According to some folks, you just need to git gud and get broadsides, apparently it works that way.

New monitor....why can't I hit anything?
walter3kurtz replied to BrettMRC's topic in General Discussion
They are, but I never used this method after the early days when I was a noob trying to learn BB's. Aiming should be automatic. What resolution and aspect ratio? New monitor resolution can throw you off, because everything seems smaller. I suggest practice with fast firing ships like cruisers so that you can get your aim back. Also install the Navigator mod from Aslains mod pack, it helps you determine how the enemy is angled and if he is turning or not. What also helps is firing your BB turrets one by one so you get a bit more feel for how far your aim is off. -
Is there something strange/wrong with "Arsenal" prices: "Musashi" = 176.000 coal = 275 "Equal Speed Charlie London" ?
walter3kurtz replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I don't know how WeeGee could ever come up with such incredible injustice. -
People would start bot grinding on a whole new level if personal sharing of resources is allowed.

So I got about 25k coal for the oil that took me the better part of a year to grind. Worth about 40 ESCL flags. Seems legit. -
What is the stupidest thing you did today?
walter3kurtz replied to piritskenyer's topic in General Discussion
Smoked up in my Udaloi because I wanted to farm a Lyon that I just torped. We lost spotting and this move cost us the game. Noob DD report pls -
How much Coal & Steel did you get in your Arsenal with new patch v0.7.6 ?
walter3kurtz replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I just noticed 20 ESCL flags cost 12k coal. Really, WG? -
This has been discussed to death, but a lot of good DD players will disagree. It's just not like in low to mid tiers where you can just sail into any cap, smoke up and be safe. You have to bait the radar, know where and when the radar ships can appear, and work with your team (yeah, I know, get a division) to get them killed. If you don't like high tier solo play just play mid tier and you'll see a lot less radar. But don't complain that high tier DD are unplayable because it's just not true.

Surprising to me really. Never met any one who said oh joy, a cyclone. Never heard any of the popular streamers talk favorably about cyclones either.

RU DD's depend on guns 95%, using the pathetic range torps for a suicide run smells like desperation instead of smart play. You're giving up 75% or more of your HP for a possible kill on 1 ship (if he is alone which is probably not the case). I could normally take 75% of an enemy ship without losing 10% HP myself. Yes you *can* make *something* work but you don't need to explain that to me. Cruisers suffer from the same problem. BB's suffer from the fact that they are no longer able to support and they lose a good chunk of the range where they are still accurate enough for dev strikes. If you play a BB well, you position where you can cover large parts of the caps and get broadsides on enemies pushing. Now you're just a big fat cow waiting for close up action. HE spam is not an issue without cyclones, if you get farmed by multiple cruisers you are in the wrong spot. LOL ok. tell me something I don't know. Point is, with information available being halved or worse, "bad" positing because influenced by guessing and luck. This takes away the awareness advantage you have over others in normal situations. How are you spotting past 8km? Minimap is sketchy, maybe bugged for CV especially then. For the rest you're again using an argument that is unconvincing. Yes the better player is more likely to come out victorious, but that's not the point. The point is that the better player loses a lot of the tools normally available (range, concealment, shooting over islands, supporting allies against targets beyond 8km, map awareness (decreased information) and not rushing in like a headless chicken). What do you mean, not enter a fair fight? The whole point is that you are forced to take an unfair fight because the game says you cannot use the usual strengths for the ship anymore. Yeah, you go and "flick" into detection radius for a salvo or two. Seems really effective. Oh so now suddenly cruisers are at an advantage? Look, the fact that a cruiser *could* in theory get some advantage is not important. What matters is that you either have to capitalize on some unlikely scenario of getting broadsides and hope there are no full health BB or other ships around, or do [edited] all. You lost your long range capabilities and now you're hoping for a lucky break. It seems like you can't make up your mind. So RU DD's can totally rush in for a torp run, but at the same time no BB is in danger and every long range cruiser is able to get broadsides but cannot deal with any BB. You're all over the place man. What you are doing is summing up theoretical chances that any class could capitalize on a cyclone, which is just not relevant to the fact that cyclones pigeon hole you into a make or break situation.

Sure brawling is a tactic, but not a viable one for RU DD's, all long range cruisers, BB with bad turret traverse and turning radius, and so on. Also when there's only one possibility, you can hardly call it tactics. You're just rolling with the punches and see what remains for you in the end. If you're in an unsuitable ship, well bad luck the game just decided that the other team should probably win. Judt to add, I don't feel I'm necessarily at an advantage in a BB. You lose 5km of the range in which you are normally totally deadly. It equalizes the skill difference that you could normally put to work by utilizing minimmap, concealment, range, planning 5 steps ahead etc. When a cyclone hits you are suddenly someone that doesn't look further than the 8km that you happen to see right in front of you (aka potato vision). There is hardly any way for a smart player to use a cyclone to his advantage (outside of knowing you're in a brawler ship against a non brawler and you just abuse that coincidental advantage). Ah, I didn't really notice many threads on the subject but I'm sure there must be indeed.

