Any cheat or aim assist or whatever you'd like to call them would only help you aim correctly on targets that are moving in a straight line at constant speed anyway. Erratic changes to your speed and direction would throw such systems off immediately. Players on the other hand can quite quickly recognise when you're sailing in a predictable pattern like WarburtonLee commented, so try to avoid doing that. And sometimes it's just that they get into your head and can accurately predict which way you'll turn next. That comes with experience like others have said. Now if someone did come up with an aim assist that analysed the targets movements to recognise possible patterns and make predictions based on that, I think they'd deserve to use it. That'd be some feat!

Do you know what the first rule for surviving in traffic is? Always assume everyone else is an idiot. In other words you always have to be ready to react when someone else makes a stupid move. The same applies here, except the consequences of when things go wrong are infinitely less severe. So NO, it's always your job to avoid such situations. Not that you always succeed tho. Has happened to me as well. The same story: an Enemy Tirpitz was sailing into our cap and I sent my torps to stop him and completely failed to pay attention to a friendly who was sailing to intercept him. Pink is not fair game. If you kill a pink teammate, you'll become pink yourself. Or cause enough damage for that matter.

You're probably right for now. I think it's a process. Hopefully WG notices the results of this poll, which I think are quite telling already, and they might get them thinking in the right direction. It will take time, but I think eventually we'll get to a setup which will benefit all parties.
-
By the way, personally, I've been wanting an Atago for a while now. But since I quite recently made some purchases from the premium shop, for the moment I can't justify spending the amount of money I'd need to to get the amount of dubloons It would take. If WG announced that there would be a permanent way to grind for dubloons in-game I'd spend 30€ tomorrow on the 7000 dubloons pack to get me that much closer tho. I'm probably not the only one. For now however, I'm holding off and making due. ...and WG is missing out on potential income.
-
That would be a token gesture that would have no affect and not benefit anyone. Plus such system could be abused in so many ways... I vote for good old work to earn your dubloons. I like your outside-the-box thinking tho I agree, it shouldn't be a substitute for the premium shop - but a (meaningful) supplement. If done correctly it could noticeably increase WGs earnings, I believe. And thus benefit the long-term success of a game we all love to play! Why wouldn't they - if it put more money in their pockets? Which I strongly believe it would!

A question of morality. Was I right or wrong? What would you have done?
mrk421 replied to Tigdam's topic in Archive
I feel for you man! I have played close to 2000 games in total and I've never witnessed abuse on the scale you described. So at least you'll know it's relatively rare. I've seen plenty of unpleasant people in the chat though and I have no problem reporting them and if they're really annoying I disable messages from them. In your situation I'd probably done that first and in case they were really bad, ask my other teammates to report them as well. And try to continue with my own game if possible. I have exited to port when I was still alive and before the match had finished on one occasion. But it was a different situation: the match was almost over, I was the last one alive and we were losing badly, so I just wanted to skip the last few seconds. I don't think they even managed to kill me before the time ran out... If some of my teammates were outright out to get me and attacking me, I would possibly do the same, so more-less what you did. As for ways to fix these kinds of things from happening. I think one way to at least better the situation would be to make use of the karma system. It could be made that if a person has accumulated a lot of bad karma, they would acquire teamkiller status. And any further reports would add to that as if they'd caused further team damage. Since after a certain point players lose the ability to do friendly damage as all of it is reflected back to them, this way they'd at least not be able to bring anyone down with them - at least not directly. An added punishment could be also that they could lose their ability to use the chat. This could help get rid of some of the a**holes. Edit: Well apparently, according to this thread that is actually how it works, at least concerning the ability to use chat. -
FULL CAPTAIN SKILL TREE SUGGESTION POLL
mrk421 replied to aleksandrov2's topic in General Discussion
Of course, we'd all like to be able to research all the skills with all of our captains. BUT having to make a choice can also be a valuable lesson. As long as you have meaningful choices to make (which with the current tree is not really the case). -
Exactly! Why not. It wouldn't really matter much how it was implemented exactly, as long as it was at least somewhat impactful. My claim is, that it would also benefit WG if they did it by increasing sales from the premium shop. I firmly believe that it would attract a lot of new customers who don't want to spend a whole lot of money, but would be willing to spend a little, if it was possible to work up the difference in-game. Looking at the results from the 2nd question of the poll, about 2/3 of the people who have answered share my opinion. Arguably sales could also be increased by lowering the prices in the premium shop significantly, perhaps 20-30%. That's probably true. But I would argue, that my suggestion would actually result in a bigger impact. Because this way many people would commit harder to playing the game and the more they play, the higher the chances that they'd develop a desire or need for something that can only bought for dubloons (like prot slots, captain retraining or premium ships). Imagine someone who really wants to own the Tirpitz, but is not willing to spend 70€ (or was it 80?) to purchase it. But they might be willing to spend 30! Now they might buckle and spend the 70€ regardless, but would probably feel bad afterwards. OR, if it was possible to grind for Dubloons, they could spend 30€ to buy 7000 dubloons and commit themselves maybe for the next 6 months to earn enough dubloons to eventually buy their shiny ship! Can you imagine the impact that could have for the game as a whole?!

