First of all, who said anything about skill? All I did was to tell above what hapened to me earlier, it was not even a direct complaint. Secondly, there are situations where you have no choice, like in this case. Open water, BB caps our base in standard battle, so it's either lose the game or kill the BB that has only 4k HP left. Skill is, not to sail broadside to him like a potato and give him the opportunity to delete you right away with AP. Nope, you do your best to mitigate damage, angle as good as possible and avoid incoming fire by make you a as small target as possible, especially in a cruiser. If a BB then still only has to pull the trigger and does not even need to aim well or switch ammo type to delete a higher tier Cruiser, then there is something very wrong.
-
Yeah I don't care. If I play like a potato and broadside a BB at 10km then I can accept that it was my fault if he deletes me with AP, but being angled bow on to a BB and he deletes me with 18k HP with one HE salvo of which half of his shells miss, then there is clearly something not okay.
-
Well, I played a Cleveland game earlier today in a standard battle on Trident. It was kinda late in the game and a RN BB started to cap our base, so I turned around to deal with him. I thought okay, this guy (it was the T5 or T6, don't remember and didn't make screenshots) is at 4k HP and my Cleveland with IFHE is at 18k HP. I quickly kill this guy and then get back to work over the remaining enemy ships, easy-peasy. So when he was in range I fired a HE salvo at him and he shot a salvo at me a few seconds later while my shell were on its way. My salvo hit, 3k damage and I thought okay good, next salvo he is dead. Then his salvo hit me and boom, I'm dead. Post-battle detail screen showed that he hit me with 5 damn HE shells for 18k damage. FIVE HE SHELLS FOR EIGHTEEN THOUSAND DAMAGE! REALLY?!?! Well, RN BB HE is well balanced I guess.

0.6.10 Update 0.6.10 Feedback - In-game Premium Shop
ThePurpleSmurf replied to Kandly's topic in Archive
Why must the shop link be permanently visible in the port UI? It's annoying and just use more space. There is already the menu option to visit the shop and people who play this game know where the shop on the website is. It's the same annoyance like the News icon that bothers me all day. People see news in the launcher, by visiting the forum or frequently the website, there is no need at all to be annoyed and bother ingame with it too, just like the shop link now. Seriously, instead to focus on improving important stuff you just add more useless junk that pisses people off. -
Watching streams, videos and replays I'm pretty sure the main reason why BBs hug the map border is the slow turret traverse speed. BBs want to fire their guns and usually all of them, so they bring their guns to one side and then sail in whatever direction they are sailing. When they are actually supposed to turn and position themself better, they don't because they do not want to give up their whole firepower and wait in some cases a minute to have the guns available again. And so they sail on until they hit the map border and look like a potato. How about WG try to fix this by introducing a new consumable similar to the engine speed boost but for turret traverse speed? Something like turrets turn 25% faster for the duration of 60 seconds with a cooldown of 180 seconds.
-
I tried this already a couple of times, but then the whole integrity check and download start all over again and after a few seconds the speed drop again. I think that so many people have to redownload files that the lines are simply at their limits. And the speed got even worse, now it's around 220kb/s to 300kb/s.
-
There are 2 major downsides to the new effects: In close range combat it's hard to aim at a target while zoomed in that's why it's usually much easier to hit an enemy crap by zooming out a bit or shooting 3rd person. The problem is, if the own ship is on fire or if there is still fire and smoke from muzzle fire, the enemy ship model is not even to see which makes it impossible to aim at it. If an enemy ship is on fire and angled in certain ways (usually bow on or kiting away) it is often impossible to see the gun turrets of the ship, but this is very important, especially for cruisers, to know if a ship looks in your direction or if you have to angle or if you can make a turn to get into a safe position. While the effects look good from range at it, it has a negative impact on the gameplay as it is right now. I hope WG comes up with a solution to these problems.
-
Yeah this sucks. I have to redownload 2.8GB and the speed does not go above 400kb/s although my connection could handle 2mb/s.

0.6.10.0 coming tomorrow, beware of a few things with the client.
ThePurpleSmurf replied to krautjaeger's topic in General Discussion
All important client settings are stored in your preferences.xml file. -
Nope pretty sure not, because the update works fast and then you sit on a not worling client. Then you have to fix it manually by yourself with the client integrity check which probably 95% of user don't even know it exist. I'm very sure they messed up stuff with the new file format or whatever they did. And longer installation time does not mean redownload up to 6GB data after we messed up something.

