Did you get any British DD-missions from the containers?

I've had Icarus added to Acasta and Jervis today. She probably dropped from one of the containers I was committed to obtain no matter what, thus hanging all the available cloth to Jervis' mast. Salute.
  2. I've faced @Torped1ne's Hakuryu during my streak with Midway. I was somewhat winning the aerial battle but utterly lost the damage and sinking race, which obviously decided the outcome. A bit later, @OttoZander's Henri IV ended top of the team while defending A cap in North with little support aside from the Worcester he was divisioned with. I, OTOH, was having a bit of a nightmare near the middle of the map due to the red CV and his AA division (Midway, Montana, Minotaur). Fortunately our main group was able to push through in the end and I could enjoy the guilty pleasure of harassing a Kidd to death. Salute.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

I've been focused a couple of days with Midway and it paid: 4 carrier-related tasks from Halsey's campaign completed, including the 10M credits one, and stages 1 (100k XP) and 2 (8M credits) for the legendary upgrade also done. I've also had 3 battles above 1M credits: a 1.3M victory slightly shy in points compared to the second one shown (just by 44), another 1.15M victory and a 1.15M defeat. Oh, and getting the mission for Icarus and completing it in the meantime. This battle is from yesterday, and... well, let's say that getting a Kraken was denied in a very unsportmanlike way. Things could have been different if a King of the Sky had been achieved: Personal record in planes shot down, ousting Hiryu from her long attained throne, and I'm pretty sure that also personal record in base XP with CVs (the overall one still belonging to Missouri with 3k-something): Not Midway but Shimakaze in this case, featuring red Conqueror and Worcester: 92k damage dealt to them (the rest is from a Musashi and some shots to a red Shimakaze). They found their W, found their D, at least for a while, and then forgot that the keyboard exists: Salute.

Did you get any British DD-missions from the containers?

I'll wait for my input in the poll until all is over (or more probably forget about it). I got Acasta mission during the first week and the one for Jervis yesterday, no premium containers bought for now. I agree with @Admiral_H_Nelson: at least Acasta feels like becoming a free slot, silver and a captain to be trained for something else, we'll se what happens with Jervis. Salute.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

I could have chosen a different one because of their overall weirdness (first match with Shimakaze, Double Strike and brown alert due to a Henri IV -sunk- appearing 4km away from behind an island while below 3k HP, smoke on cooldown and the tubes still reloading; second game with Minotaur, I pop radar -funnily enough, I was the only radar ship in the battle- because of being spotted by 3 DDs and by the time it expires they were no more thanks to the team focusing them) but my first battle today with Minotaur should do: Apart from that, I've been carried (no shame admitting it) for a 5 star, Tactical Expertise in operation Dinamo at first try with Aigle, also first time taking her out. Scoring hits on the boats was a lottery and I even entered the fields twice but managed to get out without hitting a mine. And I completed Shimakaze's legendary upgrade yesterday. It's going to accumulate a lot of dust in the inventory, though. Salute.

Low frame rate at low utilisation

It might be "faulty" coding, but very few pieces of software are free from that, because... A lot of the current software is still devised as running in a single-core, single-thread CPU, with little to no concern put into fine tuning the management of resources. Under such circumstances it's no wonder that most computational time is done by one thread/core while the others stay idle. The couple of programs I've seen that make a somewhat efficient use of multi-cores were almost purpose-built, and in both cases belonged to academic and research institutions. Salute.

    Is Karma bugged?

AFAIK, you only receive report messages if you've been reported more than once during a battle, i.e. by more than one person. Not to the extreme OP said (being notified of a +1 in karma yet actually being -2 since the previous check), but I've seen lots of compliment notifications without the counter going up, which I assume are due to someone else also giving a report. Salute.

Do we need 3 different daily resets ?

To be fair, it's 02:00, 05:00 and 06:00 UTC all year round, respectively. Even if having different resets is a bit silly, the servers don't bother about local or summer/winter times. Salute.
  9. You wouldn't believe the level of butchering English and specially German have had to suffer in touristic areas along the southern coast of Spain. Just an example from about 5 years ago: in a menu from a restaurant, "macarrones" ("Makkaroni") translated as "große Schläger" (the logic behind that: "macarra" can be roughly translated as "Schläger", add the augmentative ending "-ón" then the plural ending "-es" and there you have it). My German might be quite rusty but I still can notice when a translation reeks of Google Translate and lack of double checking. Salute.

    Directive bug?

