Seems some folk get all the luck...

So I'm not starting this thread to brag, so much as try to investigate something. I know there have been a tonne of crate threads asking the question, 'why do I never get good crate awards?'...but I'm more interested in actually *how* many regular players have had one so far and what *their* thoughts on it are. I've had 2 so far...one for 20million credits and one for 50 premium camos. I've also had 5million and 2million a couple of times, as well well as a tonne of 250k ones too though I don't think they qualifies as 'supercrates'...I should add that I've never used the 'try your luck' one. All of these were from regular options, mostly 'Get more Credits' which I almost always select. I believe it's based on Recent Playtime, among other things of which type of XP earned seems most likely. I base this off the fact that both of mine (as well as the majority of my non-supercrate decent awards) were during a period of time I'd been online more than usual. Given the fact there are only three crates a day, it couldn't possibly be because 'I had more overall chance because of opening more crates'. I also feel like I get overall better awards after playing in Cruisers...especially higher tier. Both my super-containers were following a battle of this type. Sorry if this is a clone topic and I'll delete it if someone can show me another topic with exactly this point and meaning. EDIT: You can choose two options if you wish.

    Atlanta: can I smoke?

My guide discusses a lot of this stuff...just to shamelessly plug another point of view... http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/63860-disliked-guide-4-atlanta/ Smoke would make her OP, it's simple as that. I agree that power creep is definitely a thing with this game, but Atlanta being a victim of that? Nah! Not yet, anyway...

Hi all! Just a note to say this is now completed and ready for inspection! I promise I'll add images once I get the chance to; in the meantime, if anyone has any they feel would be a good fit and don't mind me using, do please holla

Eloquently put, Admiral Noodle Well at least I've got my answer! Pity...be so awesome if one of the others was correct. I guess that's probably the exact reason why WG would make it RNG in the first place, though...so we'll just have to wait and see until hard stats come out, as you say

Seems some folk get all the luck...

I had the 250 consumables one a few times but didnt think it was a supercrate? If it is, I've probably had many more than 2.... And that would be the second option; that it's RNG controlled

Seems some folk get all the luck...

Fair enough I just feel I can see a pattern emerging though it may just be me wearing tin foil on my head! The reason for that is, *something* must determine the chance; even if that be RNG or another random code (in which case the second one is the correct answer).

    Best Cruiser Line

    YES!

    Best Cruiser Line

In my experience, for a new player: IJN: Are so easy to play after driving US cruisers it's insane. Long range torps, great HE, not bad AP, good speed, moderately good survivability. Very, very easy to play for a new player. USSR: I have not tried beyond Bogatyr personally, but I know they have excellent gun characteristics (some might say the guns the US should have instead, but there ya go...), good balance of AA and defensive torps, tanky in certain situations (though delicate at the same time).Overall very hard hitters with stupidly long range. KMS: Not bad, very beginner friendly in tiers 2 and 3 (in fact, I started on KMS before deciding to focus on USN instead). Would just say you need to learn when to use AP and when not to. Tend to be fairly delicate, though you will bounce a TONNE in these cruisers in some situations, so I wouldn't say they're as squishy as many point out tbh (except Nurnberg). All in all, tend to be easier to play than their USN counterparts; mostly because they get torps and long range guns. USN have some real stinkers and I have to agree with many of the people above; unless you REALLY like the ships themselves (I actually do, hence keeping my NO despite the current meta; she's a fun ship if used correctly), avoid US beyond Cleveland until WG do something about them. Radar, good maneuverability, great AP and AA are the only good things they bring to the table after Cleveland. Which sounds impressive but it's really not that big of a deal, sadly as they lack the torps, accuracy, range and speed of their contemporaries. EXEMPT from this are the US premiums. Indianapolis and Atlanta are absolute beasts in their own right and are arguably better than their contemporaries; Indi because of its 'armour' and high AP alpha and Atlanta...well...just read my guide below RN are definitely for a higher skill floor, even past tier 6, so I wouldn't recommend them to a new player at all. Use one of the other lines first.

