HELP... how to play Bismarck

Personally i love the german BBs - all of them, as there is no better ship to hold a flank against superior odds and expect to survive the encounter. -
HELP... how to play Bismarck
The_Norwood replied to HassenderZerhacker's topic in General Discussion
It sounds like the Tirpitz may be a better alternative for you (unfortunately it's a premium), as it adds torps to the mix, so the 5km miss would be irrelevent as you would already have torps smashing into their side. -

HELP... how to play Bismarck
The_Norwood replied to HassenderZerhacker's topic in General Discussion
The Bismarck is a close range brawler. To be effective, you need to do a tanky build, or a secondary build, or combination of both. Don't bother with the spotter plane, take the fighter for AA help - it can still help with spotting things behind islands or smoke too. When fully upgraded the secondaries can shoot out past 11km, and with manual secondaries captain skill, they are quite accurate and can melt ships quickly. The turtleback armour on the Bismarck gets more effective the closer you get, favouring short range combat at around 8-10km, so you want to to engineer a close encounter with your target. At long range, the guns are not very accurate, but at 10km it is hard to miss. It's main advantage is that it can happily engage 2 ships at the same time - when you are duking it out with another BB, a wild DD will inevitably appear at close range to get a torpedo run in, this is where you train your secondaries and watch the DD melt. -
Why has the Gneisenau turned from an AA beast into something that can barely shoot down a total of 6 planes when it's focused by a t6 carrier? AA is generally broken amongst all ships now, but this particular instance struck me as the worst of the bunch. I have a personal best of 65 planes shot down pre patch of doom, now my best is the aforementioned 6. What gives? How can you justify such an insane change? The cv patch gets worse every time i look at the effects.

Well, it finally pissed me off beyond my patience. Uninstalled the game. CV rework did that. Well done WG, i'm never playing another wargaming game as long as i live.
-
It will never die because it will always be an abomination. Whole clans have quit because of it and every time myself and others start the game we hover over the uninstall button for a while thanks to the abomination. Other ships can be de-turreted and rendered ineffective, but cvs cannot be deplaned. DDs get half their health taken off by rockets while still in spawn, unable to dodge, yet CVs can dodge gunfire (assuming you can even find them to shoot at them). CVs put out fires almost instantly every single fire, yet all other ships burn. Try hunting a CV in a DD, it's almost impossible to get in gun range even due to the speed of the planes, let alone torp range. Kill 90% of a CVs attack wing and they still drop a full payload of multiple torps, even though in reality each plane only ever carried 1 torp. The lemming train is now de rigeur to try and protect against planes, destroying gameplay and rendering some ships useless( Gneisenau is pointless now) but even then the planes get through. CVs tunnel vision 1 poor bastard relentlessly, creating massive frustration while the victim spends the entire game doing evasive maneuvers, shooting nothing as a result, also affecting spotting and ignoring advances byother ships. DDs no longer spot or cap for fear of CVs, blinding the team and losing the game just from the possibility of getting hit by a cv. It has ruined the game and WG don't listen. Welcome to World of Warplanes 3.0 - lets not forget they screwed up world of warplanes so badly they had to redo the entire game.

Since the patch, pressing A or D makes the rudder shift noise happen. While this is pretty logical, it just confuses things. Previously, you only got the sound if you set your rudder, but not by merely changing direction with A or D. Since this changed with the latest patch, i keep thinking i've accidentally set my rudder when i turn using A and D, then changing direction slightly to compensate for this error that hasn't actually happened. Other clan members are having the same problem. Feels like you solved a problem that didn't exist and have created issues as a result. I would suggest either removing it, or changing the sound to a unique sound that is easy to differentiate from the actual setting of the rudder.

Can somebody explain 0 dmg pens to me?
The_Norwood replied to pfcremus's topic in General Discussion
I had a salvo that had 6 penetrations with zero damage from my BB. This was on an unblemished ship right at the start of the battle. Now, that's a bare minimum of 6 four foot holes in the side of the ship plus any internal damage. How can that result in zero damage? -
The rocket planes need to **** off entirely and be replaced by fighters so the cv can be useful to someone other than themselves. CVs are like a turd in a bathtub, nobody wants them there in their current format, including a lot of cv players.

