Why is it such an issue to take 10-16k / squadrons ? I mean, with one well aimed salvo a brawling BB is dealing twice this amount of damage to an other BB. And a BB guns don't have a 3m reload time like Essex bombers. When did 10 - 16k damage became insane for a BB that has almost 100k HPs and 4 repairs ? How many time have you one shoted a cruiser with your BB guns ? What should we say when you're sinking a 40k HP ship with 1 salvo, if 30% of your hull HP every 3 minutes (when you play baddly and isolate yourself from the fleet) is already insane ? Well, the answer is that this amount of damage isn't insane. You're a BB. You have a huge HP pool and a healing ability. I won't teach you anything that you don't already know but you're in a warship battle. It's normal for your ship to take some damages, and sometime to be sunk. I don't understand why you don't accept it if it's a CV that sink you, but that it's OK that a Zao stealth-burn you to death or that an other BB remove half of your HPs with a good 4 citadels salvo.

Minimum range of air launched torpedo's
Cadelanne replied to Bush_Wookiee's topic in General Discussion
Yeah why not. WG could also give barrage ability to battleships. And double TBs torpedoes arming distance. Would be fair so battleships would be totally immuned to air strike. Alternatively, WG could also remove carriers from the game. What'd you think about that ? Would be faster than making a complaint to nerf every feature one by one until even the best CV players of the game stop playing them. -
As I was just getting used to the CV and starting doing good with it, come the nerf hammer hydraulic press to wreck it all. Never had such a frustrating session for a long time. I've been playing a few game, get 2 of those weird 6v6 and some regular games, but for some reason I only had T8 / T9 games. Iowas everywhere. I mostly get wrecked even if I managed to shine in one of those games. Maybe if I play later I'll try a few more games with a more fair matchmaking. I don't really understand why they're nerfing CVs patch after patch, when it was already impossible to attack an organized fleet before that. You already had no chance to deal damage to a 1 BB 2 cruiser formation if cruisers were a bit reactive on their barrage ability, so ye I don't understand. Furthermore I heard here and there that it's just the begining so ... should I sell my CVs right now ?

You're wondering why it's called "The Uber_Kawai post" ? Well, a few weeks ago I came up with many questions about CV. I was getting wrecked, a lot, and I was a bit pissed off. With my Hiryu I was down to a 35% winrate and an average of 43k damage / game. But a lot of people answered to my questions, someone even looked at my replays to tell me which mistake to absolutly avoid. I followed your advices, and now I'm enjoying the game, I'm useful to the team and that's the way I like to play this game (or any team game). So this is a post to thank everybody that helped me, and especially Trigger_Happy_Dad for providing me tons of replays to watch. I know this sounds a bit ridiculous but my mother learnt me to be grateful to helpful people.

"The 'Team Killer' status now takes into account allied aircraft destroyed in an Air Squadron Assault, launched by pressing [Alt]" This is litteraly the worst thing I've seen in a patchnote so far. It's a common tatctic to straff trough allied fighters if they're outnumbered because they would die anyway. I've been seeing and doing this from the time I started playing carriers, and never seen anyone complaining about that. If you want to get rid of troll straffers you've got to do it on a way that doesn't kill a major tactic used in air battle.

Unhappy about Patch 0.5.6 Regarding TK planes!
Cadelanne replied to TheIdesOfMarch93's topic in Aircraft Carriers
This is ridiculous. This does enforce my theory that WG actually didn't try their game. -
Aircraft carriers are terribly designed
Cadelanne replied to SirLloydHigginsBoomBoom's topic in Aircraft Carriers
I have no idea on how you can come here and whine without knowing even the most basic stuff about carriers. Other people here already explained you why everything that happened to you, actually happened. But damn, didn't you even watch a single gameplay before spending your XP on the Langley ? Besides that, carriers are the less RNG-dependant class in the game with DDs.Don't tell a seasoned BB player that carriers gameplay is fucked by RNG because he'll laugh so hard that you won't be able to hear anything for a weak. -
Hello, You know it all if you read the title, I'd like to know what should be considered as good damage for a Hiryu. I feel my 43k average are really weak, especially since my T6 Ryujo got 50K ... while being a T6.

