CV Rework - the other Elephant in the Room
Estaca_de_Bares replied to Gvozdika's topic in General Discussion
Let me explain the (really) bad Spanglish there: a "mojón" is any kind of solid marking on the ground, e.g. milestones by the road or posts signalling the ownership borders in an open field. When you put that into a figurative meaning, what kind of "milestones" do elephants and other animals do on a daily basis (and yes, I'm trying hard not to mention the obvious translation, it's better having what the Germans call "Aha-Erlebnis")? Back on topic, I gave little thought to the effects the AA rework would have, and the concerns the OP raised never went through my mind. But it's true that they make a lot of sense after some analysis: most of the current ships prone to AA speccing are considered that way because of their long range, heavy mountings, while the rework flips everything upside down. Now the "best" (or, better put, the less affected and hence suited to be) AA ships would be those with lots of lightweight but far reaching guns. Salute.- 78 replies

Bugs i've been having when joning a battle
Estaca_de_Bares replied to Vilodrom's topic in Newcomers' Section
Well, what you described happened to me once, running 0.7.11 IIRC (could be one patch before though): playing with Musashi in Neighbours, I suffered a disconnection, logged in again and was stuck like you in the pre-battle roster, killed the process just in case and re-entered the game but found myself stuck there for a second time. To be fair, I don't know what caused it, although I suspect it could be related to something not being loaded in time, maybe due to disk fragmentation: I'm sure it was after a game update but before a scheduled defrag. My hunch is reinforced by the fact that it happened while rejoining a battle, hence not having any pre-loaded models, textures nor maps unlike when entering from port. If what I'm saying lays somewhere close to the truth, I agree with rnat: a reinstall would do little to nothing, while a defragmentation should do the trick (it will also increase performance for other things) unless some more serious issues are in place. What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Estaca_de_Bares replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
5th Natural Selection achieved in operations, 5 star win and a nice amount of XP earned... but I feel unsatisfied. Don't get me wrong, it's a good result, the problem is that it was the second try today: I also got a Natural Selection on the first one (all the others I have were obtained in Cherry Blossom), yet a meagre 1 star win due to things going south the moment a DD from the third wave managed to scratch the perimeter with its bow. I wonder how much base XP I could have earned if everything had run smoothly... Salute. -

@Riselotte's red Cleveland spotted far away on the other side of the map while I was playing hide-and-seek on my own at A cap in Warrior's Path. There wasn't much that I could do with my TRB-equipped Yugumo devoid of almost any support: only the carrier sent one SDB squadron, which helped me take the cap first, while the ships that spawned by my side were either AFK (Cleveland) or went east (the BB, a Gneisenau IIRC). I had to leave and let their Yugumo, KGV, Mogami and Baltimore (or was it a Buffalo?) pass through in order to sneak back from behind and retake the point. That made me the target of red CV's full attention, but I didn't go down easily, at least not before capping again, sinking a Nagato and evading 3 torp drops and numerous attacks by dive bombers. Salute. -
What did you expect? There's a Spanish saying/warning against getting into risky businesses that goes as follows: "te van a dar la del pulpo" (you're going to receive/be spanked like an octopus), in reference to the custom of hitting them hard in order to make their flesh tender. Salute.