FULL CAPTAIN SKILL TREE SUGGESTION POLL
mrk421 replied to aleksandrov2's topic in General Discussion
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad I got your idea right, in which case I'm in full support. Also, bumping the thread, because I think the ideas are excellent and more people deserve to read them I don't know it for a fact either, but that's my understanding. -
Gold to dubloons will never happen, I agree. And shouldn't. Because there's so many ways to efficiently earn gold: premium ships, premium account, signal flags, all of them combined, daily bonuses to name some. I still haven't heard a convincing argument why a way to grind for dubloons* would be a bad idea though. I mean cold hard physical labour type of grind Edit: *if implemented reasonably
-
I completely agree! Which is why in the original post I suggested the dubloons would be awarded based either on the damage you do to the enemy team or BASE xp (no daily bonuses of any kind would modify it). Perhaps you missed it, because I put it in the spoilers fearing the post would get too long otherwise. IMO the only way it would make any sense is, if it was based purely on grinding AND not be very efficient at all. Like you'd earn perhaps a few tens of dubloons per day after several hours of play time. Do you think that would be acceptable? Like iJoby said, over time they'd build up... Like Celandri I don't think it would be good to tie it to any ingame missions. IMO it should be purely grind based.

The "Birthday Achievements": here is a list of how to unlock each achievement, and the rewards..
mrk421 replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
Does anyone here like numbers? I did some calculations in my head I thought might be fun to share: consider the Big Roll achievement, which requires you to earn 1M credits over any number of battles. This achievement has been earned in the EU by over 86 000 people. It's probably safe to assume that a lot of those players have earned way more than 1M credits. So within about a week, the EU playerbase have collectively earned probably well in excess of 200 billion (200 000 000 000) credits! That's at least 10 000 Yamato's (or any other T10) worth of credits - in a week!!! I thought it was quite impressive... so decided to share it with you. Now granted, that's earnings before any expenses, so not profit. But on the other hand I was very conservative with the numbers. -

I checked a few minutes ago and all in all in EU there have been close to 700 000 achievements awarded! IMPRESSIVE!!! -

Well, the idea that it required achievements with all different ship classes was shut down. And it seems the reports are too inconsistent to confirm that it requires a certain number of other achievements - some people have gotten it with only 7 other achievements, others along with their 9th... The jury seems to be still out on this one. Perhaps it is just a damage thing or who knows. I hope they will reveal it after the event is over. -
FULL CAPTAIN SKILL TREE SUGGESTION POLL
mrk421 replied to aleksandrov2's topic in General Discussion
Great ideas aleksandrov2! I can see that you put a lot of effort into this and I agree with your premise for having more OPTIONS. Regarding some of the criticism I think the following post sums up a lot of it: To which I would reply... There are already very strong skills in the skill tree, these are the "no-brainer" skills that most players choose. So apparently it is fine with WG. And I agree. Captain skills, if they are to be in the game at all, should have an impact. The OP is not advocating to buff the already strong skills - in fact in the skill tree he proposed most of the strongest skills were suggested to be left unchanged (or even nerfed by moving them to higher tiers). The idea is, as far as I understand, to make some of the competing skills equally viable so that the players could choose different skills based on their preferred play style and not be at a clear disadvantage. So that whichever type of game play you like - be it all about DPM, or survivability or stealth - all play styles had strong captain skills to support them. In my opinion that would be a very welcome option, so KUDOS to you aleksandrov2. For the most part I agree with the OPs proposals for changes, but I'd like to point out at least one part which I think could not be implemented in the suggested manner -

