King George V Confirmed?

Sh*t. Really? So this isn't an actual WG trailer? Well Kaseko you just stole my entire thunder storm. (Thanks for letting me know though...it's fun to speculate all the same ) -

The British were definitely better at making good-looking ships than the French in this period (looks like someone took an Ironclad, removed the sail masts and bolted guns and armour on in their place...), but by god she looks powerful all the same! That's some thick armour too... You've encouraged me to look into her more... ...I looked into her more. What a sad fate she had interesting, though... Their ships were always a source of curiosity for me For instance, they were years ahead of everyone else in hull design throughout the 18thc but never really capitalised on that beyond their frigates; their larger capital ships weren't much different from their British counterparts in that department, despite the US making good with the improved French designs on heavier ships; of which Constitution is a perfect example. I also never understood why the French gave their ironclads (and Pre-Dreads in some instances, such as this one) square windows...and so many of them, too. Surely this compromised hull integrity in some way?- 102 replies

Have fun with her, she's one hell of a ship Ferry 25 is right on the mark. Everything you had on NC but maybe AFT instead of Manual AA! Note: Iowa is very vulnerable to citadels; moreso than North Carolina, as her citadel sits high above the waves. Only show your broadside to other BBs if you must.
-
Italy is super cool but gotta be the French for me. Cos you know...historic enemies and all that and I want more targets for my British BBs (which will no doubt be coming first) Seriously though, French ships always interested me; especially their CLs. They had extremly good CLs...better than most other powers at some points.
-
This seems very familiar...did you check the forums first? Anyway, last time I answered this question it was: BFT, EM, TV (or Superintentent), AFT/Manual AA and CE. NC AA is god tier; well capable of exceeding 100 rating. Manual AA will ensure you rip Tier X squads out the sky with ease.

Glad you enjoy this stuff Definitely more coming...just check back occasionally Some of you may also be interested in this: Seems we finally have our answer. Pre-Dreads *will not* be added, possibly ever. However; great to see WG are considering giving our favourite ship a buff!- 102 replies

Ocean kicks butt! It's the only truly realistic map in the game imo...yet I havn't seen it since about 5.9 ... so looks like the whiners got their way again...

∆ This. THIS is what you sail Nagato for. The ease of doing this kind of alpha.

Poll: Revert sounds back to previous version!
Close_Quarters_Expert replied to ZoidFile's topic in Archive
Absolutly not! I love these new sounds. The new water splash, for instance, actually sounds like a shell hitting the surface at high speed. Before, yes it sounded 'better'...but this kind of thing rarely sounds how you'd expect in real life. It actually *sounds* like a huge impact is happening when you get hit, too. Very refreshing after the lacklustre variety we had before. The guns on my Nagato also sound immensely better and closer to how i'd expect a 16.1inch gun would sound, as do the 5-inchers on my Atlanta and Mahan. Havn't heard any of the other new gun sounds yet but I think they're much more realistic than the horrid compressed versions we had before. I've heard plenty of 5 and 6-inchers fire in real life and can say they've definitely got them closer now than they were. Thing is, it's like muskets; they're always depicted as having very rough, mechanical sounds in films and stuff. But owning one myself I can tell you...they really, REALLY don't sound like that... WG seem to be going for realism/immersion over sheer gameplay comfort here, which is great imo as that's what a game like this should evoke in a player. Naval battles were CHAOTIC, GRITTY and BLOODY affairs. The new sounds convey this much better. It's worth noting however that I may be biased here; I use very decent speakers for this game, so hear all the subtleties of the sounds in their full form; on something like laptop speakers or headphones I imagine they do sound bad. Perhaps more sound options are a better option for people with lower grade speakers? But to remove these new sounds would be a huge step back by WG, IMHO. The ambient sounds are also vastly, vastly, vastly better. Makes a huge difference for me personally -
Can we have containers open instantly instead of waiting half a minute for unnecesary animations?