"Il destino degli uomini" - upcoming film about Italian naval hero Luigi Rizzo
Estaca_de_Bares replied to Historynerd's topic in Off-Topic
The trailer looks pretty nice, although I'm not sure if covering his whole deeds from both WW1 and WW2 (and, by the looks of it, the "obligatory" romance/drama subplot) would work as intended. One Italian WW1 naval action that I'd like to watch since I read about it is the raid on Pola. It could even have a more straightforward, old-school script like the ones in the war movies of the '50s and '60s (I'm thinking about e.g. The Cockleshell Heroes, The Enemy Below or Sahara). To be fair, I'm a bit biased about how to make it because I'd like such a movie to roughly follow the events in the way Luis de la Sierra narrates them in his book Buques Suicidas, including the previous attempt with the Grillo (link to the Italian Wikipedia article about the "barchini saltatori", a kind of tank-boat hybrid designed to surpass the defensive barriers of naval bases). Anyway, Memento Audere Semper. Salute. -
Newport scenario after changes
Estaca_de_Bares replied to Max_Kammerer's topic in General Discussion
That appears to be the case. Putting myself in a surface ship player perspective, it's reasonable that the Furutaka adds both an extra threat (more guns and torpedoes at the front row due to it going ahead of the BBs) and a diversion of fire focus (it's a juicier target, hence attracting shells towards it and letting the DDs be unmolested for longer). OTOH, it reduces the risk of losing a star by not completing the "sink all ships" objective: Zuiho had a tendency of turning around and hiding at the NW corner of the map if suddenly focused or quickly deplaned, which made that secondary objective nearly impossible to attain if it slipped away and no human carrier was in play. Newport scenario after changes
Estaca_de_Bares replied to Max_Kammerer's topic in General Discussion
As promised, and thanks to the aforementioned battle, here's the comparison between old and new second wave spawns in middle. I even added a XOR composite in the middle which further improves the analysis: notice in particular the fading of Kaiser's and Ishizuchi's ship icons and the total disappearance of the name for the latter as well as for the T-22. Estaca_de_Bares replied to Max_Kammerer's topic in General Discussion
Well, I've made a division with @ForlornSailor and operation completed with 5 stars and Tactical Expertise. Luckily enough, the second wave spawned in its usual place in the middle and it seems that the locations are exactly the same as previously, with the only change of the Furutaka at the rear instead of the Zuiho. We also had the fortune of a listening team that didn't spread much and focused fire, so the stars aligned a lot. Salute. -
Newport scenario after changes
Estaca_de_Bares replied to Max_Kammerer's topic in General Discussion
I've checked my replays down to 0.7.5 and in none of them the spawns of the second wave coincide with those on this last iteration (old second wave used to appear in the middle, while the new one has shown to NE in all my tries for now). I could go further back but maybe playing some more would be the better approach, which is what I'm going to do now. Send a message if interested, I'll take my Ryujo for that. Salute. -
Newport scenario after changes
Estaca_de_Bares replied to Max_Kammerer's topic in General Discussion
True, it could be that. Well, the best way I have to check it out is running one of the latest replays and an old one, both with the minimap expanded to the maximum, take screenshots and superimpose them. I suppose I can do that later in the evening. Salute. -
Newport scenario after changes
Estaca_de_Bares replied to Max_Kammerer's topic in General Discussion
I've tried this iteration with Ryujo a few times and for CVs it's a lot easier but, and it's quite a caveat, the friendly bot Baltimore is really hard to keep alive if the team isn't fully committed to do so. I also feel, but it could just be that I had an established routine for dealing with the ships when bot carriers were around and it's now shattered, that the final wave arrives a bit sooner. Combining both facts means that I've only managed to get 4 star completions thus far. Not to that level but yes, I've also noticed that the second wave is now a lot more prone to get awfully close to the harbour, while the only ship that previously used to break through was the Furutaka in the third wave. This might be due to the lack of bot carriers too: since there's no Zuiho to "protect", slowing down the others, the corresponding wave has free reign to push forward. Salute. -
You get to play only 1 ship in 2019! Which one it is ?
Estaca_de_Bares replied to imElitez's topic in General Discussion
That was pretty clear but, in my case (and in other's too: @Sargento_YO would have the same problem since he chose his beloved Zuiho), the fact that the CV rework is underway yet with no definite ETA is a big handicap. Let's say I chose Hiryu and with 0.8.0 the rework is introduced: I'd play WoWS during 2019 for less than a month, then forcibly park the game until the next year. You might argue that I could have chosen an even tier CV instead, thus not being affected by that, but for me Hiryu is the weapon of choice: neither too high nor too low in the tiers, which means the right balance between gameplay demands and enjoyment. Salute. -
0.7.11.1, all replays past 30 deleted again
Estaca_de_Bares replied to NothingButTheRain's topic in General Discussion
I agree it's going to be a bit annoying if the file edition has to be done every single time a new patch appears. I suppose I'll have to check out and modify again if needed before I try to play today, it would be quite enraging losing all but the replays from the last 3 days or so. Salute. -
Holiday Lottery 2018 - Try your luck !

Well, even if the current number of participants triplicates my odds would be much better than trying to ask for a raise or a free week, so why not? I want to join the lottery. Salute. -

Estaca_de_Bares replied to imElitez's topic in General Discussion
Limited to one ship... Well, considering that WG intends to get rid of odd CVs, I suppose I'd make as many good memories with Hiryu as I can if the rework's introduction to the live server is delayed for long enough. Otherwise, Fiji. Salute. -

Since I forgot about Yugumo when naming the ships for free XP conversion I decided to take her out a couple of times. Seems like she's accepted my apologies: Apart from that, the Royal Navy collection completed. Seriously, I don't know how many duplicates of Icarus' badge and Tarigo's picture I've received, but those two really stood out among the collectables. Salute. -

