    [edited] ship design

I really don't know what you're talking about now. You do know there is such a thing as technological development, where engines become more efficient, armor becomes lighter and guns become better? There are some sixty years between a T3 and a T10 design. That's enough time for some serious development. And no - you can't put guns atop the machinery. Not unless you choose to ignore the barbette, loading mechanism, ammunition hoists and magazines - i.e. most things that makes it function as a gun.

Swedish would also be HMS. Hans Majestäts Skepp. And Wasa is the original spelling. Vasa is the modern way of spelling it. =)

    [edited] ship design

Warship-design during the era of wows was all about striking a balance between speed, protection and firepower. An increase in one would automatically lead to a decrease in one or both of the others. Hull shape and length is similarly a part of this triangle of tradeoffs. A long, but narrow ship is quicker than a short, broad one (try to play one of the fat americans (South Carolina, Wyoming and others) and you'll see). Yet making the ship longer would mean less protection or fewer guns within the same weight (and increasing weight would mean the ship would become slower again). You can say a lot about ship designers and engineers of the last century, but they had some idea of what they were doing. =)
  4. Just to provide some more data on the current MM balance issue. It's still early days, and my number of matches do not really add up to statistical significance yet, but I'm posting nevertheless. The below graph shows the aggregated tier balance of my matches on tiers 3-6 since 5.10 was released, with the x-axis showing number of battles, and y-axis showing tier aggravation.. Method: There really should have been more data, but even with what little there is here, the difference between t5 and t6 is striking. You're regularly outtiered at t6, but at t5 it happens in the vast majority of matches - often by two tiers. edit: Just to make it absolutely clear: If the matchmaking was balanced, then all the lines should be hovering around 0 - ideally they should be completely flat. A rising graph indicates you're playing bottom tier a majority of battles, while a falling graph indicates you're playing top. I'd be very curious to se the graph for t7, but I don't have any of those ships yet. =) edit 2: Just realised I wrote "aggravated" instead of "aggregated". Oh well. =p

    T5 MM imbalance: Aggravated chart

Don't think so. The MM system doesn't take win rate into account when creating battle set-ups, at least as far as I know. My guess is it's purely a result of T5s now being unable to match against T3s, creating a pile up. Why that should result in an imbalance at T6 I can't say, but there appears to be one. I'd welcome suggestions. =)

    My apologies then. =)

    Salvo Fire option

You do know that double clicking fires salvos, while holding the mouse button fires in a continuous ripple? =)

    T5 MM imbalance: Aggravated chart

Now you're just quibbling. =)It's quite possible to have a Minekaze+a Blyska vs two Blyskas - the imbalance being made up by the cruisers or battleships. Still bad news for the Minekaze.

    T5 MM imbalance: Aggravated chart

In the graph, or in your personal experience? =)

    T5 MM imbalance: Aggravated chart

Dependent on what you're playing. If you're a Minekaze, then two Blyskas on the enemy team is terribly bad news. But yeah - overall you're right. Statistics should ideally be even more detailed. I've attempted to show these in an easy-to-understand graph, and the level of detail suffers for it. The kind of tracking you have in mind is beyond what I can be bothered to note down. Wargaming have these stats directly from their servers. If they wanted an informed discussion, they could have released them. =)In the meantime, we have to make do with this.

Your top 3 ships and worst 3

Best: 1) Minekaze/Isokaze - To me these are the pinnacle of IJN DD performance. Fast, stealthy, with good torps and a fairly low reload time to match, they're almost always fun to play - especially in the current BB-heavy meta. You can have some extremely good games in them too. 2) New Mexico - The US t6 BB is a blast if you can get it into mid-range, where the armor and power of its guns really come into play. It can counter the long ranging IJN battleships, but still brawl decently with the Germans. It's not a game changing machine, but can be a blast to play. The speed is on the slow side, but in return you get maneuverability enough to dodge torps and angle incoming salvos - plus decent AA to boot. 3) Königsberg - Coming directly from casemated, short range WWI era ships, getting into the Königsberg can be a bit of a challenge, but once you learn to play her - oh boy! Fast shooting, long ranging and accurate guns with 360 traverse. Decent AP power allows you to citadel enemy cruisers - even at range - and woe to the DD that ventures into your sights. A fast ship which can take out any DD, wreck wichever cruiser comes its way, and still be a serious thorn in the side of any BBs that comes into range - what more could you ask for? Honorable mentions: Omaha - Much the same as the Königsberg, but trades some long range accuracy and firepower for higher rof and better torps. A true brawler of a cruiser. Aoba - A bigger Furutaka, and a kind of Königsberg with torps. Always good fun. Worst: 1) Kirov - I know it's technically a decent ship if played correctly, but I very rarely do. I'm too fond of brawling to stay away from absolutely everything else - something required in this sniper. I've had some good games in this, but it's just not my cup of tea. 2) Derzki - This is the exact opposite to the Kirov - a ship that can do nothing but torp-brawl. It has an insane torp-spamming ability, with 10 tubes to a broadside, and very low reload time. Still I just don't like it much. Too much depends on circumstances when it comes to whether you'll have a fun game or not. You need lots of cover/islands + ideally some less than gifted BB players for this ship to work well. 3) Mutsuki - Is on the list simply for the huge let down after the bundle of fun that is the Minekaze/Isokaze. It gets better when it regains it's stealth firing capability with upgraded torps, but it's still not the same. You dont have the guns to battle pretty much anything other than another Mutsuki, and you have to launch torps at enemies from too far away for it to get exciting. The small torp-broadside and relatively high cooldown doesn't add to the experience either.

    need help

I had that yesterday too. Tried deleting everything and reinstalling - still got that same message. Tried again when I got home from work today - it's loading just fine now. My guess it's server-related. Give it a wait, then try again. =)

Warspite in need of boosted range with matchmaker mod

I like how the gun turrets look like turtles who've withdrawn into their shells, possibly because they just encountered a host of T8s. =)

I want to delete my account

You could start by visiting the home page (worldofwarships.eu), and clicking the "support" button in the top left corner. That works on most games. And if you really wonder why you're not getting more help, I'd suggest thinking carefully about your habit of insulting people left, right and center. =)

    Where to go from here?