Hello guys, To begin with, it's not really a guide about this map, that's why I'm posting it here. Well, to sum it up I find the original idea of splitting each teams in 2 very intresting, but I hate this map because the very short distance between each team. I began to tryhard the IJN carrier and it's a lot of fun except on this map. I think the reason is because thanks to the very short distance, if a team just starts losing his ground there's no turn back. You can't fall back and find a better engagement, so the side who start wining the engagement snowball very fast. It's not cool for anyone but especially carriers since you can't be far away, if your frontline has to fall back just a bit you're already in the heat of the battle, which basically mean you're dead. You can of course go hide in the islands but everybody know that's what CV are doing on this map and so DD are rushing here as soon as they notice there's an enemy carrier. I wish there were a map ban system so I wouldn't play on this one except within a BB ^^. What's your thoughts about this one ?

Hello, Recently, for some reason I wanted to grind RU DDs. And WTF. Bad torp, bad engines, higher detectability. Ok. I already played Minekaze a lot and I don't mean to bragg but I think I'm doing good with it. I wasn't expecting to play the same way with RU DD. I read on the allmighty internet that torpedoes are a secondary armament compared to your guns. What I found there mostly says 'wiggle to dodge and use your artillery fulltime'. So I tried. Range is ok (which means very good for a DD) so why not ? Currently playing the Izyaslav, which is a good things because it's seems that it's the first RU DD matching this playstyle. Main issue is that it doesn't deal damage. I mean, it does deal some damage, but far less than a cruiser. So what's the point ? No fire, low raw damage, very short range torps. Also the wiggle-dodge works but since you have a crappy turret turn it prevents you from shooting way too often. So, ambush ? Yeah why not. Your torps may have a short range but you got a lot of them. But no. Torps aren't only short ranged, they also have low spees and very low damages ! It means that unless your target isn't paying attention, you're going to miss a lot of torps even when shooting a BB from <4km. So, I really don't understand. Someone on an other forum told me that RU DD are the hardest ships to master. But is experience really making up for a ship inferior to every other DD on the same tier on almost every point ? What am I missing ?

Hello, I often try strafing fighters before starting an air battle. However I noticed that if a fighter squad engage my fighters from behind while they are strafing I lose a plane almost instantly. Is it just me or there's an effective debuff to fighter's defense while they straf ?

New tier 7 premium carrier Saipan (5.14)

Yep I strafe a lot aswell. -
New tier 7 premium carrier Saipan (5.14)
Cadelanne replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Aircraft Carriers
Mebe you are right I suppose I have the wrong feeling because those encounters with lvl 5 captains. However it's right that I often beat Saipans when they have a regular captain. -
New tier 7 premium carrier Saipan (5.14)
Cadelanne replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Aircraft Carriers
Of course it's usually unfair. But you know that most of Saipan captains are TX players. You'll almost never encounter a Ranger / Hiryu player with a level 5 captain, while it'll be common with Saipan pilots. Not to mention that 10 T7 fighters versus 8 T9 fighters is nowhere close to "fair" anyway. -
New tier 7 premium carrier Saipan (5.14)
Cadelanne replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Aircraft Carriers
It's still very cancerous when you are playing a T7 CV with squads of 4 T7 planes and that you get matched against squads of 4 T9 planes. That's exactly like fighting versus an AS setup, but knowing that your opponent also have a very good strike force. -
New tier 7 premium carrier Saipan (5.14)
Cadelanne replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Aircraft Carriers
Let's take a look at some numbers : http://wows-numbers.com/ship/3763320816,Saipan/ Scroll down a bit at the "Statistics of same tier and type warships". Curently, Saipan is the worst T7 in terms of winrate. Now select the 50% mark, it'll show the winrate of the best 50% players in terms of winrate (it means that you take everyone's winrate, you keep the better half, and you calculate average winrate for them). Now Saipan is displayed as the best T7 CV out there. To me it means that Saipan is very strong, (at least stronger than is silver counterparts), but only in skilled hands. Imho you should avoid her before having a captain with air supremacy and before you're confident in your piloting skills. I'm sailing Hiryu currently and I'm far to be good with her, but most Saipan are easy targets even for me, because they're unexperienced. -
Ideas on how to make Dive Bombers less RNG dependant
Cadelanne replied to Kann_Nix_Extreme's topic in Aircraft Carriers
I like it since it does pound some RNG out. However I think it might be overpowered. I'm a young player, and I've never played USN carriers, so maybe my thoughts aren't really relevant there. As an IJN CV pilot, my main damage source is my TBs, however I like my DBs because I know they'll deal guaranted damage. Of course sometimes RNG screws you but most of the time, a drop will land some hits and a fire. Imho there's no real counterplay to TB besides AA (which isn't really a play, but that's an other topic) as you can't reliabily dodge them. That's imho the main issue with them at the moment, and it'll still the same if your idea gets applyed. The number of hits you get depends only of the CV pilot skills. It's not the result of a confrontation between CV and target's skill. I think this is bad. -
Besides sniping, I must be more active. Looked some replays from Trigger_Happy_Dad and I noticed my TB and DB spent way less time doing nothing than mine. I spend too much time lurking around potential target and waiting for the perfect big strike opportunity. A 6 torp drop followed by 5 bomb hits with fires aren't worth if it's the only thing I'm able to do in the whole game. An other thing I noticed while looking at his replays is that I'm not moving the carrier itself. Well, I move. I use to keep moving to avoid being sniped or killed by a DD. But he often goes closer to the fight and frequently reposition himself on the map to be closer to his targets. That's something I need to learn.
-
It does.I might play for fun, doesn't mean that I shouldn't care of how good / bad I am doing. And thanks Sigimundus for the answer and link. Now I know that I'm doing quite bad x). Even worth when I see that >50% is doing 64k damage. I realy need to improve.
-
Yeah fires seems to be the main interest of IJN dive bombers. But I'll not moan after the bonus damage they provide, even if kinda small. They can also knock lots of AA out, which is nice.

