1 good reason to buy Gearing ?

Recently i have pretty "not so good" results with the Gearing, but this is because of 75% potato teams and 25% i potato myself (usually overextending). I had no 15 point commander with the Gearing until recently but this is a big boost for this ship to get down to 5.9km detection range. To answer your question, because i was just as hesitant as you are to get this ship and questioned the Gearing > Fletcher but i have to admit, boy was i wrong. First of all, the extra gun makes a huge difference when you knifefight other DDs, no matter what DD it is. The Gearing wipes the floor with the fletcher and it wipes the floor with Khaba if you go for the fastest gun reload with upgrade. You pump out quite a few more shell per minute (6 shells every 2.4 seconds, do the math yourself) and this set other ships more often on fire or if you have broadside cruiser or BBs within 8km you can hammer some really hard hitting AP salvos (usually 2k-3k every 2.4 seconds) in their fat belly. Since the torps have 16.5km range you can use the torpedo acceleration on them to make them 5 knots faster and range goes down to 13.2km. These 5 knots do not sound much, just as this 1 extra gun, but your torp hit chance will increase by quite a bit. The damage per torp is lower, but for this you hit more often the target because of the lower reaction time your target has to dodge - 5.9km concealment and 71 knots torps, gg. The more HP the ship got is also very useful (you should go for SE anyway with Gearing) to win knifefights even against 2 lower tier DDs at once. The Gearing does not look like an Upgrade by pure stats but it is, if you adapt your playstyle a little bit. The Fletcher is perhaps the best topedoboat we have in the game right now, while the Gearing is the ultimate DD killer and you can kick the butt of any other DD that dare to contest a cap zone, while you still have amazing torps. Just keep away from Cruiser or camp smoke too much when cruiser are around, because once detected you suffer from the lower speed and worse maneuverbility. I hope that helped.

Prepare for Ranked Battles Season 5!

They should have changed the system to make it more dynamic. Maybe something like one extend cap zone and the team wins that A) cap this zone or B) defeat all enemies or C) add up all ship HP per team (100%) and the team that made more %-damage when the time is up

Negative credit, after 187k damage game?

This might be partially true about the meta and that WG want us to play low tier and that they are a company and so on.... If i like a product i pay for it, simple as that. I do not want to be forced or be pushed to pay for something liketo play high tier games. I already paid money for premium to shorten the grind to get to the high tier ships. The sheer cost to have some bad TX games is absurd and make it no fun to even consider to grind other ship lines, because i know at the end is again the high cost to play a couple of games. Not everyone is a super-unicum that makes tons of cash in every game, some people are just average or below and struggle hard to make cash.[edited]. To scare them away by make it very very hard to only play high tier is not what a company want. Yes i get it, WG want us all to play low and mid tier too so the game is equally populated, but there are better ways than just force this with high cost at high tier. There are constantly events and missions and they are always the same repetitive crap like "sink 5 ships with torps" or "make 1 million damage" and so on. Why not missions like "win 5 games in T5 and get 10 economy flags - win 5 games in T6 and get 10 premium consumables - win 5 games in T7 and get 500k credits" and so on. Why try to force us to play low tier when you also could create incentive to play low/mid tier and reward this. This would make missions more fun, nobody would be under the impression he is forced to play lower tier to generate cash to support high tier play. About the meta.... WG has to do something about this. Give ships the ability to shoot from one side of the map to the other is stupid and invite to camp and snipe. No ship should have a range above 15km or something like this, so people are forced to move their behind. Maybe a different approach how costs are calculated may be a way to fix this. If you take more damage and dealt more damage you pay less. If you did not make a certain amount of damage or played objectives (including the new spotting mechanics, potential damage, and so on) you pay a lot more at the end of the game than someone who actually played actively in the game and risked his ship in the effort to win the match. Someone who threw away his ship and did not deal damage or played objectives also pays the full price plus a bonus, just to avoid the camper that suicide in the last 2 minutes. Those are just a few ideas that come to mind. The whole cash balancing is a very difficult thing to do, i understand WG and why they hesitate to change anything ATM. TL;DR In general it is better to work with rewards and incentives to motivate people than to punish people for doing something not.

