In your opinion, is the updated aircraft carrier type suited to Ranked Battles?
rnat replied to Colonel_Boom's topic in General Discussion
There are not that many DDs, unless mostly/fully AA built, that can effectively deny a same-tier CV. Against most DDs you will loose some planes, but with decent maneuvering you can avoid the majority of dmg and recover most of your squad (either after striking or by recalling later) and pop fighters before leaving. And given how litttle time it takes to bring a fresh squad into action that is potentially 5-10 minutes of at least high-frequency intermittent spotting. -

Imagine one of the DDs being a Kitakaze, Grozovoi, Kidd what have you. If the opposing DD is spotted why not happily smoke up and start raining fire on the enemy ? You don't really need the team to focus. 1-2 ships are usually enough to force a smoke or drive the DD away, chances are even both. Heck an incessant strike-plane spam might do the job. That's a free cap for your team if i've ever seen one. -
Having the same problem with the rest of the internet working normally and it pre-downloading just fine the day before, so presumably it's a server-side issue.

With no more non-local hard counter for CVs and fewer ships per team to provide AA and to disperse the CVs attention it would be an over spotting and harassment nightmare for the DDs. Given the typically BB-heavy meta, which is kind of funny since it's kind of self-enforcing and the usually questionable team-play i don't see any friendly AA bubbles to help the DDs out much either. -
An event that gives you the currency and boxes containing the currency, which you can then use to buy one (or more depending on how much you can/will get) ship of your choice.

RN "Exeter" Marathon (starting March 1st)
rnat replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
That was part of a larger event though, which i gave as an exception. Could we agree that anything up to T6 is the norm for stuff that's not part of christmas or a larger event ? -

I said typically. There was the Aigle as well. The point there was supposed to be that it's not that common. -

RN "Exeter" Marathon (starting March 1st)
rnat replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
The T6 and T7 freemiums are usually scheduled for christmas, T5 is as high as it typically goes for the rest of the year, unless it's a special, longer event (e.g. Cossack) -
They are currently collecting feedback, so i suspect tier and mode at least are not fixed yet. And as Salentine pointed out it's likely that there will be a CW season in between.

As several ppl stated you're not locked into anything. Feel free to strech out your feelers and play whatever seems appealing.

No, you're not locked into anything. You have all the T1 cruisers from the get go and a few additional port slots. You can always start going along another line (DDs branch out form cruisers at T2, CVs from DDs and BBs from CAs at T3) The only limitation will be how many ships you can have at the same time unless you spend some doubloons (i.e. money) to get more. For DDs the KM should be a decent start with decent guns and good torpedos (except for the T22, whose guns are rubbish), the line focuses more on capture control from mid-tiers on when the ships get hydro and become larger. IJN main-line DDs have good torps as well and hard-hitting, slow reloading guns with awful handling (30s/180° turret traverse) and tend to be the stealthiest on each tier, so they might be what you're looking for. Their DD line branches out though with the Akizuki/Harugumo line turning into a almost pure gunboat line with massive dakka on big, clumsy ships (compared to other DDs) No clue what you mean by IRY though. USN hybrids are good to teach DD-tactics (ambushes, smoke usage, gunning ect.) but start more as gunboats and only get good torps from T8 and up, getting very good torpedo power at T9. The Pan-asian line is similar but gets longer range hard hitting torps earlier with the trade-off that you can't hit any DDs with them and has some inconsistencies in the playstyle. If you want to focus on torps as you stated stay away from the RN and Soviet DDs at first. RN stuff usually is for more advanced players and Soviet DDs are pure gunboats. For your other question: Generally the IJN is a good starting line with classic game play on each of their lines and almost only good/decent ships along the way (looking at you Kawachi). You could try the KM as well as their ships tend to be rather sturdy and relative consistent in their performance without requiring too much skill to make work on a low level. just be aware that the Königsberg (t5) and Nürnberg (t6) are notorious for blowing up when a BB gives them funny looks, though that is true for most T5 and below cruisers. The USN is a good teaching nation as well, but the skill required ramps up more than with the previous two from mid-tiers on.

Alaska says "I heard in on the grapevine, now pls dont loose yo mind"
rnat replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
I understood the "what should it have" as "what would be the next relevant armour thickness", since it was a response to someone assuming it's a meaningless increase over the normal 27mm. But if you're asking me directly: No. (Unless it's only for my Alaska, rest of you can have the pleb version ^^) -

It gives you 400mm overmatch (as compared to 386mm for 27mm) So indeed not useful ingame at all, except that it's safe from 130mm IHFE-spam. edit: 29mm would be safe from 406mm overmatch. 33 (34) mm would be safe from 152 (155) mm IFHE spam, -
First of all welcome to the forum (and the game ?). Are you looking for a specific class ? nation ? ship ? Small remark on the side: There are premiums you can buy for 1 credit, though you have to research them with free exp before. Currently out of the original 3 only HMS Nelson is available but 2 new ones are in the pipeline.

best 1337 hax for using CLs (USN, RN, both russian lines) is to tape down your LMB. Recommended by many serious surgeons to avoid repeated strain injury and broken fingernails. Also hurray for no longer feeling like a complete freak. *part of the <1k karma peasants* ^^

Bit over 900. Heck if i know why considering how much i salt the earth sometimes. ^^ Btw anyone feel free to report me when you see me in in RB.

Just use the fexp to buy the upgraded modules for each ship from the get go, that way you'll have the best experience on each ship. And besides the Izumo (some say she's pretty decent after the last round of buffs) the rest of the ships are all pretty good.
-
The main point he argues against is DM players prioritizing radar coverage over gun usage and keeping the ship afloat. Radar still gives better utility, not only for the team but also for the DM itself, especially when dealing with DDs and RN cruisers or when trying to gauge weather one can push around an island/through a gap beforehand. Especially since the plane-spotting nerf (smaller radius, LOS)
-
HERESY! But srsly, the Radar offers much more utility and if you're in a good spot you don't need a spotter to shoot over the island, nor should you be too far from the caps to regularly need the extra range. 1) I somehow doubt that. Unless it's a very low island, in which case the additional mounting height could do it. 2) It's usually easier to lob at a ship parking behind an island from range than the other way round, since your shells will be in the terminal phase when clearing the ground, falling at a steeper angle than they were shot at.

For tech tree ships (only T5+6) I'd say Budyonny, with CE and IFHE. There are some other ships for which not much changed, but since you want schooling potential, take the Budyonny. It just burns everything when played to it's strenghts.
-
Ha! I win.
-
There might be a cash offer or there might not be, the ship was confirmed to be 1kk free exp, which already makes it "buyable" assuming one has enough exp lying around on various ships.
