Don't you find cyclones to be very baddly designed regarding carrier gameplay ? When there's a cyclone my squads are getting killed by ships I can't see. All it takes for me to lose 8 planes is to have a sea plane spot them for like 3 seconds, or have an Iowa "surprise m*therfucker" that pops 3km off my planes. How fucked up is that ?

Most BBs run an AA-spec commander, with the ridiculous lvl 4 manual AA skill. An Amagi can kill a whole Shokaku TB wing before they drop their fish with an AA build.

While learning to play RU DDs the hard way, everyone has been telling me "you'll see the Kiev. So dank. So good. Kiev is good." Now, I have some battles with her, it's fully upgraded and ... I wish I was still in my Ognevoi. The 3rd turret is the only good thing I can see about her. The high speed isn't really relevent, especially since you bleed huge amounts of speed when turning. Rudder shift time feels huge. 3.8 seconds fully upgraded. Holy crap! Speaking of it, turn radius is really shitty compared to other DDs. Boat's size is very long. All of this makes it so you aren't going to dodge stuff as good as you would in any other destroyers. If I'm broadside when torps indicator pops up I'm probably going to get hit. Same goes for arty salvos. All these things are decreasing Kiev's ability to survive on the battlefield. And it comes with a ridiculous HP pool : 12800 HPs. She roughly have the same HPs than Hatsuharu while being bigger, less maneuverable, and detected from a longer range. I hope I'll like Tashkent better.

I don't know, I suppose you are all right. Still had some game with Kiev today and ... 128 hits / 26k damages 131 hits / 42k damages 132 hits / 42k damages Only one game that for some reason granted me 93k damage for 162 hits. I know I don't land that much hits / game yet but still, even with 200 hits / game I'd hardly deal more than 50k damages given my current results. Sometimes I hammer a ship with 30 hits without him getting a single fire and with much volleys dealing 0 - 500 damages.

You need to drop so when torps are hitting the water, the 1st torp is closer to the target than the last one. So when the 1st torp hit, the last one will be far enough to give enough time to the target to move forward, therefore meeting last torp's trajectory. Of course it increase arming distance so it'll be harder to drop DDs. That's a downside to this skill but on the other hand it's painful to loose 10 or 12 planes when droping an isolated BB. Even if higher tier carriers have a bigger amount of planes, if you loose that much planes per run you won't make it for the whole game.

Let's compare it to the Mahan since it's an other T7 gun based DD. Mahan have 127mm instead of 130mm, but has 5 guns instead of 4. Her ammos are better than Kiev's one, allowing for better damage when shells actually penetrates. She has 14,100 HPs which is a lot more than the Kiev. She turns faster and sharper than than Kiev while being smaller. She's slower however. Her torps are better than Kiev's since they actually can be used from time to time. Mahan's concealment is also better than Kiev's. Kiev has a huge silhouette and isn't manoeuverable, still have nothing to make it for this huge weakness. No superior firepower, lower HP pool, higher concealment ....

The truth has been spoken. Doubling your damage as carrier is way worth the 3 games "wasted" to learn the basics of manual drops.
-
I hit cruisers or BBs if there's no cruisers that I can easily hit. Even when aiming at a BB superstructure HE shells aren't penetrating, or only one shell on a full salvo. Fire chance are reduced when HE doesn't penetrate so I don't get damages by fire either. And even 40k. It's such a small amount of damages ... since you have no torps and a bad concealment you'd rather sail a real light cruisers which have shells that can actually do damages to targets and set fires.
-
The fact that I get only 30k damage for 186 hits is part of why I don't like this ship ....
-
I used 2/2/2. I don't see the point of 3/2/1 since it won't grant you a significant edge on a ranger (though having a 3rd squad to straff is intresting) and rely your damages on DBs that are just a bonus on IJN ships.

Ictogan, the main issue is that you're basing your argument on the fact that strike wings are designed to be able to deal damages trough AS set up, which imo isn't true. If you have fighter squads sticking to your strike wing, shooting at it, you'll never ever be able to deal damage. This isn't designed so strike setup pass trough AS setup while losing planes, mitigating it's damage. Tho strike setup can outsmart AS setup, which is what makes it playable. AS vs strike is all about brain and strategy and I think it's perfectly fine as it is. Also, I agree that carriers should be able to have somehow custom loadouts. That way CV players could imagine more different strategies, and really play its own style. Everyone know AA is OP and badly designed, even most BBs who have played carriers agree. There's no point in discussing this further.

