    Royal BB line

More to do with ships getting upgraded with firing radar, and so not needing aircraft to spot the fall of shells. The end result is the same, however. =)

    How to Gneisenau?

A big part of playing a successful brawler ship is picking your fights. The Gneis often does very well in the mid-to-late game, when enemy destroyer numbers have been blunted, and the teams are more spread out. Then you are more free to pick your targets, so that you can focus your angling, and close at speed while not worrying about torps or getting flanked. If you charge in as soon as the battle begins, you're just likely to be focused down and sunk.

    Event Calendar - February

Super league missions are only available to those who have reached rank 1 in ranked battles. According to your profile you have 9 ranks left to grind before you'll see any of those containers. Good luck! =)

Apropos nothing at all - I just noticed that HMS Gorgon seen from behind looks eerily similar to SMS König seen from the front... =)

I enjoy watching these, and I'm sure many others do as well. I therefore thought it would be useful to gather all the major ones in a single easy-to-see overview thread like this.I'll keep updating the overhead as new reviews are released. If you find one which I haven't posted yet, please put it in a comment and I'll update the list. The reviews: IJN Mutsu

For a given value of meh. It sounds pretty much like a variation on the Warspite to me, and I really enjoy my British guns. =) I'm not convinced premiums need to be all that good. There are plenty of other good reasons to buy them (captain training, improved credit and xp income among the most obvious ones). Premiums that are too powerful or have limited available counterplay strategies (the Belfast comes to mind. =p) do not make the game better. They just provoke increasing levels of frustration among those that meet them in battle. In short - why do people clamor for overpowered premiums one minute, and then complain loudly about p2w the next?

    The reviews: IJN Mutsu

The Mutsu has been released, and is on sale in the web shop. I've updated the original post with additional reviews. I'm not aware of any changes made to the ship from the preview version, beyond the RoF buff that some of the CCs were talking about. Anmyone who could confirm or correct this?

    Dreadnought Era Appreciation Thread

I'll just leave these little photos here too. Neither a destroyer, cruiser, nor battleship be she. This is the monitor HMS Gorgon. Ordered from Armstrong Whitworth in 1913 as the Norwegian coastal defence ship Nidaros, she was taken over by the Royal Navy on the outbreak of war. Due to repeated delays in building, she was only commissioned in May 1918. Her 9.2-inch guns fired the Royal Navy's last shots of the war against the German army, when she bombarded shore targets in Flanders a few weeks before the signing of the armistice.

Nice! She was with the Grand Fleet all her service life? Probably including more or less non-stop patrolling in the north sea, blockade cordons and northern barrage. No wonder she was worn out by 1919.

when will mutsu arrive at shop?

I'm not gonna rule it out. I quite like the Warspite (slow ship - big, accurate guns) playstyle, so if I do pick her up I'm guaranteed to play her from time to time. There are premiums out there that I'd probably prioritise over her. The IJN battleship line is one of few I've yet to get into, however. That alone makes her appealing as a captain trainer. I took the liberty of compiling all of the main community contributor previews in this thread. Quite a few of them seem to judge her "decent, but not spectacular".

    Mahan or Akatsuki?

Just not to write off the Akatsuki completely - Notser explains the role of torpedoes in countering the smoke heavy aspect of the current meta quite nicely. Yes, he's sailing the Shiratsuyu in the video (and yes, it is a much better torpedo platform than the Akatsuki), but the Akatsuki can still do serious damage with its torps. It really all depends on how comfortable you are with playing a stealth-torper vs a smoke support/knife fighter. =) The first four minutes of the video are the relevant ones:

    Mahan or Akatsuki?

The people above have pretty much made my point. Just thought I'd systematise and sum up the pros/cons: Smoke: Mahan has the US smoke consumable, which lasts much longer than the Japanese. The ability to smoke up your team is of great value in the current ranked meta. The Akatsuki kan also smoke, but less than the Mahan. Pick: Mahan Torpedoes: Akatsuki has 3x3 torps with 10km range, 62kn and 76sec reload. Mahan has 3x4 (but only 2x4 on the broadside) torps with 9,2km range, 55kn and 87sec reload. The Mahan is able to launch a greater number of torpedoes (albeit by turning the ship around), but their slow speed and low alpha damage (11k versus 17k) gives the Akatsuki a clear edge. Pick: Akatsuki Guns: Akatsuki has 3x2 127mm with 10,37km range, 8rpm and 6dg/sec. Mahan has 5x1 (or 4x1 in C hull) 127mm with 11,67km range, 15rpm and 15dg/sec. The Akatsuki has more guns and much better firing arcs, but the slow gun rotation and low range means she'll struggle to keep them on target. The Mahan will struggle to hit anything smaller than a battleship at long range, but will wreck the Akatsuki in any close range fight. Pick: Mahan AA: Neither the Akatsuki or the Mahan have impressive AA. However, the C-hull on the Mahan will give you the defensive fire consumable, which allows you to break up enemy air attacks against yourself and allies in range. Pick: Mahan Durability: 14100hp for Mahan vs 13100hp for Akatsuki. Close, but Mahan wins this one. Pick: Mahan Maneuverability: 35kn and 560 turn radius for Mahan vs 38kn and 640 turn radius for Akatsuki. This one is close, but on the smaller ranked maps I'd say turn radius trumps speed. Pick: Mahan Concealment: 7,92km for Mahan vs 7,38km for Akatsuki Both destroyers have very poor concealment. The Akatsuki's is better, but the Mahan as a gun platform which can fire over islands is not quite as reliant on hiding. Both can stealth fire torpedoes, and do so from outside radar range. Still, the Akatsuki wins this. Pick: Akatsuki The Akatsuki has better torpedoes, but the smoke, AA consumable and capacity for hunting lone destroyers should make the Mahan the better ship in the ranked meta. That's not to say that the Akatsuki can't make her prescence felt, though. Overall pick: Mahan

    Rebuying the North Carolina

    No problem. =)
  19. Verence196

    Rebuying the North Carolina

Correct. You only have to research a ship and its various modules once. When you sold it, you sold all your purchased modules, however. When rebuying it you'll therefore have to rebuy them all.

    Clans costing Doubloons?

Not actually possible with the current team rules, due to max +1 tier difference. A New Mexico and a New York, however. =)
  23. I might go back to picking more try your luck-containers. I used to take mainly signals, but the nerf to those is such that they don't seem that appealing now.

WG EU, this is getting ridiculous...

This! Mission difficulty is not what I take issue with. The problem is how players can go about completing said missions, and what gameplay they promote. Objectives that rely on a large degree of luck or that encourage bad gameplay/lack of teamwork is simply poor mission design. Nor should early objectives exclude a large portion of the player base (such as requiring players to sail in a carrier). Missions should push us as players to make an extra effort towards improving some aspect of our play - such as tanking, spotting, capping/defending caps etc. Cro_pwr's suggestions is an excellent summary and a good point of departure for how to remedy this. That said, thanks for responding to the thread, MrConway. It's nice to see some confirmation that staff read the forum threads from time to time. =)

Remember, however, that by being the best player from the losing team (by experience gained), you do not lose a Star. The exact rewards for obtaining each rank and the precise number of stars can be found in-game within the Ranked Battles section! That's it! Now you are ready to join Season 6 of Ranked Battles, progress up the ladder, and earn yourself bounty and fame on the high seas of World of Warships. Action Stations!