Notice that it says top 3 in base XP among both teams, so sorry but you don't qualify with that outcome: the top 3 are the red Zao, Shimakaze and Richelieu. If you've had, say, 1500+ base XP (i.e., top of your team and a battle worth being in the "carry harder!" thread) then yes. Salute.

    sub vs sub

There were a few passive homing (i.e., acoustic) torpedoes like the G7es "Zaunkönig", but their targets were a lot more noisy than a submarine running on batteries. Also running depth for torpedoes could be adjusted before launch (something that hasn't been implemented in WoWS, having normal and deep water torpedoes completely separated instead). In any case, sub vs. sub engagements would have been either surfaced or at periscope depth the way invicta2012 described them, which is how I also expect them to be implemented in the game. Salute.
  12. It's not only that it's become iconic, such aesthetic is closer (with some half organic, half steampunk touch added) to the actual looks of 19th-century submarines like Peral... ...or torpedo rams like HMS Polyphemus: Salute.
  13. Compared to the Germans invading Oslo (Blücher -the newest ship- sailing in first, Emden -the oldest one- last), they're doing it right, and they even have numerical advantage in the "Schwerpunkt". Another proof of AI superiority. Salute.
  14. I've watched it, but my point still stands: the one from The League of Extraordinary Men looks like a Richelieu's hull with Maid of Orleans camo upside down, while the one from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea has the right steampunk feel. The Nautilus II Verblonde posted also has a nice appearance (only the right palette and some minor cosmetics needed) for including it in a Halloween event scenario, although more as a bot than as a playable submarine. Salute.
  15. That's not Nautilus, that's a capsized and sinking hull with the video played backwards. This is a true Nautilus model: Due to the widespread use of USN hull clasification codes (notice that those are the ones commonly used when communicating within the game and in the forum too), yes, the proper one would be SS. I don't really see the submarines working outside of some events or operations, at least not with what's been shown. But it seems that WG managed to get a very workable basic concept: single torpedoes with independent reload (recycled code, since it can be considered a variation of forward-firing launchers in low tier KM DDs) and relatively long arming distance, and limited time for being submerged. One thing that got me intrigued was the fact that the spread was still adjustable between wide and narrow, which could mean that "full" (only 2 or 3, considering the weapon selection down the GUI) torpedo salvoes might be included at the cost of extra reloading time. The biggest issue i can think of when balancing with the other classes is the speed, wich would be heavily buffed, because even the models shown (I recognise one late-war or post-war USN SS and a Type XXI -this one's pretty gorgeous in its steampunk-esque outfit with the clock at the side of the sail-) were so slow IRL that almost any BB from T4 onwards outruns them. Salute. P.S.: If in the end submarine lines are added to the normal PvP game, I wonder if assigning Ashigara's mental model/captain to one of them would help muffling her voice. Gags are certainly not enough.

If you cant beat them, join them! CV

Although I agree with ForlornSailor that learning current gameplay won't help that much after the rework, it does indeed help with other aspects: the top-down perspective provides a more operational sense and the neccessity of reading the whole flow of the battle, not only what's going on in your surroundings. The rework itself is pretty much at the early stages, with nothing more than a rough proof of concept shown. It looks somewhat promising albeit not that much exciting after the hype wears down (all will come down to how it's finally implemented), and years of negligence have made the community skeptical about what to expect. As for the line to follow in order to properly learn current CV play, IJN, no doubt about it: out of both, it's the hard mode for micromanagement, so mastering it at least up to T7 gives an edge when jumping to the USN line later on. You get to the 2/2/2 balanced standard for squadrons faster, which is good getting accustomed to. Finding a lot more Midways in ranked is also a testament to the fact that such squadron complement is the "natural", so to say, one, because Midway is in that sense the true heir of Hiryu, Shokaku and Enterprise. Salute.
  17. Yes, absolutely possible if happening at the end of a battle. Both deadly_if_swallowed and me experienced it (leaving aside the "ship sunk that wasn't there/ship sunk twice" I also experienced and shared on the same thread): Salute.

Carriers are not good for the game

Dead Sea amount of salt or worse. OTOH, such level of salt would make cruisers immune to DWT by floating higher, so... When I attack most big ships I try to go for DoT, many times dealing only the required alfa for the fires and flooding to finish the work ( I scored in a battle 129k damage by flooding on 2 Großer Kurfürsts with Shokaku). Only if I can somewhat ensure an alfa kill (DDs, or other damaged classes) I go for it in earnest. If the rework is kept similar to what is currently shown, those who don't learn how to manage their damage control will be completely obliterated. They already are, but the current whining due to HE spam would become even louder. Salute.
  19. All CVs from T6 onwards, although I haven't bought Midway yet (only unlocked), RN cruisers from Leander onwards, KM BBs from Gneisenau onwards, IJN DDs from Kagero onwards. Keepers in other lines that haven't reached TX are Königsberg, Shiratsuyu, Lyon, Wyoming, St. Louis and Cleveland, and I might buy back Nürnberg and König. Apart from those, I still have low tier RN and MN BBs but haven't decided if selling them or not. The same goes for a few T6 event ships from other lines that I don't intend to grind up in the foreseeable future, if ever. Salute.