Exactly my thoughts, it didn't seem like a defeat for us when your position near C started to crumble. And I managed to survive (I was a HE salvo with a lucky fire away from blowing up a couple of times) by repeating in my mind "I'm an Emerald with spotter plane, not a BB" in order to hug the islands as tight as possible. I met @Negativvv's Conqueror today, me in Missouri, although I only noticed in the heat of the battle with no time to cheer. It was a strange match to be honest, with his friendly Shimakaze putting himself in front of the firing squad, then a general push towards him but turning the tables after his demise in a very akward manner the moment a Zao and a Loyang appeared. It was a serious mistake letting one of the Hippers on his flank survive, because its presence made me not have the right ammo at the right time during my final moments: when Loyang let himself be spotted I had AP loaded, when the DD cloaked and Hipper shot there was HE inside my breeches. Oh, and @Max_Kammerer's Richelieu in Hermes yesterday while taking my Lyon for a tour. In spite of having Richelieu too, I find the little blunderbuss more useful in that operation so she's become the one to go if I need a bit of French farming. Salute. -
Yes, that name please, as a T4 so we can have divisions or face-offs like this: On a more serious note, a Dido-class in the AA role or Kent-class' HMS Suffolk as a testing for RN CAs (WG could even copy-paste it in order to make HMAS Canberra) would be nice additions. Although the latter would be a pretty odd one (even more than Atlanta was before the introduction of the USN CL line) without accompanying silver ships. Salute.

How much none converted ship XP do you have?
Estaca_de_Bares replied to ClappingLollies's topic in General Discussion
I'll check later the total amount when in front of the gaming desktop, but just from memory 3M in Hiryu, 1M each or so in Shokaku, Ryujo, Shimakaze, Missouri, Bismarck, Großer Kurfürst and Minotaur. I think it'll be at least 15M as an initial rough estimate when including all the ships. Salute. P.S.: I was finally able to take a look and there were a couple of surprises. First of all, neither Minotaur nor Großer Kurfürst had as much as I thought, although both plus Neptune are quite close to three quarters of a million. Then there are Kagero and Yugumo (I didn't think about them at first, which is strange since they both have 19-point captains) with 1M XP reached or about to do so. All in all, almost 18M. -
How to use mods from a standard Windows user account?
Estaca_de_Bares replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
This sounds to me like an issue with file ownership and permissions. Ask yourself this: was the mod installed while using the Administrator account? If the answer is yes (which means that the mod files belong to Administrator), then it might be that only that account is allowed (has certain rwx permits) to access the mod files, hence failing the normal one to do so. IIRC (not in front of a Win7 machine right now), you can adjust those permissions for the files by right clicking on them, selecting Properties, then the Security tab. There you'll see which users and groups are allowed or denied to do certain things with/to the files. Compare those allowed to Administrator to the ones allowed to the normal user account, replicate them from the former to the latter accordingly, save the changes and try them by launching the game again with the normal user. Remember, though, that those steps should be done with the Administrator account, and don't forget to take notes (pen and paper) of what you changed so you can revert it just in case. Salute. -
Black Friday Missions, 50k BASE XP
Estaca_de_Bares replied to ApesTogetherStronK's topic in General Discussion
There's no contradiction if you're a Loonie, i.e. a citizen of the Moon: It is, yet it's not. Unlike the LU you can do it while playing with all your ships (well, all T5 and above), not just the one the upgrade is intended for. 50 battles if you're able to average 1k base XP in them, which is hard but doable in the low tiers, or a bit more than 100 in an awful streak of defeats. Playing operations might make it more relaxed and enjoyable, but considering how people are risking defeats in what otherwise could be an easy 5 star win in Killer Whale... Salute. -
Ah, yes, very iconic for the Britons indeed. I think I've seen two of them somewhere in the various British "settlements" in Costa del Sol, although it could be the same twice. It was long ago, though. Among the Spanish classics, so to say, are the SEAT 600 (license-built Fiat 600) and the French designed SIMCA 1000. Both had quite their success during the economic boom in the '60s and '70s, and the latter even got a bit of fame again in the '80s from the pop hit Qué difícil es hacer el amor en un SIMCA 1000 ("It's hard to make love in a SIMCA 1000"). Another classic, also from licensing, is the original Land Rover Santana series. Some of them, mainly former Guardia Civil vehicles which is noticeable by the doors and bonnet painted in dark green, can be still seen in many towns in southern Spain. Salute.

I didn't know about that manufacturer but I agree after taking a look, its cases are quite minimalistic. The discontinued ones are more to my liking, though. It may be just that, from my point of view, this is the most beautiful (fictional, but whatever) PC case ever made: Salute.