As Tier 8 (Benson) you get kinda often games where you are top tier and play against Tier 6 and Tier 7. Tier 8 is the tier where ships get a HUGE boost because of new upgrades available and Tier 8 usually also means a much better ship commander with more and better perks. You get 5.8km concealment as Benson and fight Mahans and alike with >7km detection range. This advantage, first and foremost the concealment, is not existent at Tier 9 (Fletcher) and Tier 10 (Gearing) because all enemy DDs have access to the same upgrades. Also if you are uptiered as Benson you get more XP because you fight higher tier ships and Benson, based on the superb concealment, does extremely well against Tier 10s. Ship upgrade advantage over lower tiers is one major reason why people usually do much better in the Benson than in Gearing.
-
You can not play the Gearing like the other US DDs because it is slower, thicker (takes more damage, especially AP from Cruisers and BBs) and is not as nimble as Benson, Fletcher, Sims and so on. You have to play it more careful and not too aggressive, pick your fights wisely. Gearing has an insane firepower and very good torps that are usually better used as area denial tools rather than direct devestating strike torps or use them to torp into a camping pack of BBs at >12km. A very good 'trick' I all too often forget myself is, play your DD from the battle start as if it would have only 1k HP left. Once your DD is down to 1k HP you surely do not yolo into a cap like an idiot, you do not open fire on a full HP DD that has backup especially if a radar or hydro ship is nearby or when you are within secondary range of a BB, so why would do you do it right at game start and cripple yourself for the rest of the game? The other US DD are more forgiving, because they are faster and are better maneuverable, as a Gearing you just get deleted because you are a too easy target.

Can Karma go into negative figures?
ThePurpleSmurf replied to Drunken_Jedi's topic in General Discussion
Good behavior is not only rewarded on RU but also on NA. Just a few days ago they threw out a new wave of rewards. I got 10 FTW camos too which are actually pretty badass (333% commander xp and 20% credits). The time period seem to be 3 months between new rewards and if you got chat banned in that time you get nada. -
Seems to be a new trend because I had a couple of games recently with 2 or 3 BB per side and even one battle with only 1 BB, all in tier 8+. While it was actually more fun to play, because nobody spawn camped, it was bad for the average damage for obvious reasons.
-
I have 3 solo warrior and a combined 6000 battles on NA and EU and still no Clear Sky. I friggin hate CV gameplay that's why I don't play it and never will, but I have AA specced ships like Cleveland, Des Moines and have shot down 50+ planes but yeah....stupid achievement. They should change the requirement to a set number of planes and not 50% of planes in the game, because this number varies due to the fact that catapult fighter also count and you never know which ship use this consumable and worse, if they use the perk to double the planes.

They already did this, named the ship Indianapolis and threw it into the cash shop as well. Another radar ship is Flint - all ships with radar are premium, tech tree gets the finger.

A game from today. As WG sees it, this is a tycial case of everything is fine, just gid gut and learn to adapt. So 2 division with tier 8 ships are paired against 2 tier 10 divisons on our all beloved map Tears of my [edited]with the even better epicenter mode. Totally fair and balanced MM.

