Anyone else noticing citadel on new mexico

You realize NM is the only US ship with turtleback, right? At her tier she's an absolute tank. So long as you're not doing anything stupid ie showing perfect broadside to a Fuso, you'll do well...

To be honest when it comes to DDs I judge myself much more on how much I helped the team achieve victory. Ie, area denial, strategically smoking up allies, spotting. I don't aim for damage in Kiev. However, your points are all valid and I completely agree that's a good way to play it; probably the best way if your aim is damage. Either way, I'm not bull-headed so I'll start giving this more of a go in Kiev. Can't hurt and as you say, advice always helps when playing in a DD I found that Gnevny was by far the most comfortable I've been playing a Destroyer, so I may even go back to him as I have no intention of getting Tashkent and while I love my Farragut, I play a mix of support and damage dealing in her anyway.

Thank you I was so shocked when I changed my name a few months ago and it wasn't used. You're also the first to have picked up on it without prompting so respect to you for that! Coles was a great man but barely anyone has heard of him...

Perhaps, then I am playing Kiev wrong; but I regularly help my team win in it and have fun in the process so I don't really care if I'm doing something a little wrong; I'm no unicum afterall. Here's my take on it; and I accept it may be totally wrong. Atlanta's like playing a big, easy-to-spot destroyer. You use islands for cover where possible to spam (or offensively smoke in kiev), follow the fleet or find ships to escort if there's a any chance in hell of becoming outnumbered by cruisers, only cap if absolutely vital to the team that you specifically do, hunt enemy destroyers (ie, actively go to places where they are just to use your guns to sweep them up), and only use torps in either desperate situations or as an ambush weapon; which does work well in Atlanta, despite what many may say; perhaps in part because some players forget she has torps, I don't know. But I get good results from both and I wouldn't say the playstyle differs *that* much....At the end of it though, Kiev is one of those ships that supports several different play-styles. Just because Flamu does amazingly in his, doesn't mean that's the *only* way to play it and to get good points and/or damage. Edit: True though, Atlanta feels VERY slow after being in Kiev. But then, so does every ship and you just have to adjust to it; ie, weave with greater intensity or rely on allies to draw fire instead of relying on your 48 knots to get you out in one piece.

Of course; because of the bad concealment, range and speed you can't break off so easily, but to an extent that is applicable in anything; New Orleans, despite having all three in good measure, can easily be caught out of place without a hope of turning around. I know it's a cruiser but still...any ship. But because your avatar is a Guinea Pig with a trumpet I'll stop there. That is so adorable <3

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Sadly I don't have a post-battle to show off, but I took 3 torps on purpose in Colorado today (for Guide pics; I REALLY need to start using replays for screenshots!), and not only survived to tell the tale but took down a North Carolina and full health Izumo before my team won through damage! I even shot down 11 planes and avoided the wrath of a Lexington's entire loadout while also being hunted by a Fubuki (albeit the fact I had actually baited him for half the match just to get my screenshots XD). Bearing in mind I took those torps early in the game, I really didn't expect that outcome! I was almost prepared to apologize to my team for it. So for today, that would have to be it Edit: Yes, this was pvp. But I knew i'd survive eating them so thought I'd try my luck; I wouldn't sabotage the team like that in any other circumstance

Ishizuchi - Is she worth it?

Glad my guide had such an effect! As the others say though, use HE on Germans. Tbh I wrote this after the Germans were added, so I do make some points in that regard within the guide. But yeah....you're a real threat to DDs and Cruisers close-up as you can to an extent dance with their torps. But BBs will outmatch and outgun you inside of 4-5km. HE on this ship is a German counter. It's toxic to them. I'd go as far as saying Ishizuchi is the best lower tier German BB counter, entirely because she can burn them to death with such ease

Thanks for this I'll add one to this thread to the guide once I get everything else ironed out in it Speaking of which...as has been pointed out I could do with some extra thoughts on her gameplay. So anything you guys want me to add which may help other players, by all means! Good or bad, so long as it's Mikasa!

