  1. I've faced @MrWastee's Kidd yesterday, me in Nelson. Not a very good match on my behalf although it was a win (in fact, it was an awful day with RN ships for me, only Nelson being able to attain victories), yet it was funny going "Jaws" towards his smoke and shelling him blindly three or four times. My comment at the beginning was because I'd been facing Kidds quite often and thought "fat chance for a jest" when seeing you in one of the three in that battle. Salute.

Max Number of Replays defaults to 30

I found about it by chance two days ago due to being a recent comment at the related topic in the German forum and, in order to increase the limit, this is the change to do to an XML file, in the same way it was done for activating the replays: Go to WoWS folder (fastest way is right-clicking the game icon/link in your desktop, then select "open file location"), res subfolder. Open engine_config.xml with a text editor, press Ctrl+F (or whatever combination that opens the search options in that editor) and look for "replays". The following XML main and children elements should appear: <replays> <dirPath>replays</dirPath> <pathBase>EXE_PATH</pathBase> <versioned>false</versioned> <maxReplaysToSave>30</maxReplaysToSave> </replays> Change the text (i.e., the number within the element) in <maxReplaysToSave> to the value you prefer (I set mine initially to 300, but am considering to increase it even further). Set it to 0 if you don't want replays to be saved. The fact that replays are now activated by default... well, it's both good and bad: on one hand, now there's no excuse for whiners when asked for a replay to show, considering that the rants are usually due to recent events; on the other hand, and considered from a system administrator perspective, it's ~60MB (a full 20 minutes match occupies a bit more than 2MB, but not many battles last that long) that will be heavily fragmented due to overwritings once you reach the limit. Not that it affects that much, specially if having the game in a SSD, but it's something to be taken into account for HDDs, mainly if it's the only drive the computer has, which is very typical for your average laptop. Salute.

PSA: Aircraft Carrier bots removed from four Operations

Yes, those are all the bot CVs in Newport (Zuiho in the second wave, Hiryu in the last wave if the perimeter is breached, Lex as friendly if not) and Narai (Lex sailing along the eastern border, Ranger in the counterattack waves, the second to last one IIRC). It's quite the dumbing down in some key aspects and I agree that it certainly means no need for AA speccing in those operations. From a CV player perspective (I've completed all of them with 5 stars using carriers) it looks like having a field day, because the ships that could represent a bit of work are now replaced with others lacking DefAA, so they can be targeted with more ease unless they stick to ships equipped with the consumable (basically American and Japanese cruisers, T6 and above). The only change I don't quite get how it would work is switching the friendly Saipan for a Baltimore in Aegis: if its spawn is kept the same, that Baltimore is going to be useless for a long period of time. Salute.

    Legendary Upgrade opinons/debate.

I've got the ones for Shimakaze and Minotaur and neither suit my gameplay. Due to playing her with radar, the smoke effects in Minotaur's don't affect me, but I'm dubious about losing concealed radar window to some illusory incoming dispersion increase. As for Shimakaze, the slightly improved reload for torpedo tubes doesn't compensate making them more sluggish than a Bogue with a knocked-out engine. I'm still grinding the ones for Großer Kurfürst, Midway and Hakuryu, and out of them I only find completely advantageous the last one. The first one is a matter of a trade-off, increasing the theoretical damage output in exchange of a more limited margin for using it (less range for the main battery, so you have to close in, but also less traverse speed that hampers knife-fighting brawls). Midway's... to be honest, I don't know: the extra HP seems fine, but I don't fancy the speed reduction because it affects the chances of fast hit-and-run strikes at the beginning of the match. Salute.
  5. I agree about the harsh environment smoke cruisers currently face, not so much about the tactics in the conclusion (they can be used that way if the map has enough islands, though, but in Ocean, or C cap spawn in Okinawa...). I started playing the high-tier RN CLs with radar slightly after acquiring Edinburgh, and it works providing that you're able to somewhat anticipate when you're likely to be spotted. It's more like an early cap denial and flanking DD hunt work. Minotaur, thanks to the radar outreaching the concealment, is pretty good at covering caps in the open and attracting fire: spotted, activate radar, shoot twice at the red DD (someone might get the kill, and in any case it will turn around and flee) and make half the enemy team expose themselves while wiggling away in order to get around 1M potential damage. The weakest one is Neptune due to the 600m margin between concealment and radar, which is why I switched back to smoke with her. Reliable friendly DDs are pretty scarce unless you belong to a division. True: the minimap circle has made things a bit easier, at least for the first shot, but the spotter plane is still the better tool. Although I tend to fail in following them (partially because I mainly use smoke in IJN DDs, usually ahead full and hardly ever staying inside, thus I subconsciously stick to that gameplay in other ships), the tips you pointed out about right smoke usage are quite spot on. My rule of thumb when I see a red cruiser popping smoke while still moving forward is aiming right at the bow and shooting when fading. That salvo usually has a very nasty outcome with one citadel almost guaranteed if broadsiding. Salute.