Vizeadmiral, she seems to have been made for it! Division sometime? Sorry to interrupt again but must show this off. My first ever Kraken below Tier 6 in a BB I'm posting it because this battle was special, though. It was just me and a Nassau left at the end, and both being on equal health, we mutually agreed before engaging to only use secondaries and only mains if the other did first. It was a glorious brawl which lasted a good 8 minutes at point blank! I burnt him down eventually though...my HE seems to have penned him much more effectively than his penned me. Her fire chance also seems higher than Nassau's on the secondaries. Just wish I had replays enabled But yeah...she's definitely far more powerful than Nassau in every way. I LOVE THIS DREADNOUGHT! She's stupidly capable against everyone. I'm in love.

    Disliked Guide #5: Campbeltown

Hello fellow officers! This is a placement post for my upcoming guide on the HMS Campbeltown. If you're curious why and how I'm giving her this treatment, check out some of my other guides linked in my sig below In the meantime, my guide on USS Atlanta! As always, ALL criticism and comments welcome! I'll also be using a guide made by player doubleollie147 in this guide, to further illustrate my points. ------------------------------ Disliked ship guide #5: Campbeltown - An underpowered Wickes rip-off? (For final comparison to other Destroyers of the tier, skip to the 'Overall' section) At a glance: RN Tier 3 1919 US Destroyer, though doesn't share the 'hybrid' traits so familiar to US Destroyer players. Most similar to the Wakatake, her armament attributes more closely match that of an IJN Destroyer than a US one. Can 'invisi-torp', at the expense of gun turrets and torpedo quantity. Below average credit earner, though only because of her low tier. It is possible to get very good money from this ship if played well; sadly, though, most players don't. Available at the store or in-game, for £7; average, though feels perhaps a tiny bit overpriced unless you want her as a collectible. First- An Opinion Ok, let's get something straight here. This is nothing like Wickes or any US Destroyer. Its play-style is definitely closer to that of the Japanese Torpedo-boats. Given the history of the Campbeltown, this is a little surprising. Prior to her infamous (and successful) mission to destroy the French drydock intended for Tirpitz, the Royal Navy fitted her with many more than three guns. [section not finished] Survivability Campbeltown is a typical lower tier destroyer from this perspective, and as such doesn't need much discussion. The 6mm Armour which covers her is barely the thickness of a car window (no, really...6mil is nothing when you think about it); meaning of course that everything firing AP at you will get overpens; making her a good target for HE spammers. Again, like most Destroyers, if you get detected prepare to be hit frequently by HE, especially from the likes of Dresden and St.Louis; all the while weaving to avoid shot like the whole of Blighty is at stake. Her health pool is thoroughly average for her tier and class; though she does boast excellent maneuverability on par with her IJN counterpart, which in part helps to negate enemy shot. Overall, though, Campbeltown should never get hit with more than a couple of shells per game...and if she does, she'll suffer badly. 8900hp roughly equates to one half of a St.Louis broadside or a single shell from a 14inch rifle. So what does she get in return for this? Artillery Well, it's not artillery that's for sure!

Odd you should say that as it was a Bogey I got that DS award on Tbh I've found that fire isn't a huge problem on her due to the lack of SS....but yeah I can imagine you're right with AFT!

    Dreadnought Era Appreciation Thread

Sorry to interrupt, but... 'And so it was, that the proud early Dreadnought still stalked the seas and got its prey both on time and with ease. Though her day may be gone in lieu of such beasts as Wyoming and Myogi, her guns are still the universal silencing force of the land. Amen.' I'm not a 'good' player by any stretch of the imagination, but seriously...I keep having carrying battles like this in Tier 4 matches. She's so dependable when it comes to a clutch. The armour may be wonky and the reload may have been falsely advertised, but by George there's something about this dreadnought which is...special I think it's the guns to be honest...they're very reliable when you compare them to most other ships at this tier bracket; even cruisers. I'm sneezing out shots expecting never to get a single hit and I get a DS award! So what I'm saying is...Konig Albert Division sometime, anyone? Double the death and destruction!

