Just played a random Hermes operation. The last battleship (the second Gneisenau coming in from distance) did not not show up, so it was literally impossible to get the secondary objective of destroying 5 BBs done. We also did not get the heal zone in the middle of the operation, so of course (especially) the cruisers that got focused by the BBs earlier could not heal up and died soon after. The op is challenging enough in randoms without those issues. 20221001_124901_PZSC107-Chumphon_s09_LePVE.wowsreplay

New Ships — Closed Testing 0.11.10 (DB 373)
BruceRKF replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
It is still astounding to what lengths WG goes to bring their own fantasies into the game (and all on high tiers, obviously) instead of putting more real(-ish) ships in the game. As for the next tech tree: seriously, hybrid BBs are your choice? Instead of, I don't know, Commonwealth DDs, a second European DD line, a proper US BB split (enough left to go from tier 4 with little paper) or, if you want more paper ships, Commonwealth cruisers, for example? At least we get one real ship... at tier 3 -
Got insulted for not helping the team, accused of being a noob and advised to uninstall. You know, just the usual.
-
Why though? Why not give the bots a bit more variety based on the team's composition. It's most glaring to me in Aegis, so I will use that as an example, but the principle is the same for all operations: How about a Fuso or Mutsu in instead of a Nagato when the team is on average a bit lower tier. Or an Ashitaka instead of endless Nagatos, just for variety. Or mabye a higher tier ship instead of supercharged lower tier ones every once in a while (e.g. Amagi/Kii instead of supercharged Nagatos, and Mogami and Atago instead of Myokos). Plenty of opportunities to suit the AI composition to the team composition.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
BruceRKF replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Mainly playing operations these days, to get the birthday stuff done with t6-8 ships and then use the rewards on t5, 9, 10 -> no random subs, arms race or tier 11. Even get some decent games there once in a while, like this one. -
Thanks, didn't know you could move the ships. Stupid of me not to try XD. So now if you could turn them as well... Funny thing is, the first couple of games I played the large ships were not always in the corners.
-
I played a couple of Strikes now in the browser armoury. One thing I noticed: The large ships (four and five points) are always in the corners for both playes which guarantees those two to be sunk immediately both for me and the AI. Doesn't matter how often I click to rearrange my ships. Very annoying. Am I the only one with that problem?

Update 0.11.8: Seventh Anniversary of World of Warships
BruceRKF replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Do we get a captain reset, if only for the Italian BB captains? For now, gun feeder might actually be worth it. Before, shell switiching would still take more than 16s (t7+), so you might as well shoot what you had loaded, so I did not bother take the skill. On the other hand, I play them so rarely, so why bother... -
So, how many paper tier 10 RN cruisers do we have now? Do we already need two hands to count them? "Renown as of 1944 is less suited to the progression of the British battleship branch than her researchable counterpart. The Renown '44, if placed at Tier VI in the branch, would surpass even the Tier VII Rooke in terms of AA and secondary guns." Well, I guess you will have to remove two thirds of Queen Elizabeth's long range AA guns as well then, considering they are way better than King George V's. As for Renown being available for free: I am not going to get my hopes up that it will be anything less than a massive and tedious grind. Regarding submarines, I agree with @guy_incognito79. The only small ray of light is Leipzig.

Do we get a captain reset for the Italian BBs? I might actually consider using the skill on them now.

First of all, let's see if we can keep this thread open by staying civil despite the topic and keeping sentiments in check... Now to the topic at hand: It seems that the Russian Black Sea flagship Moskva was heavily damaged by Ukrainian missiles and later sunk while being towed to port. I cannot be quite sure, but could this be the largest warship sunk (by enemy fire, not accidents and whatnot), since the Belgrano during the Falklands war? Since my interest in warship lies largely with the all-gun period, so up to WW2 and slightly beyond (like WoWs), I do not know much about Cold War era or newer warships (I feel like I really should up my knowledge about modern warships). Therefore, I would appreciate it if someone could shed some light as for the (absolute or relative) capabilites of a Slava-class missile cruiser and the significance of the sinking. Apart from seemingly being quite a boost to/blow on morale, depending from which side you are looking on. The news I read are rather vague about this for now, since I guess they don't have experts at hand quickly either.

Dutch destroyer Tromp — Closed testing 0.11.8 (DB 353)
BruceRKF replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
I thought that 38 mm seemed a bit much for a ship of that size. 15 to 25 mm sounds more reasonable. Thanks for that! -
Dutch destroyer Tromp — Closed testing 0.11.8 (DB 353)
BruceRKF replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
Initial stats do not look promising. I feel like Tromp is giving up too much for the airstrike gimmick. She is the slowest t10 DD, has catastrophic gun DPM, only three (mediocre) torpedoes per side, no versatility with consumables (no smoke, no heal, no hydro) and she is a huge target as well. I would have prefered for her to have a spotter plane instead of (or along side) the airstirke. Would be unique for a DD and would be a nod to the real ship carrying a floatplane. But I guess the model in game is the 1942 version (?) that had the plane facilities removed. Decreasing the reload on the guns is a possibility to improve the ship, but considering the historical guns fired even slower (5-6 rounds per minute), I am fine with the guns being on the slower side. Instead, Tromp could get some armour, similar to Khaba or Elbing (wikipedia says she had a 38 mm belt, but I am not sure whether to trust that). A heal and/or hydro would fit her as well, considering she was classified as a (very) light cruiser. I feel that she definitely needs something. -
You have your facts wrong. The vast majority of European DDs is Swedish, not Dutch. In fact, there is not a single Dutch DD in the tech tree and only one premium (Friesland) which wasn't even supposed to be there anymore after giving the Dutch their own category and was only left because of possible issues with compensation (Groningen with identical stats was put in instead). And yes, Tromp was considered a cruiser, but so was the Capitani Romani class (i.e. Attilio Regolo, Italian t10 DD). Now, if you look at size and displacement, Tromp is both slightly smaller and lighter than that one. As far as I am aware, the Tromp class were built to be flotilla leaders for destroyers and therefore it's fine to have them in the game as DDs, imo. As a cruiser you would have the huge problem of which tier to put her at, since her health pool (based on displacment) would be tiny (little more than half of Könisgberg). DDs get a more favourable calculation for HP. To make her a bit more unique and in keeping with her cruiser status, they could give Tromp some armour, like the second German DD line (tiers 9 and 10 of which could also be considered cruisers) or Khabarovsk.

