Which achievement is hard for you?!

The only one I flat-out don't have is Solo Warrior. I have 37 Clear Skies because I've spent a fair amount of time in T5-6 CV's. That's where it's easy to get, but becomes very difficult in any other tier or ship class. I've shot down 40 planes in the Cleveland, didn't get the achievement. The formula and especially that "at least 50%" clause needs to be tuned I think. The others I don't regard as hard to get. High Caliber becomes a bit difficult in high tiers, really takes a very good player.
  2. Saipan is pretty cool IF you like CV's in general. I would buy on sale. I feel like it's one of those high skill ceiling ships, but with at least a medium skill floor. You can get a lot done with those T9 planes if you have the skills to capitalize on their high speed. But if you're mediocre with CV's, you might struggle with those 3-plane TB squadrons and the small hangar size for her tier. I like it in concept in how it's fairly unique among the USN CV's, yet it works very well. Virtually any T7 premium is good fun, because that's just a fun tier in general, and gets one of the friendlier MM's in the game.

    Cleveland HELP !

This is exactly how I play mine. DE + IFHE when you go up to 10 points, then BFT+AFT when up to 17. Massive damage potential and godly AA in one ship. You can hug islands as others have said. But if you have strong WASD skills and can lead targets at 10+ km, I find the Cleveland manages open water surprisingly well. You can evade a lot of shots coming your way, and the armour bounces surprisingly much when you're well angled. Especially those T5-6 games seem to have lots of CV's these days. Optimally you'll division up with a T6 CV.

    Rage quit anyone

I think this is improbable. Again, I accept that we have less skilled players, on average, on weekends. But they're as likely to be on the enemy team as your team. To cause a loss streak, there'd need to be a mechanism which clusters the bad players on your team instead of enemy team. In effect, the MM would've taken down YOUR name, and try to work against YOU in particular. We're entering tin-foil hat territory here -- I doubt WG hates you this much. In the name of science -- does anything change about how YOU play on weekends? In bad mood? Alcohol or hard drugs involved? I'm not making accusations against you here, but I'm 100% sure the latter explain some of the weird weekend gameplay, in general . I've had these nights when I lose a lot. Sometimes it's just bad luck -- with my 59% baseline win chance, sometimes I just get that "41%" several times in a row. But sometimes I just concentrate poorly, my mind simply isn't it -- and those nights, hard as it may be to accept, it's all me.

    Rage quit anyone

I dunno, for sure "the weekend effect" is real in that you get those casual players who only play on weekends. But as far as being the cause of losing streaks, I'm doubtful. Even on weekends 50% of players win and 50% lose. It's not like we can all be losing, all the time. And those bad players are equally likely to be MM'd in your team and the opponent's team. If anything, it should be easier to carry if there are more casuals in the teams, provided you play well yourself.

    Hypothetical Norwegian Premium DD

If you want to drop money on a Sleipnir, you're currently playing the wrong game. In MechWarrior Online, the Sleipnir is a premium 'mech: In general, I just think something like a pan-European "minor nations" tree would make so much sense. It'd make so many people happy, with some of the famous ships of their respective national navies represented.
  7. About Colorado, I have about 150 Random games in it + lots of Ranked in it, and I never felt it needed any help. Strong ship in range bracket a BB mostly does her day job in (8-15 km for me). The slow speed makes her slightly tricky to run, but I find it's only occasionally a real problem. Server stats for the past two weeks seem to show the same -- and time frame is probably important, with all the buffs the Colorado's received. Tier 7 tech-tree BB's are actually looking remarkably balanced: Gneisenau Germany 83,197 50.93% 45,942 1,054 1.3 0.8 2.4 37% 27% 10% Nagato Japan 40,945 50.19% 49,850 1,123 1.3 0.8 1.2 41% 24% 0% Colorado USA 36,124 50.04% 47,270 1,065 1.3 0.7 1.1 42% 24% 0% Texas, dunno. She's the best T5 BB stat-wise, but so a premium "should" be.
  8. Enterprise CV-6 is arguably more famous. Just look up her WW2 service on Wikipedia! Also probably the single most obvious premium that NEEDED to be added. Since the lead ship of the class Yorktown would be a tech tree ship, Enterprise was always destined to be a premium. I'm also a fan of the CV-65, but she's simply the wrong era for the game.