I would like to see an option too. It's cool, but takes soooo longggg... -

Oh dear Robber_Baron, what have you done? You've really set me off on one now... Places like Birmingham and Barrow-in-Furness get all the praise for being where our greatest capital ships were built, but it's here where the real engineering took place. Vickers practically founded this town. Before Vickers, it was a small Kentish village. Beautiful, but of little note. However, after Vickers had come and gone, it was a major SE London borough. I only moved to the area a few months ago thinking it was just another boreish London town, but my ears pricked up when i read the word 'Vickers' to do with its' history, so I started investigating. Not sure if it's a good idea to put where I live on here so I'll keep quiet about the name of the town for now, though for the determined reader it won't be too hard to work out where it is I live! (So good to be able to share all this with someone...nobody here seems interested which is sad...) Following the war, Vickers remained strong well into the late 20th century manufacturing more domestic items like sewing machines and aircraft (oh...did I mention they built a HUGE number of the British planes used in WW2 here...and most of the propellers used in our planes of that period as well. There's actually a statue commemorating this in the town center which is nice.) As for pictures, I'll get some together for you in a future post when I have more time Most of the material around is from the town archive, so here's one to whet your appetite if you really are interested: There's now a McDonalds's where the building in the bottom left is, and everything behind/to either side is a shopping district. Happily, though the shops have been faithfully designed to at least simulate the style of the factories. The image below is of the same piece of ground the large two-storey factory building is on the image above. And here's the clock tower today: frequented by youth, sadly. But at least it's still standing! (Fun fact; it was actually built as a ventilation duct! Hence the grated roof...) Also of note is the fact all the terraced housing built for the workers (bottom right of the first picture) still stands! As does Vickers' workers' canteen (now serving as our Town Hall...it's a gorgeous building which I'll get some pics up if you're interested). Here's an image of the propellar statue I mentioned earlier in front of the Ex-Vickers Canteen building: Which is so lovely because it's the only thing really commemorating this part of the town's history. Here's a poster which was for Vickers in general, showing off what they'd done including the names of all their factory towns (yeah...anyone from England reading this can guess easily where it is I'm talking about) (also note: Kongo's prominence on this...) I'll post more stuff up on this soon! But yeah...for intent and purpose, this modern-day shopping destination which I live next door to is where the vast majority of Mikasa's core offensive and defensive components would've been constructed, then shipped up to Barrow in Furness for installation onto the hull. Here's a nice image of inside the gun factory that was where there's now a 'Game' gaming store ironically (I believe). It's very likely armament made in this very building wound up on Mikasa and Kongo, among many other famous British ships... and I will say this; the date of the image would seem to suggest that being the case too. So...this is where, amongst many others including Warspite, Mikasa's soul was born. Not to brag, or anything, but I consider myself very lucky living near such history Such a pity other Londoners couldnt' care less... As I say there are many, many more images I could post relevant to Mikasa and her construction. When I get time I promise to I'm always on when I'm online too, so hope we find each other!- 102 replies

Nagato is a much harder ship to play than Fuso; Fuso will hold your hand where Nagato will chop it off. I'm actually contemplating doing a Guide on Nagato as she seems to phase a lot of people. All I'd say for now is this; don't sell her! Amagi is a BEAST! Nagato is also a very fun ship once you find your feet with her. Nagato needs to be played like an oversized cruiser with good bow armour and range. If you treat her like you would Colorado or Gneisenau, she'll punish your decisions hard. It's all about allies, allies, allies. Being alone in Nagato is no good. Get to the second line (DON'T CAMP/SNIPE), support your allies (PUSH WITH ALLIES) and use your extreme Alpha damage to put serious hurt on broadsiding enemies; regardless of class. If you want, we can go into game sometime and take them out? I get moderately good results from my Nagato (though a little below what I get from Colorado; around 2k base xp a match since I started getting more used to her) so could it help being with a fellow Nagato player for a few matches? Finally, just bear in mind; she's by no means the strongest ship in the line from an overall game-play perspective. I actually find that she's very similar to Kongo give or take a few thousand health and 8 knots.
-
Just to be 'that guy'...I have duplicated both Hiei and Ashigaru in this current run of the ARP missions. Will I still receive the two port slots you mention or is this not retrospective?
-
Sorry to necro again, but that genuinely complexes me. Nagato unable to citadel? Perhaps there was a buff to her guns between that post and me joining the game in April (in which case I totally take this back), but I can honestly with my hand on my heart say, that I get (and have received!) more citadel penetrations with and from that ship than anything else below tier 8. Her guns are super reliable for me; on-par with Colorado's for citadel potential without the range upgrade! Not wanting to sound like a jerk, but you sure you're pointing the turrets the right way? As in good hands she can sneeze and delete lower tier Battleships with those 410's...

Wargaming Europe - Job Openings in our Paris Office!
Close_Quarters_Expert replied to Ph3lan's topic in Contests
Taken a look at the roles and can't help but notice a complete lack of CG/specialist/FX roles outside of the St.Petersburg office. Is this by design or am I just super late to the game? -
In case you havn't seen yet, looks like a new Dreadnought-era Armoured Cruiser is making it into the game: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/66095-reveal-german-destroyers/ The double turrets are very interesting...though Russian history is a bit of a grey point for me so can anyone help identify this? Also wouldn't mind seeing a new non-Russian Armoured Cruiser, but I'm not going to complain about more pre-war ships being added as I love my Aurora Good stuff WG!

Dang, that competition sounds like it was a shipload of fun! I owned Mikasa then but hadn't even discovered the forums, so missed out . I definitely won't be missing the future contests! Thanks for the kind words Bellegar I've made sure to link the old one as well as copy its address everywhere, to ensure it never gets lost and forgotten. In the meantime...I'll probably be in the channel quite a bit from now on...I very much hope I won't be alone in there! Nerd Alert - for hardcore fans only Oh! I also discovered some rather fascinating news recently which incredibly enough ties into all this. I actually live in the town which built Kongo and Mikasa, among many others! Vickers' machinery and armament factory was involved in the building of all the Formidable class Battleships, and was situated less than 40 feet from where I'm sitting! Sadly, the factories are all gone but the Vickers outbuildings are still around. Such history yet people just don't know it's right there under their feet. Anyway, if this is of interest to anyone I can post some pics and stuff as it's actually fascinating how Vickers delegated the building of these ships across the country. All the Formidable class BB's (Mikasa's siblings) were built here and in Burrow. Now she sits in a Japanese mooring as a testament to the bravery of IJN crews and the British engineers who built her. Odd how things turn out... Like Kongo eventually being an enemy of Britain despite being built on this very ground! Yeah I'll shut up now- 102 replies