I have 3 (or even 4?) of those. Same for the smoke mod. Maybe i should get a Perth (or 3).

Needs poll? 25k coal and 5k steel -
How is this unfair market practice? Not everyone plays CB by the way. Many people befit from a discount. You should've been able to put two and two together and wait with respec until CB season starts.

Is there ever a point to using AP over HE as a BB?
walter3kurtz replied to PanzerThuran's topic in General Discussion
Using AP against BB takes practice, waiting until you get a good shot on a turning target can make the difference between a 5k and a 50k salvo. If the BB is steadily sitting towards or away from you in an angle, shoot the superstructure or the guns to disable them. On BB it can sometimes be necessary to aim at the higher half between waterline and deck when they present some broadside. The armor is thinner in this area. Learn to use the guns on the ship you are currently grinding and learn the armor values of your main BB opponents. For cruisers it's not that complicated and citadel hits are your only goal. As a rule of thumb use AP regardless of angle against cruisers. Overpens will happen on broadsides, depending on your aim. That is why waterline aim is important (but you run the risk that your target turns out slightly and all shells fall short). Getting good with BB AP also requires you to play in the optimal engagement ranges, where dispersion has less chance to troll you but you still have room to disengage and avoid torpedoes etc. Do not use HE only. It's a terrible strategy unless you are in a Brit BB. But even then you want to use AP on broadsiding targets. EDIT: also I see that you are only up to tier 5 currently, while Kongo is a good ship, it faces a lot of tier 7 and can have problems penning BB. Low tier BB's also generally have bad accuracy so even though you do everything right, you might get nothing to show for it. Low tier also has a lot of broadsiding cruisers though, so not all bad news, and these are your main prey. -
Hood VS Nelson VS Warspite, Captain trainer!
walter3kurtz replied to Hannibalurg's topic in General Discussion
With mid tier premiums it's not s much which is the "better" trainer, if you want to grind elite or free XP you're better off playing high tier anyway. So rather it's a question of which ship you like, I can vouch for Warspite being good fun. Hood has trolly guns so I would personally not buy that. Nelson seems good but it gets played by better players on average. -
I think it would easily be over 9000%

Don't know, the extra hydro time allows you to comfortably sail into an area with hydro on and not worry about wasting half your action time. I couldn't go without the mod on my LoYang.

Graf Spee owners - hints and tips, please.
walter3kurtz replied to Pametrada's topic in General Discussion
You need to get more feeling for cruiser play in general I think, like others mentioned too. What you could try: 1. watch Flamu on Youtube play cruisers (especially mid tier of the lines you are playing) 2. stop trying to push early but be in the second line, positioned in such a way that you can fire while angled away from the enemy 3. stay near island cover so you can disengage when things get dangerous 4. watch your concealment range and use it, stop firing so that you go unseen after 20 seconds if you take too much fire 5. and most importantly, try to create an opportunity to shell over islands remaining unseen. Get the island in between you and the enemy and farm free damage -
We're going to use tactics and cruisers the likes of which the world has never seen.
-
It actually is amazing how often this happens, bonus points if they form a blob behind the same island. Being in winning position is the signal for rushing in to save their average damage, blame stats for this kind of behavior. By the way quality humor post OP. The usual troll posts on these forums are boring as hell.

Why using oil as a gauge to determine how much coal/steel a player should get is quite a poor method & strategy.
walter3kurtz replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
I meant coal only, my bad. You are right, but you can also get it from previous rank 1 (if you didn't end exactly at Flint or Black). -

walter3kurtz replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
WG at some point hinted that it's tied to being in a clan though. Not very clear but not out of bad will but because they were still developing this whole new idea, I suppose. Luckily for you it turns out you can earn coal and steel without a clan, simply by opening containers and playing the right modes and missions. You just miss out on the initial amount converted from oil for some reason. I get why you feel left out and WG hasn't made it clear from the start that oil would give you a coal and steel head start, but it's not like you don't get a second shot at something unique. You just don't get the initial bonus that others receive. I don't find your argument that OP couldn't find a suitable clan convincing, there are hundreds of oil farming clans, with a number of them actively recruiting on the forums. I run one too, feel free to apply in game and I will accept you.
