Soviet Battleships Tiers III – VII

Like Smoke+Hydro+HE+Radar is the Belfasts thing. And yes, it extends further up several KM BBs, let's agree on additional bow- and stern to make sure the expression is not misleading. And here i thought i was a nit picker ^^

Soviet Battleships Tiers III – VII

    1) Sry, my mistake should have double checked. I accidentally took the value from mid-tier cruiser plating. 2) I was talking about those upper sections on the Nikolai and Okt Rev. Maybe i should have made that point clearer. The point was that the Russian BBs don't even have those, neither do they really have much of any spammable deck-surface, which is where the armor goes from strong to ridiculous. 3) T III-X German BBs really. Additional waterline plating is kind of a thing with the German, as well as many low tier BBs.

Soviet Battleships Tiers III – VII

It might be kind of early but seriously: Just from looking at the model in the tech-tree isn't the armor scheme for the T 3-5 just a tad weird ? As in the completely ludicrously overpowered kind of weird ? Even the Nikolai and Okt Rev have the typical 19mm upper bow- and stern-sections and those are already considered pretty damn tanky. Mind you the Okt Rev IS the Gangut and she's gonna be less tanky than the tech-tree equivalent down a tier. [edited: correction and clarification (cursive)]

    Cruisers?

The low tier British BBs can get by almost exclusively using HE, which is a bad lesson. The QE at t6 is a more classic, AP focused BB. The Warspite is along those lines as well, in fact it's better to not think of her as a "typical" British BB, since her guns are way more accurate and powerful for their caliber than the usual British ones. She promotes classic BB game play with her mediocre speed, in-tier armor and strong AP.

    Cruisers?

A bit more difficult than other lines but not significantly. The difference mostly comes from the fact that USN cruisers benefit more from the use of cover than most other lines and lack torpedoes as a last ditch weapon. As with all lines it's something you'll grow into though and unlike some not a line that needs you to already be knowledgeable to make it work.

    Blyskawica camo

While it might be an incentive as well to buy it (don't worry it's pretty easy to ignore once you got it and it's out of sight) there was a camouflage design-contest for the Blyska earlier and WG stated that the winning camo could be earned. The same was true for a special Normandie camo (Ocean liner) earlier and will happen for a another one for both Leningrad and Minsk later. So the camo being for a premium only is a bit of a bummer for those who have it but it's free and there have been and will be others.

    Cruisers - How to?

EL is great on the Zao. NOT worth giving up PT though. Really really isn't. edited: I accidentally originally quoted from a quote 1 post below the original (see answer below). May historians blame an acute lack of coffee and brain. My apologies to Skurios.
  9. Just about as often: Everybody abandons the flank you have spawned on. Thank you for choosing to play the rearguard all match.

Generally you either want to use smoke defensively to break line of sight to escape or offensively to park in the smoke and shoot stuff outside. Smoking up to torpedo someone if you don't really have to is generally a bad idea. It basically puts up a giant sign saying "CAUTION: THERE'S A DD HERE!"
  11. We'll see on how balanced they will be but so far i think they sound like a boatload of fun to try. May i point to the inevitable 20km "snipah"-Bismarck or GK you find every other match ?

    Beginner battleships?

They kind of are to some degree but mostly of aren't. My advice would be to not go further than the Budyonny for now since that one is relatively forgiving and fun ship. A better line looking at consistency of the experience, ease of play and learning factor are the Japanese cruisers (just be aware that the Furutaka is awful when stock but brilliant once fully upgraded), Alternatively the USN or KM line. The USN is a bit harder to learn but a good teacher. For the longer answer open the spoiler.
  14. Congrats, You have understood the essence of the (weekend) player-base.

    Beginner battleships?

It's a good line over-all and a good teaching line as well. Most important thing though is weather you enjoy playing it. If so there is absolutely no reason to stop. You can try the germans too, anything you think looks interesting and is fun ^^

    Beginner battleships?

Only really from the Bismarck onwards. (Some might say the Gnei but i don't think so) You asked for a good teaching line though and that's definitely not the germans. They let you get away with a lot that would risk getting instant-nuked in other lines. You'll take dmg but it's a false sense of security.

    Beginner battleships?

This is only True for the T6,T7s and the Wichita though. The Baltimore, Buffalo and Dem Memes get the super heavy USN AP which has a lower muzzle velocity and is where the notion of slow USN shells mostly stems from.

Remember: The red team in in the same situation as you are. There tends to be little coordination in any team unless you happen to get a bunch or pretty good players at the same time. Also if you feel confident enough in your tactics you can try suggesting a tactic or the next move to another ship. Sometimes they even listen. The game automatically records the last 30 (iirc) battles for you. They are stored in the format: date_time_shipID-ship_map.wowsreplay in the replays sub-folder in your wows folder. As long as the game is not running or a patch happened in between (sometimes it still works) you can open those files with using WorldOfWarships.exe in the wows folder.

    PTS - Bugs

I'm honestly not sure weather the following is a bug or intended: Aurora/Space Moskva still has the pre-buff water-level plating.

    Automatic DCP for all classes

That is an overall bigger argument related to a ships base-strength and skill ceiling (and the amount of geniuses it draws), so i won't comment. Rubbish players are rubbish in (almost) every ship though, so I don't see how that relates much to supposedly or actual OP ships.

    Automatic DCP for all classes

*edited by me You are so so right. I propose automatic man battery guns and torpedoes as well. This way we can keep the game balanced across the player base and ppl have more time to really focus on the battle.

    Beginner battleships?

I can't think of any particular bad habits they might teach other than maybe expecting your BB to not be slow compared to other ships. The only point is that they require a bit more fore-thought than other lines to work well, which may not be ideal for a beginner at BBs or the game. Edit: They also tend to melt more quickly under HE-spam than most other lines which is on the one hand good because it teaches you not to over commit and to disengage but on the other hand bad because it discourages tanking and could lead to a back-line long range play-style. Most important point in a BB though, until you have enough experience to judge when to change keep AP loaded at all times and aim for broadsiding enemies. unless you know you're gonna fire at a DD next, in that case feel free to load HE.

    Beginner battleships?

They suffer from low caliber (for their tier) form mid-tier onwards though, so you need to be more adept at finding and creating situations where you can get a nice broadside form the enemy.

    Beginner battleships?

The Japanese and USN lines are a good start. Classic BB gameplay without any gimmicky traits.

Wichita, how do I get the best out of this?

The best thing you could do is go back to the Omaha and start going up the USN heavy cruiser line. Heavy cruisers are some of the more demanding ships to play well in this game, so the best course would be to train the playstyle from the bottom up.
