardless of aiming) or the radar lasts very shortly and doesnt really allow for much shooting time... Same goes for Black and Orkan, same to a degree goes for radar capable pan-eu DDs although the fact they cant torp other DDs and their guns have been nerfed lessens their impact somewhat compared to aforementioned...

This thing with Smaland is purely a Christmas/End of Year bonus for the management thing, nothing more and nothing less then that, pure and simple this entire year is a corona riddled mess and WG is no exception to it however the brass kinda depends on the EOYB check for the more or less luxurious stuff they have a habit of allowing themselves this time of the year, as we all do to a degree OFC, honestly I dont think they actually thought through the Smaland design and although we warned them about what this ship will become - they as usually didnt listen, now that Smaland is a competitive "no brainer" pick there is an option to cash in the bonus as well as to say "look, we care for balance and diversity", yeah - no they dont, otherwise they would have not made ships that are no brainer picks and maintained them in the game in the first place... Btw official reason is BS as I play loads of T10 and I dont even remember when I last saw a Smaland there so she is sure AF not that prevalent to be removed so abruptly, its a cash grab plain and simple and I am not touching that with a 10 foot pole...

Its reasonably clear he meant elite ship xp to free xp, however although I am pretty big spender and did some conversions in the past there is no way I am supporting this BS WG puled off here, I vividly remember a sentence used on stream when asked about the 2 mil freexp tag - "we added these ships as long term goals for players", yeah right ship will be in game for what 9 months or so before removal date...

Dont, Smaland is not worth it and WG shady practices should not get reinforced...

@OP Take a RN BB for instance Thunder or Nelson (depending what tier you need) or if you need it to be a cruiser IJN or French, anyways RN BBs are best suited for it esp T10 ones, you just pick a positon for decent firing line on several enemy BBs and fire HE on them until one of them uses DCP and then you light them on fire again, you dont want to do 2 much direct damage as fire needs to burn for a while, ofc your team might just kill the target 2 fast or steal the kill but not much you can do there... Alternate option is a CV with strong HE bombs that you can use to fly deep into the enemy backround and find a target that will only be yours but you will likely get salt and reports for that... If it has to be german ship IDK, I guess Nurnberg or Sharnhorst can be used to a degree, Hindi can as well but you will have a harder time with her doing it in T10 then say with Zao or Yoshino...

Give her 17km range with german HE pen and slightly buffed fire chance and a crawler smoke and she ll do fine as T5 even with 10s reload

Issue with both Kanzas and Minnesota is that they are inconsistent in dealing damage, that might be ok if the ships were reasonably fast and durable such as say germans are so you can offset the inconsistency with endurance and positioning but the way they are now they are slow xp pinyatas for the enemy team, sure occasionally you get a devstrike salvo in, however other BBs get that as well and without being 21-22kt barges in T10 MM, enemy HE spammers dont even need to be esp competent to farm you to death within minutes...