Captains - What are they and what do they do

Colonel_Pete and rnat have already pointed you to the corresponding wiki page so I won't extend about it. I'll try to make a simple explanation for better understanding. There are 3 ways you can improve your ship: you can improve its main elements (modules), thus making it sturdier, faster, harder hitting, etc.; you can improve it's secondary elements with upgrades that ease certain aspects (improved survivability of main battery, rudder response, etc.); and finally you can train its crew, whose embodiment is the captain. Upgrades can be directly bought, modules have to be researched (in order to do so you have to play and gain ship experience) then bought, and captain/crew skill points can also be unlocked by gaining their own experience through battles. Modules are pretty straightforward to find: they have their own tab in port. Upgrades are a bit trickier: within the modules' tab, at the bottom, there are 2 sub-tabs named consumables and upgrades so click on the former and you'll be shown the available slots for upgrades and the ones that can fit there. Finally, captain skills are hidden on a different screen that can be accessed by clicking on the captain. The more battles a captain has fought, the more experience he and his crew have, and as a sign of this expertise they develop certain traits (captain skills) that further extend their ship's performance: they are better at handling ordnance and artillery, they are sharper at spotting menaces, they get less tired when fighting fire and flooding... It's then up to you to select which of those traits suit you and your ship better. An advantage captains have is that you can move them from ship to ship, thus not having them stuck to their first command, but whenever they jump onto the new vessel they need to familiarize with all the new equipment and only have mediocre performance on their traits until the process is completed, and the more previous experience the captain has, the harder it becomes for him to readjust (in a similar way to the difficulties in learning humans experience with age). You can haste it by performing an accelerated course, but it'll cost you money. Some low tier ships are quite the headache, but you still have few battles. There's not much that can be done by others about that but advising to watch how others play, either by guides and videos on Youtube or by staying until the battle is over and not quitting immediately after you're sunk, jumping from ship to ship with your mouse or roaming in free camera. Make wise use of your time in lower tiers, because things get to some extent better but a lot harder later on. Salute.

Best Operations for grinding credits and xo?

I've had the bad experience of having one 3-star victory and a defeat(!) as my last tries in Cherry Blossom. In fact, the former could have been another defeat (2 ships left, Lexington dead, and the second airfield suppressed with only 40 seconds remaining). How did those happen? Well, I got accustomed to teams that kept pushing forward so I developed a clockwork routine (sail here, radar at X time mark, focus fire, DefAA at Y time mark, etc.), but the other guys this time weren't enough aggressive, if at all: they let one regiment perish, they arrived at the rendezvous with the CVs after the first air wave had started, they pushed into the bay with 3 minutes left and 3-4 ships remaining... That routine got me killed pretty fast because I was the proverbial nail that stuck out, and current bots are more efficient than average players at hammering down by focusing fire. Salute.
  22. I agree with Aotearas. The only kind of scenario where not having a "physical" ship but planes coming out of nowhere could work would be a standard random battle, or in some operations. I've seen many times in domination or epicentre the bulk of each team reaching the other team's spawn. How to determine the entering point for the squadron then? Not to mention the impotence of not being able to retaliate: I had a battle long ago where, due to faulty autopilot, my Shokaku ended within range of 3 BBs at the very beginning (around 3 minutes into the battle), and I'm sure they were more than happy about being able to reduce my HP to around 2k all by themselves, not being sunk because I managed to break contact. Salute.
  23. Ammo costs were cut off in the days leading to and during Gamescon for every(?) game mode, not only coop. I noticed it too in random battles. And yes, they're back. Salute.

Shima hit me with a volley of 13k+ HE

Death by ramming is/was sometimes depicted as death by torpedo. I know about this because it happened when I rammed my counterpart (we both ended at the same cap with nobody else around, the remaining surface ships having their own battle at the opposite side of the map) while playing Essex a few patches ago. Salute. P.S.: By being depicted I mean in the post-battle results, not during it.

    Why the CV re-work is a wont-work.

Sorry but this isn't accurate, at least not about the learned skills. True, gameplay differs quite a lot, but skills do carry and reinforce each other: when you play CVs you (should) develop more awareness of the whole picture, which improves your non-CV play later on by being able to read what's going on away from you and predict which and where ships will be; when you play non-CVs and face CVs you (should) develop more awareness of your surroundings in order to minimise the impact on your ship by manoeuvring/positioning, which forces you to think about counters/vectors of approach when being the CV; and both require thinking about managing limited resources, which means damage control, repair and/or defensive AA for non-CVs (cooldowns), and plane reserves and timings/squadron cycling for CVs. Yes, when you're reasonably knowledgeable at CVs being the only one to actually glimpse why things went south becomes the main source of frustration, being everything else manageable. You may have a better or worse game yourself, but watching CLs shooting in the open at BBs two tiers above them while ignoring a closer DD, DDs leaving caps and overextending away from any AA cover in order to farm some damage, BBs sailing further from the reds than you, the red AA and radar ships being unscathed almost 12 minutes into the battle... Fortunately I live in a relatively old house with thick walls: if I were living in a more modern flat with their paper-like structure I'd have a couple of cops knocking at my door, warrant in hand, every morning after playing a long CV streak. Salute.