Suggestion (not a whine): Add a warning to British cruisers

True, though I'd argue that that balance is the thing that makes them harder. I can wreck anything that gets in my path with AP in KMS...whereas US AP is more situational (strength being angled cruisers, weakness being BBs) meaning it's a case of choosing and knowing when to choose what. I find Koenigsberg extremly easy to use compared with Omaha, for instance because I don't have to bother swapping out all the time; amongst many other things. Maybe it's just me being lazy, though. I do agree that certain ships like Yorck and Hipper require more skill to play well, though again...I actually feel more tanky in them than their US counterparts! Then you have notorious gems like Dresden, Konigsberg and Roon which frankly the US line lacks apart from Cleveland (I love NO but I wouldn't call it a gem... Des Moines is TX so doesn't really count by that approximation). I love both lines a great deal though, so maybe I'm biased. Other than that your list is great! Just thought I'd offer my personal opinion on the matter...

Battleship players: what is your problem? Why won't you tank?

My biggest hate in this game is passive Battleship play, so give me a minute here to congratulate the OP on this thread; amongst many others of the same theme. I must also disagree with a previous post stating that Kongo is a good sniper...she *is*, but only as far as saying that a serial murderer is good at his job; he shouldn't be doing it in the first place. Kongo is a very capable close-quarters ship. At her MM tier especially, VERY capable. The most capable in the IJN line after Yammy imho, though I know I'm alone in this thought. Pre-planning is essential and I don't recommend leading a doomed charge, but I do think a BB who rushed into trouble without enough help is better than a passive one who outlives everyone only be killed at the end of battle. I love the new fixed repair cost. I've always tanked in BBs/pushed when I can, and whilst it isn't as awarding to me personally as perhaps 'camp and snipe' would be in some instances, I almost always get at least a few kills from it and in doing so maybe even a cap. BBs who don't push are the worst type of player imo as they're directly causing their allied cruisers to die...I don't care about the situation. A BB not attacking enemy ships to support his pushing DD/cruiser allies, but instead camps and snipes, is nothing but a liability to his team. If you're scared of pushing on the grounds of 'but everyone will just abandon me'...well, you've lost already. You need to lead the charge. If Cruisers see a BB pushing, most of the time at least some will join you. And if they don't, well...the enemy will have a Battleship to deal with! Unless you know there's a DD or a higher tier BB right in front of you, waiting to nuke you to Davy Jones, (in which case I'll normally still push anyway and WASD hack), there's no excuse. Even where islands are concerned...if you *know* there's a DD waiting to ambush you, just push in a different place. Seriously...there's no excuse for not pushing which doesn't have an answer. I just don't get it. Cowardice and lack of skill is the most likely cause. It's such fun getting close and nuking Cruisers without worrying about RNG too much, while your secondaries mince anything that comes close (especially in German BBs...I feel sick to the pit of my stomach whenever I see someone playing a German BB passively without a good reason for doing so). Even 'soft BBs' like Kongo and Nagato can be excellent in close-quarters. In fact, some of my best games have been in Kongo just continuously pushing...her speed makes angling so easy. Fuso's also a beast if you get her to within 14km or so, so I really don't buy the whole 'i'll get focussed and die' sh*t, as 9 times out of 10 it's your fault for being in that situation...being cautious does not mean 'camping' at about 16km from the nearest enemy. Being cautious imo means using cover like a cruiser must and angling at the appropriate times. I also don't buy any range upgrades unless I *really* need them...range beyond 18-20km just invites bad behaviour in BBs. I also hate the wonky dispersion which comes with it. It's for this reason my NC is actually outranged by other tier 7 and 8 BBs...I have a shipload of fun without range to hold my hand. I also resent that some people say it's 'suiciding' going in without backup. YOU'RE A BATTLESHIP, NOT A RUSSIAN CRUISER. You tanking and taking the heat will either directly or indirectly help your allies win the match. Even when you get insta-killed for being bold and pushing without enough support...just think...you just displaced the enemy team and by doing so, could well have scuppered their strategy in having to deal with your push. I see this happen so often; an enemy rush to kill me, the 'lone BB' pushing a cap. Regardless of what I do or my fate beyond that point, they've put themselves at risk from the rest of the team trying to deal with me. It sounds stupid, but a lot of players actually do this kind of thing... (I know half of the people reading this are going to start trying to stat-shame me. But here's the point...I know my stats aren't the best, but *I know* I play BBs correctly in this particular case; my aim and strategic thinking on the other hand is not unicum. I don't have enough free time to become unicum, among other reasons. So you can shove that smart ar*e attitude where the sun doesn't shine, frankly. Passive BBabies have lost me so many battles in this game I really couldn't care less about them or the ways in which they justify their behaviour.)