Why is the Gearing so fugly?

Clearly the second guy! You know that the first one will be a good fight, while the second guy looks like the typical psychopath that rams his fingernails into your eyes, bites off your nuts and then rapes you.

Why is the Gearing so fugly?

Brawler should look impressive and scare other ships away. The gearing looks all worn out, dirty and rusty, as it would come out of an abandoned dry-dock after it was forgotten there for the past 25 years. ^^

Why is the Gearing so fugly?

Naah, premium camo sucks. I want regular Type 1/5 camo to look good. The premium camos are not worth the high price IMO. What's the point of adding bonus xp to it when the camo is used on ships you don't need xp anyway?! WG should consider to change the xp bonus to something useful, like 5% or 10% commander xp bonus or free xp bonus.
  8. I have no insight of how the MM really works and it could be an coincidence, but this is what i have noticed. On my main account i play to 90%+ DD class only. I have around 2000 battles and usually play T8 to T10 only, so i do not notice top/bottom tier much. But recently i thought about to start playing some cruiser as well and since i do not know which line suits me best have i started a new alt account to test the cruiser lines. And here is where i noticed, that i am usually in matches with same tier or i am top tier. I have cruiser up to T6 right now and never (okay, maybe 2-3 times) landed in T8 matches. So i would guess, that MM considers how experienced you are, that it checks how many battles you have played and how your overall stats are when you are put as top/bottom tier. Someone with very good stats and a lot of battles is more likely to be bottom tier, while "newbies" have a better chance to be top tier. This is pure assumption and it could be an coincidence, but this is what i have noticed on a fresh account with less than 200 battles.

    Help please, and a rant.

And i thought spending real money for premium to shorten the hundreds of games grind through the whole tech tree to get a certain T10 ship is already what made me "earn" to actually play this ship. Silly me!

    A question for the Supertester

Hola! What in particular are you testing when you play new ships on live server in random battles? I've seen some very strange and, let's say, not so good gameplay by Supertester on live. Things like the ST rushed from our spawn into the enemies just to die without doing anything. Or ST goes brawling but does not shoot any guns. Or sit far back at maximum range and only very occassionally fires the guns. Are those test for e.g strength of secondary builds (brawling without using main guns), armor strength tests (rushing into enemies without doing anything at all), dispersion tests (maximum range camping) and so on? Or is it only the potato-approved testing if a ship suits all skill levels? I'm not interested in becoming a ST, i'm just curious what this sometimes very strange gameplay is about.

    The cost of Tier X

Yeah, Tier X matches are fun! -130k Credits because of ..... bla bla there are flags bla bla. Nice, you get them after you have died to this bullcrap and i rather chop off my hand before i spend real money on buying flags. And pay attention to what detonated me. ^^

    Flint

I do not understand why people insist that this ship is not op. Please compare the Tier 7 Flint with the Tier 10 Gearing, they have identical DPM - but only, if the Tier 10 Gearing uses the commander perk AND the faster reload module for 3 million credits. The Tier 7 Flint also has the same torpdoes as the Tier 8 Benson and the Flint has the same smoke as the Tier 9 Fletcher. As for the Flint, this Tier 7 ship can also get into Tier 5 matches with Hydro and insane AA - i wish i could do the same with my Gearing. ;)
  13. ThePurpleSmurf

    Flint

Well, even many rank 1 player say it is way too strong and OP and if you check stats sites you will see it for yourself. For example, the Imperator Nikolai, that is not available anymore because WG confirmed that it is broken op, has a WR of 58.77% as top3 ship while the Flint sit's currently on 66.08%. This is pretty huge if you consider, that ship ranks usually only differ by maybe 0.5% from rank to rank. This combined with another factor makes it extremely op. The fact that this ship is so strong and (almost) only people play it that reached 3 times rank 1 in rank season and they usually play in division, make this ship simply imbalanced. And then there is of course always the argument that not all rank 1 player are really rank 1 because they brute force the r1. Well, this proves even more that the Flint is OP, because if brute force potatoes play it and still can reach an overall win rate of 66%+ then how strong must it really be if only "real" r1 player would play it?!

