Yeah AP bombs can't be balanced. Either they deal evil amount of damage that you can't avoid with anything else than shooting planes down, or they're weak AF and don't deal any relevant damage. The main issue with AP bombers (and bombers in general) is the same than with AA : there's no counterplay. It's easy to make a good bomb run on a BB without him being able to dodge anything. If WG want to add AP bombs they need to rework bombers mechanics in order to : a) make it less RNG dependent b) allow BB players to have ways to dodge incoming bombs / bombers

Howdy, There are a lot of topcis here and elsewhere on the internet about how AP and penetration work, but I've found nothing about how HE damage apply. But there's something that can mitigate (or even deny) HE damage. I've been playing a game with my beloved Ogenvoi and I landed 119 shots. They were all HE, and I only did 18k damage with those shells. It's hella low especially compared to what fires actually dealt (30k). I remember that a lot of shells were hitting the superstructure without any damage being displayed nor any component broken. I was wondering if it was a bug but given the abysmall amount of damage I guess it wasn't. Can someone explain me how HE works and why I'm doing 0 - 300 dmg with HE shells that can deal up to 1600 dmg ?

Lost 8 Shokaku T8 TB to a single Amagi before droping a single torp. Tbh I wonder if there's no hack or something. If there's not please just tell me wtf is that nonsense ?
-
Yep I'm already shooting cruisers with AP. Also, 6-7km safe place ? Maybe I'm not ballsy enough but I never approach a BB that close unless I want to torp them. I'll try at any occasion.
-
When shooting at a ships superstructure and deck, are HE shell facing any armor ? Second question, if you find that you're making to much overpen when shooting at a cruiser under like 6km, is it better to shoot HE at him ?

Thanks for these valuable informations !

Hmm ok so it might be that but I'm not sure about it. I mainly shot an Indianapolis and a Colorado and it happened on both. Best salvo I pulled out this game was a ~850 salvo. Colorado wasn't damaged before I started working on him, so I think it's not the reason. AP on BB ? I'll try, but usually I'm at 10+ km so at that range it'll be hard to get penetration I guess :p EDIT : yeah I confirm that I'm dealing very low / no damage for some HE shells on band new shiny ships.

Hapened to me multiple times (I'd say 3) while I was grinding trough Izyaslav (RU T4 DD) and it was a few weeks ago.

It's not that this patch is the end of the world, it's still fairly playable and what's unfar with CVs still unfair with this patch, there's nothing new. What's wrong with this patch is that we have no clue on what WG truely want with CV and if their goal is to nerf them improving AA is the worst move possible in term of gameplay. Now we're also worry about how is it going to be since we wonder when it's going to stop.

Yeah I just had a game and it was World of Citadels this time. Didn't really aim differently than previous game, landed less hits, but 5 of them were cits and I sunk 3 cruisers. How can it be so random ?

Here, just get matched as a stock Shokaku against 9 TX ships. How is this fair, how can this be fun ....

Thing is they shouldn't meet.

Cadelanne is a generic random pseudo in EVE Online, there must be hundreads of Cadelannes in this game ;) On topic, I think most of issues with CVs come from badly designed AA not allowing to find a real balance, and MM. +2/-2 is ridiculous regarding any ship (except maybe destroyers), but it's even worse for CVs. I've been in tier 5/6 games with my Hiryu, that was a wrecking. That's ridiculous. On the other hand, when you're matched in a tier 9 game, that your main targets are supposed to be Iowas ... please. Ridiculous as well. Also, CVs are truely OP at tier 4/5. I often play Hosho to div with newer players, and the only thing that can prevent you to strike is the other CV. This, should have been nerfed. But tier 6/7 when a good teamplay already nullify a CV action, I don't think any buff was needed. Again, we could talk about that with a more impartial view if WG would have told us how what they want about CVs, and which data they used to come to the conclusion that an AA buff was needed.

Yeah, I mean not only moderators here as a police and anouncers, but also people discussing with forumers, making a link between the dev teams and the region's playerbase. For exemple CCP, who are producing EVE Online, are puting a lot of effort into communiaction with the players. They're often publishing long devblogs in which they explain what they're going to change, tweak and build in game. WIth each balance patch come a ton of data they used to build the patch, and devblogs to explain how they used those data. You often see devs talking in forums, answering to players. There's even a council of elected players who are meeting with the devs to talk to them about the game, reinforcing this link between the dev team and the players. I'm never expecting that much from a dev team, but I like when it's not only a ghost that sometimes throw numbers to their players without any further consideration.
-
Anyway I think that's a mistake to not even have some people wearing a little WG ping to share with us mere players on the forum. Imho there's nothing worse as a player to feel like the dev team is acting without any consideration for what players are thinking about the game.

