    Vampire II or Illinois?

    Personally, I am a sucker for historical ships, so between those two, it automatically means Vampire. Especially since they could not even bother to give Illionis a proper unique superstructure, as was planned for that 3x4 203 Iowa version. Apart from that, Vampire has excellent gun dpm (even better than Daring), which is what is most important in coop. I do not doubt that Illinois can do a lot of damage as well, but since in coop bots will come at you mostly bow-in, the BB dispersion hurts Illinois' damage, while Vampire can hit them easily. Should you ever want to play Vampire in randoms, she is great there too. While only having one torpedo launcher, the torpedoes have good range, speed and damage and reload quickly (similar to Cossack, I guess). She has very decent concealment of 5.8 km and 5 km hydro. Together with the dpm, that is a real threat to enemy DDs. The crawling smoke has advantages and disadvantages and is something to get used to, but can also help with DD hunting, especially in caps, since you can just keep crawling forwards while in smoke and force the enemy DD to bail or fight something they can't see. Can't say much about Illionois, don't have her. Others will have to write and ad for her.

    Update 12.4: European Destroyers

    AP shells for the new destroyers when? That is really all that concerns me about this new patch. I am generally interested in the new DDs (at least up to t8, since real ships till there), but without AP, they are missing so much in utility.
  3. Hello fellow captains! My memory seems to suggest that there was once a mod that made the container ship in port invisible. Am I misremembering? If not, does anyone know where I can find such a mod? I am asking because sometimes the container ship in the background ruins the asthetics of my screenshots

    Trying to get the thread back to its actual topic, i.e. the new ships: does anyone have further information about the historical designs of those two, especially Numancia? Searching through the internet has given me a little bit about Ruggiero di Lauria (those guns are too far apart for an Italian ship btw ), but I couldn't find anything about Numancia beyond WG's description of the ship. Also: more 30 mm overmatch, hurray!

    Aren't there still some countries where Soviet symbols like the hammer and sickle are forbidden? Why are they displayed in WoWs? Talk about having it both ways...
  6. Low tier, CV, submarine and in a DD with awful concealment. What could possibly go right? Glad that they changed the spotting xp mechanics, otherwise I would probably have landed somewhere in the middle of the scoreboard and no one would have been the wiser that spotting targets actually helps.

    I remember this event from the last two years. Some very interesting stuff to see and listen to. Only downside I can recall is that some museums had some technical difficulties with their streams (video/audio quality). Not too surprising I guess, seeing as those museums are all over the world. Nevertheless, looking forward to this one!

    Two hidden gems ingame

    I remember that collection. It is ancient, back when New Orleans was tier 8 (and Cleveland, Pensacola and Baltimore at 6, 7 and 9). Good old times. I guess for newer players it might indeed be worth it to spend the coal on this collection to get the economic benefits if you play those ships somewhat regularly.

    The more I inform myself about the history of the Spanish cruisers, the more I am baffled about the decision to put the 1940s refit of Méndez Núñez at tier 2. The ways I see it, the Spanish did not have that many protected cruisers, but still more than enough to put one of them at tier 2 along with all the other ships of that type we have at tiers 2 and 3. Why put a refit Méndez Núñez at tier 2 when you could make money by selling her as a tier 5 premium, for example? @Seefelder mentioned two far better options for tier 2 already.

    I don't know much about Spanish ships, so I did some quick reading to educate myself a little. First of all, good to see six real ships in the Spanish line, although I have to agree with previous comments that the tier 2 looks a bit out of place. A classic protected cruiser would have done just fine. Especially since the ship the Spanish tier 2 is based on is a tier 3 in the UK tree. Tiers 7 to 10, you guys in the know have to help me out. How close to real designs are they? I did a quick search for the tier 9 Project 138 and it does not look promising. What WG did with it, that is. Using 3x3 234 mm, when the three versions of the projcets seemingly had 4x3 203, 3x2 283 or 2x3 305 mm guns, respectively (according to an old post by the usually well informed Tzoli). On a quick glance, tier 7 looks somewhere in between Trento/Zara(-ish), tier 8 similar to Amalfi, tier 9 very British and tier 10 somewhat like Napoli. Anyone has any insight into the historical accuracy of the ships (not counting secondary/AA guns for now, since WG always messes those up anyway. Just basic hull shape and main armament)? Also, am I the only one who thinks that those German secondary guns look just awful on those cruisers?