    Captain Cowper's Colorado Guide

No, as that costs doubloons. Unless it's premium you'll lost 50% of their effectiveness until he's retrained. If it is a premium you're moving it to, there's no such penalty and you can re-train him for whatever the ship he was previously in.

Suggestion (not a whine): Add a warning to British cruisers

I'd actually say for me the KM and US cruisers would be swapped. KMS are easy as they have torps and that huge range of theirs, as well as the ROF and excellent hydro they all have. US are the hardest (after RN) imo as they lack torps and only correct use of AP/AA will make them competitive. But to each his own I guess perhaps this is a potential hazard with doing it this way; there'd be a lot of subjectivity involved.

Instabuy for me too as I really enjoyed grinding Kaiser, though I won't be able to play her until tomorrow. I also needed a German Cap Training ship and she'll do nicely Yeah I got that impression; T4 is where you'll spend most of your time in a T3 BB, so she probably balances out quite nicely. I know she's slow and sluggish so that seems like enough of a con to disprove the whining imho; but will just have to see once I've taken her out for a spin.

    Romania players only

Yes of course I understand and I also sympathise. But I'll say it again. Rightly or Wrongly, you should do what you're told by the mods or find somewhere to officially request a Romanian section. There are a lot of Romanians roaming around WoWs these days, so I don't think it'd be too much to ask...

So....what do we all think of the KA? I just got myself one...can't wait to try her out as I LOVE tier 3 and this dreadnought is a dream come true! But how do we feel she stacks up against the over lower tier BBs she'll come across? White Mouse alongside several others have said it's very OP and a real seal clubber. is this something you guys can testify to as well? Regardless, I'm in love with her. Aesthetically and from a game-play perspective, I havn't been this pumped to play a new ship in a long while

Suggestion (not a whine): Add a warning to British cruisers

This is such a great idea, I'm surprised WG havn't thought of it already...unless it's because they WANT people to find them frustrating; thus using that 'up tier mentality' you speak off to buy free xp for doubloons. Hmmm... But yeah anyone with a brain stem can see this is a required and much-needed addition. It seems a little silly now I think about it that they *don't* give pointers before choosing/playing a nation and/or line. Tens of thousands of pounds spent on training videos but they miss this vital and fundamentally simple thing out. Pretty much every other game in existence gives players an idea of how difficult a gameplay mode is going to be, afterall. The again, this is WG and their bottom line we're talking about here...

    British Cruiser pain

You seem to have missed the grand point we're trying to make. Nobody disputes that by 'gettinggud' as you so eloquently put it, will make them more enjoyable and the player more successful in them; neither did many of us mention that HE is a problem; I for one don't find it *that* impeding. However, your 'adapt to the line' comment hits the nail right on the head. Adapting to various lines and ships is central to success of course, but with these it feels far less 'fun'...I 'enjoyed' adapting to other classes. Why not these? I love a lot of the less forgiving ships in the game, so it's not that I'm simply a glutton for ease of use. And the thing is, as you also point out by inferring we 'whine' like BBabies, I'm not alone in this sentiment.

    RN cruisers in PvE

Sorry but I have to jump in here. Itchy Fanny isn't a pile of junk but a Battlecruiser...you know, that thing the British were known for building a tonne of? With her 37% fire chance on those 5400 damage HE shells you can start at least 1 fire with every salvo, while bouncing almost everything they fire back off your excellent bow armour. She's well capable of penning everything she comes across (with perhaps the exception of Konig), so I don't think she works as a benchmark for how crap the British CL's armouring system is. Sorry to derail, though...just thought I'd point that out
