WG said they won't change this as they do not want DDs to abuse some form of stealth firing by popping in and out of detection for a few seconds. They prefer to have the DD lit permanently so the totally-not-broken BB AP can wreck the DD from any distance. I wonder if any WG dev has ever tried to gun down a BB with main battery only and meassured the time how long they needed, even with setting multiple fires. Stealth fire from a DD is not more than to tickle BBs and was only useful to reset caps late game, when a BB tried to cap.

Actually, if you look at the WoWs Wiki the most Premium ships are Cruisers and only slightly less DDs than BBs. But on second look it appears, that quite a few (20%-25%) of the premium DDs and Cruisers are just copies of already existing premiums or credit ships and a lot are low to mid tier only. It also appears, that BBs are covered across all tiers with Premiums as a commander trainer, while there are Cruiser and DD lines that have no decent (or none at all) commander trainer ship, while there are premium DDs that train nothing at all, which decreases the value of a premium ship greatly. What looks like a balanced premium distribution across the classes at first glance, is actually in huge favour of BBs. Yep, WG surely loves to cater the BB-Potatoes with their premiums.

I'm curious, what's the female proportion in WoWs?

It's about time that you join us in 2017, the 1990's are over. -
Yay, more premium BBs are thrown into the ring. This will surely help to bring the BB overpopulation under control. Good job as always, WG.

I'm curious, what's the female proportion in WoWs?
ThePurpleSmurf replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in Off-Topic
Well, there are at least 8 female WoWs streamer that i know of and there are female players in top clans on NA who play typhoon league. So it's not that there are only 2 or 3 females playing this game. -
How do I get my standalone launcher back?
ThePurpleSmurf replied to __Themistocles__'s topic in General Discussion
As others said, it is buggy. Other than that a game center only makes sense if you play multiple games from one publisher. If you only play WoWs, why use a application managing tool just to launch your one game? It's just unnecessary overkill that is on top of it buggy too and causes trouble for quite a few people if you monitor the forums from different regions and sites like reddit. And it get even more retarded now, since WoWs comes over Steam as well, another game center software, not compatible with the WoWs game center and comes with a hole bunch of Steam-typical restrictions - yet we all play the same game and in most cases this is only WoWs and not the whole bunch of games WG offers.- 40 replies

Actually i use it approx 50% of the time and i play cruisers and dd only. On german dds it's perhaps 75% ap and 25% he, on all other dds and cruisers it's 50/50 depending on the situation. Well, an exception are french cruiser, they are good at long range he spamming, so …

You see a smoke, you have last known ship position enabled - avoid the smoke with your planes, problem solved. Will be fixed as soon as invisible planes stop spotting you throgh islands without the chance to shoot them down.

ThePurpleSmurf replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Actually I thought we lose this at the end, because we had a moron (oops I'm not allowed to say this about other players) very special player in a Donskoi who was camping all battle long in A between the islands in the far north. There was no ship near him for the last 8 to 10 minutes and he still camped there, full HP. The sad part was, that he was our only radar ship for half of the battle but he was completely useless. I told him several times to move his behind to B and radar, where your teams Z-23 torped our other two remaining low HP ships. The Donskoi radar would have ended this right there, but he chose to be useless. Luckily our 2 ships at B survived and we won. If we'd lost these ships, we would have lost the point for them plus the B cap and this would have cost us the game, just because one ****** did prefer to crap his pants in an empty cap instead to help his team mates. But the victory did not last long, as I lost a following battle on Warrior Path, because 3 caps, 2 kills and 133k damage with my Z-52 are obviously not enough effort to win a game. Though, I was not alone suffering this defeat that was perfectly winnable, as @thisheep in a Montana was on my team too. We both topped the scoreboard both with 1450-1500 base XP, while we had ships like a Fletcher that scored a cool 250 XP and a bunch of ships below 600 XP. -
Totally my fault, no way it was the team, right? RIGHT?
ThePurpleSmurf replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
No, yours is based on 'let's wait and hope' while mine is based on raw numbers and stats, how this palyer performed up to this very battle. If he played way below bad for 100 battle, it will not happen that suddenly a wonder appears out of nowhere and this guy carries a high tier game. It's simply a fact. And his reaction showed perfectly why he is a such a bad player. -

You try to defend potatoes like this with wishful thinking, gg. And YES, it is my obligation to let my team know that our carrier is a potato, actually even worse than this with a barely 30% WR and 40k average damage after a hundred games in this ship, because this let my DDs know that they can not count on any form of AA cover in caps, BBs know not to go off to sides alone, because they will be easy victims to an air strike. -

Just had @xXx_Blogis_xXx on my team in his Bismarck with Halloween camo. Well, not much to tell about the game, as the enemy team was just bad and the game was boring af. A win without any effort. -