    "...are fought in the Arms Race mode". And I'm out. Edit: Didn't even notice that subs were gonna be allowed, since I just skipped to the end of the article to see about the maps/game modes. So that is even more reason not to.
  16. Taking away AP is just plain wrong. Takes away so much for players who know how to use ammo types and want to take advantage of opportunites. HE only? That is literally dumbing it down to tier 1 levels.

    Good to finally see WV44, but I am not sure whether secondary brawler fits her. WV44 is the only good thing about this dev blog though. For a second I thought someone just hit the wrong letter on the keyboard and put in "X" instead of "V" for that European destroyer, but no, they are actually serious. WTF? And Halford carried a catapult for how long anyway, half a year maybe? Hybrid destroyer, obviously, because World of Warplanes is not really a thing anymore, so WoWs has to take over that part... Why not just give her a SPOTTER plane, like she actually had historically? I can't even...

    This. Why do you feel you need to spend your coal right now? Before getting a ship, you could spend some (preferably with coupon) on modules, there are plenty of ships benefitting greatly from e.g. the engine boost modification.

    The whole game is sped up and scaled up, you are right about that, but your example with BB reload is just wrong. Two rounds per minute was pretty normal, some could reload even faster. In fact, gun reload is one the few things in the game that is at least close to historical stats in most cases.

    Initial thoughts on this dev blog: Gonna stop with the tech tree DDs at tier 8, since I cannot stand those WG fabrications at t9 and 10. However, only real ships until then, so that's nice and I am actually looking forward to those. Elli: I love Duca d'Aosta, so I would probably like her, but unless she is available for free, I won't get her. Nottingham: More high tier paper ships, who would have thought. Big nope. Gato: Kill me. Edit: the new DDs are supposed to have bad concealment, and the high tier ones definitely do, but tier 5 to 7? I mean, how is 7 km base for Grom bad? That is better than Akatsuki or Jervis, for example! Her sister on the other hand is the worst of all tier 7 DDs in concealment. Also, why radar?

    Co-op Warship Screenshots In Port.

    Interesting thread. I don't play coop very often, mostly for getting missions done quickly. I play various other ships as well, but these are probably my go-to. Akizuki and Kitakaze (Kure) for shell hits, fires and damage missions. Jaguar (Marseille), Podvoisky and Minsk (Novorossiysk) for kills and torpedo hits (great speed means great yolo), as well as the occasional citadel on cruisers. Riga (Novorossiysk) for citadels and Friedrich der Große (Hamburg) for secondary hits. Not sure why I prefer the t9 over the t10 in coop, but there you go.

    Because everyone has the funds to get enough detonation flags to stick them on every ship all the time, like tier 5 cruisers). You might have enough of them to do that, but not everyone does, especially relatively new players.

    Yesterday was in game where a Königsberg got detonated by the CV one minute into the game. Cannot help but feel sorry for them. Some might say "It could just as well have been detonated by a BB". Technically yes, but a BB has to fire at 20 km or more to hit an enemy ship one minute into the game, giving them plenty of time to avoid the salvo. Against a CV it's "just dodge", giving that it can attack you from point blank range almost immediately after the start of the game. How about a preparation time at the beginning of the match before a CV can launch planes or something? I mean, everyone has to load their guns and torpedoes, CVs don't have to load anything. Even back in RTS CV times, squadrons had preparation times.