World of Warships 7th Anniversary, updated Operations, Battleship mini-game, and other news — 0.11.8 Closed testing. (DB 354)
BruceRKF replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
Indeed. And she didn't even have the improved heal back then. -
I don't mind the random choice of op, actually, spices things up a bit. If you don't like the randomness, there is always the ingame operations chat where you can find like-minded captains with whom to division and choose your operation.
-
So about those Japanese CLs. Agano is obviously the only real ship in there and Gokase looks like it could be the planned, but never built Agano-kai class. Omono looks to me like an Oyodo with everything behind the funnel (mostly her floatplane handling equipment) swapped for more guns. Those high tier ones, I have no idea. My guess would be either WG fantasy with some obscure napkin drawings as justification. Or, alternatively, possibly CA-hulls with fake armament, like Hipper to Mainz, but incredibly ugly. Anyone can shed any light on them?

World of Warships 7th Anniversary, updated Operations, Battleship mini-game, and other news — 0.11.8 Closed testing. (DB 354)
BruceRKF replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
Well, you can always look into the in-game operations chat for a division. Right now, it's mostly Narai of course, but I reckon when there are more operations and ships to choose from, there will be people who would play those ops. I don't really mind the random operation choice either, to be honest, since it forces you to adapt. However, they would have to relax the ship choice rules for Hermes and Cherry Blossom. The former used to be only available for Allied cruisers and French battleships, while the latter was Allied cruisers only. I am just glad that they bring operations back. Maybe I won't have to stop playing the game completely and can find sanctuary there. -
So much paper! 10 new ship announced, ONE of them actually existed. And those Japanese CLs are incredibly ugly from t7 on (so, basically all the WG fantasy ships) as well. Just look at those high tier CL turrets, wtf? And more tier 11. Glad I toned my WoWs playing down to mostly operations if playing at all.

Request: WG please return the Equal Speed Charlie London and Zulu signals as visual-only flags to the game.
BruceRKF replied to Yamashiro42's topic in General Discussion
Seconded. Just make all the former economic signals purely cosmetic items. You could even put a small credit cost on them and I wouldn't even mind. I just hate that with the new system it's hard to impossible to get a nice looking signal mast. -
Nice short analysis, but I have one slight correction: Ägir was never a secondary ship, apart from during testing. She had standard 5(-ish) km base range before the commander rework. Now she has a healthy 7.6 km, but as you implied, there are no skills to make the scondaries work for cruisers. As for the topic: I have all three and like Azuma best. There is nothing more satysfying than comfortable gunnery. The turrets turn a little slowly, but apart from that from all the tier 9 "supercruisers": She has the best HE shells and second best AP shells behind only Kronshtadt (this point can be argued, since while penetration is excellent, Alaska has improved pen angles). You can citadel cruisers at basically an range. She also has comfortable ballistics and better accuracy than the others. What she cannot do is tank. Large health pool, but useless armour and a very large target. She is not a ship that can carry a game easily.

Why do IJN DDs not get a Gunboat at the same tier as every other nation?
BruceRKF replied to Sipsy301's question in Q&A Section
Another reason why swapping any of Fubuki/Hatsuharu or Akatsuki/Shiratsuyu would be a no-go is actually historical accuracy/progression (rare these days in WoWs). The Hatsuharu class was a successor to the Fubuki class, intended to have the same performance in a smaller ship. Of course, that was not really possible, so the class lost some guns and torpedo launchers. The Shiratsuyu-class is essentially an improved Hatsuharu and sometimes considered a subclass, same as the larger Fubuki and Akatsuki. Keeping the near-sister ships together in the same tree makes complete sense. -
One thing I don't like about taking the signals out of the exterior tab: You can't see which flag goes where. I want to apply signals symmetrically if possible, but ships are different in regard to in which order they put the signals on the masts. So I have to go back to the exterior tab after putting the signals on to check. It's nothing major, but it's annoying and my OCD demands that I do it properly
-
While that is a danger, on the other hand you also always know how much you actually have of each bonus, no matter how many are "mounted" on ships. In the past, you might have had dozens of flags/camos more than you thought because you had auto-equip on and they were strewn all over your ships...
-
Of course I do. I also want to be a billionaire. Which one is more likely to happen? Don't answer that...