ThePurpleSmurf replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
See, this is exactly what I mentioned earlier in this thread. It is obviously absolutely okay for players to suck at this game and drag down the whole team, they even try to intentionally TK a team mate AND they commit suicide to cripple the team even further to the point where it is simply a defeat. Yet I am the bad guy, because I just pointed out the obvious and let my team know that they should not expect anything from the CV - you know, DD players and BB usually count on a CV to cover their [edited]when they cap or when they push forward to not get dropped at the start of the game. And he did alot to be outed as a potato, as his 100 Essex games with an average of a tier 4 ships plus a 33% win rate proves. -

Fun with random CVs - Part 873 I've just finished a tier 9 battle with CVs. Just for the fun of it I looked up the CV stats while the game was loading, something I usually don't do. Well, not really a surprise I must say … So at game start I say in team chat, that they should not expect anything from our CV as his stats suck big time. It's a fact as you can see, so nothing really insulting. The CV goes instantly off in chat how he always get crap team that can not play and I reply to him that it's not the teams, but it's him who suck, because he get a lower average damage in an Essex than I get in a t4 cruiser. So what do you expect from such a player? Right, he torp dropped on me combined with some nice compliments, forcing my repair and heal which costs me shortly after my life. In addition to this he also suicided and threw 'nice' compliments about me and my mother in chat. Of course I was also reported, because he sucks at this game and despite the fact that he tried to kill me and suicided as well, there is nothing that WG is doing about players like this - in return these players have the power to report and get one chat banned. And of course they continue to play CV at high tier. Amazing system fellows! -

I tried the operation on NA once and my expectations were fulfilled, 3 stars and this only with luck. 1.5 mil credits 15 camos CV camo, I believe Lexington. The camo is useless for me because I do not play CV, but maybe I have luck an get it again and refunded as doubloons. -

On a serious note, I would not buy any ship at all right now. It's not long to christmas and if WG put santa crates into the shop like last year, you can get a ton of crates for the money a premium ship would cost, but you have the chance to get multiple premium ships and other goodies. Other than that, how are we supposed to answer your question? We do not know your friends ship preference, what tier he plays and so on. -

@Negativvv @walter3kurtz Here are my 2 cent on Gearing after the smoke changes and Lo Yang in general. Of course everyone has his own way to spec and play these ships and people have their thoughts and logic behind a certain build, so variety is a good thing. For Gearing I specced out of SI and use TAE instead. With the smoke changes there is no need anymore to smoke up big ships and I personally usually do fine with 3 charges of smoke and Def AA. Torps that are sooner ready mean, I can defend myself better (if someone pushes me in smoke) or control flanks better. RPF on Gearing, some like it others don't. I tested both and decided for me, that it is a must-have on my US DDs, especially on Gearing. The reason for this is, that I need to know from where to expect torps and can angle properly, the Gearing is a bit more sluggish to handle and is not that great in dodging torps. It also helps a lot hunting down other DDs and can make for a good surprise tool. Gearing with its firepower is a beast in a knifefight, that why I use RPF to actively hunt down enemy DDs and engage in fights whenever possible. For Lo Yang I use this build. Although Lo Yang is technically a Benson C-Hull, I do not use RPF in my build. The reason for this is, that Lo Yang is extremely nimble and can dodge torps like a champ. It does not really matter if I know from which direction torps are coming. Since Lo Yang also lacks a lot of firepower compared to the US DDs, I do only engage in open knifefights with IJN DDs, all other DDs will make short work of Lo Yang. This is why I do not need RPF to actively hunt them down. Instead, I use my smoke and hydro to setup an 'open water ambush', get them detected, smoke up, hydro to keep them spotted and kill them from my smoke. Lo Yang has an excellent concealment, when I get spotted I know that the enemy DD is within my 5.8km concealment and my Hydro range is 5.45km, so the time I need to slow down and smoke the enemy DD already glided into my Hydro range and is most likely doomed. In other words, I let the enemy DDs come to me and find me instead to hunt them down actively. On domination maps it is even easier, because you know where the enemy DD will appear. In caps with islands I usualy push straight into the cap, hug the island and pop hydro, this will keep the whole cap spotted any no enemy DD will get close enough to be a threat to me. Also counter-hydro and radar are pointless, because behind the island it is safe and an enemy ship can not push me because you see it coming due to active hydro. Also notice that I use SI on Lo Yang, because the extra charge smoke and hydro are very important on this ship. Hydro is simply too strong as a defensive tool, so every charge is valuable. The extra smoke helps to get the damage up, because with only 4 guns you need to shoot a lot more to set fires or deal damage in general and the Lo Yang torps are not really the best in the game. If you intent to hunt down enemy DDs with your Lo Yang then you should use RPF. In competitve RPF is a must-have, in random not so much. IJN DDs use it to avoid enemy DD contact, US DDs use it to hunt down enemy DDs. If this skill is worth it for you depend on your playstyle. UPDATE yay, Lo Yang at times soo much fun