This. Spuggy just said what I wanted to say, but he/she managed to do it a lot more elegantly. =)
  16. Verence196

    Where to go from here?

The slow reload time isn't hurting as much as you'd think. By that stage you're spending so much time maneuvering to get into advantageous firing positions while staying out of detection range, that you often as not won't notice it. That said, the Minekaze is a true gem, and it's worth playing the line at least up to t5, just to get her. She's just so much fun - which makes the let down that is the t6 Mutsuki so much worse. The USN DDs are very different ships than their IJN counterparts, but I can hand on heart say I've enjoyed every single one of them so far. =) I've never really understood why so many people seem to insist on grinding one line at a time. I've been playing at least three or four at any one time. That keeps the grind from becoming tedious, while enhancing my understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the different ship classes I'm facing in any one battle. Just remember to take five seconds to think about what ship you're about to play before starting the match. I've been sunk so many times while attempting to brawl DDs in my Kirov, just because I excelled at the same in my Omaha just last battle. =p

    Suggetion for ports

I'd love me some Scandi/Scottish-looking fjord for a port! Snow capped beauty, and a historically plausible setting for many of the European naval ships. The only downside is the clandestine resistance-operated wireless station hidden on one of the mountainsides, reporting your position to every other player on the server, but I can live with that. Bismarck and Prinz Eugen in fjords, followed by Königsberg sinking in one: And Warspite, with RN DDs, hunting German ships in fjords:

    Where to go from here?

True, they are rather squishy. I find the trick is to try to make myself inconspicuous, and not the best target for enemies. Sailing together with allies, plus making good use of geography works for me. Of course, sometimes you run up against someone who just wants to sink you, and you only. That's when things get tricky. =) Anyways, I almost forgot - some of the Russian cruisers are getting radar next patch. That might change their utility in close range encounters. We'll have to wait and see.

    Where to go from here?

What the above poster said. I'm only at t6 myself (with a variety of BBs, CAs and DDs), and I can vouch that the gameplay seems to change quite a lot around that tier. The following advice is only valid for the ships I've played (so anything t7 upwards is not covered =)) What other line to grind really depends on your playstyle. From you comments on the Furutaka, I'm guessing you enjoy being mobile, rapid-firing and fairly close to the enemy. If that's the case, then the US cruiser line might be the way to go. The Phoenix, Omaha and Cleveland are all good fun if you like that kind of play. The shell velocity is on the low side (especially for the Cleve), making long range work a chore, though. The Germans are also an option. Their cruisers above t3 are really quite fun. Especially from t5 they're accurate, rapid-firing and have decent AP and torps. The Russian CAs, once you get above t3, are squishy, but quite good at range. The Budyonny can brawl a little bit, but the Kirov is only good for sniper duty. If you find not being in the thick of the action to be a drag, then that line probably isnt for you. ps. I found the early-hull Furutaka a bit of a struggle, but once I got the twin-turret C-hull it became a true joy. The Furu has bigger guns (no matter the turrets) than most cruisers at its tiers, and thus the AP can reliably citadel most t5 and t6 cruisers, even at a distance. The twin guns adds to the firepower you can bring to bear quickly, thus adding to your DPS, and the torps are good for deterring any Omaha or similarly rapid-firing enemy who wants to come close. The Aoba really is only more of the same - which is a good thing.

    Dropped out of games.

It's happened to me a couple of times. I don't use any mods, and the internet connection is fine for other things. My solution has just been to go off play another game or do something else for a while. Problem's usually gone whenever I try again later.

Missing RADAR consumable on my T8 CHAPAYEV

Not about radar use specifically, but it shows Notser playing and explaining the Chapayev, including his use of its radar. And more of the same (especially 1:20-3:10): And yet more:

    100% Serious

This. You have to start weaving and turning the moment you suspect a CV is targeting you. Don't wait for a torp warning. Use your situational awareness and the minimap. A TB strike on you is defeated before the torps are dropped, or not at all. =)

    Endless loading

Ever since downloading 0.5.10 the game has had a tendency to enter a seemingly endless loading cycle whenever I try to join a battle. The funny thing is - it only seems to happen intermittently. Never had a similar problem before. I've attempted to play the game pretty much every day since the introduction of the new update. My first match of the day has always been with my l5 Minekaze (to get to grips with the overwhelming number of BBs =p), and the game has always loaded without any problem whatsoever. No lag. Normal ping. Problems start from my second battle onwards. Whenever I try to load a new battle in another ship, the game reaches the "queuing for battle"-screen with the countdown timer. So far, so good. Then the loading symbol appears over the queuing screen - normally signifying that I've been accepted for a battle, which is now loading - but then nothing happens. The loading symbol remains, and the queuing timer continues to count down in the background. Yesterday I gave up after waiting for 25 mins. With the loading symbol present it is no longer possible to leave the queue, and its not possible to go back to the main menu. The only option left is to quit the game from the windows task manager. Two times, after the timer has reached 20-or-so minutes, the game has CTD'd with the error message "the game is not responding". I first thought this problem was related to the insane number of BB players currently playing, since it's happened every single time I've tried to play my l6 New Mex (the only BB currently in my port), but it's also been happening more often than not when trying to play any one of my l5/l6 cruisers, or my l6 Farragut. Anyone else experiencing anything similar?