Anyway this thread isn't going to change anything, like any other thread. I've not been around for long, but I noticed that whatever people are saying, no matter if they're saying intresting, if it's well explained, if it's something that could possibly be an improvement. No one from WG will reply to it, and I suppose that no one from WG will ever read it. This forum is more like something from an other dimension that WG doesn't even know, than an actual forum used to link a game's community and the same game's dev team. I've never seen anyone from WG talking there in this forum out of usual stickies. So why do we even bother ?

Remember that with IJN spread, the closer you drop the least torp will hit. And US torp bombers are slower, so it'll be harder for them to reposition for a good drop. Never played them yet tho. Also, for all BB players here, remember that your job isn't to dodge torp as they're in the water, as a good CV player will drop only when he has a right angle. Your defense is to maneuver to give some time to your AA to shoot planes. Many BB players are doing this quite good, See replays from good players, take a look on how they're working versus torpedo bombers. Problem is that high tier BBs don't really need to do this as most planes are dying before droping even if they don't move a lot.
-
To me IJN bombers are mostly a bonus amount of damage trough fire, and a tank when you're attacking a ship with strong AA to avoid your TBs to get shredded. I don't feel like it needs anything more since 2 squads of 4 TBs are definitly more efficient than a squad of 6 TBs. I'd even prefere this to a squad of 8 TBs. IJN inverted spread is also very good.

By telling you, once again, that sinking ships isn't the only thing that matter. And by telling you, once again, that being alive isn't meaningful, useful or fun, if you're just a floating board unable to do anything except than waiting for the game to end, which is what AA is turning you into. Now try to remind this so we don't fill 2 more pages telling you that without you stoping to ask. Now please let me be frank, stop saying BS about a ship you almost never played. Grind like 150 games with a CV, see how it's like and then maybe you'll have a more accurate view of how it works and the difficulties you're facing. Because at the moment you look like a 6 years old child trying to talk about Einstein's theories.
-
Ok it's really pointless to talk with you. You obviously know nothing about CVs, how they play and why they're weak too but still want to talk about it denying argument by a stubborned "CV are OP because they don't run in 1st line with a BB size and a cruiser tankiness".
-
How can you seriously claiming that air defense is useful in the case that CVs aren't doing damages anyway ? This is pointless. About scouting, DDs are scouting pretty fine among other things. If the only interest of a CV is to scout then I'd rather get a DD instead. At least I'll also be able to cap and kill stuff.
-
Being alive doesn't certify that you'll be useful to the team. If 75% of your damage gets denied then alive or not you'll not be anyway useful.
-
Honestly I wonder how much of those thinking that CVs should be nerfed actually recently played a few dozen of games with them. Accordingly I wonder who's also regularyly playing BB while thinking that CVs are nerfed too hard. If everybody knew what the other side looks like it would be reducing this effect greatly. However I think you got a point and that even when you know both sides you're subjective anyway. So yes I'd be eager to know what's wargaming's plan for carriers but since afaik they only care about the Russian forums and that they aren't explaining anything in patches I'll be waiting a long time. That's also true and that's why maybe the AA system doesn't need a buff but a rework. Building it in a way that it considers firing arcs etc. would make it a more skillfull system, helping the BB pilot when he's doing better than the CV to maximize his AA output, and making him an easier target if the CV manage to attack a weaker point trough the AA defense. Maybe it would be too much for servers, but anyway any AA system that involve some skills from the BB and therefore some skills from the CV to play against would be better than this stupid & brutal AA aura effect.

Why people can't accept that CVs are doing damage ? A battleship one shot a cruiser, nobody bats an eye. Well that's legit, the cruiser have been showing his broadside to a BB, he did a serious mistake and paid the price. Ok. A battleship goes far away from cruiser's AA cover, mess up his dodge and take heavy damage from a CV attack that has around 3m cooldown, everybody get mad and find this outrageous. Why ? The BB fucked up, he paid the price (which by the way isn't as high as the cruisers' since he's still alive and can heal) just like the cruiser did, but this time it's "unfair" ? "unbalanced" ? Why ? If the BB had stayed under friendly cruiser AA barrage and have been careful to the planes around him he would have only take minor damages (if any). It's true that CVs are doing more damage than other classes, but not much more. And a CV can't cap, can't be a main pushing force, can't soak damages for the team or deny cruisers efficiently. If you remove his ability to deal good damages then what's the point of having a CV instead of a BB ? Scouting ? Lol who's gonna play to only scouts, would be boring as [edited]. Especially when DDs are already doing it while torping and caping.