Ok so I upgraded to Shokaku lately and damn ! It's so much better than Hiryu ! Don't get me wrong, I'm not directly compairing Hiryu to Shokaku. I'm saying that Shokaku is performing so much better in her tier than Hiryu is in her own. Is it just me ?
-
I agree that her torpedo bombers are shitty. Speed is all that matter in this case. Also, about strong AA at tier 8 ... I figured out that AA itself isn't what's OP. AA build is, because AA build doesn't significantly lower a CA / BB sea to sea capabilities. You trade very few sea to sea firepower for a huge, HUGE buff of your anti-air. Captain side, it's even worse. Secondary build, that's very good for sea to sea, is also what's strengtenth your AA. WTF. AA should be a tree itself, and buffing AA shouldn't allow you to ALSO buff your secondaries. It is a nonsense. Also, manual AA is total [edited]. Especially since they keep moving AA firepower to the long range aura. DPS doubled. Lmao, when I see this I wonder if WG play their game.

CV should have to make speed to launch/recover aircraft
Cadelanne replied to Martinborgen's topic in Aircraft Carriers
Ok so CV shouldn't stay at the spawn the whole game, but sometimes they need to stop their engines. Sometimes you spawn on lower tier, tiny map. Your detection aura is rougly like 1/4 of the map. On such map, if your team is getting pushed back a bit, you better hide behind an island and pray that your team will push back, because anywhere you're going you'll be spotted and so, dead. Also, what's the point ? It would just be a headeach, "crapI slowed down for 10 seconds, I can't launch my planes yet". Seriously ? And don't tell me that it would be historically accurate. We don't care. We're talking about a game. In which shells are going to like mach 3, ships are matched 12 v 12, cruisers are drifting like speedboats on a sea that has no waves in order to capture buoys circles in the middle of nowhere. So, historically accurate ? Your argument is invalid. -
So I think I have gotten more "solo warriors" than "clear skies" since they increased the requirements to insane

And so that's why I have cancerous AS Bogue all the way down my credits grinding in Zuiho -
Do you know if +2/-2 MM is going to be maintained or if it's planned to become +1/-1 in the future.
-
Depends on the ship. When you're a DD or a cruiser it's still doable, when you're a BB it starts to become retarded since higher tiers BBs wreck you and higher tiers CA sometimes outrange you. And when you're CV vs a +2 AA you can just go do something else. Besides that I don't get why do this if +1/-1 is doable. It'd just be better from any point of view. Anyway if they plan to stick to +2/-2 ... well not much we can do.
-
When did showing broadside as a cruiser became the best defense versus a BB ? Welcome to World of Overpens. This is stupid.

This training room sounds nice. Where do I find it ?

You got me. It works vs panic spread, ok not just AA itself. But then, afaik this trick work for both TB and DB. Furthermore, panic spread is still usefull as it's really more difficult to drop when there's a panic spread even with this trick. So the "easily" should be removed from your answer.

Auto if you know you're going to die and you won't be able to manual, otherwise manual.
-
Never considered this as a bug. I mean, that's the only "counterplay" CV have vs AA, I hope they're not removing it, bug or not.

Really, depends on situation. If you're attacking a 1st line ship for exemple there's no need to escort your bombers with your fighters, as your planes will be sighted just a short time before they drop their load. Same goes if you see ennemy fighters aways from your target. It's always a good idea to intercept an ennemy air raid if your bombers are safe. More important than the damage you deal is the gap between your damage and ennemy carrier damage. Also, even if you want to deal damage, finish ships when you can. If you see a 10k HP BB sailing away, finish him. Yes, you'll waste some damage but that's better than having him healing and keep shooting at your allies for the rest of the game, possibly dealing massive amount of damage. So if you can sink a ship, do it. Don't miss an opportunity to remove 6 or 8 high caliber guns from the ennemy team.

Allright, regardless of the [edited]about tagging people purple when they straff allied planes, I'd like to know your thought about the 0.5.6 AA tweaks. I don't really see why they're buffing AA to be honest. It already doesn't need teamplay to defend yourself against air strikes if you're a cruiser or an US BB, and now it's going to be worse. But go on, vote and share your thoughts on this thread, as impartially as you can. For those who may wonder what I'm talking about, here's the patch note : http://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/updates/update-056-release/

o7, I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool to be able to chose how many planes of each type we'd brought to the battle besides what decks give us ? Like, if we want to trade some TBs for more DBs if we like to use DBs to tank AA ? Or trad some fighters for more strikecrafts (or reverse) ? I know that wouldn't be a major epic change in CV gameplay but I think that would be nice,
