I'm 100% convinced this season brings the worst I've ever seen. It's a good thing the weather is too nice to grind to rank 1 again, I'm calling it quits. I usually enjoy the challenge of ranked even if you can pull your hair out sometimes.

1800 BXP on a loss, it it wasn't so sad I would be happy

http://shipcomrade.com/captcalc/1100000000000011011001000000000119 AFT is a waste IMO unless you find yourself using guns more than torps, which you shouldn't. Fletcher is a torp boat. I use SI over BFT because of the extra smoke, but that may be obsolete in todays meta

I've used the short range torps for a long time and with good results. The problem is though that as soon as you get dropped into a tier 10 match, standard battle open map, radar everywhere etc. you suddenly have no damage potential at all. Think of it like this, when you have the room to sneak up to an enemy for shotgun style, you can get the kill with the weak torpedoes too. You have 10 of them. While the reverse is not true, you do not have the option to fire the short ranged torps at targets beyond 6,7km obviously. Weak as they may be, it's better to have a chance on some hits / flooding than to have nothing at all. I found that the only thing the short range torps are better for is knife fighting a DD, but you can just use smoke + hydro in most cases. So all in all, after about 130 games, I've gone back to the long range torps even though they do suck.

Funny and sad game situations shown with map screenshots.

Probably just a Takao, you see it as an Atago without camo if you have ARP stuff disabled. -
Season 9 Tier 10 - Why am I so bad?
walter3kurtz replied to Up_The_Donald's topic in General Discussion
That is how ranked works When you are on a loss streak, say 3 losses in a row, it's best to stop and return a day later. Not only because you are clearly not on top of your game and/or getting tilted, but also because the queue is apparently filled with idiots. -
All it took was just one battle

LOL? How can 1 game tilt you so much? If you want a perfect RNG-free game go play chess or something. -
Buyer's Remorse - Asashio edition **BUY HAREKAZE INSTEAD**

Seriously though, this dude played 72 battles in LoYang with terrible results and now buys Asashio and has similar results. I see a pattern emerging. -

Asashio. The end of teamplay in Random and Ranked
walter3kurtz replied to ClappingLollies's topic in General Discussion
All averages are significantly better not just damage. I doubt the stats will take a huge dive but we'll see. The thing is, Asashio has the potential to do easy 200k games (as shown by Flambass and others) and scare an entire flank - meaning more wins, caps and XP too - mixed with 0 damage games. So simply torp boat to the extreme. That is not a weakness it just means it's inconsistent. That makes these early stats more impressive not less. LoYang has pitiful averages (not only damage in case you didn't notice) because it was really mediocre for years (pre hydro buff) and potatoes had a lot of time to drag the averages down. We do see average LoYang damage on the rise recently, showing that it was indeed a pretty bad ship before. https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/100270-comparison-of-statistics-for-all-ships-all-time-data-vs-last-week-data/ It's not the most freaking OP tier 8 DD either. -

So a cruiser meta, that is a first. And I don't really see how that is negative at all. I will be playing Gearing and provide spotting and smoke for my team and use the long range torps. Capping will be tough and mean you are pinned behind that one island where people still chip HP away from you because most islands don't provide complete cover. It's probably best to not cap right away.

There is "stuck" and then there is "stuck" As long as you can move out in one direction it's fine, but once in a few hundred battles you might get really stuck. Sometimes you can't even get out anymore

While I find it easy to roflstomp in CV's up to tier 7, tier 8 was pretty hard for me. While the Shokaku has a good reputation I found many games unplayable (or no fun) because of the massive increase in AA. Now at Taiho things are looking a lot better again. This is however the point where you start running into tryhard divisions with AA ships but that can be played around. So all in all, why do people not play CV? I think it's mostly because the difficulty / type of game you play becomes so radically different from low to high tier. Most people don't react to that well and of course some don't like the added pressure of being 'responsible' for protecting the fleet, outplaying the enemy carrier and getting in your own 150k damage at the same time. It's hard work. Don't forget that WoWs is a game for geriatric grandpa's who like to sail in a straight line at 25kn and shoot guns once in a while and wait another 17s for their shells to land. Playing CV is hugely complex compared to that, it doesn't matter that the actual ROF of attacks is lower in a CV.

Best premium dd gunboat, and best dd gunboat line?
walter3kurtz replied to thiextar's topic in General Discussion
Agree that Leningrad and Soviet line is what you are looking for. Just consider that Leningrad needs a somewhat specialized captain. It can be made to work without EM and CE, but they are considered a (big) plus. -
I know I'm venturing on dangerous terrain when I say that Khaba is meh. But I will explain what I mean and this ties in with what you wrote above. You soloing two tier X DD's means they messed up, Z52 especially. Bad position, bad use of hydro and torps. The reason for the rudder shift nerf was to avoid stuff like this. With stealth module and good rudder shift the Khaba could 1v1 any other DD by pouncing on them when it was already too late. In this case they should've seen you coming for 10 minutes probably, especially when you were coming in guns blazing on other targets. I did die to a Khaba once or twice in a DD when I got into a corner I couldn't escape from, but then I can say it was 100% my fault. Was Khaba better before the range and rudder shift nerf? I think everyone agrees on that and the stats prove it too. It used to be OP and deserved a nerf. But that just means that you should not be looking forward to Khaba as it's just another boat and preference (for me: range over DPM) should be of more consideration. Yeah sure, but with ~13km range you are just depleting your HP a lot faster in an environment where you take fire from multiple sources. And this is annoying because Khaba should take fire from multiple angles.

One thing to add to the above that hasn't been mentioned, it's hard to make good use of Khabarovsk for a few reasons: 1. The range is crap 2. It attracts massive heat because omg khaba 3. Torps are useless for anything but an ambush Compare that to Udaloi: 1. The range is a lot better, almost as good as Tashkent 2. No one wants to focus you because Udaloi 3. Torps are fast and can be launched from stealth 4. You are one tier lower Now ask yourself, is it worth it to trade all that for heal and one extra turret? The above basically means that both lines have a meh tier 10 (Khaba after the nerfs and Grozovoi was never anything to look forward to) and it's best to stick to the tier 9's. So we have Fetcher situation, where the tier 9 is your end station, although I personally favor the Gearing over the Grozovoi and the Khabarovsk.

Ah, the old WR is all luck argument. If you are a unicum in a game with mostly average players, you will pull the chance of winning up. That's how stats work. You are simply an average player. Where you are right though is that MM can screw you over and that's bad luck. You can get matched up against unicum tryhard divisions. You can get 5 DD games, you can get unlucky with a large amount of radar or hydro ships on the enemy team,. You can get unlucky with higher tier CV's, double CV's etc. etc. In that sense you are right it's RNG. But winning or losing over any statistically significant number of games is not. You can't demand winning consistently or having the same performance every time, but you can force good average performance over a large number of games. But you need to get on a higher level than you are now.

Good luck against 146s hydro of Z52 and some radar cruisers to top it off -
I think DD's have the most impact / highest carry potential. Well together with well played radar cruisers (but this basically means you are countering DD's underlining the DD's importance). So for tier 8 go with LoYang. For tier 10 I think Z52 will in fact be strongest, for the simple reason it can hydro so long and at such range that enemy DD's without hydro are powerless. If you think LoYang is annoying to playa against wait until you see a Z52 with hydro module. Gearing and YueYang come as (very) distant second. Don't bring anything else IMO.