+1 regarding WG's Graf Zep response, but is iCloud being reinstated?
ThePurpleSmurf replied to g1g5's topic in General Discussion
I think iChase makes extremely boring content, but this is maybe just me. I am not so sure if he did this not on purpose and for a certain reason. If you watched some of his latest streams he talks about making money on YT and how the system works if you make a living out of YT. The pure fact videos rarely generate much views and even less comments, likes and dislikes. The more controversy a topic is, like provoked on purpose, the more comments and likes/dislikes a video get and it does not matter if the nature is of a positive or negative nature, it generate activity on videos and the channel in general and this is what generates money. The more people discuss a video and comment how bad it is, the more views and therefore more money a video generates. So these 'incompetent and stupid' videos are actually a smart way to trick people into becoming active in the channel in one way or the other and this means more cash for the channel owner. The normal videos presenting facts or fun moments usually get the few ocassional 'good job' or 'nice' comments but they don't generate much channel activity and are less profitable. -
The reason why BBs hug the map border
ThePurpleSmurf replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
And yet there is a ton of players who hug the border. Weird isn't it? The point is not that it's know how fast turrets turn or that people can plan ahead. Of course they can and good players do, unfortunately the vast majority are not good players. If it helps a bit to make gameplay more dynamic it's an option. You could say the same about the AA consumable. People know there are CVs, so why do players not stick together and move as a pack instead to def flanks, go cap, whatever and have to rely on the AA. It's not that such a turret booster would break the game, but it would make things easier. And no, I am not a BBcrybaby, i friggin hate BBs and do not play them at all, so i could care less, because their border hugging makes them just easier targets for me. But this meta of chickenism harms the game and kills the fun more and more with every day, especially in high tiers. So why not look for ways to fix some issues other than 'git gud' or 'plan ahead'? Yes in a perfect world people would do this, but potatoes do not plan ahead and they do not git gud, that's why tons of helpers are already in the game, like the aforementioned upgrade to speed up turret traverse speed. Going by this logic we could remove this too, as well as dispersion upgrade or concealmet upgrade - just plan ahead and stay far enough back so you do not get detected? -
How is "Main battery hit ratio" calculated?
ThePurpleSmurf replied to Arkhannan's topic in Newcomers' Section
Let me necro this thread .... Do hits only count for the MBHR if you are locked on a target? And what about, for example cruiser, that camp islands and can only shoot the front guns but the back guns hit only the island because LoS is blocked. Do they also count as 'miss' or do only shell count that hit in a certain radius around the ship, like for example dispersion. We have something similar with torpedoes and potential damage that torps only count as potential damage if they missed the ship within a certain radius. -
Most of you have probably read more about it than me, so is this detection inside smoke while firing a gun on top of proximity detection or not? And if it is on top of proximity, does it also take into account (add) the extra ship aquisition range from the module upgrade? The whole smoke and radar changes seem way too complex and confusing from all what i have read about it. Every damn ship has different numbers and upgrades probably change/influence them as well.

So DD divisions are bad and I don't think there is anything we can do about it.
ThePurpleSmurf replied to Thracen's topic in General Discussion
Welcome to the club. I get chat banned 2-3 times a week because i call bad players bad players and even if i explain to them why they are bad and what they did wrong that caused us to lose, they get mad at me and hand over a couple reports. I wonder if WG will ever implement a function to block this kind of abusive report behavior. BTW, i've read complaints in the forum and got messages by forum fellows with complaints that they greeted me ingame and i did not greet back. Well, it's kinda hard to greet back when you are chat banned 3 out of 7 days a week. -
WG Maybe cool it with the flags a bit!?!
ThePurpleSmurf replied to GuderianDK's topic in General Discussion
The only thing they should change with flags is a 'Equip on all ships' button, so I do not have to slap the same damn flag on dozens of ships whenever something changes, e.g. 'upgrade' JR1 to JR2 or Ranked Eco Flags replace other flags and after ranked season replace them back again to normal flags. Or even better have a menu like the inventory with ships and flags, you select on the left side a flag and click on the right side the checkboxes of the ships you want to equip this flag to - baaam, this would be a QoL addition. ^^ -
Everything correct what you say. So who tells you that other players do not play just the same way and do not need LS mandatory? That's the point, people pick the perks that suits their playstyle, no matter what it is. If a DD is good at avoiding 1on1 situations and still pull his weight, why not skip LS and take a different perk?
-
OMNI's strangers123, known as one of the most competent players in this game, is playing his Gearing without LS and he has a survival rate of 90%. Perhaps, just perhaps, it's more the player skill and not so much the perk that keep a player alive? Myself would never play a DD without LS, but I play aggressive af and hunt down enemy DDs no matter what (and all too often die foolishly because of this). Not every commonly used perk is mandatory, same goes for SI for so many ships. People pick it automatically but if you recap the last, let's say, 100 games in a certain ship and look how often you have unused consumables at the end of the battle it appears, that these 3 points are often better spent for a different perk. Ships change, metas change, perks change, builds change and some of the old 'must have' perks are perhaps obsolete now. On Topic Lo Yang looks fun and actually I consider to get it myself too. I'm a huge fan of the US and German DDs and a hybrid like Lo Yang a.k.a. Benson with Hydro looks ridiculous strong and fun to play, especially with the recent buffs it got.