Look forward to it! Now. All this talk of Mikasa made me antsy for a dirty, one-sided ! The result: Bismarck got utterly devastated within the first 2 minutes and left me with all of them. Outnumbered but not out-gunned (that is physically impossible in Mikasa), she would've put a smile on Togo's face.- 102 replies

poopooo, I'm sorry she's giving you a headache dude and would suggest divisioning up with somebody in a cruiser or DD. But as to your points: 1) True, it is very easy for enemy cruisers to kite you from beyond 3.8km. This is where tactical use of islands, team mates and positioning come in. If you've put yourself in the position to be DPM'd to death by a cruiser with no way of attacking him back, you've gone wrong somewhere beforehand. Seriously, the only map I'd understand this is not the case on is 'Ocean', which Mikasa will never meet outside of the training room, anyway. 2) Sorry, but BB's of level III and in some cases even IV will struggle to 'simply annihilate' a well-played Mikasa . Check out my guide on her for this one, as it's a point a lot of people make which is fundamentally flawed in more than several aspects. She can shrug off a lot of shells and brawl with the best of them. So long as you're supported, that is... 3) Actually, there are plenty of such 'fools' (though I prefer to call them 'new players') who do such a thing. Regularly. 4) I'm not going to tell you what to do with your money; she's an acquired taste, afterall and is certainly not for everyone. I just feel like in posting this here you were reaching out for opinions on how to play her; and we'll always do our best in helping to that end. IMHO though the key is to get more experience in her and get to know her quirks. She's not a competitive ship, and to expect extreme results from her on a regular basis is mostly wishful thinking (though it is possible...). She's a lot like Atlanta...a cool slice of history but not the easiest ship to play by any means and without taking a lot of time to discover her from stem to stern, it can be extremely difficult to start carrying games.... -

Wow, thanks for the support guys! I will indeed start a new thread, then as it does seem unfair to leave the necessity of hassling Alex in his much deserved retirement I'll try and get it opened up by tomorrow afternoon. -
Hi all! So I'll get down to it; I'm after a clan which is laid back but also has the occasional competitive stuff to join in with. I'm also not huge on TS, though I can comfortably use it if need be. Primarily I want this because it'd be awesome to have strong team mates/division players I can rely on and strategize with and a vibrant community from which I can rely on divisioning up with somebody at any time of day. I'm not interested in clans who hold mandatory gatherings. About me: My ship list is below in my signature; so I'm pretty well stocked. I have a versatile loadout and can fit into most fleet roles with ease. My best ship overall is Atlanta. however, favoured ships for competitive play include: Colorado (for alpha strikes/support), Atlanta (for escorting/delaying), Kiev (for escorting and knife-fighting), Kongo (for brawling and hit-and-run actions), Gnevny (for recon and delaying) I may not be unicum but I know what I'm talking about and am a very effective team-player; I'd happily prove how effective to any clan who may be interested So if you think there's a place in your clan for a player like me, please comment! A note for stat-checkers: My WTR isn't brilliant right now and I'm frankly not sure why as I've had some corkers. Thing is, I tend to be very heavy in supporting roles (if only WTR took chat and tactical assistance into account!) and also didn't used to take the game seriously for my first thousand games or so, which brings down my overall ratings quite considerably. I also play Tiers 6, 7 and 8 heavily, though I love lower tier play more than anything which sadly further pushes down some of my stats.

SIGNAL RECEIVED BY Cpt. ROBERT N. OF THE HMS WARRIOR Received your dispatch, Captain! And may this fellow Captain just say loud and clear that I totally understand and support your reasons and decision. I wish you the absolute best and while I'll definitly miss our Mikasa on Mikasa brawls, it's great that you are going to focus the time on family and other interests. I salute you, sir. It won't be the society without you. Speaking with regards to the society though, I'll happily pick up the torch, my friend (unless anyone wishes to contest this). PM'd you. It is not the end! I'm wondering, what are people's thoughts on a new thread being started? Thing is with preserving this one, as much as I hugely want to, it would mean I'd need Alex around in order to change stuff which could become problematic. It also may lead to some confusion given that he'll no longer be around or posting. The other side of the coin is that all our Siggie links will cease to function (though is that really a serious concern?). This will still be in existence and I would of course link it in the new thread's opening post as the first thing I do. I'll of course carbon copy the opening post and keep the group exactly as is (with the obvious loss it's just suffered still at hand, mind you...). I know almost everything there is to know about this ship as well as a fair amount about the period in general. I also only discovered Training Room recently so feel more confident about saying I can arrange events etc to keep it alive. So I feel I'm fairly fit for the job -
Exactly! That's pretty much the conclusion I made in my guide, too.