    Elimination Thread 6: Tier VI

    Independence (1/1/1) : 20 Independence (0/2/1) : 8 Independence (2/1/0) : 20 - 3 = 17 (Going to not downvote strike setup as long as AS is still in. With exceptional player strike Indy can still tip the game. With AS this is strictly impossible. Together they're the two worst ships in T6 though.) New Mexico : 21 Cleveland : 22 + 1 = 23 (god-tier AA, good ability to avoid damage with agility and armour, great damage with IFHE. Handles T8 games with ease.) Farragut : 23 Arizona : 20 Shinonome : 20 Mutsu : 20 Ryūjō (1/2/2) : 20 Ryūjō (3/1/1) : 17 Fusō : 19 Aoba : 22 Fubuki :17 Hatsuharu : 8 Graf Spee : 22 Bayern : 12 Nürnberg : 2 Ernst Gaede : 18 Warspite : 22 Leander : 18 Molotov : 21 Budyonny : 19 Gnevny : 20 La Galissonnière : 11 Dunkerque : 21 Anshan : 20 Duca d'Aosta : 21 Perth : 24
  10. Good suggestion, I've seen this in other games. Doesn't even have to be mandatory, as long as the rewards are nice. I'm guessing most people who do frustrating things in your team simply don't know better. I bet 90+% never come to forums or play in clans, so they're effectively alone, trying to figure out what they should be doing.
  11. So what do you propose OP? WG throw out paying customers? You're playing random games in a f2p game. If you're expecting an elite player base, you've come to the wrong place. Check the message board of literally any f2p FPS... they are filled with messages like this.

    aurora

Probably so WG has something to point at when we accuse them of Russian bias Honestly the Aurora is tricky to use. Broadside weight is good, but you're squishy and slow, so smart and deliberate positioning is paramount, to get to do damage but not die too soon. It's a bit comical how this ship is in the same tier with the Friant. Makes the Aurora look really antiquated.

    Best secondary ships

A division mate of mine runs a full secondary build on the Nagato. The results are oftentimes hilarious. I think the T7 MM is nowadays so friendly you can get away with some harebrained stuff. I'm planning to put a full secondary build on my Colorado. Mainly because I can't figure out what else to do with that ship.
  14. jss78

    Best secondary ships

I run BFT+AFT on my Belfast (because the captain is kitted for Warspite and Belfast serves are trainer), and it gets occasional secondary kills. Mainly because with the smoke+radar kit you want to get close to DD's anyway. So they're nice and fit the general play style. I believe you can get the secondaries out to 7.6 km like on Warspite, which is a good chunk of the radar range. I'm not sure I'd go with manual secondaries though -- there are just too useful other skills for that ship. Otherwise, tier for tier the strongest secondary ship is IMO Nassau (and König Albert which has the ~same secondaries). That's if you're willing to consider the low tiers. The Mikasa -- a div mate runs it, and I am not impressed. I feel the secondaries are too short ranged -- for the tier Nassau/K.Albert have better ones. Apart from low tiers, I'm sure the answer is those high-tier Germans with stronk baseline secondaries and who get the full benefit from the manual secondaries skill.
  15. jss78

    Why are BBs so chicken?

I've been surprised on by the secondaries on my Warspite. On paper they don't look like much, but for some reason they seem surprisingly useful in practice. Not sure if it's the firing angles which help (=mostly to front), or shell properties maybe? I've been juggling between running the secondary mod or the aiming systems mod (for primary gun accuracy). Those 7.6 km secondaries are so nice I'm starting to favour them. For me too some ships tend to put me in an over-aggressive mindset. The König Albert and Warspite are two of these. With the K. Albert you generally get away with it, but with the Warspite it means a glorious death more often than not.
  16. I'm really elated about the turret traverse. That's the #1 thing that makes the Warspite feel a bit awkward. A lot of people bring up the range, but I'm really quite indifferent about that. That 16.5 km, and 19.6 with spotter, feels like all you need anyway. Same way I feel about lots of mid-tier BB's with shortish range like the Colorado.
  17. jss78

    Metric system is annoying me

But were you gentlemen aware that the Warspite has a top speed of 73,000 furlongs per fortnight, while the mighty Hood almost hits the coveted 100,000 mark? (does 99k to be exact)
  18. jss78