    Ships you kept

She's even more steampunk with the Halloween camo. It feels like being an armoured porcupine sailing along the Mississippi. I've kept her because of that. Another silver low tier (<T5) I've kept is Wyoming. I'm not sure why, it could be just liking her handling when I was grinding through and having done a 7-kill draw with her. I've kept all the T6+ CVs in both lines. I can have different challenges that way depending on my mood and where the MM decides to put me. I'm even tempted to get the lower tier ones back too, but then I remember that they lack manual attacks. Ryujo's pretty good as teaching material. I thank the fact that I went up the IJN CV line first: once having the knowledge, the USN one feels in many aspects like easy mode, which means it's not that suited for learning current CV play properly. Lady Lex... well, I'm keeping her basically for historical reasons, because she suffers a lot due to MM and overall capabilities compared to her counterparts. Salute.

Is "Concealment" the new "Situational Awareness"?

Yes, CE is the skill to have. Only IJN CVs (the USN ones can also behave but it's quite a serious contender for the 15 and/or 19 points up the line), Khabarovsk and some specific BB builds seem to be fine without it. And I agree with BeauNidl3 and the others about keeping its influence even after the announced equalising across the board, it's simply such a key element in gameplay. Salute.

NEW PC BUILD - CANNOT WAIT

Holy smokes, my poor eyes! I knew it was going to be bright, but did you really need to make it into an extra lamp for the room? It's a pity that many quality manufacturers (not even Lian Li escaped the trend) have gone quite far into the rabbit hole of gaudy designs and LED nonsense. If you wish to have something actually sober you'll have to look for retailers that still own discontinued items from 5 years ago or more. Either that or going full DIY. I suppose I should dust off, if they still exist, the sketches I drew long ago regarding my ideal PC case and refine them. Salute.
  9. Estaca_de_Bares

What kind of weapon do you prefer?

If I were to choose just one, probably rate of fire. Even in the atomic era more is better than bigger, which is why MIRVs exist and Tsar Bomba was just a test (leaving aside treaties' limitations that pushed things that way). In any case, neither are good enough without platform survivability and vector accuracy. Salute.

NEW PC BUILD - CANNOT WAIT

You forgot to mention the most important element: the power supply. Leaving aside the quality and just based on the CPU and GPU, make it at least 750W (i.e., twice the consumption of the most demanding components) so you can have plenty of room for improvements. Enjoy your new child and I hope it behaves better than the first PC I built from scratch (that one really hated me). Salute.
  11. Sounds fine to me, basically because that was already implemented in "Age of Sail 2" almost two decades ago, and probably even before: you could switch ammo (round, grape, canister, chain) and aiming (hull or sails, because a chain shot doesn't make much sense against the former). As a side effect, it could make brawl builds more fancy... but also discourage BBs from getting closer to each other since the rain of steel would do more consistent damage. German, French and Massachusetts would have the upper hand due to their range, acting as area denial weapons for pushes in certain caps with a big landmass on one side, e.g. A cap in North/Northern Lights, while other nations specialise more into the mid/long range combat/support. Which is what they were meant to do anyway. Salute.
  12. I saw an Atago do the same in the piers at the southern spawn in Neighbours long ago. It would have made a little sense if it was a standard battle since he'd have almost the whole base within torpedo range, but it was domination, no friendlies nearby to spot for him and half the enemy team closing in. Salute.

    Uncover the truth mission

Is it just me or there's a blank user logged in the forum? There are two commas with nothing in between in the "Recently Browsing" list down below, just in this thread (I checked others and doesn't happen anywhere else). Salute.

    Superstitions and Ships / Loadouts?

There was a time when I loathed having Papa Papa signals in port, I was nervous and my performance dropped until I used all of them. I also used to equip Takao with Juliet Charlie whenever I took her for a battle, worrying about massive rants if she detonated after hearing the screams when set on fire. As for recent "superstitions", Shimakaze's camo has to be Type 1, Type 5 for Minotaur and Type 2 for all the IJN CVs but Hakuryu. Any other paintings on those ships mean poking the penguin. Yes, in most cases it's just that. Out of some initial triggering (like a losing streak) your mind looks for something equal in each battle trying to find the cause, then you subconciously convince yourself that it was due to that particular thing and handicap yourself whenever it happens again. Salute.

Any Network geeks that can help?

It's a common mistake to think that your full bandwidth (1Gbps is your theoretical limit since that's the transfer rate for your less capable device) is used for transferring the "meaningful" data. There's a lot of extra bits being sent and received (frame, packet and segment headers, flow control and rate limit signals, etc.) in order to ensure that the real data arrives correctly, and the more the latter is fragmented (i.e., small files) the more negotiation has to be done. Not to mention other network status checks (ARP, DHCP... because machines are now hardly ever configured manually) and connections/sessions that are active at the same time, because I doubt that you're idling and doing nothing but the file transfer from your PC to the NAS and it's also highly doubtful that background processes aren't making some calls home. As for possible internalities at both ends, Aotearas has already mentioned the read/write speed for HDDs (either in the NAS or in the PC) which shouldn't be too much of a problem unless they suffer from heavy fragmentation or you're putting an extra workload on them at the same time. But considering to what degree people, myself included, neglect it I shouldn't be surprised in the slightest. Salute.