CVs about to get nerfed to the ground (yay, rejoice all CV haters)
The_Norwood replied to valrond's topic in General Discussion
You do realise that if you played all classes equally, that would be 25% of battles for each class, so moaning about 17% is one of the most ridiculous things i've ever heard. Then of course that's on THIS account and it amounts to around 1200 battles in a DD. With my other accounts it goes into the thousands, so get a grip and try not to dismiss people based on the arbitrary redlines you've conjured up. I have been hit by this, i have played through this, i have suffered the exact same problem each time i've done it. Other people have. All the DD players in my clan say the same thing, so unless we all took acid at the same time, i think it's safe to say this is a real issue. The planes are on you too quickly, and they can stay on you the whole game. There is no counter, and that is the problem. I am not against the cv rework, i don't think it was necessary to be this extreme with it, but i do actually like the general idea behind it. The first iteration of it, however, is an unholy mess that makes the games very lopsided and actually makes the problem of a good CV player dominating the match exponentially worse - the ridiculous scores being racked up by CVs support this (550,000 points anyone?), the coming hotfix supports this, many, many players saying the same thing supports this. As to the russian DDs, if you actually read it in full, you would have seen me stating that they can't even get close enough for gun use, let alone the terrible torps. Still, don't let the painfully obvious get in the way of a good yarn. -

The crazy spotting comes in the form of spotting the DDs almost at spawn, thus the rest of the fleet knows exactly what DD is going where right from the word go. This allows radar cruisers to intercept the DDs, so when the DD drops smoke to cover themselves from the planes, they immediately get radared and then the planes hit them, the radar ships hit them, the fecking BBs hit them even - the only ones not hitting them being the enemy DDs which are really meant to be the ones engaging them, and only because they are in the same boat(pun intended) and suffering exactly the same issues. This makes capping impossible, as any DD brave enough to try it is dead in seconds. So capping is out for DDs, how about simple spotting? Well the same problem applies, they are spotted right away and remain spotted for the rest of their short lifespan, so enemy ships can avoid them and take cover (assuming they aren't blowing the hell out of them instead) and remain safe. Then of course there is the fact that the entire team is spotted by the cv, so what use is DD spotting anymore? So no spotting. What about good old fashioned torping? Planes spot torps too, and DDs with shorter range torps, like the russian DDs for example, haven't got a cats chance in hell of getting close enough to even shoot their guns, let alone drop their 4km torps. So what does that leave for DDs to do? Nothing. An entire ship class completely useless so that the smallest band of players in the game can run rampant. There are always more DD players than CV players, and they have just been royally fecked in favour of the minority. To make a game unplayable for a large section of the community is no "solution" to anything and just creates bigger problems than an average player losing 5k average damage. -
What do you like about patch 0.8.0?
The_Norwood replied to Miscommunication_dept's topic in General Discussion
The flak does indeed look cool. .... ...... ........ OK, I thought of another positive - it is not as irritating as screwing a cheese grater. -
I have never stopped playing a game because of a patch. That changed with this patch. I gave it a go, with some optimism at first, but each battle played out In exactly the same excruciating fashion. My rage levels went into overdrive, no more fun. No more relaxation after work, just rage from 30 seconds in. Every game is spent entirely concentrating on planes, no matter which ship class I play. I barely get to fire a shot and am losing credits at an alarming rate. This game just isn't fun anymore, and I simply cannot bring myself to play it. This is a massive contrast to my pre-patch enthusiasm for the game. This isn't just the worst update I have experienced in WOWs, it's the worst update I have ever experienced in 38 years of gaming for any game, and that is saying something.

It's called feedback. WG asked for feedback. This is it. Without feedback the game goes nowhere good. Now put your toys back in your pram and contribute something useful before bedtime or no supper for you.