    Metric system is annoying me

It's not the only strange holdover. At least I'm playing WoWS on a display that was made by a Japanese company and proudly marketed in Finland as "24 inch". I think the use of the imperial system in the US is rooted in the idea of American exceptionalism, and I doubt they'll go metric during my lifetime. Though I notice the younger generation Americans seems more receptive to the idea that maybe, just MAYBE even the US could sometimes have something to learn from other countries. And acknowledge that Europe is longer that aristocratic/theocratic tyranny their ancestors fled from. But of course even in the US they switch to metric as soon as it REALLY matters: for example in military and science.
  19. I agree pretty much fully. Maybe with the exception of the second-to-last item about non-strike roles. I had an interesting T6-8 game in the Independence recently. Due the usually brutal AA, I ended up spending the last half of the game with a grand total of one fighter plane at my disposal. So I spent the rest of the game sailing around capping, and spotting destroyers (who luckily had poor AA) and their torps with my fighter. It's surprising how much I still got done. I also agree with your other point the broadscale balance of CV's in the game is fine. I think in the big picture they enrich game play, and I especially like CV's in how their presence rewards good team play and punishes bad team play. Sit around behind an island or YOLO around alone --> you die. Cover your team mates with your AA cruiser --> you win. One thing I disliked is how the nerfing of T4-5 CV's was done. Firstly it's just bizarre that the T5 CV's can be MM's against T6 CV's Also I fear the transition from nerfed T5's to T6's will be tough. Speaking as an Independence captain, it's a strong ship but very demanding due to small hangar size and much stronger AA levels. I think that guy graduating from the Bogue will really struggle. Personally I would've only nerfed the T4's to make that a learning tier -- and rigged the MM so they could never face T5 CV's.

How to get rid of the socialist flag?

If WG were first-rate trolls, they'd send a free LENINgrad to OP's account.

How to get rid of the socialist flag?

You could alternatively visit my home town of Helsinki, Finland on May Day. It might change your outlook on the event. It's basically the biggest booze fest you'll find on this planet -- hasn't had much to do with socialism since the 1970s.
  22. jss78

    Low tier premiums

They are not ideal as trainers... the crux of the matter is that in T2-3 other ships are soft, which tends to equal lower XP rewards for everyone. They are not all created equal though! The T3 König Albert (which is ONLY available for 13 more hours, at the time of writing) seems a perfectly fine trainer, because it does typical mid-tier levels of damage. But for example my Emden by comparison is a miserable trainer (but beautiful, fun and historically significant). With IJN, I'd look into the Ishizuchi instead of Mikasa/Tachibana. For some reason Zucchini is only 2500 gold vs. Mikasa 2000 gold -- the former would be a far better deal as a trainer. (And I hear it's a good ship these days, while Mikasa's often named the worst ship in the game.)
  23. jss78

    König Albert or..?

The thing is though, server-wide Nassau is already the best tech-tree T3 BB by a considerable margin. So anything that objectively improves on the Nassau is dubious to me. You're absolutely right the stats for K. Albert are hard to compare. I'm running a 14 pt captain in it from the get-go, in Nassau started with a novice captain. But still it's clearly better than Nassau, and that's the last ship in the game to need any help.
  24. I've never tried a sudoku, but I literally sometimes bring a coffee and a newspaper for the first 5 minutes. It can considerably ease the frustration.
  25. As of late, the most significant thing I notice about carriers is how many there are in T4-5. Four-carrier games are now very common down there. If WG's intent was to make it easier to try them out, I think that's a success. I guess the jury is still out as far as how many of these people will migrate higher-tier CV's. But still less seal-clubbing in T4-5 is a good thing in itself I guess. As far as AS and why people think they suck. It's simply that their ability to influence the game caps at mediocre. Basically the best thing you can achieve is cancel out the enemy CV. That's if you're successful. So it's a draw most of the time, but occasionally you still lose. This is not good. I've likened AS CV's to those football teams who play with ultra-defensive tactics, grinding out 0-0 draws and maybe occasionally the 1-0 win. It's a good way to avoid relegation but you'll never be champion. I get the appeal however-- if you're a little bit uncomfortable playing CV's, they reduce the chance of getting totally steamrolled by the opfor CV. Personally I think with USN both the strike and AS setups are too lopsided and gimmicky and should be removed. Give them somewhat more balanced loadouts like IJN.
