Agreed. I would hate it if WoWS was to become a game where premiums were the obvious and only way to go if you wanted to win. That would be pay to win in the purest sense. In fact, considering how the top of various ship leaderboards are plastered with premiums, such accusations are already hitting to close for comfort. Premiums are a good way of introducing ships which have are of particular historical or aesthetic interest which for some reason does not fit into the ordinary tech trees. They already have enough appeal (captain training, gold+xp earnings etc) for them not to need to be overpowered in battle as well.

To be fair, that's not a terrible way of avoiding some of the more glaring stock grinds resulting from the tier placement of ships that were heavily upgraded during their lifetime (i.e. the capabilities of a single ship corresponding to several different tiers, depending on whether upgraded or not). Not saying I'd buy it, but I'd love to see the original Kongo back in the game in one form or another.

With Notser's preview now up, the overhead now covers what I believe to be the six most popular community contributors. Have I forgotten someone, or does anyone have any suggestions on whether someone else should be added?

Wasn't her armor buffed slightly by lowering her, so that the citadel didn't sit so far above the waterline? That's a very long time ago, though. Last summer or something.I agree that it feels like she takes more damage these days, but that's due to power creep rather than any direct nerfing. Pretty sure the explanation is simply that there are more guns around at t6 which can do serious damage to the Warspite now. The Bayern, and soon the Mutsu, comes to mind. Plus the MM isn't quite as kind to t6 as it once was, so you'll see t7s and t8s more often. But the gun traverse hasn't been touched, afaik. =)

Nope. Still the same as she was before. Had an excellent game in her earlier today. =)

Thanks for the contest, Wargaming! Really made me try hard to perform in ships I'm not usually terribly good in. Wish you did this more often. That said, I thought I had a 1300ish base xp battle in the V-170 about a week ago. Not that I'm terribly miffed about it or anything, but I sunk 6 ships. Isn't base xp the number shown next to your ship in the team results list, or does the bonus applied to the winning team not count as "base"? Or is there some part of the base xp calculation that I'm not getting? =) edit: And congrats to those of you who did manage to get on the top list. Well done! edit 2: Nevermind. Just realised the premium bonus is already applied on the team results screen, isn't it? If so, then that's probably the explanation.

If you're talking about this guide here, then - no - iChase is talking about the new iteration of the static crosshair. The static crosshair is calibrated at 20kts. Notser's dynamic crosshair guide, meanwhile, obviously is all about the dynamic crosshair. This crosshair is calibrated at 30kts.

I'd wait until you see what balance changes are brought in before judging that.

Where do you have this from? All the sources I have seen agree that "standard" ranges from which to fire surface launched torpedoes for British and US ships during WWII were 6 km or less. Commonly much less.

Afaik not in so many words, but still. The announcement in the 2017 Dev Diary video (you'll find it a short way down on the worldofwarships.eu homepage, or in the announcement section of this forum) that the French will receive two new lines in the coming year makes it a fairly good guess that one of them will be a cruiser line. That's after all the central line from which all other lines split. -

Did not intend to insult your work. I've consulted the overhead before and found it useful. Thanks to you and mr3awsome for making them in the first place. =)Just struck me that the pictures currently doesn't really appear to show how the tech tree looks these days. Have I just misunderstood how to read them? -

Just out of curiosity - why is this thread still pinned? The overhead hasn't been updated for a very long time, and doesn't really contain much useful information as per the current state of wows. -
Pretty certain I saw sub_octavian on reddit commenting that it's still being worked on, and that as soon as it is ready it will hit the test server. So - in short - it's not forgotten, but no one knows anything more about when it's coming.

Plus the game always calculates MM according to the highest tiered ship on the team. So a tier V ship can quite easily end up dragging a tier IV teammate into a battle against tier VIIs. That's as it should be, though. Otherwise you could have tier VIII ships being dragged into tier V battles. That would be bad. In short - don't create multi-tiered teams. =)

I hope I'm wrong, but weren't the SS-N-1 missiles on the Kildin/56M nuclear tipped only...?

There is a new dev diary video out providing some hints at what’s upcoming in 2017. Just thought I would list a short summary of the more important ones here. https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/updates/dev-diaries-2017-plans/ Unspecified number of new British lines Two new French lines Soviet DD tree will be split into artillery and destroyer leader sub-branches In total around 50 new ships are planned Legendary commanders Unspecified new type of armament New and improved graphics (including some very good looking gunfire animations) Improved sound design Depot New earnable (not for sale) ship improvements Skill tree changes Expanded PvE mode Clans

Cheeses. I was a bit surprised no one had posted anything about it yet, but completely forgot to check the announcements section. I really am quite slow at times. =p Oh, well.

Not really an excuse for griefing the people in tier V, though. The game should be fun to play for everyone, not just for the lucky people who happen to be top tier in any given battle. The current matchmaking can be harsh - more so for certain tiers and ships than for others, but still. It should not be this way. At the same time, meeting the occasional +2 enemy can be fun. Facing whole fleets of them on a regular basis is not. A possible solution could be to limit the top tier in any three tier battle to, say three ships per side. That way the tier system would still function much as it does now, but the MM would be less harsh for the bottom tier ships. The downside of course is that battle waiting times for certain tiers would increase. Would it increase by much, though? That I don't know. That said, OP's tactic of equating Wargaming employees to apes is probably not the most constructive way to draw attention to the issue. (read: understatement)

OP British Bofors (What're the best Bofors in the game?)
Verence196 replied to TheRamblingBaron's topic in General Discussion
You're right. My mistake. For anyone interested, information on the various Bofors 40 mounts, including STAAG and the RP50 Mk V, can be found in Friedman, Norman; Naval Anti Aircraft Guns and Gunnery; Seaforth, 2014. And of course on the Navweaps site: http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_4cm-56_mk12.php -

Verence196 replied to TheRamblingBaron's topic in General Discussion
Nice work! Just nitpicking, really - but the name of the Neptune mount is STAAG (for Stabilized Tachymetric Anti-Aircraft Gun), not STAGG. =). Pretty certain it is the STAAG Mk I too (AFAIK the Mk II was a post-war thing, but I'm not absolutely certain about that). -

Did you try to sign up twice? Cause I read that to mean that you are already signed up for the contest.