Hello, Lately I've been playing carriers and it becames a very fun ship to play alongside with DDs. However, now at IJN TVII Hiryu I'm wondering if I'm sticking at it, because anti-air increased way too much regarding my planes HPs. I know that ships must be able to defend themselves against air strikes, but does it need to be that strong ? I'm not diving into pack of cruisers, nor staying under activated AA barrage. Trust me I try to focus on isolated targets as much as possible. Still, if the target is aware of my planes presence and start turning, the time I need to adapt my strike angle is way enough for half of my planes to die to a single BBs AA. I figured I'd try to learn to play against AA, but as far as I know it litteraly doesn't mean anything. There's no counterplay to AA. Every AA battery shoot when at range, no matter the angle. Shells even pierce trough islands and mountains. Maybe there should be a game mechanic that would work in your favor if you're using it right, or work against you if you get outsmarted by your target. But at the moment I feel kinda useless against such a powerful and untouchable AA.

Thanks for advices. I tryed to attack already damaged ships and yes it helps. I tried DD hunt and results where "meh". On the other hand it usually means that team will shoot it and makes him waste a smoke, or die. Good enough. I'm also not intrested in going in AS setup as imho the best they can do is draw the enemy carrier. It's so easy to best them (after some advices from this forum I must confess), at least as IJN that got shitty DB, that I don't see anything intresting about them. Problem is that your second isn't true for a lot of ships. Check the other answers, you'll see that many people are telling me to avoid attacking USN BBs, solo or not. Furthermore, an organized team will always have massed AA, and massed AA is as you said shredding planes. Which means that as a CV player you aren't a threat to an organized team. Is this fair in a team-based game ? Being playing BBs alongside CVs, I've never been helpless against planes. As soon as you're aware and start maneuvering as soon as you see them you'll dodge most damage. And when I stay with a Cleveland I don't even worry about planes. I don't know if you've already played carriers, if not I suggest you to try them.

No I wasn't aiming at your comment. I just see this argument very often when people are talking about the gameplay and I find it out of purpose. Of course if a solution is both the best for gameplay and historically accurate, it's even better than if it's just good for gameplay. But you can't oppose to a good gameplay solution an allmighty "it wasn't like this in the real world". Once again I'm not aiming at you or at anyone, I just find this things are said way too often. My opinion tho. Well, that's not true since you already have strong solution to prevent this to happen. Just having a single cruiser covering you destroy the strike. That's a counter to CV snipe, which is what WG want. That's a teamplay solution, which is afaik what WG want. So maybe you'll say that it makes a cruiser useless. But first if he's protecting the CV he's not useless, then if his CV live and move toward the battle (not right in the heat of the battle but not it the farthest corner possible) a long range cruiser will be able to apply some hits, while doing his job and protecting the CV. After the early snipe timing he'll be able to dive in the battle with 100% HP and a carrier to support him. Now if people still want to play as lonewolfs in a team battle it's their choice (and there loss), I just don't understand why WG are encouraging them to keep doing so.
-
Just something I'd like to add : Stop mixing balance / game desgin and history. Historic accuracy is nothing when talking about gameplay. World of warships is an arcade game where ships are about 3x faster than in reality, have half the range and are fighting between tons of island with USN and IJN ships fighting on the same team. I believe "historicaly accurate" is not an argument.

The fact that sea planes are causing pannic spread is already ridiculous. Ok fine, still can deal with it. Tough is it normal that it duel my fighters proven that the ship that launched it (and only him) is giving AA fire support ?