Should "This is Too Complex" still be a valid excuse?

It depends on what you consider as good, but I enjoyed "Carriers at War" (to be precise, SSG's second iteration and Matrix Games' 2007 redesign) and Akella's "Age of Sail 2" a lot. I also heard good things about "Jane's Fleet Command" at the time, but there were quite the amount of bugs and stability issues although that was pretty common during the transition from Windows 98 to XP. Salute.
  17. Well, the Nelson one was funnier but shocking: all our kills happening on the flank without carrier support while the one closer to the CV crumbled. It was also disappointing to see our AP equipped Lexington targeting your Shinonome with those while he used the TPBs against the cruiser at the end of the match. There was very little I could do in that one you posted with Jervis apart from guarding east for a while and providing my smoke to our radar Edinburgh so he could retreat. Although it was a victory, I feel the battle would have been more dynamic if our BBs to the west had pushed the moment I commented that your team was pushing east en masse and all your DDs were also there. Salute.

    Anime

Others have already pointed out good stuff. Cowboy Bebop in particular was what actually dragged me into anime and manga, while my contact with Dragon Ball and other late '80s/early '90s was limited to being asked for drawing/copying/scaling the collectable cards to A4 sheet size. As for series that haven't been mentioned yet, Monster, ACCA and Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken: Monster is long (74 episodes) and highly psychological, set in Germany around the time the wall fell down; ACCA is slow paced, with unravelling political intrigue, lots of cigarettes like Cowboy Bebop or Black Lagoon, and lots of bread; the last one is a short (two interweaved seasons but the episodes are less than four minutes each) slice-of-life comedy full, and I really mean it, of references to other manga and anime series. Salute.
  19. You're right, my bad. I think I never checked that back since a discussion that happened on the Spanish forum about the right meaning of what Victor Lima does. Salute.
  20. I don't mind such markers, but in some cases it's highly debatable how or why they were chosen to be put like that: in Minotaur India X-Ray (extra fire chance, extra own detonation chance) is set as unfitting, which is understandable for a RN CL, yet Victor Lima (extra fire chance, extra own flooding chance) is not. Salute.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Holy smokes Midway! She's till shy of being my top base XP earner, yet now accompanies Missouri in the +3k club and improves her plane count (the free XP is due to stacking flags and camo for the third stage of the legendary upgrade): Apart from that, Nelson acquired and tested. Her shells feel faster than those from other ships (even Missouri's, which already dislodge my aim when switching between her and other BBs) so I've been usually hitting bows half the time, and that tight grouping makes it even harder to score on wiggling DDs. OTOH, that heal is utterly ridiculous: she's not one ship but more like two and a half with free consumables, probably three and a half with SI and premium consumables. Salute.

    Tactical Map

The distance shown, IIRC and regardless of being in tactical map or in normal view, can be one of two values: if you have the camera locked on one ship (yours because it's still afloat, someone else's because you're watching what your friendlies are doing) then it's relative to that ship; if you're roaming on free camera (e.g., after being sunk) then it's relative to your current PoV. Salute.
  23. @Skyllon, @havaduck and @aboomination divisioned two days ago in Trap, my Jervis being crimson to them. They concentrated mainly in B cap and I think things weren't that good there while I sailed to C, so my greeting omen in chat fortunately didn't come true. The only one I had the pleasure of shelling a bit (only one or two hits, though) was aboomination when he tried to keep C contested later on. Salute.

    CV Problems I have

Well, blackgun34 has already stated one factor that affects low tier CVs (making use of friendly AA to improve your chances of winning a dogfight). There's a couple of other elements that can further strengthen your fighters: upgrades (although for Langley that's limited to Air Groups Mod. 1) and captain skills. As for the latter, the recommended basic ones are Dogfighting Expert, Aircraft Servicing Expert, Torpedo Acceleration, Torpedo Armament Expertise and Air Supremacy, the first and last ones in particular for your troublings. Those are unlocked and available from account levels 6 and 7 and up, respectively. Salute.

    Roast the previous poster's stats

OK, let's revive this a bit. @Tyrendian89 was the last one to have his stats roasted, but unfortunately the one to do it has such a common name (lots of DeletedUser out there, like Müller, Smith or García) to be properly traceable so I'll roast Tyrendian89's again and let mine to be abused. Almost 21 months without any new record, really? Were you using a teaspoon to dig through that wall? Here are mine. I've thought quite many things to come out with, but let's see if you can surprise me with something else: https://wows-numbers.com/player/538063337,Estaca_de_Bares/ Salute.