Getting at least one achievement with all ship classes... Hrm. I like that! Sounds quite plausible. So theoretically you could get it with as few as 4 other achievements in total, as long as you get each one with a different class of ship. I hope that's the condition, cause that would be quite cool I think. Edit: this theory holds in my case, since I got my King of the Party achievement along with the Run Admiral Run in my CV which was the fourth ship class I got an achievement with. Edit2: I hope WG will reveal the actual conditions after the event is over -
An excellent post mate! I'm absolutely loving my Budy and the advice given above will make you feel the same way. Plus I thought that the ship was very playable even in its stock configuration, which can't be said about a lot of other ships.

Great thread! Lots of good information here. ...but also a bit of confusion still it seems. I want to reiterate that for the Life and Soul the compliment has to be given while the battle is still ongoing. I made at least one player's day yesterday when I complimented them during the battle and they got both the L&S and King of the Party from that battle. It won't trigger when you compliment in the post-battle screen. So don't waste your compliments. Another one that seems to be very confusing is the King of the Party. People seem to get it at varying times and there doesn't seem to be a real consensus on it. I myself got it after 9 achievements, missing the L&S and I read someone getting it with only 7 other achievements. So maybe it's not related to other achievements after all. I had a thought that perhaps it could be tied to the total damage you do or number of ships you sink. What do you think? -
I second that. Also, am I the only one who'd appreciate a button to display all/hide all armour sections in one click instead of having to select them one by one? Would be a big QOL improvement imo...

0.5.11 Cap circle border visual changes (3D and minimap)

What was wrong with the buoys? We want the buoys back! -
My experience from last night with about 10 battles in this mode is that it leads to very chaotic, or "exciting" battles that are over quite quickly. And if you're a DD trying to rush to the middle, that's basically a death sentence - at least when there are other ships than BBs around. As I understand, that was more-less how it was intended to be, but I think it's a bit too much at the moment. So as it stands at the moment, I'm not a big fan of this mode, but with a few tweaks I could see it having great potential. Some changes I would propose to make this mode better: - right now the points generation is too fast. It should be lowered. - In fact I think the outermost zone should award the most points, maybe something like: inner - 1 point per 3 s; mid - 1 point per 2 s; outer - 3 points per second. That way you'd force the fleets to close in on each other to stay at least in the outer zone to deny enemy massive points, while still allowing room for some tactical gameplay. - I would recommend to increase the size of the outermost zone to be of the same order or slightly larger in diameter than the maximum firing range of the highest tier battleships that can enter the particular map. Or you know, whatever size you deem appropriate, but larger than it is now. Of course you'd also have to take care to minimise the possibilities to sit in the cap zone while behind and island safe from enemy fire. - the cap zones don't necessarily have to be at the center of the map. For example on the Strait map, they could be around the current A or C cap with the opposing fleets spawning at the other side facing each other. This way they'd most likely have to engage each other already on their way to the cap zones. I think these changes would achieve the goal of having the opposing fleets engage each other in exciting battle without it turning into complete chaos.

Love this feature! I think it's a great addition to the game. And please keep it so that you can see the armour of all ships not just the ones in your port. Like many others I'd also like to have the possibility to directly compare the armour layouts and thicknesses of different ships/upgrade levels of the same ship. I think it's wonderful that you can switch on and off different sections of the ship's armour. On that note one thing I felt that would be useful when exploring the armour layouts would be a button to display the full armour in one click instead of having to switch each section back on individually. On a related topic: while playing with the armour viewer it occurred to me that another feature that would be very handy would be the possibility to see the values for the penetrating power of your main armament shells. I.e. what thickness armour a particular shell will be able to penetrate at 5, 10 and 15 km range.

This So the OP will probably never read some of the useful advice given in this thread. But it's helpful for some other people who might be frustrated...

My thoughts on the Two Brothers: The updated textures look great, but I'm not a fan of the new topography. The reworked islands seem very artificial and unnatural and don't look like anything that would exist in the real world. So every time I play on this map now I feel like I'm in a simulation rather than some place around the world oceans. For me this disrupts the immersion I feel when playing, which for this map is worse than any other I've played. I hope this is not the direction future maps and map updates are heading.
