IJN Light cruiser line in roadmap

I am not really looking forward to this new tech tree, for two main reasons: 1. Mostly paper or fictional ships (two real ones at most) 2. 155 mm Mogami will be gone, at least at tier 8. The best we can hope for is a premium 155 mm Mogami class cruiser at tier 8. My prediction: Agano will be at tier 5, some 8-gun version of it at tier 6 (I have seen mentioned that there were some historical plans for such a thing), then a 155 mm Mogami class cruiser at tier 7, but without the CA plating, HE pen or good concealment of the current tier 8 version, likely also with worse reload. Tier 8 plus is probably gonna be some sort of WG fiction. Oyodo is a possibility at tier 7, but I find it very unlikely, since she is barely larger than the Agano class and only has 6 guns, all mounted at the bow, and no torpedoes. Granted, they could add torpedoes instead of the floatplanes, but I'd rather have the actual Oyodo as a premium at some point and not some Frankenstein version of it with artificially improved stats. Overall, not excited about those news.
  2. That's what I feared. Any reason why? The signals are already in the game, they masts are there on all the ships, why not let us aesthetically individualise our ships a little more? Could you bring the question up with the people responsible?
  3. Just for clarification: the current signals will also be available as purely visuals? I would like that very much, since I can then finally flag my ships - symmetrically - with signals without having to take into account their performance boosts or how many I have left.

    the "carry harder!" thread

I've had 2k base xp on losses every once in a while, but never at tier 5. Really annoying, since we might have been able to win if I had just a minute or two more time. Would have been over 3k base

    Moskva got sunk

Thanks. It's about what I thought. Mostly a symbolic victory and with generous impact on morale for both sides, but not actually turning the tide of the fighting for the port cities.

    Italian DD Builds?

Right now I'm thinking exactly the same build, although you only need the turret traverse increase on Adriatico and Attilio Regolo, up to tier 8 the turrets turn fast enough. From my experience with tiers 4 to 7, concealment first is still the way, like almost every other DD. I would say that AFT is necessary later on. It is less effective than on other DDs because it's percentage based, but occasionally it's very useful to just get one or two more salvos on a fleeing DD or when kiting away yourself. You ill still go dark pretty quickly.
  7. Orkan, Neustrashimy (I think).

    Server down?

I got thrown out of the game as well, so mybe not just you.

    Moskva got sunk

Yeah, I guess most losses in ships in "modern" naval warfare accounts to vessels one might describe more as "boats" rather than "ships", being well under 1000 tons. So, the sinking of Moskva is a rather significant moment in naval history, being the first large warship sunk in combat for 40 years.

    How do you like Carnot?

Horizontal dispersion is identical, vertical dispersion is identical (because they have almost the same range) and sigma is identical as well. Sounds like identical accuracy to me. And while Carnot's ballistic arcs and AP pen are better, the difference is minimal (e.g., at 20 km, Ägir's shells take 0.7s longer to arrive and have 9 mm less penentration, but still enough to citadel any cruiser). Maybe it's simply confirmation bias because you feel more comfortable in Carnot? Nothing wrong with that.

    How do you like Carnot?

Don't they have the exact same accuracy?

New Ships — Closed test 0.11.4 (DB 310)

I had some hope that the tier 8 would be a refitted Admiral class, since they haven't shown it yet, but then I read the post below the pictures and the hope vanished. Obviously, having only 8 guns would break gun number progression and WG can't have that, so we get a boring alternative. Seriously, why did they not just put the refitted Admiral at tier 7 and then go on with all the [enter letter of choice here]3? And G3 even has the wrong gun calibre as well for no reason (i.e. no overmatch advantage, same thing they did with Zieten and Rupprecht). I was originally looking forward to British battlecruisers, but already feel deflated after reading the dev blog.

Fun tier 6 premium ships for operations?

Only the larger guns (234 mm upwards) have improved penetration, the 203 mm/8 inch guns have the standard 34 mm. For the tech tree only Drake and Goliath get the improved HE pen, everything until Albemarle does not.

Fun tier 6 premium ships for operations?