WR 56% looking for clan with no mic req.
ThePurpleSmurf replied to Akiranos's topic in Looking for a Clan
Check out clan TOXIC and send an ingame application so the CL can have a look at it. We have no requirement to use a mic, though you should have installed TS and at least listen to voice com. Minimum WR 55% (clan average is about 58% or so) and yadda yadda. Be active, don't be an arse, farm oil, profit from clan upgrades. Currently we have 40 slots and 30 active players. -

This explains why some CV player have an alomst 90% WR and others can not even manage to reach 30% WR over a course of several hundred games, right? All because it's the team and not the skill of this one CV. But this thread is not about CV only, it's special players in general. -

A couple of hours ago I divisioned up with a clan mate for a last game before dinner. We ended up in a tier 10 game with CVs, we were in tier 8s. We lost without any chance, the enemy CV picked us apart, the enemy team brushed over us and we lost in the most devestating defeat I have had in the last 3 months. At the first moment I saw that our CV is a 'not so good player' and looking at his stats post battle -oh what a shocker- confirmed my impression. Have a look at this … Now, you say one is not stupid because he performs poorly, but I personally consider payers like this indeed stupid. Stupid in the sense of not intelligent, low IQ and no comprehension of how bad they really are. A player with stats like this and who has some form of intelligence would understand that he is beyond terrible at this game. If someone has after hundreds and thousands of games stats like this, an intelligent person should understand that he ruins the game for 11 team mates whenever he clicks the battle button. A not-stupid person would understand that he does not belong to high tier games, especially as CV that has such a huge influence on the outcome of a battle, but rather should play low tier or Coop to practice more. He would understand that he should look up some guides and videos with instructions instead to be a burden for team to a point, where I wish the spot in the team was left blank or replaced by a bot. I really, like REALLY, do not understand why it is acceptable that players like this are allowed to ruin the game for 11 others with every battle they join, yet it is bad and evil and insulting and elitist, when players with better stats and a higher motivation to win, with a more competitive mindset, dare to speak out the truth and complain about these people. This game has so much potential, but it is ruined by uneducated (like ingame tutorials to teach newbies how to play, help them to understand the class and their role) players who can join high tier battles if they just fail often enough all the way up to tier 8+ or if they simply buy a premium ship. You are correct, we lose and we win and a player can only carry so much but if we are at a point were 11 other players can not equal one mega potato on the team then there is something VERY wrong. May be it a design error, that a class like CV can have such a huge impact on a battle in first place, but also if such a class exist, that players can be that far apart in terms of skill because they are not taught to play better. And if they suck, they should know about it and should be blocked from ruining the high tier battle. -
I really, really wish I could play while updating
ThePurpleSmurf replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in Archive
If you have slow internet and can not upgrade it there are ways around it. WoWs does not need an installation to run which means, that you can copy the game folder on a laptop or even USB stick and update it there. I'm very sure that you have one of these options: A) a friend with fast internet who let you quickly download the updates on your stick so you can copy them on your computer later B) find an internet cafe, have a coffee and download the updates there on your USB stick C) grab your laptop, roam the city and find an open WLAN and download it there D) fast internet at work? great, update problem solved There are many more options to get updates fast and easy. The key is, that all you need is the option to connect an USB stick to a computer with internet and run the WoWs launcher from the USB stick to trigger the update process. It's not that we still live in 1990 where private internet access was kinda rare. Fast internet, open WLAN, friends with broadband, and so on are omnipresent and everywhere available, you just need to think a little bit out of the box. -
I was wondering how LS remains a must-have perk for DDs with the upcoming changes. Namely the halved duration of fire damage and I've read somewhere (dunno if it was in a QA with sub_octavian or on the developer blog on FB) that damage control party will get buffed significantly, which is especially for DDs relevant, because premium damage control will have a cooldown of 20 or 30 seconds IIRC, compared to the 40s it has right now. If you don't need to waste damage control on fires and such, because the duration was cut in half and deals very little damage to DDs anyway, the damage control can be saved exclusively to repair a broken engine/rudder. And even if it breaks shortly after again, which happen not too often in my own experience, the 20-30s repair cooldown should be fast enough up again, that the 2 commander points for LS can maybe be dropped for something else. Yes, there will still be cases where LS would have definitely saved ones life, but the majority of the time these 2 points are probably wasted. UPDATE I found the announcement about the fire changes from the dev blog, which mention the low tier equalization between non-premium and premium damage control as reason for the change. But I can not find the mentioning of the proposed damage control party change. Perhaps this was just an idea they had and have scrapped it again.
