Launch Day Calendar: January 2021
300ConfirmedKills replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
The calendar is very strange. It's listing dates that are the first of each month, but then it goes as far as a thirty-first month of the year? What's going on there? -
All the New Year's Rewards and Gifts in One Article!

I see you're still advertising Christmas containers without mentioning the respective shortlists. Not a good look. -
Yah think so?

It's you who's got it perfectly backwards. Ranked has always been about solo progression, demarcated by stars. Because players have no control over who is on either team and the respective skill levels of those other players, having some way of differentiating a skilled player's performance from the rest of their team is highly desirable. Star saving is a small but significant step in that direction. Those who play to win - and are good at it - will be usually rewarded by earning a star. Sometimes they will be consoled by keeping one after a loss. Allowing divs into Ranked would make a mockery of the concept. The mode rewards those who get ahead by combining individual skill and the ability to work as a team with strangers, not those who have a skilled friend to tow them along. If you want a social experience you should play Randoms or Clan Battles.

Developer Bulletin for Update 0.10.0
300ConfirmedKills replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
When have they ever declared such a policy? If they did have a policy it would be annoying to every player concerned with a fair, free-to-win game. -
That would be a helpful mechanic. I'd like to see them go further in the direction of WoT's Ranked mode, which follows the scheme in the image below. I've never heard anyone complain about the arrangement over there. Winrate over a sufficient number of battles is indeed a useful measure of skill (provided like is compared with like), but I certainly don't believe it is the only possible one. Against random opponents, it may well be the best available, but when MM is driven by player skill, there are more sophisticated alternatives, such as Elo and similar measures.

Still no flag for (Gold) Rank 1. Still wasting everyone's time. Preposterous suggestion. Saving a star is the only thing that allows players to differentiate themselves from their team. As a competitive solo queue mode, Ranked needs to do as much as possible to allow players to differentiate themselves based on their individual skill.

No, I amn't joking. It's there primarily as a consumer protection measure. Wikipedia has an article giving a brief overview on the subject. It makes sense that WG would lock those who pursue refunds this way out of their accounts, because if chargebacks became known as a viable way of obtaining refunds from WG, they would be commonly used and hurt their standing with the payment processors they deal with, leading to increased costs. Provided WG provides refunds where appropriate, this shouldn't be considered problematic.

premium Avast Ye- Bring back all Premium ships and have a 2020 Christmas Sale!
300ConfirmedKills replied to HawaiianCook777's topic in General Discussion
They do alter premiums directly. It is frequently documented in patch notes. WG describes themselves as operating a 'free to win' model, which implies that all ships of the same tier and type must be approximately equally useful in battle. There's no reason why any change to intended maintain that relationship should entitle customers to refunds, because that is exactly what they should have expected of their purchase. It's quite simple. Some ships rely on certain mechanics more than others. If, for example, there was a 'mechanics change' that made it so that any ship using radar while sitting in her own smoke could only see ships spotted by her own radar, such a change would have absolutely no effect on the vast majority of ships, but a significant effect on a few premium ships. In this way, balancing changes can be targeted with some precision. This 'mechanics' nonsense is absolutely transparent to anyone with a few dozen brain cells to rub together. WG should drop this charade and explicitly state that they have the right - and more importantly: the duty - to properly balance all ships. -
A chargeback is specifically when your payment processor (typically your credit card company) reverses the transaction you made, upon your request, resulting in the money being refunded from the vendor's account to yours. If a vendor becomes associated with frequent chargebacks, it is bad for their relationship with the payment processor. If you chargeback a payment to WG, they will lock your account until you reimburse them.

premium Avast Ye- Bring back all Premium ships and have a 2020 Christmas Sale!

The solution to that is to balance those ships. Whether or not a ships is available for sale doesn't have any impact on the outcome when you meet one in battle. -

I hope they're delayed until they have some R1 flags to give out again. No point in releasing them otherwise. -

Why would you direct players to Community Contributors in general to learn how to play? As I understand it, there is no skill requirement for becoming a CC. -
That's not really accurate. The article should make it clear that Minnesota is a tech tree ship being made available as early access.

0.9.10 PT 0.9.10 - Big Hunt: Key to Victory!
300ConfirmedKills replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Archive
Big problem with Heracles' wave guns: when waiting for them to reload, aiming according to the indicator and holding down the fire button often results in a miss, because the indicator shows the aim appropriate for the last-fired turret, instead of the one that will reload next. -
Gift Crate/Black ship frustation and anger
300ConfirmedKills replied to Rigg3r's topic in General Discussion
Are you dense? The problem isn't that the OP got a Scharnhorst: it's that he got a ship he already had in a different colour. -
Gneisenau in 2020 - a case of everything wrong in WoWs
300ConfirmedKills replied to st_dasa's topic in General Discussion
No, they don't contradict at all. Having a choice available to you doesn't imply that every available option is equally viable. If my Gneisenau stats are too anaemic for you to consider my opinion, then I think you're wasting your time by discussing things in the forum. -
Gift Crate/Black ship frustation and anger
300ConfirmedKills replied to Rigg3r's topic in General Discussion
I think a ticket to support would be in order if he had somehow received signals from the container he opened. There's no positive way to slice this: anyone who received a palette swap of a ship they already had, like OP did, is worse off than everyone else who opened this container. -
Gift Crate/Black ship frustation and anger
300ConfirmedKills replied to Rigg3r's topic in General Discussion
What's so hard to understand about the OP's complaint? If he had bought any T7 ship other than one of the few with a B version, he'd either have a new T7 prem or a decent chunk of doubloons. Simply because he had the misfortune to buy a ship that WG released a palette swap of later, the reward he got from the T7 ship container was worth a lot less than he otherwise would've gotten. Any minor profit from having two identical ships would have been greater if he had two distinct ships. -
Gneisenau in 2020 - a case of everything wrong in WoWs
300ConfirmedKills replied to st_dasa's topic in General Discussion
They mostly don't have the combination of autobouncing noses and overmatching guns as Gneisenau (and the abomination that is Sinop) has. She doesn't win at every range - she's not OP like that - but she's best suited amongst T7 BBs to choose the range to fight at. I'm happy to report that Gneisenau's stats translated into some very enjoyable gameplay in my case. -
Gneisenau in 2020 - a case of everything wrong in WoWs
300ConfirmedKills replied to st_dasa's topic in General Discussion
I've long considered T7 BBs to be the best designed part of WoWs. Each one of them I've played seems unique and to have something going for her without being OP (Sinop being the exception, but I haven't played her since the nerf). Gneisenau is probably my favourite of the tech tree T7s. She's fast and has everything you could want for fighting at close range. People complain about having only six guns, but if you trade end-to-end with another T7 you're usually fighting four guns to four with a reload and overmatch advantage in your favour.