    Starfleet HQ

For me it goes: TNG (Because Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Nuff said.) DS9 (Intelligent storytelling, great characters, great era and great ships!) TOS (I have one hell of a lot of love for TOS, but not as much as the first two, sadly.) TNG Films (because they rock! I don't care what rotten tomatoesor IMDB has to say. First Contact is cult) VOY (because Janeway and Tuvok and 7of9. There I said it) TOS Films (I'm sorry but they just didn't do much for me. The earlier ones felt forced though the later ones were cooler) Star Trek 2009 (because reasons) ENT (Actually really like the concept, but not a big fan of the storylines; same old US drama melodramatic crap IMHO) The utter garbage that is the other new Star Trek Films (Because...bleugh. Don't get me started. DON'T GET ME F*****G STARTED!) Into Darkness was such unbelievable garbage. I hated everything there was to hate about that film, and they just abused the hell out of the universe and Enterprise in particular. Oh ok it's a submarine now is it? Oh fair play now it can fight a ship 100 times its size? Oh fair play now Kirk hasn't lost his job...again. Oh fair play so he's stuck in a glass boxy thing again. Oh fair play so now San Francisco doesn't have proper defence grids and is losing 1000s of citizens to ships falling out the sky. I could go on for paragraphs in this way but you get the point. (Rant over) Havn't seen Beyond yet but probably won't unless I hear nothing but good about it. The only reason I don't *hate* Abrams is 2009. I love 2009 purely because it's actually what got me into trek. Obviously now I see it's nowhere near being the best of Trek, but I prefer it 100 fold to Into Darkness. Edit: I love it! Absolute cult! I first heard it on Jingle's space Yamato video ironically enough and was hooked! Here's my contribution (I guarantee you'll have it going round your head for days!):

But it's so shiny and awesome and even has guitars in it!!111! Your request is accepted, Ensign. Let us never speak of it again unless Romulans are present. Then anything goes. Anyway, I'm a TNG man myself. Love me some Picard. The thing is, every single episode meant something. I never left one thinking 'oh I don't really know what the ethical point was to that'. The stories felt deep as a result of this. There'd be an undertone; be it political or social, which would make you think 'wow...have I been wrong about [insert important thing here] all this time?' DS9 did this for me too, though that was more an ongoing push/pull with the central theme of war, wasn't it. Oh and just for the sake of porn: EDIT: What is it you hate about Abrams so much? Not wanting to give my own stance away just yet, I wonder how you feel about new Trek

    Captain Cowper's Colorado Guide

To be honest Surmaaja, I think that's applicable to any ship. If you're uptiered in Colorado your best bet is to stick with the fleet; I sunk an Izumo from full HP this morning and almost finished off an NC in the process simply by supporting others. But yeah getting caught with your pants down is no fun. I do think though that she deals with that better than some other ships to be honest; ie, in Gneisenau it's curtains if you find yourself looking down the barrels of a fully reloaded Amagi who knows what he's doing. She's a great damage dealer too, as you say. I think a huge part of positioning actually comes from just spending time in the ship and learning which parts of the map are best avoided and which will complement the ship's strengths. Edit: Soft_Kitty, sadly the German cruisers are one line I have no experience in beyond Karlsruhe. However, I do know that Nurnburg seems best suited behind the front lines firing AP into BB superstructures. Having played the Pepsicola, I know what squishy means in a cruiser and I think it's purely about learning the ships' role in the fleet. US Cruisers are AP machines which can support the front line or provide AA to everyone, Russians are snipers with glass cannons, Japanese are solo warriors designed to harrass as well as support, and Germans seem to be a kind of mix of all of these. Again though I may be wrong; I got as far as Konigsburg and stopped with them.