    Preferences file save location

Here is a very basic quick & dirty solution: This must be saved as e.g. launcher.bat and goes into your WoWs root directory. Create a folder 'profiles' (there is most likely a folder profile (without trailing s) which is used for mods and stuff, so better use a own folder). Now you have to start WoWs and login then close the application so the preferences.xml is saved for the current user. Copy this preferences file into the profiles folder and rename it to e.g. john.xml .. repeat this login and copy stuff for each person. NOTE: the name for the file has to be the same name as in the script or it will not work. Once you have done this, you can start WoWs with the launcher.bat or whatever name you gave the script file. Doubleclick it and the commmand prompt will open, it asks for which profile to load. Insert the number of the profile, press Enter and the script will copy the user preferences into the WoWs root and calls the WoWslauncher.exe. The names in the echo-lines are obviously placeholder and so are the names of the .xml files. You can change this at will but just make sure that the .xml file name is the exact same as the file name in the profiles folder. Let's hope that WG will add a profile manager to WoWs some day. ^^

    Preferences file save location

Hola! Fair enough! The only other way i could think of is that you create batch files to copy the preferences and launch the game. Downside would be that everyone has a own shortcut, so instead of one icon to click everyone has his/her own. Another downside would be, that ingame setting changes would require to copy the new preferences to the backup location, because the changes would be lost after the next game start. And of course, if the password is saved in the preferences you have the same problem as with the password manager, that you only need to launch the game with the shortcut from the other person and have full access to that account.
  19. ThePurpleSmurf

    Preferences file save location

Not sure about the preferences file, but you could use a password manager as workaround. I guess that all password manager have this, but i myself use KeePass2 to manage all my passwords and you can enable auto-complete for each entry in the database that can be bound to certain applications/windows. This makes it easy to start an application and press the auto-complete hotkey and the username/password are filled in the fields automatically. If you have multiple entries bound to an application a window will pop up and you can click on the user you want to login. This makes it very easy to handle multiple user for an aplication like wows. This may sound like overkill or very complicated but in reality it is very easy to use and to setup and just a matter of a few minutes (including reading some instructions) to be good to go.

    Udaloi to khaba

Khaba is about 25% bigger in size than Udaloi, turning radius is much bigger, rudder is slower. Yes, it's a lot more sluggish than the Udaloi, at latest when you are not in open water where you can wiggle, but if you are between islands or if you have to avoid collisions with other ships or if you are forced to move slow because you have to cap or something like this. Don't get me wrong, Khaba is probably the best ship in the game right now and it is simply amazing, but it also has some serious downsides too.

    Torpedo Acceleration on Gearing

This is a typo, i meant Superintendent. I wrote this at 7am in the morning, before i went to bed ;)
  22. ThePurpleSmurf

    Udaloi to khaba

And there are only very few cases where you can contest cap zones. Khaba is a damage machine (literally) and not a capper or torper. You pretty much get AFT asap and stay at 12km+ at almost all times. Get rid of the thought that Khaba is a destroyer, think more of it as a very fast cruiser with insane firepower.
  23. ThePurpleSmurf

    Udaloi to khaba

It's not the 600m meter, it's the much more sluggish handling of the Khaba. But check this video out, maybe this will give you an idea on how to play this ship.

There will be an option below the text field with "Attach Files" and a button "Choose Files", click this button and select the screenshot you want to upload. Confirm this and the upload will start instantly. To insert a picture simply put the cursor where you want to have it and then click "Add to Post" on the right side of your picture preview that is shown below the text field. That's pretty much it.
  25. In conclusion, don't play WoWs until Gamescom is over and we are back to normal.