DD 0.8.0 The murder of an entire ship type
The_Norwood replied to Lady_godiva_s's topic in General Discussion
I am speaking from the experience of my games thus far under the new patch. Every game goes exactly the same way. Do not forget that the topography of the map will allow cruisers on one side of a cap to hide behind an island and radar, while from the other side this may not be possible. Then of course, there is the issue of what DDs are on each team. If one team has a Daring and the other a Shimakaze, the Shima can torp the cap from 20km away, not even getting within gun range of your cruisers, while the Daring cannot do the same with its 10km torps. Also there is no guarantee that you will even have radar ships on your team, MM doesn't take radar into account, so it is entirely possible to have zero radar on your side, and 4 radar on the opposing side. This is an unusual situation, but it does happen. A more common situation is less radar on your team than the opposing team, and the radar on your team has to be on the same cap you are on, when it could easily be on the furthest cap away from you, while 3 enemy radar are on your cap. There is a reason why DDs have vanished from games overnight. -
The whole game has had to be changed to accomplish this rework. The game is now completely different to the one we all fell in love with. All our tactics, strategies, skills and experience mean absolutely nothing now. We might as well be playing an entirely different game, and if that is the case, then there will be a significant number of people who will do just that - go and play an entirely different game instead. Not WGs best moment, and the only time i've felt compelled to hit the forums over a patch. Still, every game has it's hated patch moment, it just remains to be seen how it is remedied.

DD 0.8.0 The murder of an entire ship type
The_Norwood replied to Lady_godiva_s's topic in General Discussion
You do know that a smoke screen is a torpedo and radar magnet? You can hide from the cv in smoke on the cap, but that just advertises exactly where you are to the rest of the ships and one of the many radars will be turned on and voila! you're screwed, because not only can the other ships now shoot you, but so can the planes hovering overhead. A good DD player uses smoke as a last resort, usually just sitting quietly just inside the cap and hoping the enemy DD torps the wrong part of the cap. This is no longer possible. -
I actually like the arms race ranked, a single gem in an oozing sPit sandwich.

What is wrong with the CV update? Post your takes on it!
The_Norwood replied to Maty83_Cz's topic in Archive
The game is now run entirely by the CVs. All other ships are just frightened rabbits desperately trying to get concealment back, usually ending up with the majority of the team running into the spawn border in their efforts. Aggressive play has disappeared entirely, with camping becoming the preferred gameplay merely to survive the first 2 minutes. My entire clan has retreated to ranked battles until this changes, they hate it so much. Nobody plays DDs anymore as it is just plain stressful and no fun at all. The game has become World Of Carriers, with the rest of the ships just being something for CVs to kill. -
Due to me posting some very negative responses to the new patch, i decided that a positive was required to balance this out somewhat. So after careful consideration of the pros and cons of the patch, here is my positive response to the patch: It's not as bad as syphillis.

Experience regarding the Reworked CV'
The_Norwood replied to pzkpfwv1d's topic in General Discussion
I've been frustrated with patches before. This isn't merely frustration, more like "WTF?", as the entire meta of the game has changed, making this a completely different game to the one i loved. I do not like this version of the game at all. No buffs or tweaks will fix it as the core of the change is the issue, not the peripherals. It's not like there isn't an alternative game to go to nowadays either.- 76 replies

Experience regarding the Reworked CV'
The_Norwood replied to pzkpfwv1d's topic in General Discussion
It only gets worse. Now we are spotted at spawn almost, regardless of ship, and remain spotted for most of the game. This means a lot more ships are actually retreating in the first minute. Then there is the fact that even with premium and relevant signals, i'm losing money every game for the first time in a long time. next on the clusterfeck list is my Daring taking out a whole squadron in 3 seconds while my Worcester spent 30 seconds blasting away at planes with none killed. Talk about inconsistent. Voice comms is now dominated by swearing at the patch from everyone in the clan, cv player or not. I am seriously considering just not playing anymore until this feck up is addressed, a situation i have never found myself in before. In short - the game just isn't fun anymore, whatever ship i play.- 76 replies