Not sure why you would call London's HE "improved". One London HE shell does 50 more max damage than one of Pensacola's HE shells and London has only 8 guns guns at the same reload. Devonshire has noticeably better HE than London (more damage and higher fire chance, I guess you could call that one improved), as well as better AP shells, a bit more range, reloads faster and has a standard heal instead of London's minitiature one. London gives up a lot for that smoke. Devonshire is way better for ops, imo, but I would still prefer light cruisers. Once you know the spawn points and the AI's targeting practice, staying alive is not an issue.

Fun tier 6 premium ships for operations?

For cruisers: De Grasse and Duca d'Aosta, both are fast and have decent DPM, which are imo the most important factors in operations. Molotov is decent as well with her insane guns, but she cannot overmatch t5 cruisers (contrary to all the 203 mm armed CAs) and does not have the CL DPM, so she lacks behind a little. Others mentioned London, but I find her quite terrible in ops because of her low range, anemic AP and bad DPM. For battleships: Prinz Eitel Friedrich for the secondary memes or Dunkerque. Again, both are fast and reload more quickly than most BBs. Repulse or Novorossyisk could be fine as well, but I have not played them very often in ops, so can't say much about them. For destroyers: Only one I would really recommend here: Aigle. She has excellent DPM (second for t6 DDs behind only Farragut) and big guns that can citadel cruisers of which there are plenty in ops. Extra speed boost and very high damage torps too, and her bad concealment doesn't really matter in operations.
  16. Can someone explain to me what the issue is? Yes, having CVs and especially subs in the game is annoying as hell, but it is the unfortunate reality of the game. Apart from that, I don't see what's wrong. All tier 10, no stupid tier 11 or poor uptiered tier 8.

    Update 0.11.2 - Bug reports

I just had a game where I got sunk by sub torpedoes that curved into me (at least it looked like that to me) despite me last being spotted over one minute earlier and not being pinged either. I'll include the replay: I was last spotted with about 14:30 left, got sunk at about 13:30 (thereabouts). Was that sub just incredibly lucky and my eyes deceived me or did those torps really curve towards me? 20220325_181640_PASC707-Flint_37_Ridge.wowsreplay
  18. Small steps in the right direction, I guess. So, Gearing and others getting the treatment when?

    Kongo class model inaccurate

Agreed, although they occasionally did in the past, e.g. Tirpitz - Bismarck. Same case as Roma - Veneto, but no reworked model. Really sad, especially because we know that the people creating the models almost always do a great job. Too busy with tier 11 and submarines, unfortunately.

    Ita DDs (finally)

That would take you up to tier 10 though Only tiers 8 and 9 were not real ships.

Update 0.11.2: Italian Destroyers. Part 1

Every single of the new Italian tech tree destroyers up to tier 7 has a lower gun range than concealment with the stock range module, for example. Also, you know it's possible to turn off bold letters?

Update 0.11.2: Italian Destroyers. Part 1

I'm just happy that we get a line with mostly historical ships. Only two of nine did not exist, and of those one was at least planned (tier 8). Only the tier 9 is a WG fabriction, and even that can be argued as a "what-if the Italians had decided to built a Tashkent for themselves". Would have loved to see the Comandanti Medaglie d'Oro somewhere in there, but it could have been worse. Ultimately, it doesn't matter whether they are good or not, they look good and are mostly historical, so they have my approval. It's just a nice respite from all the other crap that is going on in WoWs (mostly subs and tier 11).
  23. So the ten tier system that has been one of the few constants since the game has started is finally being axed for good. It's up to tier 11 now with gimmicks overload and almost everything made up. Yeah, edited* WG. Sorry about the language, but it's hard to express my disappointment without getting into a full-on rant which I don't have the energy for anyway, so this has to suffice. edit: watch the language please!

New Ships — 0.11.3 Closed Testing (DB 291)

Two historical ships, okay. Says a lot though that one of them is a CV that was not even completed. And the other one is conveniently a ship that can use a slightly modified existing model. Then open the box of gimmicks, voilà. For short: Not interested in the slightest in either.