    Disliked Ship Guide #3: Mikasa

As my opening statement says, this is barely 3% of what it'll be once finished ;) It'll be just like the Colorado and Ishizuchi guides which include gameplay tips, capt skill and equipment as well as much more; my primary aim with these though is to give the ships a better name and highlight their strengths, as well as entice players to try them; to which end there will be a lot of description through necessity. I'm also purposely avoiding video as there are plenty of video guides but not enough written ones; not everyone can play video on their devices or want to sit through one. I have taken this on board though and I'll try to highlight game play tips a bit more clearly in future as while I did mention a lot of how to play the ship in the Colorado guide, it tends to get a bit lost in translation if you're not reading everything carefully. Thanks for the feedback; it helps

    Captain Cowper's Colorado Guide

This is now FINISHED and ready to be criticized and/or praised. Constructive criticism and ideas welcome as always; I'm not an amazing player by any standard and I have absolutely no doubt I've missed something out or got something wrong As you can see at the bottom of this and in my sig, I do plan on making more of these guides; but feedback on here is where that process begins! So here's the question. What do people want to see following the Mikasa guide? 'Dirpski - Why you no love me?' or 'Myogi -How to push with just two guns' Both is an option if this gets a lot of attention. Also thanks for the praise, Dropman and Soft_Kitty! I'm glad it helped you May be worth checking out the newest section, 'Ideal Build', as that wasn't written until this morning. May help once you buy her to decide how to spec up

New Mexico vs Bayern, Colorado vs Gneisenau

Lolo is a curious ship; my first grind with her was identical to what you just described, so i totally understand what you say. But at the same time, after re-buying her I'm really enjoying the break from the NC/Iowa meta of gameplay, as well as the ship in general. As you say, she has very solid aspects; not in the least her armour scheme. But against a Gneisenau with more than 2 brain cells, she can feel VERY under-powered in some situations. And I think that's it; she's a mid-range ship which *can* do well in close range vs Germans, but generally is much more comfortable outside of their torp range; especially if the Gneisenau knows her weakness to their advantage (slow top speed)...having said which, her torp belt is by far the best at tier 7 so there's that. IMHO that offsets the somewhat wonky secondaries in a brawl vs the Germans; their torps will only do 60% damage vs the 70-80% on Nagato or a fellow German. Did you use plotting room modification? As that can bring her accuracy down to stock Nagato levels and I wouldn't say it's really needed on her to do well. Not wanting to self-promote myself too much, but you can check out my WIP Colorado guide as I've made a few points in there so far which may explain why you had this experience with her; I also try to address the 'German power creep'.

New Orleans - WG Beast or Dingy

NO is an interesting ship; she's very sturdy from the bow and will beat any equal tier cruisers that way. Thing is, people don't know to do this so end up dying quickly and hating her for it. 6 bow guns is great, as is her Radar ability and manoeuvring. DD hunt/support the fleet for the first half of the game, then go off and hunt enemy cruisers in the second half. I believe Flamu loves this ship too; so that's saying something

Dandalo would be an epic addition to the game! I'm always interested in seeing Italian deep-sitting turret ironclads of that era as of course they're the only navy (other than Austria) to have engaged in a large-scale ironclad action during the 19th century (Battle of Lissa. Spoiler; they trashed the Austrians!). This is a few years later (not many mind), but she does retain the same 'look'. She was fast too; 15-knots on a ship like this is nothing to be sniffed at. Imagine the turning circle too! Beautiful model by the way. HMS Worcester, curse that limit to hell! I'm hitting it every day Oh I've also decided I'm definitely going to do a full MIkasa Guide once Colorado is done...so I hope I can rely on you guys to give me some tidbits! EDIT: Interestingly, Italy was heavily influenced by Britain during that period; and from those drawings the turrets are almost certainly the same generation as those invented by (the real) Captain Cowper Coles! I'm always surprised when I see how soon other nations picked up the turret idea (ie, Ericsson with USS Monitor incorporated it just 2 years after Cowper patented it); given their initial...*cough*...epic failure...*cough*

    Best Premium Ship - [edited]

Atlanta is my credit farm, pure and simple. She is easy to do reliable damage in and being a premium will of course get more credits per xp than Schors. When doing the previous fleet of fog missions I used her almost exclusively to get to Ashigaru, and I made probably around 10million credits inside of a week. Even without a premium account, she'll easily rack up 2-3 or even 400k a battle if played smartly. Play her like a Russian DD. My Kiev feels very similar in handling and is tactically similar to play too. Murmansk is a definite second, though and has almost as great potential as Atlanta IMHO. I understand the latter isn't for everyone, though so Murmansk would have to be my vote purely for her universal ease of use.
